I don't blame our pastors Sha, they understand our people very well and know what they want to hear.
Jesus Christ came to save man from our sins. Jesus did not come to give money, husband, children, jobs etc. To acheive any of those things you have to work. The Bible says by the sweat of your brow you shall eat.

These charlatan pastors prey on the gullibility of Africans and the fact that we don’t like to engage our brains. We do not like to read. Read the Bible yourself! Instead most focus on verses from the Bible that the pastors use to manipulate them.

The redeemed Christian church and all these other Pentecostal churches have done a lot of damage to Nigerian psyche.

DNA and genotype do not change. Genetic mutations are extremely rare. About 4 or 5 people have given testimonies about different test results including yourself. In a thread of 5 pages, probably less than 100 people, that is not what you call rare. Therefore something else is responsible for the different test results. Do you know what it takes to have a genetic mutation? It means exposure to things like radiation. If you have been exposed to radiation such that your DNA has mutated, your problem is more than your blood type.

Put on your thinking caps. The most likely scenario is you have been conducting your tests at quack labs. The truth is most Nigerians cannot afford to go to reputable medical labs. In a country where everything is faked, equipment is substandard and staff are not qualified, what makes you think, the lab and the lab attendant you went to are qualified and have proper equipment or proper test procedures?

You are on point with your assertion, these brands have never been up and doing since there Inception into the Nigerian Market, the said OMO isn't even foamy, never liked it when growing up, thank God klin and Ariel came to my rescue as regards washing of clothes back then, OMO was nothing to write home about, they were living on the premise that they own Nigeria as you have joined, Unilever brothers, and as such could dish out substandard product to the market, that was one of their biggest undoings..
These has got nothing to do with the economy, they simply can't compete with the new cats in town, Dangote noodles too had to pack up for the big boys within that sector, the competition is strive.
Unilever a company whose history can be traced to the existence of Nigeria, a company that is responsible for the colonization of Nigeria, a company without whom there would be no Nigeria, a company that was the original exploiters of the natural resources of Nigeria , a company that was the top non-oil company on the stock exchange when I was growing up is worth less than $100m while it’s sister company UAC is worth less than $45m in a country with a GDP of $500Billion and a population of 200m more than a century after they started operations says everything about the real issues with Unilever and it’s legacy companies. There are apartment complexes in ikoyi that are worth more than Unilever.

When you hear stories of the ijebu wars or the Benin war, it was because of Unilever o! That Calabar was once capital of Nigeria was because of Unilever. southern protectorate, existed because of Unilever. Sapele port is because of Unilever. Our history is so intertwined with Unilever that it has no business being a company worth less than Dangote at the very least.

When I was growing up the chairmen of Unilever and UAC (Shonekan) were the captains of industry. They were the Dangote’s, the Elumelu’s and Otedola of that era. I am sure nobody here knows the chairman of Unilver or UAC unless you google it…telling you how insignificant they have become.

The irony is that palm oil as a raw material for Soap is what brought them to Nigeria in the 1st place centuries ago. Everything we have gone through as a country started with their quest for soap and now they can’t even compete in the soap market.

when i was young there were less than 10 soap brands, lux (which was horrible) joy, pears, tetmosol, imperial leather, palmolive and maybe 1 or 2 others....lux was the worst of all....all were preferable to lux. Similarly when it came to detergents, there were very few, Omo and 1 or 2 others, otherwise your option was key soap. If you left lux in a wet soap dish, the next day it would have developed a nasty smell.

Today there are hundreds of soaps. Unilever failed to adapt.

Unilever and its associated companies (UAC etc) should be the biggest company in Nigeria considering they (Royal Niger Company) once owned Nigeria (they had the royal charter for all commerce in Nigeria and they administered the territory on behalf of the British...they were the ones who sold Nigeria to the British) but in every sphere of operations in Nigeria they are laggards. From UAC, to Unilever, to CAPL to ATP to Mr Biggs etc, most of their associated companies are laggards. They failed to innovate, failed to keep pace. This has nothing to do with the economy. Unilever or lever brothers as it was called in those days is a laggard.

When I was young I hated their soaps (omo, keysoap and lux), we only used them because my uncle was a director, another was a senior manager and always sent us free cartons of soap so we had no choice. i never used my own money to buy lux or Omo. I have traumatic memories of my childhood having to use lux to bathe, i hated it that much.

Don't you think it is fraud related because I don't know why they would do such.

Back to your statement, that if you password your sim, mobile app, phone etc., they won't be able to blah blah blah.

I repeat keep kwayet.

Like I said earlier, if they had successfully gotten that ATM card for my account and created a pin for it, they would have done damage through it.

Now, I asked you did I share my pin?
Did I request for an ATM when I can't even remember using the ATM card linked to one of my accounts since I got it years ago?

His question is tactical that is why you can't answer it.

Let me reconstruct his question....
Knowing that customers didn't share their pins with anyone, how were those criminals able to breakthrough the security of the account?

From his question, the focus will be someone within the banking system.
If your phone is password protected and your sim is password protected they cannot get to your account. If your sim is not password protected they can hack your account. There was big publicity about this a fewyears ago that you should put a password on your sim card because yahoo boys can hack your account through your sim. there was even a video trending by a yahoo boy that was caught showing how they do it.

Failure to do that is not the bank's fault, its your negligence or/and ignorance so long as any fraud originates from your phone or sim card, its not the bank's problem..it is your failure to secure your phone.

protect your phone with a password, protect your sim with a pin. Anyone who tells you he lost his phone and they stole moiney from his account and he had done both of these is almost certainly lying. having your bank details on your phone and not knowing you should do these things is ignorance...hence my statement. you have a duty of care to yourself, you dont keep your gate open and complain about armed robbers and blame your landlord.

How I wish I can break this thing down to you....
You are coming back to some of my points and still somewhat drifting.

My underlying statement remains...

People can come from very terrible backgrounds and be good people.

Judging a person solely on his/ her background can be somewhat unjust to the fellow without first considering his own character.

Human beings are wired to easily discard people with terrible past/ background without considering their current position of a changed life.

Ex-communicating yourself from a family isn't an automatic red flag. You must find out why he/ she took such a decision...you would be shocked!

Finally, none of my statements said you could or should marry a toxic person. That's a disaster!

You are honestly moving around my thoughts but not plugged in.

See your earlier comment:
"You can’t run away from who you are. We are all toxic in our own ways. The difference between people who label their families toxic and others is that some learn to deal with it and keep their family problems in house others tell the whole world.

Like they say there are many mad men roaming the streets but you don’t know because they are all wearing suits."

Going through this and the one you posted above
"Next time you see a man or woman who has been abused by their parents or is from a toxic family, feel free to marry them and keep telling yourself they are not toxic but it was the environment……whatever you see you see."

You have arrived at a conclusion that everyone has experienced some toxicity growing up.
If so, how come people are getting married every day with all of these toxicity?

Isn't it suggestive to you that many people hide the pain and maybe never deal with it?

No matter the investigation you do about a family, toxic traits are usually regarded as human flaws in Nigeria..we say nobody is perfect. Expect for a few cases where the toxicity is too much....that marriage will hold sir.

Character is not difficult to change at 7 years old sir. That's an age that's still good for reshaping and remoulding. A mere 7 year old kid?
Even teenagers can be changed....

See, I am not saying there are no families with very toxic traits, my point here is the moment one member of that family decides to break free from the toxicity, he/ she must be ready to first cut off from the environment that formed that toxicity. SIMPLE.

It's also not entirely true that the chains of negative patterns in family don't break because the people are not strong. It doesn't break because they haven't found an environment where their strength is nurtured to overpower the toxicity.

See bro....make we just leave am here....
1. clearly you missed the part where I said there are different levels of toxicity. every family has there issues. There are some levels of issues or toxicity you dont want to be a part of. There is a former head of state who was alledged to have slept with his son's wife. why on earth would i allow myself of a family member to marry into that family?

2. The point here (and I say stick to the essence of this thread) is that a family is supposedly so toxic, the child has ex-communicated himself from his family...what more of a red flag do you need in life to know not to marry such a person?

3. You clearly do not understand human pyschology. The most important thing in life to change is character. it can be done and overcome but it takes constant effort and self awareness. In real life less than 10% of people will suceed. for me those are odds not worth the risk.

Like I said feel free to take the chance on a toxic person and let us know how you get on. Just dont come here writing stories about something you were warned against.

Go in search of Chimamanda Ngozi- Adichie's TED speech, the danger of a single story. Your perception is being coloured by your good childhood experiences. What an educated person with emotional intelligence does is to put his or herself in the other person's shoes. Just simply do that and imagine if it was you abandoned by a mother by the age of 2, imagine what your perception about love, life and parenthood would be. Feel another person's pain. If you do that, your speech/write-up will be with understanding and compassion. You will pick your words and present your opinions with consideration to who you are addressing. You have your preferences! Yes! You would also understand that the other fellow has a right to feel the way he feels. If you don't understand what I have just written, it means you are not emotionally intelligent and it's OK. Not everyone is.
I am not interested in being in your shoe, i am not here to save the world. i didnt create your problem if you come from a toxic home and I am not here to solve it, I am not a social worker. I am a parent, it takes a lot of sacrifice to raise children so they are not traumatised and damaged, we didnt sacrifice and endure so much to raise balanced children, so that our children can pick up the damage other irresponsible parents did to their children. No! Your toxic environment is unfortunate as you probably had no choice in the matter but is not my problem or that of my children to inherit!

Chiamanda herself is a product of a toxic environment....there are different types of toxicity. She is obviously scarred by the narrative of the war fed to her by her parents and she clearly has a problem with men and tradition. it manifests in everything she does. you cannot claim to be proudly Ibo on the one hand and be disrespecting the traditions on the other. This is why I talked about being careful the kind of people you put on a pedestal simply because they are succesful, many of them use their fame to project their pyschological damage.

The biggest problem in the world right now is wokism. This is where the minority abnormal are trying to dictate to the world that the abnormal is normal and cloak it in emotional language and manipulative words like emotional intelligence. Excuse me, again i ask, read the title of this thread. When did we lose our right to have standards or to choose the kind of people we marry? You are a man and want to call yourself a woman, that is your problem, but you cannot tell me what to call you because nature and science decides who is a woman and who is a man not you or your pyscholigical damage. The standards for whom I marry (i am already married) is defined not by your self acknowledged toxic environment (not you personally) but by the standards of my upbringing. nobosy has a right to manipulate anyone into accepting what they feel is not acceptable. particularly when it comes to marraige, your problem is not my problem to inherit. in marraige you want a partner who is an asset not a liability to you.

The problem with society today is many have gone against the norms of society and brought negative consequences upon themselves and then they try to vilify those who try to uphold and maintain some level of standards in the conduct of their lives!
Romance › Re: Would You Marry Someone Who Has Broken Ties With Their Parents? by casualobserver:

Let's start with the statement: 'You can't run away from who you are'

There's a difference between who you really are and who environment tries to make you.

The problem is: Do you really know who you are?
Toxicity isn't inborn. is it?

It's inherited from the environment. It's imposed and until one cuts it off, it will try to override someone.

When people label their families toxic and tell the world about it, know that:

They may have exhausted every known method of seeking resolution from their part to no avail.

They are fighting for survival

They are trying to cut off from the negativity to find themselves.

The reason some people don't share their families own is because they got help to heal from trauma or it could also be a coping mechanism while they die inside.

Still...you can't run away from who you are can only be true for one who has found himself outside of the negative influence of his/ her environment.

For others, they need to run from the imposed identity....RUN!!!
Oga keep arguing with yourself. Next time you see a man or woman who has been abused by their parents or is from a toxic family, feel free to marry them and keep telling yourself they are not toxic but it was the environment……whatever you see you see.

In Africa we say ancestral curses because we get headaches when we think. The truth is you only know what you know and by age 7 your character is formed and difficult to change. For instance, There is a reason single mothers beget single mothers. They don’t know otherwise. They don’t like being a single mother but they have no compass of a stable 2 parent household. There is a reason victims of abuse become abusers themselves…..abuse is what they know. The majority do not break the chain because the majority of humans are not strong. This is why the Pentecostal church has so many customers.

There is a reason we do introductions in Nigeria. There is a reason in yoruba land our parents ask “ile wi lo ti wa”. Which house/family did he/she come from when you want to marry. Even ordinary friends our parents as kids will tell us don’t play with that child…often for good reason. They knew what we didn’t know and which they could tell us because we were too young to understand.

Abeg leave me in peace.

Khusbu Sundar is a Hindu actress and politician.

Oprah Winfrey needs no introduction.

These are people who were raped by family members, one by her father, they didn't allow the experience to define them, they are still successful..
Elon Musk is not a moral beacon, rather a pragmatic beacon. Morality in African context is hypocrisy, so I don't give a hoot about it. Kenye West didn't suffer any emotional or psychological complications from his parents,at least, his mother was stood by him until her death. Any drug issue was his personal decision.

People who are victims have the ability to heal and become emotionally and physically healthy again. The rehabilitation center and therepy sessions are not for decoration. Most of them that manage the trauma well even live better in marriage than some people that grow up in a healthy home.

Like I said, don't mock a pain you haven't felt.
My friend how come Oprah has no children? Because she is damaged by her trauma. Nigerians should learn to debate by sticking to the debate. Please read the title of this thread. This is not about the victim of a toxic environment, this is about whether an outsider should emerse himself or herself into a relationship with someone who is a victim of a toxic environment.

People from toxic environments themselves become toxic whether they realize it or not. That toxicity can manifest in different ways, it may mean they channel their energies into their careers like Elon, it may mean they become degenerates, it may mean they are emotionally unavailable, it may mean they are emotionally needy and insecure. The bottom line is it is not possible for you to be a victim of true toxicity and be normal. So in staying on topic and answering the question posed by this thread, the answer is avoid such people. They are not normal because they can’t be normal.

The problem with many Nigerians is that you put the wrong sort of people and the wrong sort of mileposts as yardsticks for your lives. Flea had 27 wives, he was a drug user, he died of aids, he was however a world renowned and celebrated musical genius, so should I live my life like Fela and make him a role model? So stop being so obsessed with celebrity….most of hem are toxic!

BTW: I n response to your previous post, I just don’t pick up books and read simply because you are successful or a celebrity. I have no desire to read the story of Michelle Obama who is famous just for being a presidents wife. In the same way I have no interest in reading the biography of a drug user or a manic depressive irrespective of his successes, I don’t care that he is the richest man in the world at one time. I neither have a desire to be like him professionally or personally. I read autobiographies or biographies on people who inspire me both in their accomplishments and in the way they conduct themselves. Mandela, Awolow, Zik, Balewa, Warren Buffet, Dangote, Wenger, Alex Ferguson, Mourinho, but I have no desire to have any in-depth knowledge of the lives of the likes of Kanye, willsmith, Steve Harvey, Musk, Oprah etc because they do not represent anything I aspire to be or I respect especially in their personal lives.

So father who sexually molest or rape the daughter, you expect her to keep family problems in the house right? If you grow up in a healthy home, just thank God.

Don't mock a pain you haven't felt.

Even Elon Musk cut off his Dad at some point if you read his book.
Oga please rape and violence are extreme cases. In any event if you are a victim of rape and violence, you yourself have become toxic…like I said children of truly “toxic” families are themselves toxic and should be avoided. The question is should someone marry you in such circumstances, the answer is no! It is not your job to inherit others people’s problems.

As for Elon Musk. Please because someone has money or is successful career wise does not mean we should hold them up as a beacon of morality. Elon Musk is one of the most ffucked up people on earth. Kanye west is messed up, do you want to be like Kanye west? Please when you bring up examples of people, try not to bring up people with a history of drug abuse and mental breakdowns!

As much as I want to agree with all you have said, cutting off from toxicity is a way to heal from the damage. That way, the individual can revert back to a state that matches his/ her preferred identity.

This topic is very sensitive. It's all dependent on the level of toxicity. There are some toxic parent- children relationship where for the child to heal, he/ she has to cut off for a long time to allow the healing process.

For some less toxic, it could be cutting off for a short time and showing up once in a while.

For a toxic marriage, it's best to sit down to communicate this clearly. If there's no resolution, they can separate for sometime while submitting to a marriage mentor/ coach who can spot out the individual issues and tell each one what to work on before they come back together.

So, managing toxicity in some instances require staying away and it doesn't mean the person is bad. He/she is only trying to get out of the hurt.
You can’t run away from who you are. We are all toxic in our own ways. The difference between people who label their families toxic and others is that some learn to deal with it and keep their family problems in house others tell the whole world.

Like they say there are many mad men roaming the streets but you don’t know because they are all wearing suits.

It is when you hear someone else’s story that you know you are not the only one with problems.

Smithkafors:
Lol, they have come again.

You need a credible candidate,PO contested but you kept on castigating him.

Now they want to form a merger to win … you still dey castigate.

This could be because of something else. We welcome merger
This merger arrangement is medicine after death. These are the same PDP people that could not sort themselves out at the opportune time. It is now that they lost that they realize they should sort themselves out?

The opportunity has gone…..why?

1) the south is already half way through its 8 years. The North is fully aware of what happened with Jonathan and will not make the mistake of voting for a fresh southerner who will get there and feels he is entitled to 8 years. The North would rather back a southerner they know for sure has only 4 years to go that take the chance of a man who is not known to be loyal and respect agreements. They would rather wait 4 years and have 8 years of peace.

2). Obi is unsellable in the core North. As it stands right now, Like it or not, accept it or not, an Ibo man cannot win the presidency without the support of the SW. The SE have not built bridges and trust to earn their votes. Learn from the politics of the SW. the SW is president today because they built bridges and earned the trust of the North. Tinubu is president today not because the SW said it is our turn, you can say it is your turn from now till kingdom come. Tinubu is president because the North said it is the turn of the south and in the south we trust the SW. so when you hear Okonkwo on tv insulting Atiku and calling him a geriatric, remmember these are the people whose votes Obi will need.

3) The only ticket than can wrestle power from Tinubu is Atiku and Obi VP but the ego (which is the same issue that caused the division in the 1st place) will not allow that to happen. You only have to listen to that actor lawyer on Channels yesterday to know that this will never happen. He swore that if Obi accepts To be VP he is done with Obi. This is the reason why the merger will not work. Obi has gone too far down the path and sees himself and indeed is now projecting himself as the de facto opposition to back down to accept the only path that can actually put him in Aso rock….as VP to Atiku.

4) PDP blame Obi for their failure. They resent him. Despite the fact that Wike worked for APC, listen to the way PDP members like Sowunmi and Reno talk affectionately and with respect and awe about Wike but are disparaging towards Obi. You think these people are ready to play second fiddle to Obi and LP? They would rather defect to APC. The insult of an Obi presidency to a PDP man is like someone taking over your family land and asking you to pay rent on it. You would rather die!!!

5) you think Atiku after 6 failed attempts will back down to back Obi who prevented him from snatching his destiny?

In the end the same issues that caused their division in 2023 will cause the failure of any merger. The problem with Atiku, Obi and Kwakwanso is that they have PDP mentality AKA “no gree for anybody” mindset. That is the fundamental difference between APC and PDP. In APC when the party says step down, you step down and work for the party. Umahi was told to step down in senate race and not only step down but become campaign manager for Akpabio. Today he man’s the most powerful ministry in Nigeria which will enhance his profile for a shot at the VP slot in 2031. APc play the long game, PDP are by their DNA short term in their thinking that is why Atiku, Obi and Kwakwanso are serial defectors.

Atiku and Obi missed their appointment with destiny in 2023. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. That opportunity is gone and gone for good. Umahi or Uzodima will enter Aso rock as VP in 2031 and from there……. It is not by chance that Umahi is works minister and Uzodima is chairman APC governors forum…everything APC does especially under Tinubu is deliberate. Obi missed his chance to be VP. His destiny now is as a noise maker.

rdsco:
What if their parents are toxic?
Even for your sakes?
Like someone said earlier if you can abandon your parents you can abandon anybody.

As for your question about toxicity, even marriages become “toxic” If you cannot manage your parents “toxicity” and accept they are your parents, then when your marriage becomes “toxic” in your eyes you will walk.

Marriage is about responsibility not about convenience, if you are not responsible with your parents, you will not be responsible in marriage.

Finally if your parents are truly toxic, you are likely toxic yourself. The psychological damage to you is done and you can’t run away from yourself, so if anything it’s more reason one should avoid marrying someone who abandons so called “toxic” parents. It’s a clear advertisement that “I am toxic”.
