Jobs/VacanciesGlory Osei & Muyiwa Saga - Some Take Home Lessons by Brightgem(op): 11:04am On Oct 22, 2019
Woke up to a message from a friend telling me to check out a trending topic trending on twitter around a name, Glory Osei. He’d wanted me to see it and had related it to somewhere we had both works, but I and I also didn’t hurry there as twitter isn’t one of my top go-to social media platform. But as the day rolled by, I started seeing bits of the topic here and there and I had to go look. There was really a lot to digest, the painful to read, the funny and the out rightly ridiculous.

From the Glory Osei & Muyiwa saga, here are some take home lessons from the saga.

THAT SOME STILL SUFFER STOCKHOLM SYNDROME

One young writer of 20 shared how he left his former city of residence and moved to Lagos. Rented an apartment, was happy to work for said Muyiwa, basically worshiped him and looked for his approval, yet young dude got sacked 3 months later. This drove him into depression, he returned home a battered person. Yet he still called Muyiwa his Idol. Guy abeg, you can’t still be attached your abuser, that’s Stockholm syndrome.

THAT YOUR CUP WILL OVERFLOW ONE DAY

You may continue to wallow in that wrong doing, thinking you’ll continue to get away with it, but not forever. Suddenly everyone woke up to a trending topic, and that could be you. You could trend for a bad or good thing, it’s up to you. Keep abusing someone in private, abusing the rights of people, whatever it is your cup does get full.

THAT WE DEFINITELY NEED BETTER LABOUR LAWS IN NIGERIA

How can 90% of working conditions and terms in this country be so ridiculous? How can abusers in high places, who say they are bosses or employers, keep getting away with evil? We need so many laws to correct many anomalies in our society, laws that are actually implemented against erring persons.

THAT NAIRALAND IS HERE FOR YOU, BUT LOVE OF OTHER SOCIAL MEDIA WILL NOT LET YOU SHINE

It is indeed true that there is hardly any topic in the Nigerian context that has not been posted at a time or the other on Nairaland, one of the things that’s important to do is research a company that will likely give you employment. Adding Nairaland to your Google search will lead you to finding threads where the said company must have been discussed. The OseiMuyiwa tactics had been apparently discussed on Nairaland, but many would have still fallen into the trap from not being aware.

THAT YOUTHS ARE INDEED GOING THROUGH HELL IN THE NAME OF JOB SEARCH

The experiences shared and being shared daily is just sad, how can you be blessed enough to employ people, yet chose to exploit them, abuse them, destroy them, give them hope and snatch it right back, for no good reasons. Why should I be employed as a front desk officer and still go to your house to cook fried rice, and teach your kids lesson? So many ridiculous things. The government is not only the problem, we are our own problem.

THAT WE NEED MORE NAMING AND SHAMING

Name and shame that leader in your area that’s an unrepentant exploiter, name and shame the corrupt politicians, name and shame the rapist, the pedophile, the bad boss, the bad employee, after all some employees too are from hell, let’s keep up with the naming and shaming, maybe one day we will come to know the majority who are not worth our time.

DON’T BE THIRSTY FOR JUST ANYTHING

Stay in your house and don’t take that shitty job, or it will make you a more broken person than before you took the job. Because the truth is, irrespective of all that has been said of this couple, someone somewhere is getting ready to take their job. Being thirsty for just anything is exactly how you get poisoned.

THAT LIKE PEOPLE ATTRACT THEMSELVES

How can two people how are a couple become famous for being scammers, deceivers and oppressive employers? How do they live with themselves? Answer is because they are birds of a feather.

THAT MANY PEOPLE CONTRADICT THE MESSAGES THEY PREACH

How and why should we find a religious leader involved in corrupt acts? They are contradicting what they preach. Why are so called radical feminists very far form their own messages? How can someone who is famous in the public space for being a fighter of the right of others be the same person who oppresses his own employers? People sometimes pass a message not because it is from their inner person or actual passion, but because it is an act that sells, it is convenient at the time and for some they corrupted along the line. The do not learn to live above their demons.

We are not sure Glory Osei & Muyiwa will turn a new leaf or can even be bothered to, some people are set in their greedy, selfish and wicked ways, nothing changes them, we can only hope youths do not keep falling into the hands of exploiters.

Politics10 Exceptional Leaders In History by Brightgem(op): 4:47pm On Oct 14, 2019
The most crucial and the most important time for a leader to show their true worth is in the face of adversity. These great people mentioned below not only influenced their followers in a positive light, but stuck to their values even in the face of adversity. They all possess certain moral values ranging from selflessness, sacrificing for their people, corrupt free attitude and exceptional kindness, exceptional will among others.

In no particular order, I present to you 10 exceptional leaders in history.

Abraham Lincoln (Feb 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) Man who saw his own Death

Though his reign as the 16th president of the United States of America was war riddled, that didn’t change the morality and selfless nature of this great leader.

At a point where slave trade was at its peak in the country, Abraham Lincoln fought to abolish slavery, knowing that it would be more beneficial to the people he was serving in the long run, even if they did not realize it at that time.

Abraham Lincoln was the war commander during the civil war. He had to make many hard decisions, none of which he took personally. This shows Lincoln’s selfless personality, he didn’t care about how much he hates the other side, he didn’t take it personally. He didn’t want to win the war because of the pain it put him in. He wanted to win because he believed that the union needed to be preserved.

Lincoln devoted his whole life doing what is best for people, which is why he is still remembered as one of the greatest American leaders in history.

Lincoln used to dream a lot and is said to have had a premonition of his own death in the following account – According to the tale, just a few days before his assassination on April 14, 1865, Lincoln shared a recent dream with a small group that included his wife, Mary Todd, and Lamon. In it, he walked into the East Room of the White House to find a covered corpse guarded by soldiers and surrounded by a crowd of mourners. When Lincoln asked one of the soldiers who had died, the soldier replied, “The president. He was killed by an assassin.”

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (2 Oct, 1869 – 30 Jan, 1948) The non-violent leader who always wore simple shawls to boycott foreign clothes.

You probably know him as Mahatma Gandhi, but his name was never Mahatma, it was Mohandas.

Mahatma means “great – souled one” and was what people called him, which he was never comfortable with. This name alone goes a long way to show what sort of person this great leader was.

The leader of India’s independence movement in British ruled India, achieved remarkable feats through a form of non-violent civil disobedience that would later inspire millions around the world.

There are many characteristics that Gandhi had that made him an exceptional leader, but there are two that stick out: his ability to lead by example and his persistence.

Gandhi is a famous leader of the non-violence movement. He followed the religious principle “ahisma” (doing no harm) that was common to Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.

When it came to personal possessions, unlike today’s leaders, Gandhi had the barest minimum and was still able to successfully fight for his country. He wore a cotton cloth called a dhoti, a shawl and a simple watch and glasses. Dhotis and shawls are usually worn by the poorest of people. He wore this to boycott foreign clothes and represent the millions of people living in India at the time.

In August 1947, Britain granted India independence, due to much pressure from the likes of Mahatma Gandhi.

After independence, Gandhi tried to stop the Hindu-Muslim conflict in Bengal a policy which led to his assassination in Delhi by a Hindu fanatic.

“Be the change you want to see in the world” -Mahatma Gandhi

Thomas Isidore Noël Sankara (21 December 1949 – 15 October 1987) The man who re-named his country “Land for Upright Men”

He was the leader of Burkina Faso’s revolutionary government from 1983 to 1987. To embody the new autonomy and rebirth, he renamed the country, changing from “Upper Volta” to “Burkina Faso”, which means “Land of Upright Men”.

As far as African leadership goes, Thomas Sankara was cut from a different piece of cloth. In his short life, the charismatic military leader set about creating an enduring legacy for conscious African citizens that is more relevant today than ever before. Progressive forces fighting economic domination and ideological slavery of Africa can draw inspiration from Sankara’s life journey.

Sankara came to power on August 4th 1983 through a popular revolution at the age of 33. In the four years that ensured, he embarked on a revolutionary paradigm shift, bringing real power down to the people, advocating for policies on African self-reliance, food security, gender parity and the dismantling of the neo-colonial development structure that continues to render African states beholden to foreign masters for survival. His solidarity and sincere commitment to the plight of all suffering people, irrespective of their location in the world is why Sankara is fondly referred to as Africa’s “Che Gueverra”. The Burkinabe revolution remains a relevant ideological model in Africa for raising mass consciousness and battling poverty.

Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) Was deaf and blind, but rose high.

The name Helen Keller is known around the world as a symbol of courage in the face of overwhelming odds, yet she was much more than a symbol. She was a woman of luminous intelligence, high ambition and great accomplishment who devoted her life to helping others.

Helen Keller was a girl from a small Alabama town who due to an illness lost her sight and hearing before she was two years old. Yet she became an internationally known lecturer, an author of more than ten books and a powerful advocate for the rights of the physically disabled. She received the presidential Medal of Freedom and her book the story of my life is still available in over fifty languages.

She remains one of the most famous disabled persons who had a strong will and went on to achieve a lot. The Indian Movie BLACK is a somewhat a replica of Helen Keller’s life.

Love you dear writer of this post. We keep failing to see the importance of speaking and acting against evil. Instead we say stupid things and play pity party. We are the ones who help evil thrive. Many have idolized human beings who look like Pastors, Imams, Godfathers, Politicians.

Rape is corruption. Rape is Moral Decadence. For some people's insensitive stance on this matter even those I call friends I have yanked of relations.

@ op

when talking about abortion pls don't forget to include:

Rape victims

Women who are at health risk due to their pregnancies

Along with pregnant women whose babies have abnormalities that would drain the parents financially and emotionally if they survive.
Don't take it so personal (the mumu part) as for your other points. Full video if you watched it acknowledged this existing circumstance. Hence this is about those who are adults, who make a firm resolve to have sex and a child has to die over their laxity

Lolz! But not all women. Some keep their pregnancies. Also, we must remember, women do not impregnate themselves, men are responsible, men tell her to get rid of it too, most times.

Scaremongering and demonizing sex is not an effective way to reduce abortion. Preaching and insisting on abstinence will never work. People will always have sex, sex is natural. The only effective way is to preach safe sex. Effective in reducing STDs and unwanted pregnancies.
Even the preachers of safe sex back then as I recall in secondary school when HIV was all over the place would end with "Abstinence is best". It is not about scaremongering, it is the path intended to pass the message and everyone has what they believe in.

Sex is now so cheap it is like purchasing bread!
Ladies having multiple abortions for multiple men!
Unmarried partners cohabiting!
Playboys thinking they are the bomb while they father many dead children known and unknown!

I expect silly questions like Are you a saint? Are you a virgin? Don't judge and all those cliche questions the morally heedless love to ask to make themselves feel better.

A child should not pay the price for your behavior. Babies terminated in a gruesome manner. They didn't ask anyone to indulge in sexual laxity and bring them to life. If you thought and think abortion is no big deal, maybe this could help you think. Maybe this would help you close your legs, maybe this would help you remember that you could also die

Maybe this could help you understand that the skull of a baby is crushed to get it out of you...

Maybe. Many will remain heedless but some will listen.

Have a good view of what really goes on when you abort a baby you took in for a few minutes of pleasure. Before you come attacking, make sure you have watched the full video.

Agree with most, disagree on these two.

”self defense will reduce rapes” NO. Parents should teach their children to respect other people’s bodies, they aren’t entitled to them. They should be taught No means No and to speak up when they see evil.

Using God as a threat to teach children to be good is not ideal. What happens when the child grows up to be an atheist?
Agreed. It's another point to add to this post, that children should be taught to respect other people's bodies, but we all already know that even though rules are created people disobey, so there will always be rebels.

What happens if your teenage female daughter knows some self defence techniques and is able to defend herself from rape. That's a plus, for her, her parents and society. That's one person not damaged by rape.

This post never said use God as a threat, but as an extra instruction of obedience. Of course this isn't for those who say they don't believe in God. The majority still do, besides the post already points to the fact that even with the right training kids as adults will still choose their parts. But a solid foundation is necessary through the right parenting.

FamilyMorally Bankrupt Kids – How To Avoid Raising Them by Brightgem(op): 3:33pm On Sep 26, 2019
The home is a foundation on which a lot of things about an individual’s life stands. Often times an ill-mannered person is asked the question “who raised you?”

By observation, one can say that kids who did not have present and active parents in their lives often times than not have a twisted kind of life.

Parenting is guidance, parenting is support, parenting is devotion, it’s a whole lot of things. With the kind of adults we see these days I believe there is such a thing as dangerous parenting.

So what are some tips parents can employ to avoid raising morally bankrupt kids?

THE CONTENT IN OUR HOMES

In this digital age, what content are kids being exposed to right in the homes? I recall a friend’s annoyance at seeing his nieces and nephews watching the famous Big Brother Naija with their mum. This is a show that many adults don’t even see the need to watch as it barely has anything of value to offer and showcases ill-behaved persons and immoral acts, yet a mother didn’t deem it wrong to watch this along with her kids.

Some leave adult movies lying around carelessly, some do not check what content their kids are watching. A conscious and responsible parent should see and screen the content in form of movies, cartoons and the likes they intend for viewing by their kids to avoid exposure to the wrong content their little minds cannot understand.

TEACHING THEM RED FLAGS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN PEOPLE

It’s not okay for a parent to feel uncomfortable discussing what they think are intimate issues with their kids. In this increasingly perverted world, kids need to be taught what “private parts” mean. It is for you as an individual to protect so that no one violates your body, kids should be made to understand this fact. There are too many damaged adults who were not protected from sexual harassment as children, because these kids didn’t even know what harassment or abuse was.

Kids should be taught to stop adults from calling them things like “my wife” or “my husband” by making it clear to persons who refer to them as such that their parents have said it’s inappropriate. Kids should be taught to clean and bathe themselves early enough to reduce the chances or need to have others do this for them, as this is often the periods where sexual abuse spring from. Kids should be taught when a seeming play from an adult or fellow child is crossing the line, either crossing the line verbally or physically.

BASIC COURTESY AND MANNERS

A child taught properly and given guidance shows good manners. Kids should be taught to greet their peers and adults alike. They should be taught to clean after themselves as it makes them more responsible at an early age. They should be taught table manners, taught to thank their parents or providers after a meal, after a gift or after a service rendered them. This teaches them gratefulness rather than entitlement, which is a problem with many adults in today’s world.

REWARD FOR GOOD DEEDS & PUNISHMENT FOR BAD ACTIONS

Some parents accept and condone all behaviors their kids’ exhibit. So much that onlookers or strangers get irritated and annoyed when a kid is not disciplined. Good deeds should be acknowledged and rewarded by parents, if not rewarded all the time to avoid a kid thinking they must always get rewarded, then a good deed must always be acknowledged as good, this spurs a child to aspire for even more good.

Same goes for wrong doing, a child that gets away with wrong doing all the time is going to be a very irresponsible adult that never sees the wrong in their actions, no matter how much you try to make them see it.

RULES AND HOME TRAINING ARE NOT FOR GIRLS ALONE

This picture below is self-explanatory on this point, too many parents focus more or solely on their female children. Wrong!

MORE KIDS NEED TO LEARN SELF DEFENSE

Since the dangers around us in society is increasing, it’s a good idea to teach kids self-defense at an early age. They can attend karate or taekwondo classes. This they can keep learning into teenage hood. There would be lesser female victims of rape if self-defense is learned by the majority especially at an early age.

UNDERSTAND THE DEITY CALLED GOD

The homes scream religion but lack God Consciousness. A child that understands obedience to God will respect and obey their parents either in their presence or in their absence.

Too many homes now also pay attention to materialism rather than values. Good values are being lost every day. Teach children early in life the cost of good and evil, the reward with God for good and the punishment with God for evil and prohibited acts. Kids who understand that beyond this life is another life and we will give account to God.

Parenting is tough, and in the end individuals have the responsibility of deciding what they make of their lives as adults. However it is very important to have this solid foundation. Just as life is unpredictable, anything could happen and parents sometimes die and leave their kids behind, the lessons taught these kids. The voices of their parents is what remains with them for a long time to come.

HealthHe Wasn’t Evil! Something Was Causing His Depression And Suicidal Thoughts by Brightgem(op): 10:50am On Sep 10, 2019
READ TILL THE END

This is a story that can be an eye opener to helping us understand that beyond the general causes of suicidal or depressing thoughts, something biological and physical could be the cause of the problem.

It's World Suicide Prevention Day. In Naija, we are quick to joke about depression and suicide saying things like, you are not depressed, you are just broke, and alert will cure your depression and all those things we say.

However, if we look closely, Suicide is really a growing problem that we are seeing happening in our society every day. It is no longer a white man’s problem.

While for some, they really have underlying serious issues leading them to be suicidal, such as extreme hardship, difficulties, an inability to handle negative events, or other major life trauma they had experienced at some point, there could be many also who have passed away on account of what really ailed them never being discovered as you will learn from this short story.

I saw this shared on social media sometime back, over 2 years now, and the story amazed me. So since it’s World Suicide Prevention Day, it is a good time to share with others.

So this teenage boy, let’s call him Ranjeet was living away from India with his mother. He suddenly started exhibiting weird behavior in school and at home, he was hardly smiling anymore, he would draw images of him killing himself or killing others, his bevaiour became so troubling that his mother was terribly worried, she called his uncle who was a doctor living in a different country, the uncle suggested hospital visits. The usual anti-depressants were administered, yet no improvements. He wasn’t even smiling anymore.

The uncle kept getting a nagging intuition to ask his nephew have his brain scanned, and he decided to suggest so, he asked Ranjeet’s mother to get a brain scan for him.

THE RESULT?

Ranjeet had a tumor growing in the part of his brain where emotions that were positive, that had to do with joy , laughter etc was. The tumor had almost covered that entire part of his brain. So that was the problem . He wasn’t just evil, something was causing his depression and suicidal thoughts.

His uncle searched for a doctor who would be willing to perform a surgery on his nephew, many turned it down saying it was complex, but when the case came before a well-known neurosurgeon, he was ready to do the surgery.

Long story short, Ranjeets uncle was present for the surgery, it was a success and when Ranjeet opened his eyes for the first time after the surgery and saw his mother and uncle, he smiled! Something they hadn’t seen him do in a while.

Tumor gone, depression and suicidal thoughts gone.

In summary, in a country like Nigeria, we might have resorted to fasting and prayer. Resorted to believing he is possessed by an evil spirit or that he is just a bad child.

This story in particular is quite amazing at it reveals something beyond the ordinary.

Well, we keep learning every day. Source www.themoralcodeng.com

Can we stop the growing menace of suicide? Shouldn't successful people slash celebrities sometimes share their journeys as the share their big mansions, flashy cars and more with their fans? At least to save the weak minded. Please watch the latest video from THE MORAL CODE still on this suicide matter, titled BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR LIFE! LISTEN! Which addresses these questions.

Pity, See the picture below and hopefully it will help some on the path to having more sense. Society is already dysfuctional and yet we are adding this baby mama and paapa problem. so? When the head is problematic, the body will follow. Hoping that someday we would have a better crop of leaders, who are indeed role models. He appears to be one, and the headline is kind of misleading. Fact is when you make your money the right way, you leave freely and happily.

PoliticsNigeria’s 2019 Presidential Election – A Postmortem Analysis by Brightgem(op):
The Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD on the 29th of August 2019 released a report on Nigeria's 2019 elections, titled COUNTING THE VOTES: WARD-LEVEL COLLATION DURING NIGERIA’S 2019 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION – A POSTMORTEM ANALYSIS.

What were some of the Collation Problem hotspots?

What causes ward level collation problems?

Was there deliberate denial of access to observers and media?

What were some logistical shortfalls?

Was there Intentional disruption by politicians,
political thugs and party agents?

These and more is addressed in this report, and some solutions proffered. You can read more by following this link https://www.cddwestafrica.org/counting-votes-ward-level-collation-nigerias-2019-presidential-election/

BACKGROUND
The collation of results has been a much-exploited weakness in Nigeria’s election process, since the country’s return to democratic civilian rule in May 1999. Collation is the process by which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) aggregates and tabulates polling unit-level results via a multi-layered process, starting from the ward level, through the local government and state levels, to the federal level at the INEC national headquarters.

The integrity of this collation process is fundamental to the overall success and credibility of Nigerian elections. If conducted in a transparently organised and well-regulated way, collation will produce credible election results and boost voter confidence in the process. In the 2019 elections, however, civil society observers all across Nigeria saw a collation process that was chaotic, vulnerable to manipulation and, in some locations, violently disrupted and unnecessarily opaque.
The documentary evidences that informed the in-depth analysis in this report were gathered from the INEC accredited 8,809 observers CDD and its partners deployed during the 2019 elections. In addition, the Zabe SR (software) was further used in collecting data during the elections. Other sources of data include from CDD partners across the civil society organizations and the media, and also from the outputs from CDD Election Analysis Centre.”

THE CULTURAL, ECONOMIC, LEGAL AND POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT AFFECTING COLLATION OF RESULTS
Although this report is about the collation of results during the 2019 general elections, it is important not to isolate the collation process from the broader cultural, economic, legal and political environment for the conduct of elections in the country. The violence, disruptions, and compromised collation of election results detailed in this report is symptomatic and should be understood in the general context of the typical do-or-die, zero-sum approach to political and electoral competition in Nigeria, the deepening poverty and infrastructure deficits in the country, and the culture of political and legal impunity it has tended to encourage and even reward. While the highlighted challenges that constraint INEC for conducting credible elections is acknowledged, the electoral umpire cannot be totally exonerated being a major stakeholder in the country’s electoral system. How logistic arrangements are made during elections, interactions with stakeholders are coordinated, amongst other mandates of INEC, could create a very tensed atmosphere that discourages conduct of credible elections. Nevertheless, the burden to finding lasting solution to challenges bedeviling elections in Nigeria lies with all the actors including INEC, citizens, political parties, civil society organisations, the media, security agencies etc. All stakeholders must work collaboratively to re-define our socio-political and economic environment. This is a major message from this report.
