Yes! Ask anyone that's using 3G on AT&T to post their speed test. You'll be surprised. 3G is broadband speed. Was at a friends house last weekend. I connected my laptop via cable to my blackjack and was surfing at even higher speeds. We were watching videos on youtube with complete ease! I just did a spped test right now on my treo 750. Clocked 647kbit/sec. BTW, these tests were done while in my basement where signal is marginal. See folks in the US talk about/post their speed tests then you'll know it's for real. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1291781 Fadajasi: |
It should be whole lot faster than that. 3G should be (at least on this end it is) on par with broadband speeds. I consistently get above 700 kbs. I just ran a test on my samsung blackjack it reported 783 kbit/sec. Fadajasi: |
I still use al the phones BTW, mostly the last 3. Moto V551 Nokia 3120 Moto SLVR L7 Samsung Blackjack Palm Treo 750 |
None of the networks in Nigeria practice IMEI blocking/barring yet, lie they do in most of western europe. I read somewhere that it's in the works though. The GSM carriers here do not even have it yet. The most you can do now is deactivate the sim. So, call your carrier to take care of that. |
As mentioned already, the question that needs to be asked is can they reliably provide 3G service. I could barely maintian a connection on GPRS/EDGE when I was there last year. The curent infrastructure in place has to be improved first. These companies can hardly provide consistent and reliable voice service. Also, 3G will not be free. It will defintely be a big plus if it can be deployed and it's very reliable. But that needs to be seen. |
Oh Yes. Definitely. Nigeria could not have presented me with the opportunities to get to where I am today. I learnt to become independent quickly. With hard work and a lot of doors have opened and continue to open. No way it could have heppend in Niger. You either have to know someone or pay someone to get ahead in that country. Lots of opportunities to become you want are here. You just have to take the bull by the horn and go! |
Same thing here. The beggars on the streets of downtown Chicago have on the latest snickers and designer jeans. And these are able bodied individuals with absolutely nothing wrong with them. I still give one particular one about a buck a week though. Only because he is the only one that kind of says something, and wishes you a safe trip home, a blessed day on the way in, he even gives Xmas cards to his good customers. |
Yes. your friend should be able to mail an over-the-counter drug via any postal service. So, I am surprised he is findig it hard to mail to you. Yes, it will cost more to send, but he should be able to send it. Unless he is finding it hard because of the cost, and that's a different story. You should be able to work that out with him. |
Obviously, we all know it will be nice if we do not have to rely on a generator as source of power. But, the reality is that's the case in Nigeria. Whatever electronics you use in Nigeria, the constant fluctuation of electricity, and the switching between generator and nepa power will damage or at least definitely shorten its shorten its lifetime. Bottom line, that's just the chance you take by using electronics in the country. It's the sad truth! |
HecK! I'd say kick his ass to the curb and move on. I think you said he is in the US with you right. It does not seem like he deserves you any longer. He has put you through a lot, and he probably is not going to change. No need to put yourself through all that stress. I know, I know, I know, a lot of African women do not want to go through, or want their kids go through life with a broken home. But, you have to do what's in your best interest. |
Sorry to hear about your plight. As others said, do not let the family issue stress you out more. What's more important is your health and you staying healthy as long as possible. And, it sounds like you've started in the right direction. Just follow whatever advice the doctor gives and take any prescribed medication. This is very deep, and I commend you for being able to share it with the forum members. Best of luck to you. |
Wow! I can't believe you are actually asking this question. What nonsense! You are thinking about having an affair because the wife is pregnant. I bet you are the type that believes in having more than one wife. It's unbelievable how some folks only think about themselves and their needs and nothing else! |
While it's okay to do. Tell your friend to watch out! The lady may just need a way to get out of Nigeria! They are talking marriage just 10 months after meeting. Has he even seen this lady before? |
I agree. Recently shipped a couple of cars to Lagos. It took about 4 weeks to get there from Dallas. Will be shipping another one in a few weeks. The shipper had to make sure he can fill the container before giving me a firm shipping date. The previous 2 were trucks an they cost $2300 each to ship. This one I am about to ship is a sedan and shipping was $2000. |
It could be something else. If he is serious and wants to move forward with you, he should at least have asked you. Obviously, the cost of travel etc. is not the problem. So, why don't you ask him why he did not aks if you wanted to go with him. |
You have a US acct. So, I am assuming you have a US address(Not P.O. Box). If so, then just go to paypal's website and go from there. |
I know, I think that's just the way they operate over there. By specifying age some potential candidates are obviously eliminated. Kobojunkie: |
Yes. That sim is roaming. It just so happens to be roaming on celtel. Depending on roaming agreements between the networks, it may pick another network. A lot of prepaid sim cards do not automatically activate outgoing calls when roaming. You have to cal them first. My virgin UK sim roamed mostly on MTN and sometimes GLO when I was there last year. My cingular sim roamed on MTN ONLY. |
I can only speak for the US. But each country has its advantages and disadvantages. First of all, Univ. of Florida is a very good school. So, you will not have problems getting a job after getting an MBA from there. Secondly, the US probably has more opportunities for you after graduation, and it's likely easier to get permanent residence. Bottom line, it's easier to make it in the US than in the UK. On a last note, you will probably see a lot of UK folks that would not mind moving to the US, versus the other way around. |
The best tutor you can have is you yourself. get a book or get stuff off the net, read and practice. The more the better. lot of things I have learnt in this field were not taught in shcool. It's from my reading and self motivation. Application development is not an easy field. if it was, every one will be doing it, and there will not be enough money to be made. It will take a lot of hard work on your part, but it can definitely be done. |
Have you dabbled in computers before, do you think you would like application development, database design, network management, etc? You need to determine what your strengths are. Yes, there might be money in IT in general, but it's not for everyone. Grab a programming book or search the internet for one, read through it, and see if it's somethng you may want to do for a living. Good luck. |
I guess it depends. On this end, besides the first interview, no need to wear tie. It's good to make that first impression. I last wore a tie to work in 1997. I think I have worn a suit a total of may be 10 times since then. Pretty much all the firms on this end, it's business casual. This particular client I am with (A major health Insurance company in downtown Chicago) did not even require tie on my first and only interview, they called me while I was at my other gig if I could come for an interview the same day, I told them that I did not have a tie/suit, and they said just come on down. Now, exactly what/who is a webmaster?AFAIK, you are either an application developer or not. And, that may or may not involve web development. |
Very good advice from kobojunkie. The real world is brutal! And you will be tested, at least in the western world. If you do not perfom, they will get rid of you quickly. So, as mentioned, make sure you do what you can to solve this simple problem yourself. For some of us, programming comes natural. I also understand that some of us have to work a bit harder for the concepts to sink. Good luck to you. |
That's not credit card. It's pretty much a "glorified debit card" The fact that you have to prepay, and you can't spend more than you have on it, makes its use very limited. I know, it's called a prepaid credit card. On this end, it's usually for those with bad credit. But at least it still gives them an option to rent a car, and buy stuff online, since a credit card is the widely accepted means of payment. Bottom line, you can't spend more than you have prepaid into the account. rufaai: |
Whatever you decide to do, I hope it works out for you. Either way, it's a tought decision. And, you, but only you can decide on what's best for you. I know you said you were negastive. But, that does nto mean you are out of the woods yet. I would suggest you test yourself regularly. Since, from what I have read, it can actually take some time for this disease to show up in someone that's infected. Best of luck to you. |
Yes. it's very sad indeed. He was my favorite reggae artist. I have all his CDs an DVDs. I also saw him live twice here in Chicago. As already posted, each and every one of his music has a message in it. He is always preaching love and happiness. He is just unique among reggae artists. He is very pure, and does not spoke or drink at all. Now, how can someone just decide to take his life? really unbelievable. It was a sad day for me when I heard. Received so many calls from people that know how much I like this guy and his music. He will truly be missed. RIP Lucky Phillip Dube. |
If you arte good at it, the job prospects here in the US are very good. |
There is a typo here or just complete misinformation. The frequencies used in Nigeria, Africa for that matter, Europe and Asia is 900/1800. 850 (also called 800) and 1900 are used in North America. nazzyon: |
This is a simple and very common application. Is this homework or this is a work project? if it's the former, I would suggest that you take the time to take about it and write down the steps you will take to solve it. Post it here, and let the knowledgable people in here post suggestions. If it's the latter, then, are you a developer? If so, you ought to be able to do this. In either case, it would not do you much good if someone writes the program and sends it to you. On the long run it will not help you. |
Have you configured your device with gmail's settings? http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=13287 |
Just contact the school. Try the registrar's office, the international Student's office or so. I am sure you have some kind of contact number for the school. As long as the fees are not non-refundable (it should not be), you shoulld be able to get it back. Just go through the proper channel. |
Webjunior, I am sorry to hear about your loss. This sounds like somethng that should have been prevented. Until the basic infrastructure in that country is up to standards, most people will continue to leave the country for medical treatment. But, unfortunately, those that can not afford will have to endure this nonsense! Why can't something be done for gods sake! Really painful men, May her soul rest in peace. |
