Consultants 'report ' II determine usage or otherwise of 2 Imo flyovers- Nwosu

By Jennifer John

Imo State Government has disclosed said its final decision on the usage or otherwise of the two flyovers in the state would depend on the outcome of their evaluation by the initial consultants/contractors who started the projects.

The state Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu disclosed this in Owerri at the weekend in an interview with newsmen.

He recalled that he was the Commissioner for Works during Ohakim administration when the flyovers were designed with high standard, before Okorocha took over and did what he thought was the best.

"I was the Commissioner for Works when the Flyover project started, then we retained the services of a very competent consultants and engineer.

The contractor, Recon Engineering was one of the best and competent. They could match Julius Berger in terms of quality. They did a very wonderful work at the initial stage of the project, before Okorocha came and felt otherwise".

Nwosu also explained the import of the Memorandum of understanding ( MoU) signed between the state government and Julius Berger.

He said the MoU entails that Julius Berger should look at the design of Owerri- Orlu and Owerri -Okigwe and redesign if necessary, after which officials of the company will sit down with the government and discuss on terms.

He said the government was able to attract the company due to the dealings of the governor with the company as a private businessman.

He gave the distances of the roads to be Owerri-Orlu , 34 Kilometers and Owerri- Okigwe, 54 kilometers.

On the tunnels, the Commissioner disclosed that the one at House of Assembly junction which had been demolished had serious cracks and posed serious danger to the safety of Imolites and all the road users.

He said the second tunnel at the Concorde Hotel junction could be reinforced, since it has no cracks and not as bad as the other.

The Commissioner said government was construncting strategic roads and drainage projects in the state, which was aimed at providing a permanent solution to the hydra- headed problem of flooding in the state.

Nwosu advised Imolites to be patient with the government, because, according to him, the Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma was passionate to bequeath a lasting legacy to the state.

Even the one demolished was not showing any crack as claimed here, let them ensure that it is replaced. Government is for people not for tussle, any grudges with Rochas should be settled outside the government. Don't use people's mandate to fight your personal war. Government should be for continuity no matter what the case may be.

When Rochas took over he completed all Ohakim projects and did not destroy anyone, if there is claim of crack the best thing to do is to reinforce or renovate instead of destroying in entirety. To my personal opinion, Rochas achieved wonderfully well in Imo state and I don't think the way things are going Uzodimma can match him. Only offence Rochas committed was to belong to APC and failed to spend and award contract recklessly to imo political criminals. Had it been he did so he wouldn't have achieved what he achieved today. Look at what is happening in NDDC today.

I'm happy for this present government and pray that they do well, but first and foremost I will advise that they should stop any form of destruction and ensure that all uncompleted projects of the past administrations (Rochas and Ihedioha) are completed and new ones built. Let them replace the demolished tunnel, complete the multi-storey car park at Douglas road, complete the diasporan city, reopen the two flyovers and the remaining tunnels, reopen all the higher institutions closed by Ihedioha, complete Owerri-Okigwe highway, rehabilitate Owerri-Orlu highway, complete all the uncompleted dual carriage roads in Orlu, build 8 more new dual carriage roads in Orlu and Okigwe to connect nearby communities and expand the two cities, redesign Owerri drainage system and complete Orlu's own against the agitation of the host community, continue with the job creation policy of Owelle Rochas and reintroduce the free education policy to help the less privileged in the society.

Oga stop lying here, Aba does not have much problem as portrayed online. The op showed only portharcourt which is still under reconstruction and we are debunking that the place alone can not represent Aba. 70% of Aba areas are more planned and organized. Pls cry more for states like Kogi state, Ogun state, Benue state, Osun and so many others where it seems to be that there's no government and nothing seems to be working.

Meanwhile, this is the same portharcourt road under construction.

akinegba1:
OWERRI TUNNEL DEMOLISHED, AS FEAR OF IMPENDING COLLAPSE GROWS HIGHER

Imo State Commissioner for Works, Ralph Nwosu yesterday visited the Gen. Aguyi Ironsi tunnel along Portharcourt road where the tunnel is currently undergoing demolition.

While inspecting the tunnel, the commissioner noted that the technical drawings and design of the tunnel are nowhere to be found. He stated that it was the considered opinion of the consultants and engineers of the ministry that the tunnel should be demolished in the interest of the public.

He further reiterated that it is better to err on the side of caution when issues of safety are involved especially for a busy road like the Assumpta Portharcourt road where the tunnel is situated.

Ralph Nwosu therefore called on Imolites especially those plying the road to exercise patience with the contractor and the government as a lasting solution is being put in place to save that spot adding that the shared prosperity government ably led by His Excellency Governor Hope Uzodinma is determined in serving Ndi-Imo better as anchored on her 3R Agenda.

Let them ensure that they replace it with their own quality specifications. Imo politics is becoming too annoying nowadays. Tussle here and there.

Just because the technical drawings and design of the tunnel are nowhere to be found it was demolished, something built with imo state scarce resources. On a serious note, the government should have been more afraid of the vehicles playing on top not the ones inside the ground. You destroyed something already on the ground leaving the one on suspension. Madness. Law of karma is awaiting, whatever goes around comes around.

Keep on fighting the innocent one, we are waiting to see the result.

What the hell was the dude's pedigree in Imo State? He could not even get public school students in Imo State to compete with the so-called private schools. Imo State was not populated with private school when the state dominated academic cadre in Nigeria. Why don't they do it as Okigwe - Owerri road, and go start the construction from Okigwe. That way. They'll be compelled to make sure the road gets to Owerri... Lol

Hmmmm, see grammar. Guy are you from where sef? So you believe that every developmental project in Imo is concentrated in Owerri?

The road posted by Sanctity has nothing to do with Owerri city. It is Owerri road in Okigwe city dualised by Rochas now receiving attention in Uzodimma government.

I've read so many comments for or against Okorocha on this thread and it is clear what the issue is. Someone even mentioned Amakohia flyover and what have you. I wrote earlier that if APC had swept 2023 politics aside and allowed Okorocha choose his successor Imo would have been on another level now. Okorocha is a man blessed with wisdom way above Nigerian average and he thinks ahead of his time which might make it difficult for less intelligent people to understand him. He had a long term program which he knew it was impossible for him to achieve in 8 years but a good successor would have riden on his extremely smart program and foundation to easily fulfil a lot. The orchestrated attempt to thwart this program is headed by non-Imolites jealous of the rapid development witnessed by Imo during Okorocha especially the buoyant economy and real estate. Okorocha was able to convince African and international leaders to start seeing Owerri as a converging point for entertainment, relaxation and possibly own homes there. That dream has been put on hold for now until a Governor who understands takes over and continue with the programs. For those who aren't politicians but have been convinced to hate Okorocha because of the manipulation of their head through media gymnastics I pray for their eyes to open so that they see the evil in those deceiving them.

There's no justification for what Rochas did in Imo State.

Today, the state has lots of abandoned projects

That man just lacks administrative and planning know-how

Continue deceiving yourself, political tout. Rochas projects are there for all eyes to see. You can term them whatever you wish to term them but the clear truth is that he completed 90% of his projects.

It was your man, Ihedioha that closed all of them to make them seemed abandoned starting from the international cargo airport, the 10 new higher institutions, the federal high court complex, the police headquarters, the federal prison complex, the 27 general hospitals, the flyovers and tunnels and to few to mention.

Thanks God that present rational government has seen need to put some of these into use. Ihedioha is the man on Earth and God must ever punish him for destroying Imo state.
