If the medical issue was e.g. cervical cancer, PID etc and the BF really loved her that much, couldn't he have agreed with her that they would adopt or use surrogate mum?

If the medical issue was abortion complications or HIV/AIDS and she DELIBERATELY withheld the info until last minute, many or most men would likely react very drastically.

But I still think if the man truly loved her, he'd think carefully about the possible emotional/mental impact of ending the engagement abruptly.

Good thing you had the presence of mind to discipline your maid, some people would have taken advantage of the situation and not looked back.  I know of men who have chased these girls from their gate because of the way they dress or some of the comments they made to them.

This is not some new trend introduced outside into Nigeria.  As long as people are willing to put their girl children to selling on the streets, some of these girls will not see their own value beyond the kobo they make, whatever way they can make it.  Some children are too money-hungry and will willingly sleep with even their parent's friends for what they can give them, without their parents suspecting a thing.

The value system in some places is totally shot.

Asaba – COMMERCIAL flights commenced, yesterday, into the Asaba International Airport.

Addressing newsmen at the airport, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Christopher Ogeah, said: “Overland Airline is going to be the premier operator of this airport at the beginning and I can assure you that other Nigerian indigenous airlines are also going to join them and make this a lucrative route for the airlines.

“I also want to say that we have certification. Like you all know, everything about this airport and aviation has to do with global safety standards and before certification can be given to us, you know the level of work we had done.

“As I speak with you, today (yesterday) we can commence commercial flights into and from this airport. We are also in the process of working with the airline for the flight to commence immediately.”

The former Minister of Aviation, Mrs. Fidelia Njeze, had commended the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, for building the Asaba International Airport while calling on other states in the country to emulate such initiative as the Federal Government would give them the necessary support.

Crumbling economy is relative as compared to educational/professional opportunities in North America, Middle East, Australasia etc. As several posters have already noted, Britain no longer really has much manufacturing industry and is now primarily a financial services and trading economy.

Or even as compared to a job with a blue chip in naija earning armed robber salary  

To each his own. As you rightly pointed out, OP should do the risk/benefit calculus and decide based on his personal circumstances/aspirations. But he should not be single-minded about it as per LSBU and UK is some kind of eldorado.

The issue is what are the odds of a Nigerian immigrant getting a professional job in that crumbling economy with a degree from LSBU as opposed to what he could do by maintaining his current job in Nigeria and investing his nest egg in a business i.e. is cleaning toilet in London with masters' degree worth it?

Yes masters petroleum engineering just started three years ago in London southbank university but the programme is very good as well. I know several Nigerians that graduated from there with masters in petroleum engineering that have gotten good oil and gas jobs in the UK.

@ Poster, I'm a Pet Eng with three years exp in the UK graduated from HW and I must tell you I'm yet to meet one person who graduated from LSU working in the industry, The course is new and as others have told you, UK is a class society. If you don't graduate from Heriot-watt or Imperial in Pet Eng, forget it.

If that what it takes, then he just has to man up, get his engineers to identify those houses blocking drains/natural waterways, demolish them, then compensate the property owners, then build proper drainage and canals. Half of central Paris was demolished in the late 19th century by the French government to create the modern city that we know today.

BTW what happened to the Lagos-Ogun mega-city project? The future of Lagos is in Ogun state, not Lekki corridor and Eko Atlantic etc. Fashola should focus on re-energizing the mega-city and getting the FG to play its role.

If you can afford to pay UK university tuition, why waste your money on a school with poor academic reputation? You might as well go for a top uni with a good academic/professional reputation. Lagos state govt has the right to insist that persons selling cars to the general public should register with the govt. as authorized car dealers and pay appropriate revenue.
However, it is ridiculous if the LASG proposes to enact a law stopping a private individual from selling a vehicle to another private individual or insisting that the individual can only sell through an authorized car dealer. There is no country in the world that prevents an individual from selling his private property as and when he or she so pleases - except Communist regimes. The govt is entitled though to tax the transaction.  

However, if the volume of sales goes beyond occasional and limited individual-to-individual private transactions and becomes a full-fledged commercial enterprise selling vehicles full-time to the general public, then its only fair that the govt. is entitled to tax revenue from that business.

If I can sell my laptop, phone, land or house by private arrangement, why not my car?

I'm having issues with HTC Sync on my HTC Desire HD which I just got brand new. When I hook up the phone to my laptop, the HTC Sync screen on the laptop says 'no device connected'. But on the phone, it says 'Synchronization status - connected'. I am able to sync contacts, music etc though. This happens with both the latest version of HTC sync downloaded from the HTC website and the version that came on the Desire HD's memory card. Not a dealbreaker buts its kinda weird.

BTW, is there an HTC equivalent of the Nokia Ovi or SonyEricsson PC Suite? Yes, I've looked at HTC Sense online but this seems to be primarily a web based interface.

Also, is there an HTC equivalent of 'Notes' on Nokia phones? Its a feature I found particularly useful on my previous Nokia phones.
