Troublemaker007:Unfortunately, these are the kind of Landlords in Nigeria. The most horrible ones are those that reside within the same building with their tenants. |
goodvision12:Lawyer don’t work for free, whether friend or not. If you don’t have the financial means to get a lawyer, please reconsider your motive. Your landlord will destroy you. Complete the rent period and relocate. |
rayblings:You are right with your principle. However, also note the comment of others. These comments are based on what is considered as generally acceptable behavior. Though, in my opinion, I think it is ridiculous, but to avoid future problems, you may need to reconsider. Since you reason this way, you then need to consider relocating to areas that share your logic and likewise read agreements before signing |
mynamewilfred:Since there is no obligation stated by each party to the contract, it is expected that the Landlord fixes the pumping machine. He is the owner and as such incurs both benefits and liabilities accrued to ownership of the asset. |
goodvision12:Proceed to a lawyer and let the lawyer issue him an injunction. Your landlord has no right to threaten you or even come to your house without your invitation. He has no right to harass you because he is violating the terms of agreement. However, after your action, be prepared to fight a battle with him because many Nigerian Landlords are uneducated, unexposed and vindictive. If you have the financial power, you must be determined to fight to the finish. Else it is better to leave such accommodation |
The Landlord is responsible for all repairs and maintenance because he/she owns the asset and enjoys benefits in the form of rent from the usage of the asset and in order to continue to enjoy this benefit, he/she must ensure the asset is in good form. However, you must review the tenancy agreement you have with your landlord or estate management company. If the contract stipulates that repairs and maintenance would be undertaken by the Tenant, then you may have to contribute. If there is no such condition in the agreement, the Landlord would be responsible for such repairs. On the other hand and because many Landlords in Nigeria are ill exposed and vindictive, you may consider contributing to avoid future problems which may result to termination of the contract at a point you may be at a disadvantage position. I am giving you this advice based on what is expected and what is practically obtainable and what I have experienced. I remember my bachelorhood, when I was residing on the mainland, my Landlord insisted I pay N4,000 per month as PHCN. I was paying for his power consumption and mine and there was even change. He never issued me any receipt. I discovered this after my investigation, and after paying for 3 years. I went to PHCN and they were shocked. I saw the monthly consumption and payment. I confronted him and that was the genesis of our very toxic relationship till I relocated to the island. On the island, the estate management company is responsible for all repairs and maintenance even down to my doorknob. Any issue, I escalate and they fix it. However, if there is any delay and I can no longer wait, I can proceed to fix it, send the receipt to them and deduct it from my rent. Hope you are able to note the difference. |
Dotng:You don’t understand the motive. They want to link the crime rise to Nigerians/Africans in London. That’s the motive. |
mu2sa2:Are you minding them. That is their MO - blame everyone else |
ebby9z:That’s the annoying part of it. Tech starve middle class - that’s an insult. Nigerian middle class don’t buy used phones. If there is one thing Nigerian middle class is good for is to show off their new phones. Phone manufacturers are very aware of this. However, they want to continue painting Nigeria as a backward country to sell their motives. Ignorant whites. Let them go and fix their crime problems. Let me even state that London is just like Lagos, dirty, crowded/congested. I have seen hawkers and beggars on the streets of London and they were not blacks. As I write this, I’m in traffic congestion. The only difference between London and Lagos is the organization. Apart from that, it’s trash with cold and rain falling almost everyday. |
This is trash and the Nigerian government has to react strictly to this and sternly warn the UK. I am currently in London on holidays and there is an increase in crime especially in North London. Just yesterday, two people were attacked in two unrelated incidents. One is dead and the other fighting for his life. The rise in crime in London has been blamed on the increase in immigration by Londoners. They blame everyone from Africa to Eastern Europeans. However, they are yet to ascertain the rise in crime. This publication from Sun is an excuse to heap the blame on Nigerians in North London and link the increase in crime to them. It is nonsense and pure speculation and the usual behaviors of westerners to pass the blame around to everybody apart from themselves. |
That’s an ASP wow |
That’s an ASP |
I don’t believe this story. How do you sign a paper without reading, except it’s forged. How do you take money out a joint account without the prior knowledge of your partner. This story isn’t adding up. If it is true, which I doubt. He can sue, if he has the money for a good lawyer. He should sue both the current boyfriend too. |
martineverest:All these kids on nairaland. I wonder when they will mature. At some point, it begins to appear like Nairaland is not for my age group again, where matured opinion can be provided and argued. |
I think you guys don’t understand him. He is not talking to the housemates. He is talking to Multichoice, owners of DSTV and content providers. He is telling them to stop pushing the sex agenda. Everything you see on Big Brother is a script. Each housemate is giving a script on what to do inside the house. |
Wow I like logical argument and supporting it with facts. This is what Reno has done here. Regardless of how you feel about the Jonathan’s administration, I can say it’s a lot better than what we are experiencing here. We continue to give APC benefit of doubt. However, it appears they are worst than their predecessors. This is coming from someone who passionately supported and believed in Buhari. |
They both won’t make it to play for England since they both play for underachieving clubs, Swansea and Bournemouth. If they have good management team, it would be wise for them to play for Nigeria and let the world see their talent. |
How can the president commission what has already been commissioned. That project was commissioned by GEJ, Fashola and Bill Clinton. I mentioned this previously. So I’m not surprised that there is denial. I hope Ambode is not counting this as part of this achievements because first, it’s a private initiative - let’s stop the nonsense about private-public initiative. It’s purely private and owned by the Lebanese that owns Eko hotels. Second, the project will not improve the lives of the average Lagosians |
ice234:Go to Benin and test the potency of the Oba curse. Stop making noise here on nairaland. |
concupiscent:Concupiscent let me be honest with you for one second. I’m a very logical and rational individual. I don’t believe in witches or other forms of negative forces. However, after I did a brief research of Benin empire, I fear my head. I don’t want to join issues with the Oba of Benin. I don’t want to rationalize it. Benin juju no get part 2 |
After they chase their husbands away - they do shout out to themselves |
Sunnycliff:You must have said some really bad stuff based on your comment. |
NwaAmaikpe:You are a clown. Very funny. I guess we would be observing some good behavior now from nairalanders |
Cossy release this book of yours. |
The mistake APC did was to release a list. That list clearly agrees with a lot of Nigerians that the war on corruption is a media war and a joke |
The surgery is not bad though. |
How can people carry assault rifles openly in public without any arrest. Is Nigeria now observing “Open Carry”? |
I wanted to see some ridiculous amount. Well I don’t know if that amount is proportionate to your power consumption, but it’s not sufficient enough to create a thread to wail. Negotiate with them so your concerns can be addressed. |
Only 6 people? So what’s the noise with the treasury was empty if you can only name 6 people. What’s the noise about corruption, if only 6 people have been alleged accused of corruption. Finally, have these people been convicted yet? In my opinion, there is no fight against corruption. All we have been hearing and seeing are not but smoke and shadows. |
