Africans have demonstrated more than enough their determination to remain in one phase of societal evolution. Do an inquiry and you'll discover 99.9999% of Nigerians think "tradition" and things having to do with royalty and culture is unique to Africa. Truth is all societies that are advanced today passed through it when they were still backward and didn't know better |
Just go through this thread and you will see that black man is oblivious of the conditions which put him in misery. They see their multiplication of selves as a religious and social DUTY which must be carried out at all costs, even enlisting the help of "god". Every motor-park tout and every one of those horrible prostitutes crowing our roadsides was an "adorable child" when they were born. Keep it up. You've not seen enough yet. I know you see mass unemployment and suffering in the land as a separate issue from your "duty" of having a spouse and children. Indeed, when you have 4 girls, you continue because it is your "right" and "duty" to have a male child too, ditto for those who have 4 boys and their "duty" to have a girl as if you did any more that have se.x to warrant the right. God! People are dumb. Oyibo should never come to our aid; we must lie on our beds exactly the way we made them |
Having lived in that world, I can say this in practical terms, not projections: 1. It's unlikely you would be in a position to earn as much and still be under such a boss. It is in low-level job environments you find such a life. 2. Those saying they would ignore such a person as long as they get bank salary alert have clearly never been in such a situation. You would not live your everyday life being insulted if you earn 850k a month. You would have alternatives. Is this just an idle scenario just being conjectured to while away the time? |
homager:Ear dey pain me. If I have to be as dumb as other Nigerians, let me make this point: Yoruba people are perhaps the rudest, most disrespectful people I know in Nigeria. Of course they have a warped definition of "respect". If we have to talk respect, the Northerner (and that's not an ethnic group) is the most respectful. I'm in the West as I've been most of my life. The respect/lack of respect I see cannot be distilled into tribes |
hotwax:I'm sure Abuja indigenes are the latest accommodating types to other tribes( and I'm sure you can't get the import). All the Nigerian is capable of is seeing human beings as tribes. Backward society and people |
Dollyak:"home training" "yoruba" and all other crap used to claim any superior morality by any black tribe is just evidence of our backwardness as a people. The very values we proudly claim are actually observed in hypocrisy and are the very culprit for our confusion as a people. I'm really getting sick of this Nollywood movie that Yoruba are some kind of respectful people, over and above any other Nigerians. It's a huge joke. I lived in the West my whole life and I would say the opposite is true. Is it calling someone "brother" or "aunty" or "grandma" or "daddy" that's the respect? Did you notice those are English words? TRIBE IS LIKE POLITICAL PARTY GOING ON FOR A VERY LONG TIME. TRIBE IS NOT GENETIC; IT IS NOT INTRINSIC IN THE HUMAN MAKEUP |
hungryboy:Clearly, Freeze has proved that he may have looks, but he also has brains. This Olajumoke thing, I'm so happy about as it crystallises the egregious folly of the Nigerian society and Nigerian minds. Things don't happen by accident for nations. As Freeze alluded to, what a people decide to invest in is what will bear fruits for them, good or bad. There's no surprise to me why Nigeria is a disaster of a country - it is all in order |
Pharaoh9:God! And we're still surprised our country is nowhere to be found? See mumu!!! I'm sure there are very very many like this out there. People who have NO IDEA how countries exist and are run. Govt shd start making executions more common again as a generation of Nigerians have now grown up who have never heard of executions. Time to toughen them up! |
Mr Tonye Barcanista, I know we all use pseudonyms here but I would like to know your twitter handle. I don't know of all your writeups and whether I would agree with your mindset but this one I saw makes me sympathise with you. Nigeria doesn't deserve anyone bothering to write long articles and trying to present facts and figures in the hope of sparking an informed debates and chart progress. Nigeria is a jungle and the people are guided by instincts and emotion, not logic and reason. I always say that from my everyday experiences in Nigeria, there is no surprise to me why we are in such a parlous state. Indeed if we were in a better state given our attitude, then I would be surprised |
They have robbed us blind in this country. The only concern of the average Nigerian is how to get in on the squander party. A car bought new a few years ago is considered scrap and claimed to be malfunctioning by our politician lords. Average Nigerian buys a used car of 20 years and the car performs excellently and he only has a roadside mechanic to maintain the car o. Nigeria is a joke. The richest men who can afford billions to run for office get into office and their toothbrushes must be bought for them for millions by the Nigerian people's purse. They want to build a house for Senate President (how many times since 1999) and he's proud to say he beat it down from 6billion to 1billion. That can build 200 houses for Nigerians that actually need the homes. NIGERIA IS A JOKE, YOU HEAR!!! |
Vanquay:I feel you and I've responded to the guy taking you to task. Check it out |

My brother, I've been around longer than you too. I am often despised and pilloried on Twitter and here where I've garnered a reputation for excoriating that black man and the black race. But if you followed the campaign of Obama in '08, he was asked questions on race a lot and particularly was asked whether he was "black enough". You know he alluded to the kinds of racial discrimination he was still suffering even at that time when he was already a state representative. His non-political wife even went as far as saying he could easily be mistakenly shot for being a black man. Yes, I wasn't told - I watched these interviews. The black race has to wake up and question their attitudes in the world, but the issue the guy is raising is just as valid. I would put the ratio at 95:5 (black man, change your ways for 95, but fell compassion for those doing right but still suffering because of their colour: 5) |
agabusta:Those ppl you mentioned are always susceptible of being bought over by our slavemasters and they usually accept the purchase. It's all about the money and status in this country. Nigeria is not ready to develop |
Laveda:Let me clarify: we're talking about all things being equal. Lemme assure you I know this stuff very well as it has been my life. When I didn't have any money, it was zero girls; when I had money, I could get girls but for some girls who were not that hungry, my tall and handsome guys not only had more and better girls, they even snatched mine also (no girlfriends here, we were players). As I advanced in knowledge though, I came to realise that indeed, there was a lot more to attractiveness than height. If you gym and have a good physique as a result, that's a plus; also the dressing and personality. BUT make no mistake: 1. All things being equal with another guy who is tall, girls would prefer that person. 2. For a few highly picky girls, no substitute for the tall height of their preference; they are quality enough to have that large pool to pick from |
Laveda:Try being a short GUY and you'll understand how wicked life can be: a "crime" you didn't commit o. Short girls have no issue; some men actually like them. BUT I don't know any girl that seeks out a short guy. We're not even defining terms here. Many guys like me aren't short - we're just average, YET girls diss us for actually TALL people (people in the 80th 90th percentile of height). Some girls WILL NOT compromise at all: the man has to be at least 5'11" or 6 feet for him to earn second-stage of consideration. So you see, 90% of girls are looking out for 10% of the men and they tell the rest they don't have any interest in men sef. To me o, for purpose of children, a short man (5'7" or less) should not have a child with a short woman. I am slightly above that height and I must have only a partner of maximum one inch shorter. I don't want a possible son to suffer the hell I went through |
It was in 1993 I first made an entry in my journal on this issue. There was a fuel scarcity and I observed with dismay the profiteering going on amongst "poor suffering masses". I still have the journal where I wrote it. I was a university student then experiencing the real world for the first time. I'm very well known on Twitter and nairaland here of saying: "The problem with Nigeria is the Nigerian people themselves, a few of whom are in government (for just a while)". No one has ever taken me on successfully on this charge. The most influential people in Nigeria (whom I've contacted on a project to better country) simple avoid me and when my wahala too much, they block me (latest being Ben Bruce as his hypocrisy started to become clearer). My other quote: "Nigeria is a joke!" simple! |
kessgreen:It is you who should leave Nollywood or take time out from your daily search for money and watch documentaries and read how this is done in better countries. This is not Dasukigate or spurious election tribunals. This is a trial for a man's life and this is the Supreme Court, not a Magistrates. There are convicts in American death row today who have been there before 2006 and America has a healthy and quick judicial system |
I'm amazed most Nigerians don't understand how cut-off points work and how CGPA is worked out at university. It is remarkable and symptomatic of how clueless we are as a people. Let me shock you: it is theoretically possible for not a single person to be admitted who scored 180. Why? I won't tell you. It's time people started paying me for all my insight. I need money |
Most of Nigeria's richest men, indeed rich men, made their money at the expense of the wellbeing of Nigerians. What do we do? We worship them, thank them and pray that "baba God" will make us do same too. Tell me one that isn't a first-line leech on Nigeria or a second-line leech |
MeloGist:The preoccupation and indeed obsession of Muslims is to find an equivalent fault in Christians and that actually makes them feel better. Christians are the ones who didn't claim ownership of dress morality. Christians are the ones who wear bikini while Muslims pillory them. By the way, Christianity senior Islam by almost 700 years. Learn to stop competing with your seniors. Everyday I thank God I was born Christian and that's why I can now become non-religious. Had I been born Muslim, there would be no option |
How many times will I say it: nigeria is a jungle, appropriately situated in Africa. We lack basic standard of conduct in every sphere of life although everyone has armed themselves with MSc PhD, we're still closer to chimps than to the highest human specimen |
9jatriot:I have tackled Ben Bruce on this issue on Twitter and subsequently been blocked. I believe the opposite: Nigerians indeed are criminals by default. Unless a Nigerian makes a conscious effort to be a better person, our society teaches you to approach life in a selfish, dishonest manner, always looking out to make "your own" out of any situation and blaming those who think about the full picture as "over-sabi". There's this thing Nigerians say "if somebody own no spoil, another person own no go better". In English, it is described as a zero-sum mentality. There's no better way to describe our defeatist philosophy of life |

DeLaRue:My dear, in Nigeria, what are your chances in life if you're not a "yes man" to some degree? You want to end up like me, blowing big grammar on Nairaland, completely irrelevant and ignored in the scheme of things because you're an upright and principled man? Have you began a career? Worshipping superiors is the lifeblood of civil service and government positions, yet my career was in the private sector with a standard multinational and yet they still destroyed me for not fitting the mould. Nigeria is Nigeria. The problem with Nigeria is the Nigerian people and their chosen way of life |
MissingBudget:It's a fact: you're a fool. The dictionary has a meaning for "fool" and the meaning is not "insult". Check it out |
A body that elects the character called Ayo Oritsejafor cannot claim to have any morality or credibility anyway. Yes, I'm a South South Southerner. Mumu country. Apes riding cars and flying private jets. I'm suffocating of hatred for Nigerian people |
Do read the second rather than the 1st. It's a modification but I didn't find a way to delete the first |
omojeesu:See another mumu so proud of his complete brainwash by another culture's empire of control called Christianity. The Oyibo that brought it here to control you have now moved on while you now go to their countries to "preach the word" to them, yet you still don't get the message. All your validation of your religious doctrines is like EFCC going to Dasuki's house and dutifully asking him if he shared $2.1b. Upon getting a "no" for an answer, they turn back and tell the world "No, Dasuki didn't share $2.1b. How dumb would that be? Jesus is alive abi? He physically died and resurrected and ascended physically to heaven? Do you know 1961 years later, humans ascended physically upwards and didn't see any Heaven? Instead they saw the vast emptiness of space. Indeed if they didn't wear a special suit when they were outside in space, they would explode from pressure withing their bodies and suffocation from no air to breathe. Whose accounts did we learn of the magical feats of Jesus? From his very own supporters and minions (abi no be so?). Has there ever been any book written by a critic of Jesus from that time that survived to this era? Maybe, just maybe Jesus was a nothing during his time to the real world and hence didn't attract attention enough for critics to write disputing claims on him. But of course you're not concerned about all that. The bible has condemned you for life to source all your reason and evidence from the same bible. You can see you're on a life sentence. All the same for the Muslims and their Koran. Your both on the same team of death and destruction. What you criticise ISIS et al for today was what Christians did with official sanction of the State in times gone by. "For the believer, evidence is irrelevant. For the scientist or skeptic trying to talk to a believer, discussion is futile." - Patrick Snyder |

davidif:My DEAR, it IS the division between church and state that is in play. You just don't get it because, like virtually all Nigerians, you've been brainwashed your whole life from birth (no abuse intended, just fact). The separation of church and state makes it possible for authorities to make rules to prevent religion from destroying the state as - if left alone - that is the very speciality and expertise of religion. You think oyibo just woke up one day and said "separate church and state"? Read history of the whole world and it might give you a rebirth - not the one Christian religion has deceived the world about |
millionaireman:Have you ever seen a map of Nigeria? I make very big maps; come and patronise me |
missbronze:Kai! Who paid bride price on whom? In Africa, women continue to insist on being property; they just take out time to be one to a very successful man. All these Western terms of "cheating" doesn't apply in Africa. Will all this issue come up if Tubaba is a poor ugly guy? How many girls him don do sef? My guy who has no fame and just manage to get one car working his ass off as a boring engineer is having 3 different girls a day before retiring to his wife and he's had over 100 girls in less than 10 years. I senior Tuface but I no get single girl as I'm poor and not handsome. You think girls are blind? Marriage is overrated and hypocritical. Girls don't give a hoot if you're married. They just need a hot guy to do them |
