PhonesHuawei Mate X Re-sold For Up To $8,500 (over N3 Million) By Third-party Sellers by beejayvince(op): 8:27pm On Nov 18, 2019
After so much talk about the Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone, the phone officially went on sale last week. Huawei had a flash sale in which all units of the device were sold out in a matter of minutes. That flash sale had the Mate X sold for 16,999 Yuan (about $2,420).

The next sale of the device will take place on 22nd November. However, according to reports, third-party sellers are already selling it through unofficial channels in the Chinese market.

What is amazing is the price tag of the Mate X on the third-party websites. These sellers are selling the device for as high as 60,000 Yuan (roughly $8,540). This high pricing is attributed to Huawei’s lack of supply of the device.

Huawei unveiled the Mate X foldable smartphone during the Mobile World Congress 2019 back in February. When unfolded, the device features an 8-inch display with a resolution of 2480×2200 pixels. This display has an aspect ratio of 8:7.1.

Upon unfolding, it transforms into a dual-display phone. One side is a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 2480×1148 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The other side is a 6.38-inch display with a resolution of 2480×892 and a 25:9 aspect ratio.

The Huawei Mate X comes with two in-built batteries with a total capacity of 4,500mAh. It supports up to 55W fast charging. According to Huawei, the phone can charge from zero to 85 percent in just 30 minutes.

PhonesRealme CEO Tweets From Iphone; Mixed Reactions Follow by beejayvince(op): 4:30pm On Nov 17, 2019
Over the years, we have seen official Android phone accounts posting tweets with an iPhone. One unforgettable case was when Samsung Mobile Nigeria made a Galaxy Note 9 tweet using an iPhone. Another was a tweet announcing the Razer Phone 2.

We have also seen brand ambassadors of Android phones making sponsored posts on social media using iPhones. An example was when Anushka Sharma made a Google Pixel 2 XL tweet using an iPhone. Gal Gadot also made a Huawei Mate 10 Pro tweet using an iPhone.

Now, there appears to be a case that even tops all the aforementioned. Just yesterday, there was a tweet from Madhav Sheth, the CEO of Realme Mobiles, which was made using an iPhone. Sheth has since deleted the tweet which talked about new updates for the Realme 3 and Realme 3i. But a screenshot of the tweet is available online.

https://www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Realme-CEO-tweets-using-an-iPhone.jpg

It is still unclear if Sheth posted the tweet by himself or if an assistant managing his account did that. Regardless of who posted it, the tweet is not very good for the image of the company.

Some Twitter users are of the opinion that it means Madhav Sheth does not trust his own brand. Others are of the opinion that what happened is not a crime.

PhonesQualcomm To Unveil The Snapdragon 865 In December by beejayvince(op): 8:37pm On Nov 08, 2019
The Snapdragon 865 is coming, and we will almost definitely see it in December. Qualcomm has already scheduled its Tech Summit for December 3-19, 2019 in Hawaii.

https://www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/gsmarena_002-1-1.jpg

This Tech Summit is where Qualcomm usually unveils its latest chipset. So, we will likely see the Snapdragon 865 in the first week of December.

We do not have all the details about the Snapdragon 865 yet. However, we expect that it will be built on a 7nm manufacturing process.

The chipset will likely come in two variants. This includes a widely-available variant and a more expensive one. The former will likely be for LTE markets while the latter will come with a Snapdragon X55 5G modem.

The Snapdragon 865 may be built on Samsung’s 7nm EUV process, rather than TSMC’s FinFET process. This will likely come with improved power consumption.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer has already completed the development of the 5nm EUV manufacturing process. Production may start on this before the end of this year.

Samsung recently filed a patent with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The Patent published on November 6, 2019 describes technology for lossless zoom called “Space Zoom”. This feature could be in the soon-to-be released Samsung Galaxy S11 smartphones in February, 2020.

PhonesSamsung Galaxy S11 Will Not Be Samsung’s Next Phone As New Phone Leaks by beejayvince(op): 7:03pm On Nov 07, 2019
The Samsung Galaxy S11 is set to come out early next year as we know of the S series. However, recent leaks reveal that it is not the only phone that Samsung is working on right now.

Rumors already have it that Samsung is working on a foldable smartphone with a clamshell design. This could be a phone to compete with the Motorola RAZR 2019, Motorola’s own foldable RAZR phone.

Even the foldable smartphone is not the one we are talking about now. We may actually be getting a new international release from Samsung sooner than we thought.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite will be a budget version of the Galaxy S10. However, this does not mean that its specifications are mediocre.

In fact, the device will reportedly pack an impressive 4,370mAh battery. This is bigger than what we see in any of Samsung’s current smartphones. To put this in perspective, the Galaxy S10 packs a 3,400mAh battery while the Galaxy S10 Plus enjoys a 4,300mAh battery.

PoliticsSenator Dayo Adeyeye Loses Senatorial Seat At Appellate Court by beejayvince(op): 6:27pm On Nov 06, 2019
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, representing Ekiti South Senatorial District has been ordered to vacate his seat by the Kaduna Division of the Court of Appeals after his victory at the 2019 polls was declared null and void. Replacing him is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, who has been adjudged the rightful winner of the Ekiti South senatorial district election, held on February 23, 2019.

After Dayo Adeyeye was declared as the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mrs Abiodun Ogunjimi challenged the result at the electoral tribunal as she cited massive irregularities, claiming that the election was not conducted in substantial compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Acts.

The tribunal overturned INEC’s result, nullifying the results from some polling units while confirming Mrs Abiodun as the winner. A distraught Adeyeye however took his case to the Appeal Court, petitioning the appellate court to revoke the verdict of the tribunal.

However, the Appeal Court upheld the tribunal’s verdict as the judgement delivered today by Justice Uzor Anyanwu maintained Senator Abiodun as the rightful winner and ordered INEC to issue fresh certificate of return to Senator Abiodun Olujimi.

PoliticsSenate Confirms Tsoho As Chief Judge Of The Federal High Court by beejayvince(op): 5:53pm On Nov 05, 2019
The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Justice John Tsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

Just last week on 29th October, the Senate deliberated on President Muhammadu Buhari’s request to confirm Tsoho’s nomination for appointment as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.

This confirmation came on Tuesday, following a report submitted by Senator Michael Bamidele, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters. The report recommended that Tsoho’s appointment be confirmed.

Bamidele said that the appointment was necessary, considering the retirement of Justice Adamu AbdulKafarati back in July. He said, “In compliance with this requirement the erstwhile Chief Judge, retired on July 25, thus making the position of the Chief Judge of the Court, vacant.”

According to Bamidele, “For the avoidance of doubt, the appointment of Justice Tsoho was made pursuant to Section 250 of the 1999 Constitution. It provides that the appointment of a person to the Office of the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court shall be made by the President on the recommendation of the National Industrial Council, subject to confirmation of such appointment by the Senate.”

Bamidele further added that Tsoho was recommended in order of seniority and preference by the Federal Judicial Service Commission to the National Judicial Council for appointment as Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. He stated that Tsoho was the most senior Judge on the bench of the Federal High Court.

In a similar development, the Senate also confirmed the appointment of Justice Benedict Kanyip as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. This was also necessary considering the retirement of Justice Babatunde Adejumo.

Ahmad Lawan, President of the Senate, called for more funding for the Judiciary to make that arm of the Government more effective.

PoliticsFG To Reduce The Price Of Rice As Christmas Approaches by beejayvince(op): 4:36pm On Nov 05, 2019
With the recent border closure in Nigeria, it is not surprising that the price of rice went up. Already, the Government has stated the conditions for re-opening the borders. However, Nigerians are more concerned about the high prices of foodstuffs right now.

To tackle this, the National Food Security Council (NFSC) will make rice available before Christmas. This council is chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Governor Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Deputy Chairman of the Council, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. Bagudu was on the entourage of Buhari’s official visit to Saudi Arabia, a visit in which President Buhari and Saudi Crown Prince agreed to establish a Nigeria-Saudi Arabia Council.

According to Bagudu, the Council is aware of the hike in the price of rice. He added that the government was also aware of the activities of some people frustrating the new rice policy. He, however, assured Nigerians that rice would be made available for cheap.

Bagudu stated that the Committee was taking steps towards ensuring that rice is taken to markets that can easily experience shortages. Adding that there is enough production of rice in the country, the Deputy Chairman assured Nigerians that the Council was working on ensuring the availability of rice across the country. According to him, this will make the prices come down, reflective of the cost of production.

PoliticsThere Is More Corruption In NASS Than In The Judiciary – NJC by beejayvince(op): 3:59pm On Nov 05, 2019
There was a clash of interests and exchange of words yesterday as the Senate accused the Judiciary of being extremely corrupt, an accusation the Judiciary found very disrespectful and to which they responded in like manner, saying that the Judiciary will be seen as saint when placed side by side the Senate on the scale of corruption.

This remark against the Judiciary was made by the chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central), in his closing remarks after confirmation hearing session the committee had with Justice John Tsoho and Justice Benedict Bakwaoh Kanyip.

He said, “The problem at hand is that the judiciary is corrupt and it is time for Nigeria and Nigerians to rise up in rescuing it with adequate funding. As it is with the nation’s judiciary today, even if saints are appointed from heaven to serve as justices and judges, it is only strength of character that can prevent them from being corrupt and dispense justice as required.”

In response to the accusations, the executive secretary of the National Judicial Council (NJC), Ahmed Gambo Saleh said that the welfare packages for judicial officers in this country are nothing to write home about as Judges’ salaries were last reviewed in 2007. As a rebuttal to the words of Senator Bamidele, Saleh said that the supposed corruption in the Judiciary is still little when compared to that of the Senate. “I don’t think that there’s all that corruption in the judiciary. But when the so-called corruption in the judiciary is weighed against what is obtainable in other systems, the judiciary would be adjudged a saint.”

PoliticsFederal Government Sets Conditions For Reopening Nigeria’s Borders by beejayvince(op): 8:02am On Nov 05, 2019
The Federal Government has stated in unequivocal terms that before it will consider reopening the country’s borders for neighboring countries to resume importing their goods, there are conditions which must be met. This was disclosed yesterday in Abuja by the minister of foreign affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama at the meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Temporary Partial Closure of Land Borders.

He said that the Federal Government of Nigeria would no longer accept imported goods that were repackaged by neighbouring countries and brought to Nigeria insisting that neighbouring countries would have to respect the Economic Community of West African States’ ‘rules of origin’ if they must bring goods into the country.

Others who were at the meeting were the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs, Col. Hamid Ali (retd) and the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola. The conditions made by the Federal Government will be presented to neighboring countries, including Benin and Niger Republic in two weeks when a meeting will be scheduled, and where it will be made known that these terms are to be met before the Nigerian land borders would be re-opened.

He stated that, henceforth, “it is an absolute requirement of the government of Nigeria that any import coming through our land borders, when those imports transit in goods, that is to say when they are coming from outside the ECOWAS region and imported into an ECOWAS member state, that those goods should retain their original packaging. There should be no modification whatsoever to the packaging of those goods imported into an ECOWAS member state destined for Nigeria. This is an absolute condition that will not be compromised; So any transit in goods coming into this country from transiting ECOWAS member state must ensure that.

“For goods predominantly produced in ECOWAS member states, the rules of origin must be satisfied.”

The minister said that these measures are being put in place to ensure that Nigeria stops being a dumping ground where all manner of goods are dropped, adding that it is the wish of the President that things get resolved quickly, therefore a meeting has been scheduled with these neighboring countries which would have the the heads of the ministries of foreign affairs, interior, finance, the customs, immigration, the National Intelligence Agency and the security segment of these countries in attendance.

Another condition put forward by the minister is that Nigeria would henceforth have a thorough check of the goods coming in. “We would now insist on proper recognized packaging of those goods. No longer would we have goods of all shapes and sizes just going through the borders. We are going to have accepted conditions for the packaging of goods that would be transported by roads across our borders to maintain best practices in packaging of those goods.”

On migration for those coming into the country, he said, “as far as Nigeria is concerned, recognised travel document means officially passports, no more acceptance of any other means of identification.”

Speaking on the set January 31st date for border reopening, the Comptroller-General, Colonel Ali disclosed that the date is not an ultimatum for the reopening, stating that depending on the results from the scheduled meeting, the borders might be opened at an earlier date but this depends on getting positive agreement from the neighboring countries, emphasizing that the Federal Government will not back down on the conditions set. In his words, “… the issue of 31st January is not a terminal date. If all these things are put together and we reached an agreement, we could even relax these things before the 31st of January. So, it is not sacrosanct but it is not a terminal date, we can even surpass January 31st and still hold on to what we are doing.”

PhonesWhatsapp For Android Finally Gets Fingerprint Lock Feature by beejayvince(op): 2:17pm On Nov 01, 2019
Earlier this year, WhatsApp added Touch ID and Face ID as extra privacy layers on iOS. Android users kept wondering when they would get such features.

The wait is finally over; WhatsApp has announced Fingerprint Lock for Android. Now, WhatsApp users on Android can choose to secure the app using their fingerprint.

The Fingerprint Lock feature comes with the latest WhatsApp update on Android. WhatsApp has already started rolling out the update. This means that with just a simple setting, you can now hide your conversations behind a fingerprint lock.

One thing to note about the WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock is that it does not block calls. You can still receive calls even if you lock your app with your fingerprint. However, it hides your chats and other logs.

WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock offers an option to set a timer on automatic lock. This is for you to set how often you want the fingerprint unlock page to come up.

To activate WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock on your Android phone, the first step is to open WhatsApp. Then go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint Lock. Toggle on Unlock with fingerprint, and confirm your fingerprint. Select how long you want it to take to automatically lock the app.

What do you think about this new development for WhatsApp on Android?

PoliticsI Can Fix Nigeria In 24 Months If I Take Over In 2023 - Olusegun Bamgbose by beejayvince(op): 5:10pm On Oct 31, 2019
Olusegun Bamgbose, President of the Caleb and Greg Foundation, has vowed to take over power when President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure expires in 2023. In an interview with Daily Post, the legal practitioner revealed ways in which he plans to address the issue of poverty in Nigeria.

Bamgbose claimed that he remains the most qualified Nigerian to succeed Buhari. According to him, Buhari will need to be succeeded by a builder and a man with zero tolerance. Claiming that he has zero-tolerance for corruption, he said that he was the one to fill the gap.

One of the biggest highlights of Bamgbose’s interview was when he said that he could fix Nigeria in 24 months. He said that he would do this by joining forces with the government and stakeholders. PoliticsSupreme Court Final Verdict – The Reactions by beejayvince(op): 8:53am On Oct 31, 2019
In this piece, we bring to you some of the reactions trailing the final verdict of the Supreme Court on the appeal filed by the PDP contesting the victory of the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari, who is currently out of the country spoke through his Media Aide special assistant, Mr Garba Shehu. He started by commanding the decision of the Supreme Court for rightly upholding INEC’s official results of the February 23rd Presidential election and he then urged that there should be no further distractions from either camp. In his words, “This matter (Atiku’s case) is now closed…the opposition, as much as the government, must now move on; and without the need for further distractions.” “The former Vice President and his political party exercised their rights, under the Nigerian Constitution and Electoral Laws, to petition the courts and dispute the result of the election. The elected President and his government now must be enabled to focus solely on addressing the issues that concern the country.”

Ex-vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was the opposition party’s presidential candidate and the one who contested the electoral results is clearly still dissatisfied with the verdict of the Supreme Court. He strongly believes that not only has the democratic process of the country been compromised, but also the freedom of the Judiciary and the Press has been sabotaged in Nigeria, thereby making it an herculean task for anyone to seek redress in the court of law. Speaking in Abuja, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said, “the Nigerian judiciary has been sabotaged and undermined by an over-reaching and dictatorial cabal.” “In a democracy, you need a strong judiciary, a free press and an impartial electoral umpire. Nigeria has none of those three elements as of today.”

He added however that this final verdict will not break his spirit, neither will he stop fighting the good cause for the emancipation of Nigerians. He stated that “This is not a time for too many words. It will suffice for me to remind Nigeria of this: We are an independent nation and we are the architects of our fate. If we do not build a free Nigeria, we may end up destroying her, and God forbid that that should be the case. I was a democrat, and I will always continue to be a democrat.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr Lanre Issa-Onilu hailed the Judiciary for standing firm and upholding the mandate of the Nigerian people despite the challenges posed by the PDP. He added further that it is time for the PDP to drop all vendettas and join hands with Mr President in building the nation. In his words, “we enjoin the PDP and Atiku to jettison their destructive and disruptive agenda against Nigeria, which they have made up their minds to pursue for the next four years.”

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan and the Executive Governor of Osun State both sent congratulatory messages to the President.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila urged the opposition party to take the verdict in good faith and focus on nation-building. “I want to urge Mr Atiku Abubakar, who has put to the test our justice delivery system by contesting the election result from the lowest to the highest court, and the PDP to accept the judgment in good faith and in the spirit of sportsmanship and help the government in building a strong, prosperous and united Nigeria.”

Reacting to the verdict of the Supreme Court, the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party said that the final verdict lies with God, insisting that the Supreme Court simply dismissed an appeal that had enough merit and substance. He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain resolute.

PoliticsAdams Oshiomhole: Obasanjo Travelled More Than Buhari by beejayvince(op): 8:06pm On Oct 30, 2019
Following the allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari engages in frequent foreign trips, the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said that the president was yet to match any of his predecessors in visiting foreign lands, especially former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Oshiomhole faulted the claims while fielding questions from journalists yesterday in Abuja.

He said that the late Gani Fawehinmi ín a book he wrote calculated the number of days Obasanjo spent in foreign lands during his eight-year tenure as the president of the country.

Oshiomohle argued that “saying that President involves in frequent trips is not correct. I remember very well, there is no President in recent Nigeria’s history, since 1999 till now, that travelled out of Nigeria as much as former President Olusegun Okikiola Aremu Obasanjo did.

“If you check through your newspapers and play back some of your electronic coverages, you will find where Gani Fawehinmi of blessed memory took time to calculate the number of days President Obasanjo was out of Nigeria, visiting foreign countries.

“Reacting to a recent statement credited to the Chairman of Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), Prof. Itse Sagay, accusing Oshiomhole of creating more problems for the party with his aggressive attitude, the chairman of the ruling party said that he won’t reply through the media over series of allegations levelled against him about crisis in the party and Edo State.

He said though he had not read what the PACAC chairman said, he added that even if he had read it, he won’t reply through newspapers out of respect he has for him.

The national chairman said he remembered very well that Sagay was one of those who asked him to contest for president, insisting that he would not reply him through the newspapers, but would find out what he had said.

PoliticsProcurement Of 820 Buses: Ambode, Lagos State House Of Assembly In Legal Battle by beejayvince(op): 7:43am On Oct 30, 2019
There is a fresh battle line drawn between the erstwhile Governor of Lagos State, Akimwunmi Ambode and the State’s House of Assembly as the one-time governor heads to the State’s High Court to seek for an injunction stopping the lawmakers from probing him regarding the 820 mass transit buses procured by his administration while in office.

The State’s House of Assembly have accused the then governor of going outside the budget to acquire the 820 buses, hence a summons was sent that the he should appear before the House today to explain himself, adding that failure to comply with the order would get him arrested.

Expectedly, this act by the lawmakers is one which the ex-governor believes to be vindictive and a misrepresentation of figures and facts. He thereby, through this lawyer, Mr Tayo Oyetibo went before the State’s High Court seeking for an injunction to stop the summons from the lawmakers.

What the ex-governor wants is that the court should stop the lawmakers “from compelling the claimant, in any manner whatsoever, to appear before the defendants pursuant to the resolution passed by the defendants on August 27, 2019 or any other resolution passed in respect of the subject matter of this suit.”
He pointed to the fact that “the procurement of the 820 buses was captured in the 2018 Appropriation Law which was duly approved by the House.” He added that “Part of the items authorised under Capital Expenditure was: ‘LAGBUS Public Transport Infrastructure; part financing of 820 buses’ which was Item 8 under Schedule 1- Part C of the bill.”
The Presiding Judge, Justice Y. A. Akinsanya however ordered the ex-governor to put the lawmakers on notice.

The times are tough for the erstwhile governor who is currently being haunted by the EFCC, with his house raided and billions of Naira found in three different accounts linked to him. The summons by the lawmakers come at a difficult time for Akinwunmi Ambode and it remains to be seen if he would appear before the lawmakers later today.
