EducationRe: Courses That Should Be Avoided By Nigerians From Poor Families. by careidon: 3:23pm On Jun 30, 2021
Op's point is, poor background and some courses....
Let's stay on that premise. Nigeria(ns) is the problem, not any particular course.

But another angle I want us to look at is that most Nigerians don't value and or can't afford the professionals is one of the reasons those professionals are lagging (I didn't say they are not coping o)
The government is the top employer of medical professionals (because setting up a standard private practice is expensive = their salary in dollar terms vs structure & equipments they need dollars to buy is indeed peanuts)
We mostly go to the pharmacy first before visiting the doctor!
So for all the effort involved in their qualifications, how many doctors are at par with our bank owners, Corporate owners or govt contractors?

We stopped valuing teachers like in the 1960-80s (but see where it has gotten us)
How many of us go to architects to design for us?
How many built their homes or other structures using civil engineers?

We impoverish these professionals...

Apart from climate control gadgets, wastes goes thru the meshed flooring; water is automated & therefore always delivered clean; feeding wastage is minimised; farrowing crates to ensure the piglets survive after delivery = this is modern (maybe not ultra...)

CrimeRe: How Do Scammers Get Our Correct Details? by careidon: 12:35am On May 27, 2021
Most folks are overlooking the easiest and obvious "weak point"
Am referring to
1. the useless hardcover register the banks keep openly for us to record what they could keep electronically!
2. Am not sure if they shred their waste as a policy too. Have seen cleaners move papers that should have been shredded many times.

See, some people make the their honey pot to mine data.
A friend came back from just collecting a new ATM card and was wondering how a number not linked to his account was used to reach him, till I pointed out the register thing to him...

LET'S INSIST THE BANKS REMOVE IT FROM WHERE THEY KEEP IT OPENNED.
NYSCRe: NYSC Not A Waste Of Time, Says DG by careidon:
Prophetdoctor:
A lot of people have benefited from this scheme. Although, I have ugly stories I would tell about about people that I know who have suffered or lost their destinies through this scheme, but it's mostly their fault.

NYSC is not a waste of time. Many have met their destiny helpers at their PPA. My sister is happily married to a Yoruba man she met at Ogun State during her NYSC days. The husband is now working as a Lab. scientist at UI, Ibadan. My father through the help of God did his NYSC at CBN. He played his cards well. He was retained after his program. He worked and retired there as a Executive. Our last born is currently doing his NYSC at MINT. We are hoping they will retain him next year.

The advantages outweigh the disadvantages. NYSC should not be scrapped.
@bolded.
Pls don't use such words against the unlucky others.
1. I'd ask the rep/senator in favour, how many of the dead corpers' family he personally has visited & what was done for/to them (I rem those slaughtered during elections riot especially)
2. From your "knowing how to play games" narrative; how many of these reps/senators allow their wards/children go to where posted without "influencing" postings or changes?
3. What's being done to stop corruption & contract racquet in the service scheme?
4. If we are not scrapping, what do we infuse as a nation into scheme?
5. What real data do we have of this scheme taking so much funds = kits, feeding, transport, allawee, staff salary, their pensions, office maintenance etc? How many got jobs or are retained? How many got married thru it?
Can we not do skills acquisition and give 500k to each to go start up without looking for jobs (with incentive to partner with others to start up biz)

Can this same rep/senator travel unguarded to any part of this country like he expects others children?

We need to go back to a Nigeria where you don't have to influence anything and there's equal, fair and just opportunities, where ALL respects the postings; where there's security; where host communities truly welcome as in the past; where employers of labour are not just taking advantage of available cheap labour... else there's truly weak arguments for continuing this program.

PhonesRe: Econet Begins Construction Of $100m Data Centre In Lagos by careidon:
Most need to find out what really happened to Econet

Below is the guy's story...

"I had the privilege of making Nigeria’s first GSM phone call back in 2001 when I called the regulator to say, “We’re live!” Who would’ve believed then that Nigeria today would have more than 167 million mobile phones?!

It all started out as a very exciting new chapter for enterprise in Africa. Shortly after President Obasanjo was elected, the new government announced an incredibly transparent international auction process for three national mobile phone licenses.

To participate in the bid, you not only had to raise money, but there had to be a member of the bidding consortium who was an experienced GSM operator. Econet Wireless met the requirements because of its experience in Zimbabwe and Botswana. Our Nigerian partners, which included state governments, local banks and high net worth individuals, were financial investors. The largest shareholder had only 10%. That was the written agreement.

I managed to assemble a consortium of 22 investors to put up the money needed to bid. Our shareholders were all Nigerian, mostly institutional investors including leading banks and two state governments, Lagos State and Delta State. The license cost us $285m and was the most expensive license ever issued in Africa at the time. This was 2001.

We considered the investment not only about putting together a network, but also about building a nation. We knew it had the potential to transform Nigeria’s entire business and social architecture.

Most of our investors had between 1-10% shareholding. Econet Wireless Nigeria had only 5% of the shares, but that was fine because it was 5% ownership of a very big pie.

As the “technical partner and operator,” Econet was the company with the expertise to build and operate such a business. Our financial investors recognised this, and also allowed us to receive 3% of the turnover as our fees. This was standard practice in the industry.

We were one of the winning bidders and they gave us just six months to set up business and get our network operating. We were under a lot of pressure but our network was live two days before the others! Customers were pouring in. We were number one in the market with an estimated 57% market share.

___Then came the fateful day when I was told that our company must pay a total of $9m in bribes to senior politicians (in state government) who had facilitated the raising of the money to pay for the license.

I refused to authorise the illegal payments. Meeting after meeting was held to try to get me to agree, but I would not. The money would not be paid as long as Econet was the operator and I had signing authority.

James Ibori, the Governor of Delta State, was demanding $4,5m be paid to him in his personal capacity. He was one of the most powerful men in the country and had a reputation for violence. When he heard that I was refusing to approve payment he issued an ultimatum:

___”Pay or I will chase you and your people out of the country.”

I refused.

The shareholders met and voted Econet Wireless Nigeria out of management. They cancelled our management contract. James Ibori and his colleagues personally attended the meeting to remove us. After the meeting one of them (a prominent local businessman even today) came up to me and said: “Unfortunately for you, God does not have a vote.”

I had to withdraw all my staff and their families: 200 people in all. We left Nigeria.

Most of our people had to be retrenched. The loss of the contract almost drove us to bankruptcy as a group.

They invited a big international operator to replace us as technical partner and operator. They changed the name of the company from Econet to V-Mobile.

Within days of their arrival, the managers of the new operator signed off the payments demanded as bribes.

Then what happened?

A few noble Nigerians had both the integrity and courage to carefully collect all the documentation on the movement of the money, and pass it all on to me.

___There’s a saying worth remembering in uncovering the trail of destruction that is corruption: “Follow the money”…

I bided my time… then I wrote a letter to the United States Department of Justice!

It was 2003."

To be continued…"

Numbers of schools set up from scratch (not refurbished)
Tertiary institutions
Housing estates (Ajoda New Town etc)

EDUCATION (genuine education - tuition, pencils, pens, text books, exercise books, school buses etc)

See, no governor has ever beaten LKJakande in achievement along similar lines outlined above, he did just 1 four year term too . Not even Ige that I mentioned above for Oyo State compares.

BusinessRe: Oil Production: $4 Per Barrel In Saudi Arabia, $3 In Russia, $21.2 In Nigeria by careidon: 1:06am On Jun 04, 2020
The costs are unjustified whatever the reason(s)

The costs are for what?
Clearing our reasoning
1. even if we dig deeper for our oil, its a one-time thing. They don't drill for ever just like you don't for water! No
1b. You complete the well, start producing & monitor the production.
2. We have mostly natural gas-lift wells (compared with countries that need steam injection to force the oil out. Yet they produce cheaper than us! Why?)
3. The costs (renting rigs, vessels, PSVs etc) are standard all over the world but ours are interesting and opaque.
3b. What have we ever done to reduce the costs (why hiring vessels forever? Why not build our acquire rigs outright than rent - Google rig rentals and what we could have owned in over 50 years)
Foreign security, why not re-train units of police/navy/army/whatever specially for same? Why not remove what causes the insecurity - politics, empowerment?
4. We truly over inflate projects from the start (check out the cost of our best oil & gas project- the NLNG and compare similar sized projects built almost around the same time)
5. I don't understand why these IOCs make the most of their worldwide operations money in or from Nigeria despite these claimed high costs or difficulties (telecoms guys are another unlinked reference/analogy, I agree. But try reason am) Unlike telecoms they can't claim it's our huge population, as we don't drink the oil. But we know we are being cheated compared to what's on offer other elsewhere. Like DSTV programs content.
6. For educative reasons let's compile costs
Direct & Indirect that relates to production & not drilling or prospecting. That's what the silly legislators should have done.

Common, engineer. Learn from those who understand physics, speed, weight and impact.

How many trucks then?
Where are the parts?

What of witnesses?
Please look closely at the blue colored rocks in the pictures - only if those standerbys know the treasure in front of them!!!

Oga Professor, I disagree vehemently!!!

I am a Mining Engineer by study and by profession by God's Grace. I can categorically confirm that commercial explosives were being conveyed from an explosive company in the South west to a quarry in the South south. EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) officers of the Nigeria Police were escorting the said explosives. The explosives detonated because the truck went in flames, according to report. Whether that cause is true or not is another case entirely. The one true fact is that "EXPLOSIVES IN A TRUCK DETONATED". The impact of the explosion is what you saw, while some witnessed ground vibration, air blast and noise.

For those that want to believe Mr Professor, try to check online videos of blasting done in quarries to know what explosives can do to rocks.

Check this video to understand the power of explosives.

In addition, some people said it was a bomb. Bomb explosives are different from commercial explosives. You would notice that there was no trace of fire or burn on and around the location.

PoliticsRe: NERC Bars Discos From Billing Unmetered Residents Above N1800 by careidon: 7:30pm On Feb 26, 2020
The DISCOs bought terrible bad debts from FG.

Now their strategy is to collect these fictitious debts from present occupiers. But most were owed by dead landlords, tenants that have moved out long ago etc. Most were from NEPA's staff collecting bribes from tenants or not doing their jobs properly! - ie going for meter readings OR settling complaints over genuine inflated bills)
They should have removed the debts; allow another special purpose company collect the debts; pay the FG and they start afresh.
Lots of biz owners make same mistake (buying lemons) with no reprieve from FG or anywhere.

oz4real83:
Will customers also pay the N1,800 any month there wasn't electricity? I don't know what is so difficult with forcing discos to give prepaid meters. If there are no meters, don't bill anything. Let the discos be at loss with their inability to provide prepaid meters.
