Ha! While Air Peace must be applauded, the N300 Million cost they are posting ....me nor understand o! prof2007: The number of Nigerians that made it back to Nigeria drastically reduced following moves by the South African government to frustrate the evacuation efforts. Only about 187 adults and children were successfully evacuated on Wednesday as against the 320 Nigerians expected back home.
The flight arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at 9.43pm.
One of the returnees, Uche Victor, told journalists that he left his wife who he said was a Cameronian and a young daughter behind. He said, “I’m bleeding because I left my wife and baby but I have to come back because my mother cries for me to return. If something happens to me she will suffer. I left my business, I came back with nothing. South Africans believe all Nigerians are drug pushers, but I don’t know the colour of any drug.”
Victor, who explained that he left Nigeria for South Africa in 2007, explained that the attacks were anger against the government. “They are only venting their anger on foreigners. They started with black and will move to whites,” he said.
According to him, the flight would have returned earlier but the South African government made it difficult. “The didn’t want us to go but for Nigeria’s consulate,” he added.
Another returnee from Abia State, who gave his name as Onuoha, said a lot of Nigerians were still stranded as they could not return with their properties.
Aliu Saheed, from Osun State, said his shop was burgled and he came back home empty-handed. “But I’m happy to be home, I’m not going back again,” he said.
S’A CANCELS VISAS ISSUED TO RETURNING NIGERIANS One of our correspondents learnt that the South African authorities went further to cancel visas that were issued to the returning Nigerians. A picture on Facebook showed a Nigerian passport with a cancelled South African visa as of September 10.
The Chairman, Nigerian Diaspora Commission, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said there was 15 hours delay before the flight left South Africa. She had earlier told journalists that the South African authorities brought new immigration rules before the affected Nigerians could be allowed to board the aircraft.
According to Dabiri-Erewa, the Federal Government is giving N40,000 worth of airtime to last them for two months as well as stipend of N10,000 for transport. She also said there were plans for the Bank of Industry to provide some money for the returnees to start small businesses.
Meanwhile, the Chief Operating Officer of Air Peace, Mrs Toyin Olajide, said the evacuation would cost the airline about N300m. Olajide said the cost would include payment of passenger service charge, aeronautical and other charges.

Something doesn't seem right here ....these returnees, did. they have the correct papers allowing them reside in SA? Appears most of them probably went on holiday and decided to remain there to hustle. No Nigerian fully settled in SA would return leaving behind their hard-earned properties. Again ....the news that most of them had expired documents speaks volume why they were probably stranded there. They should be debriefed properly if you ask me. I want to believe that some of the returnees are actually coming back for a holiday (those that couldn't it during the last Christmas & Easter break) |

Politics › Re: Atiku Vs Buhari: Summary & Key Rulings To Note As Tribunal Goes On Break by bigtt76(f): 3:56pm On Sep 11, 2019 |
@embolden I tried to point this out to someone and the person was just yarning opata. The tribunal is not responsible for adjuging if a candidates is qualified to contest. It can only rule on issues bordering around the constitutionally stated requirement being argued as not required or in doubt what the requirement is. The onus is on INEC to confirm that a candidate is qualified before allowing him or her to contest the election. "It ruled that its power does not include determining the qualification of a petitioner in an election dispute, but to determine whether a person elected to the office of the president was validly elected and not to query the qualification of the petitioners to have contested the election, whose outcome was being queried" State001: The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal is currently sitting in Abuja, to decide the fate of PDP/Atiku and APC/Buhari over the February 23, 2019 presidential election, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV recalls that INEC had declared Buhari and the APC as winner of the election, having polled a total of 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival, Atiku, who it said polled a total of 11,262,978 votes.
The five-man panel of justices of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, is headed by Justice Mohammed Garba, as Chairman.
Here are summary of the rulings so far, and key points to note, as brought to you by Igbere TV...
Key rulings to note
- Tribunal unanimously dismissed INEC’s motion asking Vice President Osinbajo to be joined in the petition. It ruled that a vice presidential candidate is not a necessary party in an election petition but an appendage of the presidential candidate who nominated him.
- Tribunal dismissed INEC's motion arguing that Atiku's lead counsel, Livy Uzoukwu, is not a legal practitioner called to the Nigerian Bar.
- Tribunal refused INEC's request to dismiss Atiku's prayer seeking Buhari's disqualification on the ground that he was not qualified to contest the election.
- Ruling on the allegations of police and military interference, harassment and intimidation and ballot stuffing among others, filed by Atiku, the tribunal strike out the application for non-joinder of the parties who have been accused.
- Tribunal dismissed Buhari's application that Atiku was not qualified to file the petition challenging his election, ruling that Atiku is qualified to filed the petition.
- Tribunal dismissed Atiku's application accusing Vice President Yemi Osinbajo of inducing voters with the TraderMoni scheme, ruling that it does not have jurisdiction over the matter.
- Tribunal strike out APC's argument that Atiku was not qualified to contest the presidential election because he is allegedly not a Nigerian by birth. * It ruled that its power does not include determining the qualification of a petitioner in an election dispute, but to determine whether a person elected to the office of the president was validly elected and not to query the qualification of the petitioners to have contested the election, whose outcome was being queried.
Summary of the rulings so far
INEC filed three motions against Atiku's petition; one of the motions was dismissed while two partially succeeded leading to the striking out of some paragraphs in the petitioners’ petition and their response to INEC’s reply to the petition.
- President Buhari filed two motions against Atiku's petition; two of the motions partially succeeded leading to the striking out of some paragraphs in the petitioner's response to the president’s reply to the petition.
- The last two motions were filed by APC.

Politics › Re: Xenophobia: Ekweremadu Tells FG To Suspend Diplomatic Ties With South Africa by bigtt76(f): 10:30pm On Sep 03, 2019 |
Is that how they suspend diplomatic relationship? Lack sense... suspend diplomatic rations hip and endanger thousands of Nigerians still in South Africa? CGMedia: Senator Ike Ekweremadu has condemned the attack on Nigerians in South Africa, calling on the federal government to cut ties with the South African government, Igbere TV reports.
Igbere TV had previously reported that properties worth millions of naira, belonging to Nigerians in South Africa, were set ablaze with many others looted by South Africans.
President of the Nigeria Union in South Africa, Comrade Adetola Olubajo, said the attacks began on Sunday morning in Jeppestown area of Johannesburg.
Mr Olubajo said in a statement that the mob “looted several shops owned by foreign nationals”, adding that “the police later dispersed the mob and made some arrest.”
Reacting in a statement sighted by Igbere on his Facebook page, the former Deputy Senate President described the attack as barbaric and an act of ingratitude on the part of South Africans.
He berated the South African government for not taking a decisive step to end the attacks, which he said has led to loss of lives and properties of fellow Africans, especially Nigerians.
He said the actions of the South Africans defies the African brotherhood, while recalling the support Nigeria rendered the country during the apartheid era and independence struggle.
He, therefore, called on the African Union (AU) to immediately sanction South Africa, while calling on the federal government to cut diplomatic ties with the country until the safety of Nigerians were guaranteed.
Full Statement,
“I find the incessant xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African nationals in South Africa very un-African, barbaric, and unparalleled acts of ingratitude. It is quite disturbing that the Government of South Africa has not taken decisive steps to end these attacks, which have led to wanton loss of lives and properties of fellow Africans, especially Nigerians.
“The attacks defy and desecrate everything African brotherhood stands for, especially for a country that gained freedom with the support, sweat, and sacrifice of fellow African nations among which Nigeria clearly stands out. The attacks have reached scary and desperate degrees and call for desperate actions on the part of Nigeria, other African nations, and the African Union.
“It will therefore not be out of place for the Federal Government to suspend diplomatic relations with SA until full assurance of safety of Nigerians and their properties in South African are secured, adequate compensation paid for the damages, and the perpetrators also brought to book.
“The African Union mist eise up to the occasion now. The AU could be reduced to an empty shell if law abiding African nationals cannot find peace and safety in a fellow African nation like South African, but are instead savaged by people who should be their brother’s keeper.
“The AU should therefore summon an emergency session to sanction South Africa; and a suspend from the Union for unprovoked acts of hostilities against fellow Africans whose countries fought for the freedom they enjoy today will not be out of place.”

Sad though but I see no issue here, everyone wants to score. If Salah worked for the ball and he adjudged himself to be well suited to score why not? What if he didn't see Mane to be well placed? If Mane had the ball and passed on to Salah expecting a return pass for him to score and Salah decided to spurn that arrangement and make go, then I see an issue. Each is working to better their brand but left to the coach to decide his strategy. OTayobami: That salah na very stupid fellow, na all those kyn players dey make person dey get problem with coach, he always thinks the ball gets to him magically, he nor dey reason say na people like them firmino dey sacrifice their goal scoring chances just to pass to him when he's open to score..

Not wrong really but sends bad signals out that these government officials don't meet locally or when they meet locally its never publicized. naptu2: Not really.
There are a lot of Nigerians at TICAD7.
1) Some of them are there as part of the official Nigerian delegation (Buhari and his crew).
2) Some are there as part of delegations of pan-African organisations (eg. Adesina is the head of the African Development Bank).
3) Some are there as part of United Nations delegations.
4) Some are there as part of NGO delegations (e.g. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala).
5) Some are there in their capacity as African businessmen (e.g. Tony Elumelu)
6) And some are there to explore investment opportunities for their states (e.g. Samuel Ortom).
I'm quite curious about the first picture because the overseas manager of Japan's Open Sesame Project is in it and Benue is one of the biggest producers of sesame seed (beniseed) in Nigeria.
Now, since all these people are in Japan, there's absolutely nothing wrong if they take a few minutes to meet and discuss things that are important to them. |

Yes so the parents of that child must file for US citizenship through their embassy before child clocks 18 years old. Likewise for non-citizens in the US, they must stay at least 6 weeks before they can file for child's citizenship. Mynd44: Basicaly, a child born to American parents in Nigeria is stateless.
Since they don't have US citizenship yet and Nigeria does not give automatic citizenship to people born in Nigeria and their parents or grandparents are not Nigerians |
