PhonesAndroid Distribution Numbers For August 2018; Nougat Still In The Lead by beejayvince(op): 10:48pm On Sep 02, 2018
Google has released the Android distribution numbers for August, 2018, and the list reveals the Android Oreo as the biggest gain.

The recently released Android 9 Pie was absent on the list. Considering the fact that Google only skips versions with shares below the 0.1% threshold, it is safe to assume that Android 9 Pie does not yet cover up to 0.1% of smartphones running on the Android OS.

So far, only Google's Pixel phones and the Essential Phone 1 have gotten the stable release of Android Pie. But still, it is quite interesting to think that Google's Pixel phones actually make up less than 0.1% of the total Android market.

Android Oreo (8 and 8.1) went up from 12.1% in July to 14.6% in August.

Here are the numbers:

1. Nougat (7.0 and 7.1) - 30.8%

2. Marshmallow - 22.7%

3. Lollipop - 19.2%

4. Oreo - 14.6%

5. KitKat - 8.6%

6. Jelly Bean - 2.5%

7. Ice Cream Sandwich - 0.3%

8. Gingerbread - 0.3%

Android Pie will probably be included in the September distribution list if it finds its way to more and more devices.

PhonesHuawei Says Its New Smartphone Chip Is Totally Faster Than Snapdragon by beejayvince(op): 9:28am On Sep 01, 2018
When it comes to smartphone chipset dominance, the two biggest contenders have always been Qualcomm's Snapdragon and Apple's A series of chips. The competition between these two have been strong, each striving to make Apple or Android devices faster.

However, right now, it appears that a new chip is about to break that duopoly.

Huawei's Kirin 980, which the company has confirmed will power the Mate 20, is one powerful chipset that is set to shake the market.

Ahead of the IFA in Berlin, the Chinese phone giant has unveiled details about the Kirin 980 chipset. The company revealed that this chipset will power its next line of flagships.

The Kirin 980 chipset enjoys many firsts:

> It is the first smartphone built with a 7-nanometer process.

> It is the first SoC to support the ultra-fast 2,133MHz LPDDR4X memory.

> It is the first smartphone chip to feature ARM's Cortex-A76 CPU as well as its new Mali-G76 GPU.

Of course, all these firsts might not really make much sense to the average consumer. What users want is performance, and Huawei has promised improved performance with the Kirin 980. The company revealed that this new chipset offers about 75% better performance than the last generation. It promises a 58% improvement in power efficiency.

Huawei showed a lot of charts which show the Kirin 980 to be significantly faster than Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chip but did not give permission to share. The chip offers faster app launch times than Snapdragon 845. It also offers significantly faster image recognition, as well as better real-time processing for video.

Find out the top amazing features to expect in the Kirin 980 chip here:

PhonesNew Samsung Leak Reveals Plans For Faster Galaxy S10 Updates by beejayvince(op): 11:17am On Aug 31, 2018
Samsung is, no doubt, a big player in the smartphone industry. But over time, the South Korean giant has been behind when it comes to the area of Android updates.

It appears this is about to change however, considering new leaks from online benchmarking tools. The leaks reveal test software on the Galaxy S10, that is more up to date than ever before.

https://i2.wp.com/www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Galaxy-S10-Concept-Creative-Commons-by-mobil-helden.deCREATIVE-COMMONS-BY-MOBIL-HELDEN.DE_.jpg?resize=768%2C432&ssl=1

Just as the Galaxy S8 was launched early last year, and the Galaxy S9 was launched early this year, it is expected that the Galaxy S10 will launch early next year. Samsung is currently carrying out tests on the software and hardware of the upcoming device.

Apparently, rolling out updates to Android is not an easy task. That is why Google started the Android One programme. However, since Samsung places much importance on its visual identity (via TouchWiz), the Android One programme may not exactly work well.

The introduction of the Project Treble feature by Google in Android 8 Oreo means that things might actually speed up, even for Samsung. Online benchmarking tools are already reporting the Galaxy S9+ (SM-G965) running Android 9 Pie.

What this whole thing means is that Galaxy S9 and S9+ users may likely get the update to Android 9 Pie sooner than expected. It also means that we can expect faster updates even of the Galaxy S10.

PhonesFive Features That Place The Huawei P20 Pro Above Apple's Iphone X by beejayvince(op): 10:07am On Aug 23, 2018
No doubt, both Huawei's P20 Pro and Apple's iPhone X are amazing devices. However, when it comes to the decision to get a new smartphone, users always want to get the best for their money. So, they research about their options.

https://i0.wp.com/www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Huawei-P20-Pro-Vs.-iPhone-X.jpg?w=638&ssl=1

Apple's iPhones have generally been known for smooth user experience with no lagging. When the iPhone X came to play last year though, there were trolls about it all over the internet.

Huawei's devices have generally been known for quality camera, even though the company was recently caught faking a smartphone photo with a DSLR camera in a commercial.

Still, here are five features that the P20 Pro packs and the iPhone X lacks (or does not meet up to).

1. Huawei P20 Pro Vs. iPhone X: Camera

Over the years, camera quality has become a deciding factor for a lot of people when making the decision to buy a smartphone. Undoubtedly, Apple's iPhone X has one of the best cameras out there. It enjoys a dual camera setup with two 12MP sensors which have optical image stabilisation. On the front of the device sits a 7MP sensor.

https://i0.wp.com/www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Huawei-P20-Pro-Vs.-iPhone-X-Camera.png?w=696&ssl=1

The P20 Pro, on the other hand, sports a triple camera setup, packing three lenses at the rear. And these are not just 12MP lenses; the device has a 40MP RGB lens, a 20MP monochrome lens, and an 8MP telephoto lens. Coupled with 5x hybrid zoom, the P20 Pro's camera produces a lot of detail in photos. It also offers amazing night shots and videos. The P20 Pro also beats the iPhone X on the front, sporting a 24MP sensor for amazing selfies.

2. Huawei P20 Pro Vs. iPhone X: RAM And Internal Memory

Apple decided to go up to 3GB or RAM on the iPhone X even though iPhones have commonly be accepted to work more smoothly than Android devices. The 3GB RAM means that the iPhone X enjoys amazing speed and fluidity when being used. The base variant of the iPhone X has an internal memory of 64GB for users to store files.

Huawei P20 Pro packs RAM double that of the iPhone X, enjoying a whopping 6GB or RAM. This makes the device very fast to use, and able to condone multitasking quite well. The base variant of the P20 Pro packs an internal memory of 128GB, again double that of the iPhone X. This gives users more space to store their files.

Of course, the iPhone X also has a 256GB variant. But that comes at an even higher price.

3. Huawei P20 Pro Vs. iPhone X: Battery

The battery capacity of a smartphone is another very important factor to consider. What is the point of all the amazing features if you do not have a good battery to enjoy them, right?

Apple's iPhone X is powered by a 2,716mAh battery. This is not exactly small; it can power the device for quite a while.

However, when compared to the 4,000mAh battery pack that powers the Huawei P20 Pro, Apple's iPhone X is no match at all.

https://i2.wp.com/www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Huawei-P20-Pro-Charging-Gear.jpg?w=588&ssl=1

The screen, processor, and software of a phone generally affect the rate of battery consumption. Both the P20 Pro and the iPhone X have AMOLED displays. This means that the P20 Pro's battery will likely last longer than that of the iPhone X if subjected to the same usage.

4. Huawei P20 Pro Vs. iPhone X: Screen Size

In a number of cases, the bigger the screen, the better the user experience. This makes screen size another factor a lot of people consider when buying a new phone. It is especially important for gamers and movie lovers. In this regard, both the iPhone X and the Huawei P20 Pro have large screens.

https://i0.wp.com/www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Huawei-P20-Pro-6.jpg?w=685&ssl=1

Apple's iPhone has a 5.8-inch display with a resolution of 1125p. Huawei's P20 Pro enjoys a 6.1-inch display with a 1080p resolution; the screen is slightly taller than the iPhone X's.

Huawei P20 Pro Vs. iPhone X: Dual-SIM Support

Apple's iPhones have always lacked dual-SIM support, and this is not different with the iPhone X. It is one of the advantages that many Android devices generally have over iPhones.

Huawei's P20 Pro has dual-SIM support, as with many of the company's other phones. Reports have it that Apple may start offering devices with dual-SIM support soon. But even then, the P20 Pro still currently has that advantage over the iPhone X.

Even with these features, Huawei is still looking to penetrate the market more with the P20 Pro, planning the release of two new gradient color variants of the device on 30th August, 2018. In addition, the company has made it known that a 7nm Kirin 980 SoC will power the Mate 20, set to be released before the end of the year.

PhonesApple's 2018 Smartphones To Support Apple Pencil For OLED Models by beejayvince(op): 9:04am On Aug 18, 2018
A new report has shown that OLED models of Apple's coming smartphones will support the Apple Pencil.

The usage of the pencil might make sense on large iPhone screens with edge-to-edge display with the main obstacle being that the device would have to support the pencil's low-latency technology.

If the reports are anything to go by, then Apple might be compelled to design a new iPhone case with a pencil holder, rather than have users keep the accessory loose.

Reports so far have it that both OLED models of Apple's 2018 release will offer three storage tiers as against two offered by 2017's iPhone X. In addition to the 64GB and 256GB variants, there will also be a 512GB variant. This 512GB may as well be the next new thing as it is found in the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 as well.

The move to include the Apple Pencil would put the coming iPhones in direct competition with the Galaxy Note 9, which not only comes with a stylus but has a special slot for storage and charging as well.

Even though a pencil might be of limited use on a small screen, it could also be useful for taking notes and making annotations. It may especially come in handy in the plus models which are usually bigger.

Apple's 2018 iPhones Release Dates

If Apple's past launches are anything to go by, then we should expect the new iPhones to make their official debut in September, 2018.

PoliticsMy Defection Is Not For Selfish Reasons - Kwara State Governor Ahmed by beejayvince(op): 8:11am On Aug 08, 2018
The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has defended his decision to defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress APC for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Governor Ahmed explained that contrary to claims, his defection was not for selfish reasons but to secure a better platform with abundant opportunities for the people of Kwara State.

He spoke about the defection at the Government House in Ilorin when he received a delegation from Oro in Irepodun Local Government Area led by the National President of the Oro Descendants Union, Uthman Balogun. According to him, the benefits that accrued to the state under the APC were not commensurate with the 100 per cent victory the party recorded in 2015.

“The desired expectation is not achieved while some individuals are being persecuted by the government,” he said. The governor and all but one of the members of the Kwara State House of Assembly had defected from the APC to the PDP last week along with Senate President Bukola Saraki. While some have argued that their motives were selfish, the governor insists the defections were as a result of injustice. “Injustice within the party is unbearable,” he said.

WebmastersGoogle Indexing: 5 Things To Put In Place As A Blogger In Nigeria by beejayvince(op):
Blogging has become one of the most popular online businesses in Nigeria. This is mainly owing to the fact that a number of Nigerians have actually achieved much success from it.

However, very many Nigerians go about blogging wrongly. Information websites typically need search engines for traffic. This is where Google indexing comes to play. Google is currently the biggest search engine in the world. So, you might want to consider having your website displayed on Google's Search Engine Results Page (SERP) for certain keywords.

Sometimes, Google indexing may take weeks or even months. However, you probably do not want that. There are things you can do to get your website indexed within days.

What is Google Indexing?

According to an answer on Quora:

"indexing is the process of adding web pages into Google search. Depending upon which meta tag you used (index or NO-index), Google will crawl and index your pages. A no-index tag means that that page will not be added into the web search's index. By default, every WordPress post and page is indexed."

How to know if your Website is Google-indexed

If you have a website that is not very new, then it is probably indexed already. This is because, whether you do some things or not, Google will eventually index your website. However, you should consider getting it indexed early.

To find out if your website is indexed on Google, simply go to Google search page, and search for the following query:

"site:yourdomain.com".

For example, to check the Google index status of nigerianindex.com, all you have to do is search for "site:nigerianindex.com".

If your site is indexed on Google, the result page will show links to your website. If your site is not indexed, there will be no search results. Here are tips to follow to get your site indexed on time. Even if your site is indexed already, you should still follow these tips for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

What you should set up for Google Indexing

One of the most important things to do after setting up your website is to submit it to Google through the Google Search Console. Visit the Search Console, and log in with your Gmail address. Then, follow the instructions on the page to add and verify your website. Also, you should submit your website's sitemap. You can create this using various sitemap plugins available on WordPress. Google Search Console will let you easily monitor the index status of your site.

Other Things to put in place for Google Indexing

1. Post Quality Content:

The main aim of many websites is to pass information to readers. So, it's no wonder they say content is king. When creating content for your site, put yourself in the shoes of the readers. Do not post what you would not want to read. Even Google recognises good content. Post quality content, and before long, Google bots will find and index your website.

2. Use Keywords properly:

Keywords are what readers search for on search engines when they seek information. You need to research for the proper keywords at any time. This is to make sure that you post what people are actually searching for. However, you must use keywords like you are writing for humans, and not stuff your post with keywords. Let keywords appear in your posts in the right quantity.

3. Update your Website often enough:

If you want Google to index your site on time, you should always keep your readers updated. The more often you post quality content, the higher your page authority and domain authority get. This also means that Google bots have interaction with your website more often, making it easy to get your posts indexed.

4. Post original content:

Gone are the days when "copy and paste" was overlooked. Today, you may get penalised for copying someone else's content. As a blogger who wants to get their website or posts indexed quickly, you must make sure that you come up with original content for your website. If you have to get information from other sites, use the information for research purposes only. Then, come up with your own original post. Do not scrape content directly from other websites. If you do that, Google may even block you from the search engine.

5. Use Internal Links in your Posts:

Google bots cover more ground when crawling a website with internal links. Internal links are the links you put in posts to lead to some other posts on your website. It is easier for Google bots to crawl your website when your posts are connected to one another. This means that internal linking makes Google indexing easier and faster. If you write a post about profitable blogging niches, for example, you may link back to a post about how to start blogging. Google bots understand this, and your website will easily be indexed.

PhonesLG V40 ThinQ May Sport A Triple Camera Setup Like The Huawei P20 Pro by beejayvince(op):
Huawei’s P20 Pro may not be the only smartphone with a triple camera setup for much longer. New rumours have suggested that LG's new flagship, the V40 ThinQ may come with a triple camera setup.

https://i2.wp.com/www.smartphonecamp.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/LG-may-follow-Huawei-into-Tripple-Camera-Territory.jpg?resize=1024%2C475&ssl=1

LG has been known to use a primary lens coupled with a super wide-angle lens in their flagships.

In the case of the V40 ThinQ, there will reportedly be the addition of a "super telephoto" lens. This lens is expected to provide 3X optical zoom just like the Huawei P20 Pro's.

The three cameras will be 20MP, 16MP and 13MP. These will likely be the primary super wide-angle and telephoto lens respectively.

Considering the US government's spat with Huawei, the P20 Pro is currently not available in the USA.

In addition, LG is reportedly including a 3D face recognition feature. This will however use two front-facing cameras rather than infrared technology.

Let us hope to see both the Huawei P20 Pro and the LG V40 ThinQ being used by many Nigerians soon. That also matters, not just the story.
