Ttalk:I believe it is the way the message is being touted. There is no big joy in reaping huge IGR for Lagos, there is no accolade for it. Taxpayers are complaining about the double taxation in Lagos. Then why would someone come here and start to jump for joy over Lagos IGR. It is either the person isn't paying taxes or works for the Government because he is sure of his monthly salary. |
I just wish to point out something here for posterity sake. Dangote, currently, is not owing any Nigerian Bank. After the Sanusi saga of releasing names of bad debtor, Dangote paid all debts to Nigerian Banks. Dangote Group do not borrow from any Nigerian Bank again, they now seek alternative cheap source of funds aboard. I can confidently tell you that Dangote, personally, not his group company, has $100,000,000 as fixed deposit in one of the new generation banks. This I have seen for myself and mind you it is just one Bank, now think of others. Dbanj is broke, I can tell you that confidently. He is owing many Nigerian Banks. Though I am surprise that he now meets private companies for funds. His lifestyle is responsible for this. It has been speculated that he takes hard-drugs. I know some of his account officers in Banks and we are very aware of this since 2012. However, I wish to mention that he hustles and makes payment but not regularly. |
Ttalk:It is a shame that we have converted this into a tribal war rather than ask pertinent questions such as accountability for the Internal Generated Revenue and transparency in the process these funds are generated. As a taxpayer in Lagos, I feel the state owes me a duty to explain how my money was utilised. |
shizzleStar:Well that depends on if that child gets a job. You should know that our government do not provide jobs. |
customized13:Chief, download Pricewatercooper House taxation law for 2013/2014 (Nigeria). LGA are responsibile for council taxes, State responsible for Personal Income Taxes and other State taxes, Federal Government - Custom duties, Import taxes, VAT etc |
shizzleStar:No. population has nothing to do with IGR. IGR is dependent on taxable individuals. A taxable individual is one that is eligible for taxation. You cannot tax a child, can you? Also, individual in taxation - includes taxable persons & corporate entities |
customized13:IGR is a disease to the populace, the bigger it is the poorer the people. It is only a MAD MAN that dances to increased IGR, except the mad man is part of the government people terrorizing this country |

pendy79:You know taxation. You must have studied accountancy no doubt. I encourage people to go download the PWC taxation act 2013/14 for Nigeria and get educated on taxation. Getting tired of the noise with Lagos state generating more IGR. |
basilo101:God bless you in three folds. Some people do not understand. Oil has spoilt us, now it will punish us. Since people do not understand what IGR means. It means taxes and taxes means taking money away from the populace. Even if you do not pay taxes now, either because you are a student or you are hiding, you will one day start to pay and when you do, probably you will understand. Funny how people rejoice over IGR, when some people are complaining that Lagos state is taxing them so much. |
shizzleStar:Well they do not pay taxes. I am very unhappy with our government - every single one of them from Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikiwe to Jonathan. They have failed us all. A decline in Oil prices means a short fall in Federal reserves/external revenue and likewise a fall in Federal Allocation, a shortfall in Federal Allocation means State government will commence a guerilla warfare on its people through taxes because they have salaries and bills to pay and also take care of their respective mistresses. An increase in taxes means further economic hardship on people. If only they saw Oil as one form of revenue and not the ONLY form of revenue, we will not get into this mess. If only they were serious about our education and health care. We would have seen an influx of foreigners coming into these country to get quality education and also health tourists. These foreigners can also be trapped down to develop our economy because you cannot get good education and run away to develop your country. The UK is benefiting hugely from education tourism. India is benefiting now from Healthcare tourism. Now our government is shouting Agriculture. Everybody is rushing into Agriculture, just like we all rush into Oil and Gas. When we kill that industry, maybe we will look for the next thing to kill. Every sector should be developed and not certain sector. It is unbelievable that since Oil was discovered in 1958, we are yet to have a petroleum industrial bill even as I type this. Nigeria is a land of waste. |
DonaldGenes:He is the closest to something called leadership but his past will haunt him. I prefer him to Buhari and you should know that he has more experience than Jonathan. |
People, diversification of economy does not translate to Internal Generated Revenue. We should be more interested in generating external revenue rather than taxing ourselves. Lagos IGR is both from taxes and federal allocation. The question people should be asking rather than making a huge noise about how much Lagos has been able to tax people, is where are these IGRs going into. How has these monies being used to generate foreign revenue for the country? How has these monies being used to reduce poverty and unemployment situations in Lagos state. |
Our leaders cannot think. The only economy diversification they will implement is to increase taxes. These taxes will be used to support their frivolous lifestyle. Imagine you paying your governor to embark on his regular sex escapades. How many governors really sit down to think? How many of them have a strategy plan for their respective state and where they want the state to be. When you ask them, they tell you they have built roads, hospitals and buildings for schools. How many of them have been able to steal and retain the youth corpers that come to their state to serve? |
Raiders:VERY DUMP POST. When the high taxes start rolling in - who will be the first to complain. Our leaders are inept. All of them. Everyone applauding Fashola should go back to the archives and find out how come Lagos started implementing its tax policies. It was the rift between Obasanjo and Tinubu on Local government allocations that made Lagos to seek taxes as a way of paying Lagos state civil servants salaries. Lagos was just the same as others - receiving handouts from Federal allocation. Our leaders has failed us in every respect. They fail to think, they fail to inspire, they also fail to implement sustainable policies to will ensure good economic development. They failed to realised that countries compete against themselves for earth's natural resources and likewise every nation's intends to strengthen their respective economies. Oil prices can never go up again regardless of whether OPEC cuts production or not and that is a major risk to us. Whether we are diversifying our economy or not, it is a risk of loss in revenue. Since we have failed to think, now we shall reap the pains. We have elected leaders with intestines inside their brains, a reason why we hear of stomach infrastructures. |
These guys just gone on killing like it is a sport for them. Where are our military when you need them? |
Forty years ago, a young Nigerian returned home from his studies in England with his hard-earned degree in engineering. Proud and ready to get to work building his country providing for his family, he accepted a job with Electricity Corporation of Nigeria, which was Nigeria’s national power company at the time. The young engineer was a true Nigerian. He was smart, he was bold and he had a huge vision for Nigeria’s prosperity that went beyond collecting a few bucks from foreign countries for Nigeria’s then newfound oil. Armed with his formal education and razor sharp mind, the young engineer laid out a plan for Nigeria’s prosperity, using crude oil as a way for Nigeria to create multiple revenue streams. After six years working with ECN, he left his post to build the new industrial economy he thought Nigeria deserved. He wrote a plan to create a chemical industry based on using the oil as the raw material to create a chemical industry, a plastics industry, a chlorine industry and other materials that would come right from the Nigeria’s rich oil supply. It was a brilliant plan that, if properly executed, would have set Nigeria on a growth path like the exponential growth we’ve seen in China, Singapore, and South Korea. But no sooner had he implemented the plan when the saboteurs began offering bribes for him to manipulate the cost of raw materials so third parties could essentially rip off the Nigerian government. When he refused, he was framed, nearly jailed and finally lost his company. It’s a familiar story, isn’t it? We’ve seen the same thing and worse happen to a multitude of would-be leaders who have bright ideas and a passion for Nigeria but one fatal flaw – they have integrity. Leaders who can’t be bought don’t last as leaders very long in Nigeria. How many ambitious Nigerians have fallen victim to the greed and jealousy of visionless leaders? I don’t doubt it was these same devilish leaders who are responsible for Nigeria’s current economic predicament. Nigeria relies on imports for ninety percent of its industrial raw materials. While we pump about two million barrels of oil a day, we have to import oil from Ivory Coast to provide petro to fuel our cars and generators. Ivory Coast doesn’t even have an oil well! Nigerian leaders have voted multiple times to use Nigerian resources to improve on Nigeria’s refineries, but soon the money disappears and the refineries remain unproductive. So, what does that have to do with the American president, Toyin? Everything. Three years ago, I wrote an article which I entitled Obama’s Dream is Nigeria’s Nightmare. In it, I warned Nigerian leaders that America would soon stop importing Nigeria's oil. At the time I wrote the article, Nigeria exported at least one million barrels of oil per day to the U.S. When Obama came into office, one of his dreams was to reduce America's dependency on foreign oil. I believed he would achieve his dream and the impact would be detrimental to Nigeria, which depends on oil revenue for over 90% of its foreign exchange. Just as I suspected, the U.S. has significantly decreased imports of Nigerian oil. At the start of 2014, the U.S. was importing about 100,000 barrels of oil a day from Nigeria. That’s a 90% drop from the million barrels a day the U.S. was importing just a few years ago. According to an article published in the Financial Times, the U.S. Department of Energy did not import a single barrel of crude to U.S.-based refiners in July, for the first time since 1973. Today, the price of oil has dropped from $100+ per barrel to just under $75. Raul Pal of Global Macro Investor estimates if the dollar remains strong, crude oil could go down to $30 per barrel “and stay there for a while." Can you imagine what that kind of price drop would do to Nigeria? Life in Nigeria is already difficult. What will happen if the nation loses 66% of its revenue? Now, consider the alternative. What if that young engineer had been allowed to realize his vision? Nigeria would be able to export other industrial raw materials like petro chemicals, oil derivatives, and plastics instead of being dependent on one commodity it can’t even control. When I first sounded the alarm in 2010, I warned Nigerian leaders about President Obama's plan to wean the country off foreign oil. Some rather clueless Nigerians argued that if the U.S. does not buy our oil, other nations will buy it. But they failed to realize that the economic toll America’s dependence on its own shale oil would make on the oil market. The change could depress oil prices longer than Nigeria is able to withstand, especially since Nigeria does not have any other export revenue sources besides crude oil. Even despite Nigeria’s imminent plunge further into the abyss, I don’t hear any Nigerian leaders talking about a plan for our future. None of the people currently vying for office have mentioned this disaster waiting to happen. No one has a bold new vision for Nigeria, not even one that is better than the one the young engineer came up with forty years ago. Where there is no vision, the people perish. And hope is founded on visions. No vision, no hope. In 1961, John F. Kennedy said within ten years, "America should put a man on the moon and return him back to earth." Just by speaking those words into existence, Americans were inspired to venture into previously uncharted territories in space exploration, technology and computer science. The results have been world-changing. His words, no doubt, served as the hope on which the World Wide Web was built. Well, when Obama stated in 2009 that one of his goals was to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil, it propelled the whole country into a new paradigm that opened doors for policies and technologies that created fracking which unleashed oil buried deep in impenetrable rocks for centuries. Now, for the first time in America's long history, America is now exporting oil. Thanks to a visionary leader. Thanks to free enterprise. Thanks to policies that unleashed entrepreneurs. In Nigeria, all the oil and the ground where it exists belong to the government. In American, the oil and the ground where the oil is buried belong to the people who own the land and they have the freedom and the right to explore as they see fit as long as they do so lawfully. That is why Nigeria's oil is a nightmare to the people whose ancestors have owned and controlled the land for centuries while in America, the oil has been a blessing to the land owners whose ancestors have owned and controlled the land for centuries. That is why the Nigeria state of Bayelsa has billions in oil reserve but is languishing in poverty, while the U.S. state of North Dakota has billions in oil reserve and is prospering. In Nigeria, oil is used as a weapon of Mass destruction, while in America, oil is used as a weapon of Mass Prosperity. In Nigeria, everywhere there is oil, there is extreme pollution, huge joblessness, hopelessness, and poverty. There is no electricity, no running water, no plumbing and no functioning schools. Every Nigerian is suffering from the curse of living under the boot of a bad leader. Recently, the “Honorable” Minister of economy was quoted as saying, "The Nigerian Government must adjust to permanent oil price shock.” Really? Madam Minister, it should not be a shock, the writing was on the wall for a long time. The state governors are scrambling to pay wages, because 90% of their revenue is derived for oil money handed over to them by their masters in Abuja. Since they don't have to think about developing or growing their economy, they are now sitting ducks for the impending devastation from the drop in oil revenue. If only these honorable men and women leaders had seen the writing on the wall, or listened to the alarm when I raised it four years ago. Even if they heard the alarm, it's typical of Nigerian leaders to ignore such warnings anyway. They are too busy stealing. Now the nightmares are here. Even the Federal government is worried. Nigeria’s progress has to start with a dream, a vision, and a decision by its leaders to do what is right. It starts with the dreams and visions of the people who are bold enough to support and vote for incorrigible leaders who put the welfare, security and prosperity of its people at the forefront. So now in the face of falling oil prices, the downward spiral of the Nigerian currency, falling revenues, and the dwindling of foreign reserves, I hope our leaders can help us to wake up from the nightmares Nigerians have been living for decades. Vote, Nigeria, but don’t just vote for “a president.” Vote for a visionary leader. http://saharareporters.com/2014/11/24/obamas-dream-realized-nigerias-nightmares-just-began-toyin-dawodu |

i think they were not discreet about the arrangement. Someone close to them decided to report them. |
Oh there is some truth to this awkward news. I was surprised reading Adebayor calling his mother a witch and that they had done juju on him to affect his career. First and foremost, I want him to debunk such belief because it would truly affect his thinking and undermine his career. Rather than him criticising himself positively on certain career issues, he would be attributing and blaming Togolese juju. The only juju that would affect his career is himself. The approach the family has taken is really bad. They should consider his effort of assisting the family as a privilege and not his responsibility. Each member of the family should dust off their lazy butt and go do something for themselves rather than creating rift in the family. It is a shame that the family is busy trying to look out for what Adebayor would provide for them. Adebayor should start his own family and concentrate on them and he is truly right by saying that his siblings should share the responsibility of taking care of their mother. Adebayor is only disturbed by the situation in the family and that is the juju disturbing him. |
The rep member asked an important question at the end of the clip - What is the problem with Jonathan? The president is allowing his ambition becloud his judgement. |
this news cannot be true. I last listened to him on thursday and I believed on tuesday when his daughter, monalisa, called the studio surprisingly was a hallmark for me. They share a remarkable bond, one I would love to share with my family. It is still a shock to believe this. A huge shock. Wow. I would be tuning in my radio on monday with the belief of hearing his voice and disregarding this news. whah |
miembamish:You blame the coach. He wasn't fit yet he was fielded into the team. Kesha should accept the blame but he is not the ONLY problem. NFF are yet to have a blueprint for our football. |
nora544:That's okay. Glad for your friend. Rather than start praying, fasting and wailing. They went to the hospital to figure out the problem. Now they are happy. |
mikuut:First and foremost, my mother died of cancer (lungs metastases) Google up. Your post shows you have never experience the situation before (either yourself or a close family member). If you have you would never be so insensitive. Secondly, I am not pagan, but my understanding and knowledge about God differs from what you think and I would not force my beliefs on anyone. I go to hospitals for regular check-ups and when I experience illness, there is nothing wrong with that. You may be scared of medical bills and if that is your problem, then I understand why you seek cheap, crude, unscientific, unresolved treatments for your ailments and I am sorry for you. Truly, I am sorry for you because you would continue in such ignorance and when an illness, which could have been easily treated if you had gone for check-up, hits you; you engage in the typical ignorant, crude ways of yours and we all know how it would end up. I have seen people ignore hospitals and treatment only to leave behind their family in grief. If you are selfish and stingy to treat yourself, think of the family you would leave behind if you transcend to meet your creator. If you are not so financially buoyant, then my apologies. Just like you have gone to read up my previous posts, you should have seen what I do for a living (aha you probably ignored that too) |
manoda:Manoda, I appreciate and respect your decision. I respect the decision, if you are not part of the syndicate, that you want your gullibility to be exploited. Everyone is responsible for themselves. I wish to set the record straight because some of you who have gone to read my previous posts have decided to misconstrued things to suit yourself. - I did not go to meet a pastor to pray for my mother. I was actually at the hospital when the pastor and his team came around. - We all knew that my mother was going to pass on because the doctors has pre-informed us even her cancer condition is free available on the internet. We hid the information from my mother. Why it was painful was that the death occurred sooner than expected. We anticipated months, but it happened within couple of days. - Despite being sceptical about the doings, undoing, manipulations, actions, inactions, falsehood of pastors, I do believe in God the Supreme Being and Creator and just like every human being who is yet to fully understand and grasps the mystery of this supreme being, I resulted to hope because I do not wish to lose my mother. Well it has happened and I am stronger now and I also know better now. My mother's death and other experiences continues to justify my reason - if you act in certain conditions, the result attributed to the conditions will naturally take effect. - Now to you manoda, do you want to have a child? Why don't you go to the hospital and get looked at so that you can know what is wrong with you or your partner and begin the treatment process. When you seek hope from fraudsters, you delay your treatment. When you are knowledgeable about something, you begin the address the situation based on your knowledge. - The Supreme Being is expressed in every way and it was not a mistake that there are doctors/scientist who can solve your issue. |
clean2:I have been to your worship centre at Ijesha on the persuasion of a close personal friend. The person does not have a good appeal. There was also a confession by a lady about the church. I think it is on youtube. |
it is either money or sex related issues. Investigate properly |
mikron:Trusting this super eagles is a huge risky venture |
dorox:LMAO. Funny enough you are right. Sirjohn is quite a nice guy. I don't play such cards because the likes of joagbaje prey on the gullible and if allowed a lot of innocent people would suffer from patronising him. For the record, I have no personal vendetta against Joe. I just cannot stand people of his calibre. They are dubious and callous. Since I have identified him as one, it shall not be well with him both on nairaland and in bayelsa. It is good that he is avoiding the thread and nairaland with the moniker Joagbaje (maybe following with another moniker). Let it remain that way because the moment I see him I shall continue to e-haunt him thoroughly and give him some terrible nightmares. |
blessedbeads:I can see if you need to be informed. I don't know what your issues are. If you can tell me I would recommend a fine doctor for you and you would also get a discount and if you prefer privacy I would recommend a good top notch hospital. Except you want to promote this propaganda or you intend to strengthen your spiritual faith. However the case, my stance still remain the same that your servant is a fraud and he is not alone. I can pick out a couple of his co-workers here on this thread. Please don't suffer in silence and complicate matters. |
