Politics › Re: Rascals In Govt: Jonathan A Drunk Fisherman -tinubu ! by Bawss1(m): 2:40pm On Feb 16, 2011
manny4life:
If he called a Mr. OBJ same words, that would not mean anything, hence irrelevant. Mr. Tinubu's act of calling him a fisherman is because Fishery is a form of agriculture known to particular tribes from different regions and these regions have different tribes in them. The Niger Delta area is known for its rivers and its fishery agriculture which beyond doubt is a known and accustomed tradition of this people within these areas. Put the math together and then tell me that he did not have any tribal form of intentions within him when he made this comment. GEJ calling him a rascal; rascal is a form of attributing behavior (either mischievous or dishonest), now unless you are trying to prove to me that the Youruba tribe is known for rascality (please forgive my English) and it's a known tribal , , then you can agree with with me that the both do not fit in same basket.

Fisherman/fishery has some elements of culture, tradition based upon it,

Rascal is a word for attributing unacceptable behavior to anyone and its not known to any tribe because it's a behavior element NOT cultural or traditional element.
Its amazing how we read all kinds of meaning into certain words. While I find your comment amusing in its intent it still remains fallacious. (association fallacy actually)  cheesy

Politics › Re: Billionaire Businessmen And Former Rivals Joins Jonathan’s Campaign by Bawss1(m): 12:46pm On Feb 16, 2011
@Gbawe
America, the world's champion of democracy also has businessmen supporting politicians. Obviously many of them leverage this support to win contracts and favors when their candidate is elected. This is not necessarily a good thing but it is a fact of democracy. There is no country in the world that runs some form of  democracy where such things aren't found. The way you cite Nigeria's own case makes it appear as though we have the worst form of government from hell.

BTW I apologize if my statement offended you. Was just saying how you came across here.

Gbawe:
Why do some of us enjoy senseless belligerence? I mentioned Otedola because he is mentioned in the original article . I never hinted that Otedola alone stands in the way of the electrification of Nigeria. Otedola is part of the diesel Mafia. Collectively , they are powerful and influential . You can choose to believe otherwise if you want . If Otedola began his diesel operation recently so what ? Is is not about self-perpetuation for the "owners of Nigeria" and the "in crowd" ? Can any of them live to be 200 ? Does it not make sense that they will pass the baton on to "like minds" , cronies, family members, siblings and "business as usual" buddies?
Dude your first reference to Otedola implied that he was the reason behind Nigeria's electricity problems hence Kalokalo's comments.

Where in the world do business men not support politicians?

I all I think you are a first rate conspiracy theorist. I'm not insulting you here, I'm just saying.

Jarus:
But why is it that anytime Jonathan talks, somebody will come later and interprete it? Why is it that he is always 'misunderstood/misunderpreted'? Why? The same thing happened during the MEND comments and in some other past comments. He even mistakenly said he was running for governorship instead of presidency in his Ibadan speech until they whispered to him that he was running for presidency, not governorship. Why these simple errors from Mr President? Honestly, as Tunde Fagbenle put it, for how long would we continue to pardon Jonathan for these errors? I'm seriously worried.

Anyways this new development (the Nokia and Microsoft alliance) is an interesting one. Its obviously an opportunity for Nokia to regain its mojo back and Microsoft to launch itself deeper into the phone market. I like it, can't wait to see the new Nokia models that will ensue.

I hope am not derailing from the topic bt wat dju guys think about ladies (in 9igeria pls) moving outta their parents houses (not due to relocation or marriage)and is there any female in the house who has done it?
A touchy area as many parents will worry about the safety of their daughters but where safety is not an issue then I say let the girls move out too.

NYSC dis, NYSC dat. If u like dont return home after NYSC even when u dont have a job. Nigerians think leaving independently is easy like leaving abroad. When u face d pains of life u will return like d prodigal son or daughter. LEAVE HOME ONLY WHEN YOU ARE FINANCIALY INDEPENDENT or u will return home like d dog that eats its vomit. Pride comes b4 a fall.
Its not a matter of pride here. If you are determined to stand on your feet and you make the necessary effort you can achieve the goal of moving out of your mothers house. You may not start out by living in a luxury apartment though, where you move to will most likely be into an area to which you can afford. People who stay in their parents houses even when they are capable adults are doing themselves a huge disservice; the lessons in this life do not lie in the destination as they say but in the journey.

That said the only reason anyone should be in their mommy's house when they are fully grown is because they are broke; they should strive to move out as soon as possible because living like that is very shameful.  angry All this is coming from an individual who resides here in 9ja [and has done same] and not some americana. cool

Any aspect of culture that encourages one to stay in ones parents house even when they are fully grown should be frowned upon.
Career › Re: The Glorified And Lamented Mba Degree by Bawss1(m): 12:58pm On Feb 08, 2011
ow11:
Well the chase for certificates knows no end in this our seemingly unproductive economy. To continue to strive to get into management and be noticed by MBA wielding managers, you would NEED to get one even it is a 1-day online MBA! grin

I think like you said on many threads, the solution is getting our hands dirty and tossing all the big books aside. I stand with you on this but personally, I dislike 'management' and would rather end up being a technical supervisor which to me is management but without the added need to read giant books to have the right to scream at my colleagues when my wife serves me a cold breakfast
@ ow11
The quest for MBAs is not just a Nigerian thing, it is global. Everywhere you look people and schools are on the MBA track.
Its very important that ones hands get dirty with practical work but that has to be evened out with 'studying of big books' too. smiley

In all I still think the MBA is just a variant of the masters degree; it is the schools that offer such courses that make it appear to have a life of its own so that way they profit from it.
Family › Re: Moving Out From Parent's House- Your Experience! by Bawss1(m): 9:39am On Feb 08, 2011
Move out as soon as possible the latest being when you are done with your first degree. The earlier you start to make your own decisions and fend for yourself the better for you. Its an experience that brings incalculable gain, do not hesitate till all the "conditions" are perfect.
