Crime / Re: Indian Man's Reason For Killing A Policeman Goes Viral, Sparks Online Debate by Blonchilli(m): 12:14pm On Jul 08, 2018
I'm not worried about the cop that was killed. If this has gone viral here on Nigeria from quora what about India. This guy might have put his friends in danger and they could be victims of retaliation. He gave the location, names and events happening at the time of the murder. It won't be long before security agents fish his friends out and hurt them

It should cost govt nothing to replicate even better facilities for govt universities. Especially state govt that usually have singular universities.
By the way these hostels above qualify to be called HOTELS. The setting of that amethyst hall is dope, the aesthetics of that Aisha hall is mad, the lightening of that covenant hall is crazy. See how baze too is sparkling They are indeed cool. And with this I see no reason why people are rushing to Benin Republic or Ghana to study..
I observed people that rush to to Benin Republic and Ghana to study just do it so they can brag that I schooled outside the country. Some of these university are even more expensive than Ghanaian university

Reminds me of a friend who relocated to the US with his wife and faced financial difficulties in the early years. During those periods, the well to do in-laws couldn't help even at the point of ejection from rented home. He was made to apologise for asking for help with funds because the wife's sister and husband who were much older were fuming. Rather, he was advised to go back to Nigeria leaving his wife who gets no support from them and toddler so he can send them money on regular basis.

Obvious to him that the in-laws didn't want to help, and with the constant reminder of asking him to go back to Nigeria, he decided to relocate to another state where they could afford a living. He revoked all ties with the in-laws, no visit, no contact. Anytime they visit their sister(his wife) he leaves the home to avoid them.

Now they are fuming that he doesn't and haven't related with them for years and every effort to relate with him now that things are going on very well for him have yielded nothing.

Lesson, Some in-laws are better kept at arm's length.

Some in-laws are devilish. Just want to see you fail because you had what they wanted but not all. Some will gladly help because if you are good, their daughter and grandkids will be good too

Thanks. I worry about the mentality of people like this and the over 50 persons that liked his post.
How can one enter marriage with this attitude that it's all politics? You against your in-laws?
For what? To massage your fragile ego.

May God help our daughters
God bless you with all my heart. Politics in the family? Whoever takes this advice is shooting himself in the head. I know a young man who studied in an expensive private university, his parents could not afford it but his uncle did, why? Because his dad supported him when he was young. When the chips are down it's this same family that got your back. Then you want to chase them out because of small change you paid for bride price. Even if it's 10 million one paid it's not enough to take away everything she shared with her family. I won't be comfortable if I see my wife relations are not coming to visit or spend a night or two occasionally. When you draw the line against the in-laws they too will draw the line and it's the children that will suffer from the battle

All these points do not work for everyone. Just treat them nice and avoid being too close. Respect their authority over their daughter and also subtly let them know it's your house. Any man who really wants a happy home will throw that option of never allow them in the home. If you don't want madam to put the anger on you because like it or hate it she has lived with her family all her life and they share a special bond. You walked into her life few months or years back and want to stop her family from being with their daughter or sister? Who are you?

Literature / Re: List Your Top Five Greatest Books by Blonchilli(m): 11:04am On Jul 04, 2018
In no particular order
1) Purple Habiscus by Chimmamanda Adichie (Maybe because I fell in love with the writing technique and the fact that the story unfolds through the eyes of Kambili, a name I've vowed to name my daughter. Who wouldn't love kambili after reading the novel)
2)Lord of the rings trilogy (I've never seen a book like this. It paints a picture in your mind that lasts forever, million miles better than the movie. That speaks a lot for the novel)
3) There was a country by Chinua Achebe (I wept for Nigeria and the igbo. There really was a country cry )
4) The Lord of the Flies by William Golding ( just tells you that we are all animals)
5) Any Robert Greene book ( After that man dies they should clone his brain or something. The books also should be rated 21 or something. Not for the faint of heart)

Marriage itself is a gamble. I think you make sense. Liking the scenario to a mother who gives birth to a child. Now that mother never had a child to love, so she must watch the child grow and learn to love him/her as changes appear in the child, by character and appearance. If we use the method we use in raising a child and loving him/her I don't think there would be issues of divorce or misunderstanding because you will come to realize that people change .
I also believe the heart can love more than a woman at a time because love is moved by emotion and what we want not necessarily what we need

LaudableXX:

What is the population of women in Nigeria that you have met, that led you to make such sweeping illogical conclusions? Guy, you do not know what you are saying. shocked I have worked with UN-funded programmes for a variety of agencies, and I can tell you that Nigerian women are some of the most hard-working people, you can ever see. Women are said to make up about 49.34 % of the current 180 million population of Nigeria in 2016, according to the World Bank. So which dirty research or study did you conduct, to discover that the lazy ones are more than the hardworking ones? When, where and how did you arrive at this infantile conclusion?

Those you claim have shops set up for them by men or sugar daddies are very much in the minority in the urban centres. undecided How many men, are barely coping and managing to put body and soul together, that they would splurge out cash to set up shops, for all the women they know? The average Naija man would most likely date 6 or 7 women over a period of 5 years or more, so how many shops is he going to open for each one?

Most women I know, took small loans from their cooperative societies, or women's associations to set up their shops, while others saved their little funds over a period of time from their trading activities, in order to be able to rent a shop. sad So stop feeling embittered and envious of their successes.

Even the uneducated ones in the villages go to the farms to cultivate agricultural products, and also trade in open markets to sell various commodities. sad Please stop using your miniscule schoolboy experience to judge majority of hardworking Naija women who struggle to put food on their tables, each day.

Maybe you come from a community where women laze away, doing nothing. It is not the same thing, in the remaining 774 local government areas, in Nigeria. You need to step out a bit more, and educate yourself.
I didn't say women are not hardworking. Maybe you need to read through again before jumping into conclusions. Thanks

Only God knows the circles in which you move. undecided An average Naija girl doesn't want to work??! shocked So all those ones we see running their own shops, catering outfits, working in banks, insurance companies, pharmacies, hospitals, teaching in schools, sewing new clothes or designs for their clients etc....are what? Ghosts? shocked Or aliens?
Yes they do and it has nothing to do with circles. The girls you see running around G-boys, the ones you see jumping from one guy to the other and taxing them for bills, the one we see who after marriage sits at home and expects the husband to pay their bills. Maybe the word average was not proper but a large number of women today do not want to work. And by the way over 60 percent of the shops these women run are paid by their husbands, boyfriends, sugar daddies, runs or they just sell provisions and sit idle in the shop gisting. I'm not generalizing, but that's what we see daily. I have sisters and a mother who do not depend on a man and their husbands for their livelihood. So it's not about hearsay or circles, they are still hardworking women but the lazy ones are more than the strong ones

Thanks for the feedback

It's not clear whether you read through my first post or what you are actually proposing.

I posted that after watching a TV programme showing facilities in some foreign countries where they keep young people from no families.

These young people didn't bring themselves into the world.

They were born by people who felt they had a right to please themselves without considering the consequences of their actions.

By the way, most of the young people I saw on the TV programme were violent and some even suicidal. And it follows: they had no family to learn love and care from, so they naturally HATE themselves and society at large.

As I noted in the first post, personal responsibility and self discipline are key. We will build a better society when we weigh our actions and the impact they could have on other people.

That's one of the good things about platforms like this. We can have fruitful conversations and learn more on how to make better choices.

Thanks again
Like KanwuliaExtra said, the best thing to do is to start a NGO to create awareness and educate teens on the harm from a non religious perspective . if you are really serious about this NGO then I'm in too. Never underestimate the power of a ripple effect. We can put our ideas together, except KanwuliaExtra though, she has bills to pay cheesy
