Nigerians have always been calling every election year critical right from 1999 through to 2011. We have always seen that the war and violence being envisaged had only been some people's imagination with the exception of 2011. I think 2015 will not be a different election year from the past ones, once the ruling cabal is ready to rub the palms of the political gladiators and they in turn too settle their foot soldiers, it will be business as usual. All those making noise about the eligibility of GEJ are just using this opportunity to position themselves for the largesse that will soon be released. Since when have we had politicians that keep to their words, we have also had ignorant voters, so Nigeria will continue to move in circles. |
Laalamed: Prophesy!a political leader in nigeria would die soon.he would be flown abroad for treatment instead of treatment at home.his corpse would be brought back to country.A member of an assembly, right? |
So good you finally came together. I had same experience too, meet the lady in 1999, we became very good friends and I wooed her, she said NO, giving some valid concerns and excuses. We dragged this till we both left school but I kept the contact. After 8 years of continuous friendship we got married! Base point for as many as would be reading this, when you bond so well at friendship level with the opposite sex and you both are not in serious relationships, it could take some time but surely, you will crawl into each other embrace. |
Oh NOI...nearly became the world bank president...but nearly never kills a bird! |
@ all, When will the winner be announced today, can't wait to get this behind. |
Technically with competence - NOI wins. Politically - Kim and US wins! |
Too bad I saw this thread late but better late than never. My point is going to be different, how are you sure the story is not the other way round. Might be that your sister is the one actually pulling all the strings to break you guys up. If this story is true, then bring the two of them, your sister and your man, in the presence of some elders may be your parents and break the coconut there. Ensure that you did not pre inform any of them about your plans. Sit back during the discussion, take a pen and paper and document your observations of their responses. You should know the who that is not saying the whole truth. |
This is to show the extent that our sense of reasoning have been darkened by the clot of religion. Even when they are sucking Nigeria dry through corruption, they still believe that God is on their side. I wonder why they go to toilet when they are pressed instead of asking God to make the poo disappear from their bowels. God helps/support people who are competent, hard working and focussed. |
I have always said this, in matters of religion and violence, religion is like water, it takes the shape of whoever carries it. We have seen people of diverse religion melting out cruelty to their fellow human beings. There is presently a man who calls himself a pastor who is threatening to deal with me after accepting that he encroached on my parcel of land because I have not made my perimeter fence to protect his own property. There is a story of a fulani man who cut off a man's hand in Oyo state because the poor farmer refused to drop his yams for the fulani's cattle to graze on. I think the BH members first had inborn tendencies to be violent before hiding under religion to unduly justify their dastardly acts. My firm belief is that if we are to win the war against these terrorists, true adherents of Islam should first publicly disown them and which the government can then face them squarely with the confidence that they are not dealing with a religious set but a terrorist organisation. |
manny4life: Brother, please if you have NO CLUE about what to say, please STOP. It doesn't reflect any good on you. What is unsubstantiated in what I said? In the budget submitted to NASS, did you see 1 Billion food? Everyone who was aware when the budget came out in either Oct/Dec, sometime around that time saw the line item (N993million for presidency food), a week later, according to footnotes, the line item was removed and readjusted, and here you are asking me to provide claim. If Eko-ile saw it, tons of people saw it, I saw it, we all saw it, and finally it was removed due to uproar from public, and it was readjusted, you want me to provide claim to you... Please go front. That's what you folks do on nairaland, to simply defend your point you will result cheap abuse. I will however not dwell on this with you. You were not even sure of weather the food allowance was removed or reduced, simply provide the budget as amended I will go through it and come back here to say to acknowledge that you are right if that is the case. Meanwhile see a link showing what was amended in the budget. www.punchng.com/viewpoint/overview-of-budget-2012/ |
manny4life: Look at question, how can I provide a link or document showing something is removed? You made an unsubstantiated claim and you ask me to prove it is wrong? how can I counter a claim that is not backed up facts? You should have already cross checked the facts before making your post. To the best of my knowledge, I know a small fraction of the first budget was removed as the 25% basic salary cut, about 800billion was added for subsidy and the benchmark for crude oil was adjusted upward. I am using a phone to answer you, I would have gladly provided you links. |
manny4life: As of the recent budget, that 1 billion naira food was reversed or should I say removed. When and where was the Aso Rock budget removed or reduced? I will love to see a document or link to prove this. |
These Malawians should keep quiet. Are they saying a 78year old man cannot die? What did they even do to prevent the inevitable from happening on the case of the late leader? |
Who should be blamed for this almajiri system? The government, religious leaders or parents who brought forth children they are unable to cater for? |
Tropilo: @bodejohn: i sincerely sympathize with u on ur dad's case. D police in Nigeria are a rare speci of select demons. U hv also given very good reasons for ur pessimism. Thumbs up! But, pls look on d bright side (there are a lot).@ Tropilo, thanks! I made the post using my phone and I could have gone on and on and on. I have had opportunities to visit saner climes and when i compare them to Nigeria, i am always at a loss. But i can also quickly jump to the defense of my country (call it patriotism) in the case that a foreigner tries to denigrate her. But the most disturbing thing about this country is that the ray of light that one would except to see as a sign that this dark tunnel has an end is fast disappearing. I am forced to always ask myself, how will the change that we truly yearn for come? |
The OP asked a very good question but I see that only a few have answered him. Why are Nigerians so pessimistic about their country? I will answer this with my own personal story and you will easily see why we are. I moved into what can be likened to house some few months about 20months to be precise with 3 different loan repayments running on my neck. Within these months I have been paying N800 per month for day and night guards because I have not for once seen a police patrol vehicle in my community, I have contributed about N15000 for opening of layout roads and maintenance of the road because the LG care less, I have paid close to N70000 for erection of electricity poles and I have not had power for a week (I mean like 2hrs each day for 7 straight days) in the last 3months because the transformer I am connected to is very far and overloaded, the fuses break immediately it is replaced. All these did not even bother me until one day about 5 or 6months back, men of the Nigerian police force walked to my dad's office and arrested him for printing police ID cards without him owning a printing machine. I called a lawyer but he said he will not leave his office without collecting N3000. I have to settle the police officers with like N2000 for the release of my dad. As I type this I can still remember the shock in my dad's eye as I made payment for his "bail" he was never recalled from the station or asked to report afterwards. I buy N1500 petrol to run my generator for 2hrs only during weekdays and my dear PHCN still brings me utility bill every month for services never rendered. Before you ask me, I pay my taxes that are quite outrageous and I can put a copy of my tax clearances here as a prove. If you are in my shoes with all I have written here won't you be a pessimist? |
GEJ makes a lot of sense when he keeps quiet! |
@OP, Good advise you have been given, I never even thought there could be some set of advise like the ones up there on NL. And thank God all those who will ask you to only pray about it are already in church by now. While I am not saying you shouldn't go spiritual about, I think it is more of how you want your life and marriage to be. I also do not have anything about single mothers, but I like to point two things out to you. 1. You should be somewhat happy that she opened up to you about her status, I mean the boy. Most single mothers will hide that baby from you. So I am tempted to say she is honest. But you really have to investigate the circumstances that lead to her first break up, not because you do not trust her but a stitch in time saves nine. 2. The one I will never want you to down play is the family factor. Your family can make your life and marriage miserable if you go against their wish especially when they are united against your choice of partner. You will only get to know the influence of your family over you when you drag these type of things with them. God help you. |
I usually like to read diverse opinions on issues like this before commenting. This is not because I do not have a position to take but to expand my own knowledge and study the thinking pattern of the responders. To the topic, I have some questions on my mind; 1. Did the president actually say that the church was not befitting his status as the president of Nigeria? If I can ask again, what does the statues of the president entail? A convoy of cars, AC tight church? All these while millions of Nigerians live below the poverty line? 2. What did the Anglican communion do about the state of the church that they are now willing to fight about when it wasn't befitting for the status of the president? To the best of my knowledge, the communion was suppose to take good care of their parishes. 3. What moral right does the ACN have to complain about corruption since the are also part if not leading in contribution to the nose dive of our economy. Nigeria as a country has a lot of drain pipes, religion for me is the biggest of them all. We spend money to send people on pilgrimages, what has it benefited us? We also spend money to organise church programmes to commemorate our national holidays, how has it moved us forward? People steal money from the public and private sectors of the economy and spend it on churches and mosques but our pastors and imams still pray for them that they will continue to prosper. If the Nigerian project is to succeed, we Nigerians will have to drop our togas of tribalism and religion to call a spade a spade. Finally I ask, was it morally right for our president to have hinted that the church was not befitting his status? Was it also morally right for him to have received the church on behalf of the Anglican communion when it was obvious that the renovation was done by a contrator to the government he heads? |
Do we have ministers in the cabinet? Do we even have a government? I hear more of politicians scheming themselves out or in and corruption cases in the news than any of the sector or function of the governments put together. |
Looks like finally Abami Eda's ever green song is leaving the mouth and mind of Nigerians...suffering and smiling. How will the combo problem of poverty induced by fuel subsidy removal and BH not remove smiles and happiness from people's hearts? |
Hmm...the OP got me there, I do it especially when I am angry or trying to prove a point I believe very much in. But to say I advertise it, I doubt o because I flow more with people who are more comfortable than I do. |
While I still keep asking myself what's in her presidency for Nigeria, I wonder too why she was made the finance minister in the first place when she was eventually going to be put forward for the WB presidency. |
The thread started on a good note but as usual it has changed lanes with insults and tribalism. Can we ever have a thread on NL that will be without insults? To the topic of the thread, for me it is not only about who heads the WB but is there anything in it for us as gains. We have at different forums lamented the suffering that the european imperialists have melted on developing countries through agencies such as the WB and the IMF. So why are we interested in the leadership of such agencies? Will a NOI presidency of the WB change obnoxious policies of the agency towards Africa and other developing countries? On the flip side what was the contribution of NOI to the development of Africa when she was at the WB aside paying more money in the search for debt forgiveness? |
This is a country where you do not know who to belief and who to trust. Nobody here can say categorically that Ndume is saying the truth or otherwise. To the title of the article, this is what can be referred to as inference. If Ndume was arrested, put on trial and called a sponsor of the BH sect while the VP is also privy to all that Ndume knows, then the VP is also a sponsor, should be arrested and put on trial. Nigeria been what we are known for, the case just died a natural death. |
I am trying to understand why we are wasting so much energy and time on the ongoing probe. All these revelations are only for our information and not action. Is it that the members in the house cannot ask or receive bribe, or are we saying that a leader (otteh in this case) in any of the numerous government's agencies cannot offer bride? What has been the outcome of previous probes and the indicted people? Some of them have gone ahead to become serving ministers and head of security formations. The noise been made by both camps will soon become music that will slowly fade away. |
@all, I stumbled across this piece of news from TECHWATCH. Four men in the UK have been jailed a total of 11yrs for card sharing: https://www.nairaland.com/896728/starview-team-jailed-over-card Lets read and be wise. I won't say more than that. Viva FTA!
Thanks for reminding us of some of the things that must not be taken for granted. And like i usually say, the biggest key on any computer's keyboard is the "ignore button" Shall we all in unism press, 1, 2, 3... go! |
For a long time, I didn't even know it was an advert for a telecomms company. I had thought it was just a motivation speaker doing his thing. Adverts for what they are are basically exaggerations, the more you exaggerate, the more you get the products to sell. Little wonder you see a billboard showing an accomplished young man in the company of some girls holding a stick of cigarrete, but before you want to be like him, you see the shocker, smokers are liable to die young...LOL! |
Marital issues are always complex and as well delicate to comment and advise on. We cannot really blame the woman for trying to stay and take care of her children because our culture has made it mandatory for a lady to endure whatever in her marital life, I used to wonder what people really mean when they say to the woman that the house of a man is like a school, the woman is indoctrinated to believe it is her fault only when it is not working. The complexities of marriage will also make it very unfair to blame the man since we didn't hear his side of the story. For me, I think the age difference is such a wide gap that will make the two of you have different priories and goals. I am always an advocate of marry your mate, you will be able to discuss without having a feeling that you will be schooled or mistaken for been dis respective. As this is already late, you are both married already, if truly, your husband has threatened to deform you had better run as far as your legs can carry you before he carries out his treat. |
Some guys here are very funny and will not stop to amuse me. When Arsenal and Chelsea play and they are beaten, the old toilet fans will be screaming on top of their voices and the topic will be filled with their hatreds. Now that your MUMU FC have failed you, you have again resorted to blame it on the quality of opposition in the EPL. Man Utd is a disgrace to EPL, UCL dem no gree qualify, Europa, common Atletico dey beat you for home, I know very soon, you will even deny you were beaten, mouthed fans! |
Even if we loose today, we already won. I am impressed and proud to be a gunner! |
