stop picking the problems; it's like chasing shadows. the problem with Nigeria is NIGERIANS themselves and that's why everything in Nigeria is an eyesore and almost always unbelievable to any right thinking observer.

"NIGERIANS" are the problem with Nigeria

It will, but don't forget that our destiny is not tied with Nigerian government or the country but fully to the Almighty God. Continue to pray without ceasing.
Dont be silly.

You expect God to come down from heaven to stop you from destroying your own country?

The problem with Nigeria is NIGERIANS. Every Nigerian forgets about the country's problems when they are in positions but as soon as they are out of office, they remember that the country is in a bad shape.

Tell your brother to stop collecting bribes; tell your brother to stop driving on the wrong side of the road; tell your friends to stop stealing what does not belong to them; tell your parents to return looted government properties/funds; tell yourself you'll never do anything to undermine Nigeria again

I can go on and on

y 'all are right about cnn and the news but i think they have no choice but to eventually change especially with the strides nigeria is making, saw it on telly last week zenith bank has just taken over sole sponsorship of inside africa and i honestly believe thats just the beginning, im sure other companies like glo and other nigerian companies will follow in zeniths example
Zenith should have invested that money in the Nigerian media industry to make them more viable and heard. If we invest more at home and stop stealing to ship abroad, we will be better off. Too much of our resources get flown abroad and that's a great problem which we are yet to resolve.

The media should do more to expose the ills in foreign lands and instil pride in everything Nigerian. Maybe then we'll have people willing to buy Nigerian and production will recieve a boost. With that boost, quality of the products will also be enhanced etc.

I saw this yesterday on the news and my wife was sick for it.

I'm sure there will be some black people quick to justify the action or explain it away. I still believe that the black man is striving too hard to be accepted by the white man while the white man MOSTLY relaxes and has a laugh at the effort of some learned black people to get accepted as equals.

These students did it as a protest- because black people were being allowed into a hall of residence. Al this happening in AFRICA!!!

In Europe, what you hear is that if you dont like something as a black man, you should get out and return to Africa. Nobody is saying same to white south Africans who control the SA economy.

Reading the posts on this thread, its any one's guess what three shallow minded people can produce.
To argue how many boats are leaving Cuba is to argue why Indians hide in luggage compartments to "flee" to the UK, or why most Mexicans would risk limbs to emigrate to the US. The Cuban boat people was over hyped for political reasons and we all know it. There are close to 12million Mexicans in the US and Mexico is not a communist country. The fact is the US has the largest economy in the world and so tend to attract immigrants.

The laughable thing about the posts on this thread is that most of the people bashing this boat people are themselves "plane people" from Nigeria. Was 4play/I-man fleeing from communist Nigeria? Faced with an invassion Castro did for Cuba what any patriotic leader would do for his country. He will forever remain a hero to most people around the world.

father ab:
1. You do not understand that it is Obama's father that is an African not his mother. The blood that flows in a person is that of the father not the mother. That is why blood test confirms the fatherhood of a child. Go, ask your family doctor.
2. You seem to possess a mindframe that looks down on your own country just because of it's history of corruption. The first thing young men like you should change is not their country but their mindset. With that the repairing Nigeria is half done. Afterall in every term except development, Nigeria surpasses every African country.
I dont want to talk about the blood test again cos some people already enlightened you (hopefully) about that. However, I will be happy if you can tell me that you will call a child white if his/her mother is black and the father is white.

You seem to suddenly know what my mind is with regards to my own country. Perhaps if you change your mindset, you'll better appreciate that other people might reason differently from the way you reason. You do seem to assume a lot of things and this suggests to me that you're narrow-minded: I may be wrong but I strongly believe that for now

Simply incredible.

When will Nigeria and Nigerians wake up from their slumber and realise that it is better to stop these idiots and let the WHOLE nation progress than to think only of personal aggrandisement? The reason such a man is able to perpetuate such nonsense is the fact that those who should team up to stop the nonsense are hoping to reap something from that nonsense.

Giving me a spell check please

In Nigeria especially, about 50% of children in any giving home do not belong to the "man" of the house. IF DNA tests were to be carried out on all children in Nigeria, it would be a national shocker to see what the results would be.

Let us just say that too much keeping of "night vigils" could be detrimental to most marriages.

That's the point. You don't HEAR of uch things in Nigeira, while smaller things in the US get magnified exponentially.
When those 7 (?) students were slaughteredby cultists in OAU, did it appear on CNN?

As for 'any student going on a killing spree', people have killed for trivial reasons. A cult war started in my uni in 2002 because two students were arguing over a copy of Tupac's 'all Eyez on Me' cd. One guy shot the other, fighting started and before the dust settled 6 people were dead.
Tell that to the mother of the final year medical student in my Uni who was decapitated while writing his final exams.
tell that to my old friend Yomi who was shot 7 times in town while he was driving. You can't though. he's dead.

Didn't hear of that one, didja?
You already said it all: they are cultists killing themselves, not just jumping into a classroom for no reason and shooting everyone in sight

You dont get shot 7 times while driving except you've involved yourself one way or the other with the shooters, either in cultism or crime.

Not to worry, we will soon catch up. Is it not the same America they are all raised? undecided Let us finish with 419 and credit card frauds first! Or Drug smuggling! kiss

Judging by the size and complexity of America, you should be pleased that this does not happen in every school every 3 seconds. By comparing the size of Nigeria to that of America--you are doing both some major injustice!

Bottom line, every society has its problems. We just have to find ways of coping that's all. Crime is everywhere. I repeat, due to the size and complexity of the US, I am so glad things are just as they are--I am amazed that things have not gotten way out of hand, that we do not have mini gestapos and militants all over US cities or drive by shootings on every street corner here. I can only thank them for the job they do in keepin' the country sanely together. Other places like Nigeria would have evaporated--no thanks to any special mechanisms in place, but for the special grace of God!

Think about it! kiss
We wont catch up with them in killing stupidly. Nigerians are too scared of dying to kill and kill themselves.

I do believe that drug smuggling is not Nigeria's problem. Americans and Europeans should control their drug problems. If a Nigerian smuggles drugs into US/Europe, good luck to him/her but if he/she gets caught, he should be ready for the jail term. BUT Nigeria should stop wasting her resources in chasing drug smugglers.

The drug smugglers can be of benefit to the Nation if they succeed and they bring the money back home to invest rather than squander.

If you reverse the roles, America/Europe would never care about drug smuggling. They'd rather say that Africans are bad for such drug addiction levels

Even the cultists probably have their own rival targets: not just to go into a lecture theatre and start a shooting spree.

Your choice, my friend. in your bid to contest my statement, kindly interview people who studied in the following universities: AAU, Uniben, UNICAL. Perhaps in your school the local confraternities engaged in such pacifist activities like tug-of-wars and karaoke contests, but in so many other schools in Nigeria their rivalries often led to fatal confrontations.
remember what happened in OAU some years back?

Anyone who was in uniben between 1997 - 2002 knows what i'm talking about.

Now, you're insinuating that i've posted false info in this forum before. if you're really as educated as you claim, you'll know that the burden of proof is on the accuser. Kindly provide evidence to show i've lied here before, or remain damned as a liar.
We seem to be talking about different periods and places in Nigeria here. I finished my first degree in 1989. I dont even know what AAU means huh

The burden of proof is on you to provide evidence for your assertion. It is not for me to provide evidence but for you who made to assertion to provide some form of evidence. It's the norm worldwide when people are unconvinced of any assertion

A lot of people like driving one-way, against traffic. This must be the will of so many people. Government shouldnt stop it!
Right?
Driving up a one-way traffic causes disruption and incovenience to other road users: how does spraying cause others any harm/hurt?

texazzpete:
Yup! vandalising NEPA cables doesn't hurt anyone. That should be decriminalised abi?
Corrupt legislators steal money, denying Nigerians the benefit of such funds. Crime. Abused and defaced Naira needs to be destroyed and reprinted. this costs money, which could be used to feed the common man. Crime also.
So why the distinction?
See the answer above.
That is vandalism and completely different from just spraying money. I am sure there is more defacement of the naira in markets than what goes on at those 'owambe' parties. Whay has the government not legislated against spening cash in markets and mamaput spots?

texazzpete:
Honestly, can you tell me you haven't seen weddings and parties where the guests stamp and tread on sprayed money all in the name of dancing?
Is soaking brand new naira notes in the sweat from someone's forehead a sure way to preserve the integrity of the Naira notes?

True, there are more serious crimes in Nigeria that need legislation, but to toss this one away as an unworthy idea is plain silly.
It is a silly idea to spend legislative time on this when it will have little or no economic impact on the people of Nigeria. Perhaps, if such legislative time was spent in policing the legislature to stop them from corrupt ways in forms of bribes (lobbying), Nigeria would have seen plenty of progress economically

As much as I will not spray because I consider it a wasteful and unecessary show-off, I do agree with KSA that the Government should not be legislating on how people decide to spend their money. This will only lead to suppression of the will of people as it appears a lot of people really like the idea of spraying money at parties.

Spraying money does not hurt anyone as much as legislators corruptly enriching themselves and sending the money to European banks rather than keeping the money within the system to generate investements.

Government needs to get it's priorities right. How exactly does money spraying affect the life of the common man?

It is going to be a part of this society for a long time. You guys berrrrrer brace yourselves. I have prepared maself for those eventualities.
The kids who were brought up as you humoruously denigrated above have NEVER been reported to be involved in any such killing. They are not the angry ones. The angry ones who react to society are the ones who have been brought up in the same system you seem to extol.

Are you really a Nigerian?

Because 90% of people who went to public unis in Nigeria can tell you tales of people getting shot in exam halls, in front of school gates, bukateria and even in Church, all in the name of cult war.

I spent 6 years in a Nigerian university (thanks to Strike and Obasanjo) and i KNOW the death toll from all the cult-related clashes would definitely exceed 50.

Hell, even lecturers weren't spared the killing either.
I did my first degree in Nigeria and I cant recount any account of a student getting shot on campus. The only shooting incident was done by the police outsde the gate and it was during a demonstration. Maybe during your time, cultists were on rampage but even 50 deaths in 6years does not compare to what goes on in America.

BTW, I am ready to contest your 50 deaths accounts going by some of the things you have written on this forum.
