@A-ZeD, at some point you have to give your government a chance to succeed or lose. GEJ seems to have well meaning and proven professionals in place who are making the right moves at the moment. Give yourself and this government a chance.

You sound quite incoherent as well, hear you: "If the marketers are fleecing the country then thay are doing with the concent and aid of the government". If you believe what you wrote then your stance against subsidy removal is dumb. Is it not the same government who is now withdrawing the consent you talk about? abeg make we hear word. Where do these dullards come from sef.
They are not withdrawing there consent, they are passing their responsibility to the citizens!!

You want me to give my goverment a chance, Well GEJ has had about two years?? He who is not faithful in small things cannot be faithful in big things.

GEJ spends over 70% of our budget on recurrent expenditure and you say i should give him a chance,
Governments all over the world including those tell GEJ to remove subsidy are cutting the cost of running the government what did GEJ do and you say i should give him a chance?

Who are the proffesional??
Okonjo-iwela?? She was finance minister under OBJ did our economy improve during that tenure??
Is it Dizeani? She was works minister under OBJ, she cried at the ore part of the lagos - benin expressway. Did she fix the road NO

and you wonder where the dullards come from

in as much that the repercusion of removing the subsidy will be great, nigerians will survive. using the telecom industry as a case study, land lines were going for N30K and above, and most houses canot even afford it, when GSM was introduced, the price was high, but now everybody is a living witness. at the initial stage things may be rough, but later he go better. the marketers are feeding too much on us. Later PHCN will follow. so i plead with all of una to allow subsidy to go, but my fears is can we trust the govt. not to embezzle the money ?
Yeah when airtel crashes their call rates, prices of tomatoes change in the market abi??

Thanks for the bolded. It is strange how some people are fighting tooth and nail to remain underneath the thumb of their oppressors. But I guess some of them represent the voice of the oppressor "crying" louder than the bereaved. Its mainly crocodile tears.
Don't count on paying N150 for fuel after subsidy is removed. The government has the power to impose price control measures on these importers. FYI, there are at least 3 - 4 companies willing to replace each importer who does not want to continue importing and sell at current prices, after subsidy is gone.

Its time to open the books of these importers and let everyone see the astronomical levels of their profits at the expense of you and I.
Like the goverment has imposed price control measures on cement abi??
Beaf you know nothing about subsidy cos if you do, you will know that the marketers will not lose

E nice:
this is simple economics. 1. More refinery means more employment 2. You said it yourself, the govt. spends 70% of her budget on recurrent expenditure. The implication is that she has no money for capital projects. The money saved from subsidy removal will be used for development. 3. Loophole will be tied up since there will be no more round tripping.
1) Subsidy is not part of recurrent expenditure,
2) Why will marketers spend money to build refineries when they can import and sell at any price?

Note this is Nigeria we are talking about, things dont work according to the norm

Beaf save your breath, most posters don't even understand what oil subsidy is (You will be surprised how ignorant a lot of us are about what subsidy actually is) so engaging them in any form of reasoned debate is a waste of time (their premise is already faulty). Allow the internet warriors to take out their frustration on their keyboards. I keep saying it- Nland is exposing the alarming decline of our educational system (bracing myself for the inevitable flood of insults)
Well i know OBJ removed subsidy and i dont know who introduced it back.

E nice:
@beaf, thanks 4 tryin 2 educate these ignorant posers on subsidy. Most of them are so selfish that they cannot see beyond their nose. At our current production rate, our crude oil will be completely used up in 37 years. What happens then? Is it not better to plan now instead of sharing!!!? Fuel subsidy removal will generate more employment,  infrastructural development and prudent government. Those of u that compare Nigeria to other OPEC countries, check out their oil reserves, population and their output to population ratio. It is like a man who earns 80k wit 2 kids and one that earns 100k wit 10 kids.
Dude are you above 10yrs?? A goverment that spends over 70% of its budget on recurrent expenditure  is what in your own mind will be prudent?
The so called premise that fuel subsidy will generate more employment is fallacy,

Cement is not subsidized yet the price is high WHY?
Sugar is not subsidized yet the price is high WHY?

Another goverment apologist, are you serious?
Are you aware Nigeria has 4 refineries which are enough?
Who is responsible for Power supply?
Do you think Aso Rock does not have constant power suppy?
Riddle me this, between shipping petroleum overseas for over 20 years now and powering a refinery which is cheaper?
I guess even your governor's son or daughter can afford to power a refinery.
Dude you dont just jump into an argument half way,
I know we have four refineries, the post you referenced was meant to counter beaf's argument that removal of subsidy is better for the nation

I don't get your argument, do you think the fuel subsidy will cause market forces to work in Nigeria? IMHO, the only thing that can make market forces work is if we actually get off our arses, start working and producing stuff locally. As long as we keep relying on Abuja handouts, oil subsidies, corruption and importation, market forces will never work in the country ans we will remain poor and wretched.
No i dont think market forces will work in Nigeria. That was a reply to manny4life.
Do you think anybody will build refineries with the poor power situation in the country?? Jonathan is putting the cart before the horse. Why would any marketer build a refinery in Nigeria when it is profitable to import?
Look at it this way,
If Mr x builds a refinery in Nigeria
he will have to power the refinery(that we dont have)
he'll employ more workers
spend more in the short term to build the refinery
chances are his profit margin will drop, e.t.c
The aim of a business is to maximise profits while keeping costs as low as possible,
Politics › Re: GEJ To Use Executive Order For The Removal Of Fuel Subsidy by AZeD1(m): 8:46pm On Dec 05, 2011
@manny4life,
if market forces work in Nigeria, would GEJ economy master plan Dangote be as Wealthy as he is today?
Would the price of cement be as high as it is?
would the price of sugar be as it is?
Dude this is Nigeria we are talking about.

klas:
What backing do you need? copy of the invoice or payment voucher?

If total fuel cost (refining cost + shipping+ other costs+margin) = let say N120 and public pays only N65 while govt pays the balance as subsidy. Do you require rocket science that if government remove its subsidy, somebody has to pay the shortfall and that is the consumer.

And to the marketer, what difference does it make to him whether the full price is fully paid by the public or partly paid by the public and partly by the government?

So long as we are still importing, the fuel importers must pay the full cost at the at the refinery and must recover their full cost

Removal of the subsidy increases the price payable by the public not that it will reduce the cost or profit of the marketer. period.
and what stops them from charging N500/litre? The cement "cabal" does that

Here is a statement with proof,
Cement is not subsidized, how come its still expensivehuh Its a big fallacy to believe that removing subsidy will encorage the building of refineries.
Politics › Re: GEJ To Use Executive Order For The Removal Of Fuel Subsidy by AZeD1(m): 2:09pm On Dec 05, 2011
Beaf:
IMHO, GEJ wants to get rid of the entire system that allows people to legally steal the country blind. You cannot get rid of a system of theft partially if you mean to help the people. You chop it off totally instead.

GEJ has been completely silent about the whole thing, so we cannot make any definite claims that fuel costs will skyrocket. They might or might not, we simply don't have enough to reach definite conclusions. All that can be concluded at this point, is that a few hundred "owners" of Nigeria are sucking the blood of the nation, and it is 100% legal. GEJ wants to make it illegal.
1) How about GEJ starts with reducing the cost of governance? Isnt that the logical step for anybody that means well for this country??
2) By the way is removal of fuel subsidy not the same lie that OBJ told when he increased fuel prices??
3) If GEJ truly wants to use the money for infrastural development, cant he use money from the excess crude account if the account and money still exists??
4) Diesel and kerosine are not subsidized and we know how much they cost in the market!!!

You say GEJ wants to rid the country of people that steal legally and i say if you have a headache do you cut off your head? Nigeria is not the only country to implement subsidy. If others can do it right then in one of his trips abroad, he should ask those who implement subsidy to teach him.

Beaf:
It is hard to understand how you can say that with a straight face. You quoted one of the despicable creatures in the NASS, someone who is evidently working for the interests of Shell like his mentor, Bankole was. Your ACN had the chance to stand on the side of right with the true progressives in Nigeria and vote for Mulikat Adeola as Speaker of the House of Rep, a move that if successful would have seen the necesarry constitutional changes to better the country flying through. But who did you side with? ACN joined hands with Babangida to foist Bankole's co-conspirator and an enemy of progress, Tambuwal on the country.

At the time ACN joined hands with Babangida, did they not realise that their treachery would lead to the country being held back? can you provide a single reason why ACN sided with IBB to position a known thief against GEJ's progressive and highly principled choice of Mulikat Adeola? Now you are here crying fake tears at what your treachery helped to instal and to make matters worse, you are disgracefully quoting an enemy of the country in Senator Enang like it is gospel; rather than rallying that we fight him down.
Everyone can see the pattern that is emerging, damage the nations path to progress at night, then blame GEJ in the morning.

Anyways, there are few surprises there, you regularly quote from highly unprincipled sources like Sahara Reporters and Osun Defender in a desperate bid to sling mud. We are still awaiting the day you will begin quoting from Ovation magazine.
Beaf GEJ said IBB was/is his father, so dont give us the st GEJ rubbish, and if the bill was so important to GEJ why has he not re-introduced it to the National assembly? I guess tenure elongation and looting ala subsidy removal is more important

golamike:
Before i make my comment on this topic, i'd like a Catholic brother or sister to clearly explain the steps/processes involved in infant baptism.
Having said that, let me quickly correct what cdz wrote in his first post- "there's no place in the bible where it is written that you can only be saved when you believe in Jesus Christ" (paraphrased).
Let's examine these verses:
Acts 4:11-12:  For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says, ‘The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’ There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”
Salvation comes through Jesus Christ alone.
The parents and God-parents of the child see the priest and promise to bring up the child in the way of the lord. Aside the admin process!!
