I was a good teen, regarding the time matter. Otherwise, pretty rotten— kind of. I didn't make my parents worry while I was at it though. Just minor stuff.

Not all teens are troublesome and we need to understand that they go through a lot at this age. It's not easy being a teen.

Because as a mother you are worried. But be assured that in most cases they do not do it to upset you but rather because their head is in the clouds at this age. It helps to assume that they do not have bad intentions and they will either rise or lower to your expectations.

My expectations have successfully been lowered. I'm getting to the point where I don't even comment on it. Do what you want, just don't commit a serious crime.

As a rule of thumb, it is best if the consequence is directly related to what they did wrong. For instance, if they do not tidy up their room, make them tidy up their room plus the living room or kitchen or whichever other room.

If they come too late from somewhere, make them come one hour earlier next time.

If they don't do their homework, leave for example the television/playstation off.

In all of this, never forget to discuss with them why it is important to do or not do so and so. Do it after your anger subsides in a calm manner. But this is not a replacement for the consequences that must follow.

Spot on!!! Exactly my thoughts. He is winning because this is Nigeria. Those that are supposed to take care of this situation have all been bought. He will now leave them at the mercy of nannies. Most Children raised by these greedy Single Mothers who have driven the fathers away, (their only desire is the child support the father pays them) end up under-achieving in life, if they dont end up in jail on or before their 21st birthday, the Prison demography statistics are there to prove this.

I don't support paternity frauds, and no woman can be forced into paternity frauds. Everyone who's done that did it deliberately. Even if they had 2 boyfriends, they knew the child could've have been for anyone of them.
But most of the men who abandoned their pregnant gals and come back years later to lay claim to such kids only do it because the kid has a new father.
They might not have bothered if the mum never married, because the child won't have a father figure in his life and can easily come look for the father in future, and even possibly take care of the so called father.
But if the child already has a present father in his life (albeit a non biological father), the chances of such a child looking for the so called biological father is almost non existent

Ladies and paternity lies. I just discovered my brother had an 8 year old baby outside and worst still the gf had given the baby to her hubby. She's begging we don't show up now pending when she has figured out her next move should her hubby, who thinks the child is his, throws her out. She said we should give her time and I'm here wondering how disappointed her hubby would be when we finally show up for the baby.
