We really enjoyed Barbados during our short visits. I have visited quite a few islands in the Eastern/Southern and Western caribbean Islands. I would not mind working for a US based IT consulting company that has short contracts (say 3 - 6 months at a time) there. Have family here, so can't be gone for too long at a time. It's good to know that there are some Nigerians there. I actually met a couple of Nigerians when we vacationed in Antigua (another very beautiful Southern Caribbean Island) early this year.

According to google, this person is a spokesperson for Edo state. Is this the same individual? Google strangely could not come up on anything regarding a drowning/death though. What is your source?

A nigerian Kingsley osadolor, 37 a visitor in barbados drowned on friday evening while in swiming session in browne's beach.
His body was retrieved two hours later after private divers came.

Wow! There are actually some Nigerians is Barbados? It's one of the bigger Caribbean islands. Frequented mostly by British and American tourists. I have been there with my family twice while on vacation. Our cruise ship had a stop over there. On both occasions, we just hit one of the beaches and did a mini tour of the island. Very beautiful island with lots of beaches. I was just there in March.

I will not advice anyone to go there with the hope of getting a job though. The locals are considered first. Even Americans and British must have extremely rare qualifications to be able to get a job there. Besides, the #1 source of revenue there, like most other islands, is tourism.

Suspect charged with fatal St. Louis Park shooting

Authorities have arrested a suspect in a fatal shooting outside of an assisted living facility.

Hennepin County officials told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they arrested 50-year-old Michael Collins Iheme of Brooklyn Park.

Iheme has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a shooting outside of Sholom Home West, located in the 3600 block of Phillips Parkway.

According to the criminal complaint, Iheme shot his wife, 28-year-old Anthonia Eberchi Iheme, several times while she was inside her car around 3 p.m. Thursday.

"Yes, I have killed the woman that messed my life up, a woman that had destroyed me," Iheme admitted in the criminal complaint.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed Friday that Anthonia Iheme died as a result of multiple gun shot wounds.

St. Louis Park Police later arrested Iheme in the parking lot of the assisted living home.

Officials recovered a .45 caliber magazine, Minnesota gun permit, and a receipt from a gun purchase from Cabela's from Iheme's car, according to the criminal complaint.

According to Hennepin County District Court records, the victim had a current restraining order against Iheme. The couple had a long history of domestic abuse, according to police records.

Anthonia and Michael have a pending divorce case open in Hennepin County.

The couple also has two children, who were taken to a day care center the day of the shooting. Iheme went to the center and gave workers additional emergency contact information, telling employees he was making the change 'in case something happened,' according to the criminal complaint.

The Sholom Community Alliance has set up a memorial fund for Anthonia's children through Bremer Bank.

Checks should be made payable to: Anthonia Iheme Memorial Fund

You need to talk to the authorities as soon as possible. Some women need to wake up and stop taking this crap! Unless you do not want to contact the authorities due to other undisclosed reasons. Any man that raises his hands at a woman is a coward! No matter what, there are several ways to avoid beating a woman.  And he is beating a a pregnant lady, he will be charged with several offences if it were here.

Talk to your fiancee as an adult, and ask him to come clean. Something sounds fishy with their relationship. If she actually said those words to him, they probably have something going on. Yes, she knows you are around, but it sounds like she feels she as a good chance at him as you. Which means they are more than just neighbors.

I concur. I have been using both of them, in addition to Struts since I have been at the current client. Going on almost 3 years. In this field you learn something new every day.

Let's not turn this into a pointless and baseless argument (a major reason why I tend not to respond to a lot of threads here) just like almost every other thread on Nairaland. Bottom line, We are all entitled to our opinions. Hopefully this thread gets back on track to address the original question.

Programming › Re: How Long Did It Take U'all To Learn Programming? 10 Years? by Bossman(m): 9:51pm On Jul 21, 2008
Actually, math does play a significant role in programming. Specifically, Discrete Mathematics, and also algebra and calculus to some extent. Yes, the ability to be able to think logically is the most important, however very good math skills will make solving programming problems come natural. If you hate math you very likely will NOT like programming. Statistics have continuously shown that those that like programming and are very successful at it, are very good in math. In US colleges/University, most computer science and Math departments are usually together.

That is definitely one of the reasons. While you will see people that are making it and living well in Nigeria, a very large majority are not.

Exactly Guys! The point we are trying to get across. All of us, at least those of us in the UK, US, and the rest of the west, can attest to the fact that these fields highly rewarding in general. However, nothing comes easy. And you really have to love doing it in order to become very good at it. Along with that comes a lot of frustrations and challenges, and if you are in it only for the money, it will be a tough ladder to climb.

Again, whatever field you go into, just work hard to be you possible best at it. Along with that will come the reward.
Programming › Re: Defend Your Programming Language by Bossman(m): 5:11pm On Jul 10, 2008
Every programming language has its pros and cons. Use whatever works for you to get the job done. Be it, VB, Java, COBOL or whatever. I see a lot of postings in the forums here trying to imply that this is better than that. If it works for you, use it! Whatever you do, regardless of the programming language, make sure you are very good at it. That will go a long way.

I really wanted to refrain from responding to this thread, but I think the word needs to get out there, that we Nigerians need to get a way from these pointless arguments. I visit other programming forums and do not see any of the baseless posts and arguments that I observe on nairaland.

What is this pastor going to do? So, if the pastor asks that you not marry him, you will be lieve him? A lot of these pastors do not know their head from their bottom.

You need to use your own judgement and determine what is good for you. You should be able to tell if you guys are meant for each other. And don't wait for some damn pastor to tell you what to do.
Career › Re: Salary Of A Programmer Or Database Administrator by Bossman(m): 4:47pm On Jul 08, 2008
Don't go into programming with how much money you can make as the sole reason. More than likely you will fail miserably. Is it something you love, is it something you will like to do day and night even if you do not get paid at all, do you like problem solving, specifically do you like mathematics? If you cannot answer yes to all these questions, your chances of surviving in the field of application development are very slim.

You obviously did not know this woman before you married her. Looks like an arranged marriage to me. They almost always never work. Good luck!

EDIT: Ok, I just read more of your posts. It's a good thing that you spke to an attorney ASAP. Sorry about your plight. As long as your ex does ot have any evidence against you, there is no case for her.

If the calls are that consistent, there is a good chance there is something between them. Especially if he can not hold a conversation with her in your presence. They may just be close friends, however a lot of close friends find themselves in unexpected and unplanned situations. It's simple, tell him you do not want them calling him period! Or ask him how he would like it if guys are calling you all the time. To hell with coincidence!

Hope things work out for you.
Career › Re: Female, Wants To Be An Engineer? by Bossman(m): 7:13pm On Jun 26, 2008
Nella, I just want to mention that software engineering (at least here in the US) is another name for computer programming, software development, computer science. One school or discipline may refer to one of the above, however they all entail the same course work in school, or the same kind of work in the real world.
Phones › How Is The Data Connection On The Carriers? by Bossman(op): 5:21pm On Jun 26, 2008
Folks, how is the data connection say on MTN or GLO? I plan on using my smartphone as my primary access to the internet when I visit in August. However,  I will need to have a very reliable connection. So, the question is can one consistently maintain a connection or are there busy periods where one can not connect at all?

My experience almost 2 year ago was so so. It was very slow and a lot of times it just did not work. I roamed mostly on both MTN and GLO for my data.  I also had a celtel sim for voice. Also, are any of the carriers already running 3G?
Career › Re: Female, Wants To Be An Engineer? by Bossman(m): 4:27pm On Jun 26, 2008
As others said, just weigh your options, determine what you love doing, and go for it. Majority if not all the engineering principles are very rewarding. Obviously the level of reward will very but they all have very good job stability.  Personally I am a software developer, however I have friends who are Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, and industrial engineers. And they are all doing extremely well. They are all Professional Engineers (PE). So, you should also look into getting certified as that will separate you from the pack!

Good luck!

Which browser are you using and is it Java enabled? The easiest way to tell (without writing code in your applet or using Javascript to query it) is to visit one of the several websites the have an applet and see if your browsers JVM can run it. There are several test sites out there, google for it!

Firstly, do not believe any $hit that pastor tells you. It's all nonsense! Don't put too much pressure on yourself because some pastor said something. A lot of those pastors themselves are confused. When it's time, the right person will come along. It seems like this guy is not your type, so don't waste time with him.

I concur, it's not easy travelling with kids, especially when they are quite young. I try to avoid stop-overs as much as possible when traveling with the kids. So, KLM is out of the question for you. Taking convenience and price difference between BA and Virgin Nigeria into consideration, I would go with Virgin Nigeria over BA, since they are both direct flights.
