Matthew 6:25-34
New International Version (NIV)
Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

OP you know what you should do. Better do it, I do not believe in testing God, seek his face and ask his guidance, because a certain person claims his genotype changed doesn't mean yours will change. Love especially the one between a naija man and lady has expiry date. I had a colleague in my former working place who is an AS married to AS, they have a child but aborted the second one because preliminary test showed the child was SS. I was shocked when I heard this. Apparently the latest gist is that the husband has kids with another woman outside and meanwhile he insists that he and the wife use contraceptives to avoid having anymore kids. Meanwhile this lady was always screaming faith and believing in God to us.

So its that time of the year when people like me make resolutions and plans for the new year. Keeping the resolution beyond the first few months of the year is another issue. So recently I read Mathew chapter 5 and the verse 13 and 14 stood out for me. In those verses we are called to be tbe light and salt of the world. So I decided to adopt it as my new year theme or resolution.

"14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

In this verse Jesus is saying that those who possess "spiritual light" are to be light transmitters! As a Catholic, my actions should speak louder than my words. Our "Gospel" life should open doors of opportunity for our lips to speak the Gospel (cp 1Pe 3:15-note). We must "speak" the Gospel with our lives so that it will validate the Gospel we speak with our lips! What is the "Gospel" my life is proclaiming to all who i encounter?

So how can I live a gospel life? Am still thinking about that but whatever I decide, I know I will only be able to achieve with strenght which comes from the Lord, the sins of the world are very sweet and they have a way of creeping up on you.
So has anyone else made 2014 resolutions and would like to share?

welcome to all newbies, this is a lovely thread to follow especially if you wanna grow in the Faith and make new friends. we are not perfect but we serve a perfect God and in Him we have trust,

so question for the house, what do u guys think about gambling. I know the church preaches moderation but when u see people losing money at the table even if it's their hard earned cash, I feel like isnt there more nible things they could have done with the cash.

I think the answer to the dedication queston is that the last things to be blessed are the walls in 4 places.

Christianity EtcRe: Please Is There Anything Like Purgatory? by babestell(f): 8:21am On Nov 15, 2013
One thing we all agree on is that Our Father in Heaven is a loving and generoud God. He does not desire to see any of his children persih. We all know that nothing unclean will enter the kingdom of God, nothing with even the slightest speck of sin, and also we know all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. If we were to stick to this principles then nbody will see heaven or God because we all sin (in our thoughts, words, actions, by ommission or commision) everyday we sin. And most times we do not know we sin and therefore we do not ask for forgiveness and these sins are just there counting against us, because the devil our adversary is very good at counting.

The doctrine of Purgatory hinges on the fact that surely for those in state of venial sin, there must be a way for them to see God at the same time losing all that is sin about them. If you choose to believe this then fine for you. If you choose not to believe the fine for you. Only judgement day will we all come to the same reasoning.

Just know that this doctrine has been around since at least the 12th century that is 800years. So for 800 years the catholic Church has been preaching the wrong thing (according to some people) and the God we serve let the Church survive this long! The God I know/serve would not let such a fallacy that is capable of leading his people to condemnation hang around for so long.

The good news is tat the month of November is the month when we in the Catholic Church pray for the dead. I have booked plenty masses and am saying daily rosaries that they may be delivered from torment and united with our heavenly Father grin

i personally get my sheabutter from Lagos or Ijebu ode. you can ask your friends in Lagos to buy for you or you can buy pre packaged ones. naturalnigerian.com also sell sheabutter and I trust her products.
I totally understand what you are going thru, Portharcourt in terms of products and goods diversity has limited choices. even the so called Park and Shop dont stock unique products. Best of luck in your quest.

FashionRe: Do You Think Wearing This Much Makeup Is Deceitful? by babestell(f): 7:40am On Nov 14, 2013
Unfortunately as long as we have men who prefer their women to look a certain way, then women will continue to use tools like makeup to deceive men.
Competition is fierce out there and you have to be ahead of the game. Kudos to the person who mentoned abouth the amount of plastic surgery going on underground. If you could talk to Modupe Ozolua and co, you would be surprised the amount of business they get here in Naija, not to talk of those who go for summer abroad.
We do all these things to attract men or get noticed shikena!

babestell: I am about to start usinga mixture of shea butter and coconut oil, I have been using it on my hair and I read somewhere its good for the skin, so am going to try it. Please does anyone know where they sell Virgin Coconut Oil and Shea Butter in Portharcourt. I don tire to dey find products for this town.
I made this quote in July and fast forward to November, I must say that my coconut oil and shea butter combo is working for me! People keep commenting on how my skin tone is even and glowing. I still have not been able to get my face and body to the same deep brown tone but I guess that is because i am usually exposed to the sun and I dont apply sun screen. Also I started taking green tea every day and a lot of fruits so that may have helped.
A sample poll of my friends show that people with dark skin dont have issue using the shea butter,
Also I know its working because my eder sister who never has anything good to say about natural concoctions worked into my room while i was dressing and was surprised to notice that my complexion was brighter and more even.
So 1 up for #teamsheabutterandcoconutoil gringringrin

Ubenedictus: d priest abused d liturgy.
You are very right and I could see on the face of some parishioners that they were not pleased with it, but this is the same cath church I attended last year where during Lent they didnt celebrate mass instead they did a penintential service. so no Eucharist. (i was so mad because that meant for I went without the sacred meal for 3 weeks) Then everyone processed to the front and joined hands with Father and said "forgive father for I have sinned" and he would say some words of contrition. Me prsonallt thought Fada was being lazy, but hey that is the only english speaking church in The Hague, so we must attend it. My colleague said the Dutch speaking ones are even worse that I shldnt bother trying to attend.
Christianity EtcRe: Should Christians Celebrate Christmas? by babestell(f): 8:29am On Nov 13, 2013
I dont understand why people are struggling to answer the name Catholic. Now someone is worrying himself over Roman and Ignatuis. Methinks some people are trying to gain some credance, very soon they will start claiming origin with us and saints and before that they become more catholic than the Catholics wink
The fact is that there is only one Catholic Church which traces itself back to the Holy Apostles. wink, every other church is mad originated and most of the time, their founder was caused by scandal or pure human dissent. Holy Spirit is usually secondary.
Now the thread is even being derailed from its origainal purpose
Anyway Christmas is a season of giving and giving. On that day so many many years ago the most important birth in the history of mankind happened in a very simple manner, the Saviour of the world was born, he took human flesh and became one as us in order to redeem us. That is why we celebrate that day.
Christmas is a message of humility, Christ was born in a simple manger, his mom didnt have anyone to help her at times I wonder whether God did it on purpose was there something during the birth that he didnt want human eyes to see? Besides since Mary was free of original sin, i doubt if she suffered painful labour.
Christmas is a message of sharing, Christ shared our human fraility, he left his heavenly glory and became as one of us. How many times have we shared anything with even our gateman or domestic staff. That man that you see trekking every morning, have we shared our car by giving them lifts. even if it will take us out of our way.
Christmas is a message of Hope. If the son of a carpenter could become one of the most important men in his lifetime, could make a difference, could shake the social and religious system, then I think it is possible for everyone.
The Christmas debate didnt start today and it will continue but as long as we who celebrate it remeber the WHY and HOW, then no problem. its a no brainer for christians on whether or not to celebrate it.

babyface333: What a way to tackle issues. Why generalize$ why indict all nigeria men? The good men in nigeria after reading your post will just shake their head in disgust. Why indict all nigeria men? Are you saying they are no happily married women in nigeria because of less than 1percent complaint in family section. What !out those that come to the sam$e family section and extol their men.

Are you saying if genevieve marries, she is prone to misery thereby joining your so-called association of miserable married women. Ouch! I respect her stance on her marital status, but your generalization and indictment of men just irks me.

N.B: i have observed that this dsparrow always try his best to seek the favour of women by always having one or two many bad things to say about men. Never have i come accross your post do you speak atleast for a sentence in favour of men. Its too bad and it makes you always come accross like a dullard who is never objectve in issues relating with men and women.
You are very correct in your statement if not for the fact that the OP was actually replying someone who made a very silly statement to Ibo peeps (a generalisation). People make statements based on thier experiences and observances, so please allow him to air his opinion. After all he is not wrong about what a LOT of Nigerian women think about their marriages. maybe not MOST but a LOT

So today I attended mass in The Hague Netherlands, fortunately it was in the international parish so mass was in english not Dutch..
Nobody covers their hair here even the teenage girls who were serving mass, the choir was really nice, they used an organ and the music was on point. Next week is their food fair what we would call baazar and the priest allowed one if the harvest committee members to preach homily, tying in today's reading to the food fair, the proceeds of the fair will go to different charities all over the world. During consecration most people stood infact I noticed it was only the africans who knelt down. During the Our Father, the whole church held hands....I thought that was really sweet. Apart from that every thing was the same, I could as well have been in Mater or St Dominics. A sign of the unity of the Holy Church, a unity which has lastdd 2000years and will continue till the end of time.
Because of the food fair next week, fada kept talking about food and that made me hungry grin, plus the cold is crazy.
Unfortunately I didnt get the priest name.
