My brother don't mind them. I have a lot of respect for you and for your honest opinions. There are more of us on the side of sanity than on the other side of hateful madness. Just ignore them they will go away sooner or later.

Because one person spoke his mind that means he's now speaking for all Yoruba people or what? The extent of tribalism on this forum makes you wonder if it's not attracting people with a certain kind of mental illness.

OP, what has your write up got to do with the church of God? As far as I know God does not play politics and the church has nothing to do with elections. I'm a Christian who supported and voted for Buhari. I did that in my capacity as a citizen of Nigeria not as a member of any religion.

Gen Akinrinade has never been close to Obasanjo, he was a NADECO man and one of the founders of AD and Afenifere right from 1999.

Actually Obanikoro of PDP was the only person accused and arrested in Funsho Williams murder. The man was killed during the PDP primaries when he was sure to emerge as the party's flag bearer.

LiteratureRe: Cyprian Ekwensi Plagiarized Hausa Story "Jiki Magayi" by babadee1(m): 8:38am On Jul 16, 2016
CoCoLav:
There is copyright in the translated version of a literary work. Most times the original author may assign that right to another person with an understanding. Nevertheless, even if permission was not obtained, Cyprain will still have copyright in the translated version because it satisfies the originality and fixation requirement albeit he might have infringed the original author's own copyright as well. This is not about plagiarism, he put efforts into translating it and the law recognizes that. It would be plagiarism if he reproduced it in Hausa.

I can decide to translate Shakespeare's works into Yoruba and make money off it and nobody will come after me.
You can decide to make money off Shakespeare's works in English too as there is no outstanding copyright on Shakespeare. However, it is illegal to translate an author's work into another language without permission.

Bros, I agree with most of what you're saying. We all do.

But consider for example, if you were a citizen of Benue, you stand there and watch waves of Ak-47 wielding Fulani herdsmen kill, pillaged sack ine Benue community after another, proudly parade around their prizes with their AK 47s, while the police looks on from a distance, impotent.

Would then consider Nigeria a failed state or not?

Consider as another example, the residents of ikorodu and parts of Ogun state fully under the control of bandits that Rob, rape and kill residents as they like.

Ikorodu is in the outskirts of Lagos, the financial hub of Nigeria and infact, Africa.

Can you tell the residents of these areas that you have a functional government in Nigeria?
There are parts of this country where the violence is definitely out of control. The govt does not yet have a grasp on the criminal activities of those Fulani herdsmen or those Ijaw militants. But there was a time when the govt did not have any answer for Boko Haram either and that situation has been improving steadily. The key is not to lose hope. Our major problem in this country is tribalism, we see ourselves as foreigners to one another, encouraging hostility to the point where one tribe can invade the territory of another on a whim and wreak havoc. Nigeria has a unique problem in this regard and it is fixable but it will take a lot of time and effort, as well as positive constructive thinking.

hahn:
I agree. I am too young and wish to be enlightened. List them here.

Let me help you out.

Is power supply better?
Is the country more secure?
Is the standard of education better?
Are the cost of things cheaper?
Does the naira have more value?
Do we have NEW and better leaders?
Are the youths now the leaders of the country?
Is water supply better?
Do we have better roads?
Is healthcare better?

And a little elaboration on the points won't be doing too much.

Thank you
Again, there are still a lot of problems in Nigeria. But there is probably only one thing you need to remember, there are more millionaires in dollars living in Nigeria today than at any other point in her history. There is more wealth in Nigeria than in any other African country in the world, and more and more of that wealth has nothing to do with exposure to government. Developed countries were also developing at a point in time, they were developed by innovative and hardworking citizens not by their governments. Blaming govt and waiting for govt to do everything for us is a mindset problem for Nigerians. We need to do better for ourselves by ourselves instead of just complaining.
Out of all those salient problems which you have listed which one are you going to try to solve my brother? I think I have said enough.

I like the way you evaded my question "What areas can you can Nigeria has passed in?". Did you take peak milk today? Because it is in you tongue

One strike out of three. Does it count? undecided

Care to elaborate on the four criteria?
No, I don't take peak milk. The ability of the govt to provide basic amenities is not ideal but it is there. I already listed the four criteria and Nigeria doesn't fall under the objective definition of a failed state. If you're so disillusioned about your life in Nigeria though, you should probably just move elsewhere. Maybe to Ghana. Or is that a failed state too in your opinion?

OK.
Yahoooo!

Nigeria is exonerated from " failed state" status on semantic technicalities.

But to me , a Nigerian, Nigeria is a failed state.

Do you want me to list my reasons?
There's no need to list reasons, we are all frustrated with the slow rate of progress in Nigeria. I don't know how old you are but I'm old enough to remember how things were in this country 20 to 25 years ago. There is no doubt that progress has been made even though it hasn't been up to the level it should be based on our potential in human and natural resources. But I have no doubt that Nigeria of the next 20 years will be by far better than it is today, if we all stop complaining and start playing our part.

hahn:
Ok then. The opposite of FAIL is PASS. What areas can you can Nigeria has passed in?
There is nothing like a passed state. I just gave you the definition of a failed state and I explained why Nigeria doesn't fall into that category. I know you are frustrated with Nigeria, we all are. But there are many Nigerians who have returned home from western countries and they are doing much better here at home. Yes Nigeria has failed to live up to its potentials but it is not a failed country. It is still a land of opportunity for those who are patient and willing to make the necessary sacrifices.

Nigeria IS a failed state.

Nigerians are simply excessively hypocritical.

Like I always say, "if you cannot admit you have a problem you will never be motivated to find a solution to it".

This is Nigeria's REAL problem.

Our inability to simply accept that indeed WE ARE FVCKED undecided
We are not a failed state. There are neighbouring countries where their citizens are taking considerable risks to migrate to Nigeria every single day. Failure is a relative thing, but the term failed state has a very specific definition. Check out my earlier comment.

I kinda get your point, but I disagree.

You can't rationalize FAILURE, make the rationalization of failure a sub-culture, and then expect to compete favorably in a competitive world.

If we continue to rationalize FAILURE, that mentality Rob's us of the necessary impetus needed to make corrections and move forward.

Just entertain yourself with the plethora of excuses our leaders at every level rationalize for their many many failures.

How many of our past and present leaders have ever ever admitted a mistake, failure, a regret for their policies and actions ?

None.

Another good example.
Nigeria is a FAILED state.
Each time I say that , someone is quick to tell me that it's not, despite a universe of evidence pointing to the obvious fact.
Nigeria is not a failed state. That term has a specific definition in political science. According to the Fund for Peace, there are four criteria for defining a country as a failed state. If a country has a government that can legitimately initiate the use of force for maintaining law and order, if the govt can make collective decisions for the public, if the govt can provide basic public amenities and if the govt can interact fully with the international community then it is not a failed state.
PoliticsRe: It Seems Halima Buhari Failed The Last Bar Exam by babadee1(m): 5:45pm On Jul 15, 2016
AgentOfAllah:
Plaetton, Nigeria is not quite a failed state, but it is very nearly one. Be that as it may, Nigeria is where it is today because we are culturally hostile to failure. Nigerians don't necessarily glorify failure, they just pretend it doesn't exist because we treat it as a taboo. You only need to speak with carryover students from Nigerian universities to understand how society ostracises people who have failed...heck, you just have to read some comments on this thread. Alas, when failure is seen as a bad thing instead of the inescapable exemplification of human imperfection; as a thing of shame, instead of a thing to learn from, we are bound to shy away from trying (for fear of failure), then pretend we can't fail.
So you see, It's not the glorification of failure that makes Nigeria this mediocre, it's precisely the opposite: hostility towards failure.
These are wonderful words of wisdom. There's hope for Nigeria after all if some of us can still reason like this. Much respect to you sir.

South West a no go area, this sounds like threat to life of Dino.

I ve been mute on this issue but guess I ve to talk nw. Sen remi was d first to call Dino a thug n a Dog and sen Dino reacted threatening to beat n impregnate her.

Y has everyone refused to acknowledge dt sen remi started d fight n everyone thinks BC she is a woman she has d right to abuse a fellow senator n d senator must shut up n not respond.

For me it's jst a verbal war bw two senators which is normal d issue of gender is immaterial. Sahara reporter was biased in their reporting targeted at killing Dino image. Dino has a lot of haters. APC national leader shld invite both senators n reconcile them. They have to apologize to each other simple. They were both wrong
She called him a thug because he is one. I don't believe she called him a dog because he is the only person who has claimed that she did. No eyewitnesses reported that part. But even if she did his subsequent behaviour has confirmed to all that he is indeed a dog and a thug.

During the elections last year Fayose said Buhari is too old to be president. He compared Buhari's age to his mother's age and said his mother wears pampers so Buhari too must also wear pampers. He took out full page obituaries in newspapers announcing the death of Buhari. You really think there's any reason why the president should ever take his calls after such wicked politics?

Hey ignoramus. You don't know me or what I do so how dare you make such baseless insinuations? Did I tell you that I even stay in Nigeria? The facts are undeniable, the World Bank ranked Nigeria as the 5th most difficult country to do business in the world out of 193 countries in 2015. The fact that some people are doing well business wise doesn't negate that fact. Something you would probably know if you bothered to educate yourself.
