Crude Oil is important to transportation, providing electricity to houses, aviation fuel, plastics, electricity to businesses, electricity to companies you claim are biggest in Nigeria.

You did not list the largest companies in Nigeria yet you're saying what you don't know.

you're wrong and you suffer from mis-education.
My friend you are either really daft or you clearly do not understand economics. The crude you are talking about, will their workers not eat? Will they not wear clothes, do they not make phone calls? They perform a function like every other industry.

This started as a discussion about government revenue but since you want to go off course, I will go there with you. Every industry is important and all are interlinked and dependent on each other but if you analyze them by what they contribute:

Economy/Employment:
The oil industry employs less people than agriculture, transport, banks, telecoms, education, health etc. it is a component of the economy, it fuels the economy but it is not the economy…..it never never ever has been! I was even being generous when I said thee oil industry was less than 15% of our economy. Since you decided to respond with this nonsense, I decided to fact check…..it is actually less than 6%!

Revenue:
The advent of crude and the removal of resource control and financial autonomy made us lazy so we depended on crude for govt revenue but the withholding of allocations by Obasanjo and Tinubu’s response to increasing IGR has led governments at state and federal levels to up their game and increase non oil revenues improve tax collection etc etc. now oil receipts as a percentage of total government revenues is less than 50%. Like I said to you 30% of the mon eh shared I. September came from VAT. Where is thee most VAT collected….Lagos…..Lagos is not an oil economy. If you look at many states they make more money from IGR than they get from FAAC, dont forget FAAC itself is oil + vat + company tax + customs duty, so even the FAAC they are distributing, oil revenue is less than half of it and states are generating more IGR than the whole FAAC. That should tell you oil is no longer as important as a source of govt revenue as you think. It’s importance is for forex.

Forex: this is where oil shines because we export very little. However in recent times due to more Nigerians living abroad, diaspora remittances have matched and in some years (of low oil production/low oil prices) exceeded our forex revenues from oil sector.

Nigeria makes most of its forex today from diaspora remittance. However that remittance is not official, it is only for official forex that we are dependent on oil revenues.

Crude Oil creates other industries like aviation fuel industry, petroleum industry, diesel industry, kerosine, Liquified petroleum gases, petrochemical feedstock, plastics, clothing, gum e.t.c..

without crude oil the transport industry is dead and most businesses and companies in Nigeria rely on fuel or diesel for their generators to power their businesses.

the daily activities of over 70 million working class people in Nigeria requires crude oil and its by-products to be operational..

you have a mental problem if you believe crude oil does not contribute over 85% of Nigeria's revenue..
If that is the angle you are coming from, You have an education deficiency if you don’t know that the oil industry is less than 15% of Nigeria’s GDP.

We are talking about revenue. The oil industry is becoming less and less a source of government revenue. Crude and gas are the biggest source of official forex but I am sure you will also argue ignorantly when I tell you Nigeria gets more forex from diaspora remittances than it gets from oil. Your cousin abroad who sends money to his parents bring in more forex for the country than Oil…..Shocking I know…but true!!!

Our economy has never been an oil economy. Our government revenue had been dependent on oil due to laziness. Don’t confuse the 2! The only major significance of the oil industry to Nigeria is as an official source of forex.

The largest companies in Nigeria are not oil companies. Of the top 10 listed companies in Nigeria only 1 is oil related and it is no 10 on the list and it is almost 1/5th the size of the company in no 5 slot which is a food company!
Nigerias richest men are not oil related. Food, telecoms, banking is where our economy is. Oil is really only important for forex. The money we are sharing every month, most of it is company tax, vat and customs duty. Please go and verify.

You're talking nonsense!

Beer parlour gossip. Any coalition that does not throw Obi as presidential candidate is dead on arrival
Any coalition that throws in Obi as its presidential candidate is dead on arrival.

You won’t like to hear it but this is the truth. If you form a coalition and put Obi as presidential candidate, the northern votes will go to APC.

Let me explain this to you. Atiku is not going through all this to settle as VP to Obi. He has already been VP. Why go through all the trouble to be a VP to Obi at 80yrs? If Atiku is not going to be his VP then who in the North as VP can pull votes for OBI? The only person is Kwakwanso and Kwakwanso will never be VP to Obi. There is no other person in the North today who has the stature to take on APC in the north especially as a VP. Therefore, I hope you can see that Obi is dead on arrival because 2027 is his only chance.

Also, the north will also not want a repeat of what happened with Jonathan where they will support a southerner for 1 term and he will get there and say he wants 2 terms. Better let the south complete their 2 terms with a man they know cannot run again and will definitely support a return to the north, than introduce a new Southerner who will tell you story when it is time for the north.

The truth is Obi made an error in leaving PDP. it may have been a forced error but it was an error. He should never have left PDP. Having left PDP he has sealed his political fate….he will never be president of Nigeria. If The opposition want to dislodge Tinubu , the best chance is via Atiku. Whether they will be able to get the same 14m votes in 2027, I don’t know, whether they can truly unite, I don’t know but I do know than only Atiku can dislodge Tinubu….and even then it is no guarantee.

But one thing I do know 100% take it to the bank. Obi will never be on the list of Nigerian presidents. He is damaged goods.

You are his supporter, you voted for him and he didn’t wi. He already has your votes what you need are the votes of the people who didn’t vote for him…no be so? For us to vote for him, you have to understand how we feel about him and if that feeling can go away. Who are these “we” whose votes you need? SW and the Northern Muslim votes. I can tell for free over our dead bodies will we vote for Obi.

Obi has reached the peak he will ever get. He has picked up the easy votes but they are not enough, the ones he needs to cross the line are the ones he can never get. Let us also not forget, 2023 was a golden opportunity for PDP, there are those in the PDP that will forever resent him for damaging their chances and causing their defeat from jaws of victory by leaving the party…..exemplified by people like Reno. He is more likely to lose votes from his current base than to gain votes.

Nonsensical assessment, then how come Delta (The Big Heart State) has received the highest allocation from the same FAAC in the last 8 years, but yet none of its local governments made the list?

Most probably bet my last Benjamin Franklin, the op was referring to internal generated revenue?
Delta state receives the highest faac based on oil revenue derivation. Lagos LGA also receives the highest based on VAT source derivation.

Note also that such is the drop in oil production over the years that 1) profit on oil has gone down because cost of production has gone up aand amount produced has gone down 2) a lot of the income from oil has been blocked against loans taken 3) it’s share of overall govt revenue has also gone down.
Politics › Re: States FAAC From January To August by casualobserver:

Interesting to see states with no single drop of oil and bring nothing to the centre like Katsina, Borno, Kano, Oyo and Jigawa getting more from the centre than states with crude oil like Edo, Imo, Abia, Anambra and Ondo. Meanwhile, crude oil sales account for over 85% of federal government earnings. Niger Delta states have been scammed!
Crude does not account for 85% of govt earnings. It constitutes the major source of forex not overall revenue.

The majority of govt revenue comes from customs duty, company tax and Vat.

VAT alone was 1/3rd of FAAC allocation in September for example.

If oil production is low, and the cost of production goes up then revenue from oil will go down and oil producing states will not get as much as they previously did.

It will surprise you that because oil production has fallen so much some of the states you mention bring more non oil revenue to the Centre than some of the states you mentioned bring from oil.

We had parliamentary system, where everybody controlled his own resources, it didn’t work, we fought. We introduced presidential system under a federal but unitary structure where the Centre allocates resources and owns everything, it hasn’t worked now the same people that abandoned parliamentary system are saying we should return to parliamentary system and resource control.

But not fully! How do you partially conduct a congress? The purpose of the court order was to conduct a valid congress. It wasn’t done as such without a structure they cannot conduct sponsor candidates.

https://www.youtube.com/live/aX8OEqvyPMA?si=hDnwF1ofvE2zL3Cy

Watch from 42:00. He clearly states it is not about nomination it is about sponsorship.

Bwala and PDP are trying to create their own narrative that this is about disobeying court order and trying to rope in Ebonyi. It is not. It is about the consequence of not obeying the court order. I.e. not conducting a congress. Without one you have no structure, without a structure you cannot sponsor. The case is about sponsorship.

You are largely right but in plateau, what matters is not the nomination process because primaries and congresses are conducted by nwc.they can use special or adhoc delegates for primaries.pdp or any party exists without congresses but no leadership structure exists but membership exists. The court order which was disobeyed is what matters.

For Kano,I agree with you
Hmmm, what was the court order, was it not to conduct a valid congress?

Exactly.you are also challenging the membership of an unqualified member because it seems sponsorship was ok in Kano but membership is invalid while in plateau membership and sponsorship are ok but due to the false foundation and dissent for a court order, the entire nomination and qualifications process is dead
thats not how i interprete it.

Plateau: Party did not hold proper congress as directed by court order .....therefore party structure does not exist in plateau..therefore what does not exist cannot sponsor candidates. The issue of membership and sponsorship is mute because there is no PDP in Plateau having not performed a congress as directed. if there is no party structure, there is no sponsorship.

Kano: Kano is precisely about sponsorship. Party structure exists but party sponsored a candidate who was not a member of the party in breach of the electoral act..therefore the party sponsored an unqualified candidate.

No outsider can challenge the membership of another party. you wait until they present that unqualified candidate (or non member) to run against you in an election (at which point it becomes post election) and then you focus on the party (not the candidate) for presenting a candidate who is not a member or otherwise unqualified.

Go and read the Appeal Court judgement on the Benue PDP candidate, the PDP HOR for Askira Uba etc, you will make an informed understanding.

The understanding of sponsor a candidate & what 'unqualified' means
i have read it. you clearly still dont understand. i have tried to explain this like I would explain to my 10 yr old son. There is not much else I can say.

https://www.thecable.ng/appeal-court-affirms-election-of-pdps-balami-as-borno-rep

In Borno, APC challenged the nomination, its not their business to challenge nomination, it is pre election issue and its none of their business or the business of the court....how many times will i say this? Jesus wept!!!

In Plateau and Kano they challenged the sponsorship of an unqualified candidate.

the process by which your opponent became an unqualified candidate in another party is none of your business and a pre election matter. If aggrieved mmebers of that party do not bring the matter up pre election, no one else can challenge the nomination.

Presenting an unqualified candidate to run against me in an election is a different matter, I am not challenging the process by which he became an unqualified candidate or the candidate, I am challenging the party for presenting/sponsoring an unquialifed candidate. At this point 1) it becomes my business, it is a post election matter and the court has jurisdiction. see electoral act sect 184 (1)

The process and the outcome of a party's primaries is an internal affair and not the business of an outsider. it becomes an outsiders affair the minute a party presents a candidate who is not qualified to run against him. It is about what you seek in court, who it is you are suing and how you word your plea. That a candidate is not qualified to be a nominee is not your business and happens before the election. It is only when a party presents an unqualified candidate at the election that you can challenge it and your plea must be against the party and the sponsorhip of an unqualified candidate. it is at that point that you can challenge the nomination indirectly by challenging the party for presenting a candidate that isnt qualified. The court is a very precise arena. PDP had a good case in Ogun state but they lost because of the way they worded their appeal. They used the word "purported", a word which means rumour, you dont go to court based on a rumour, you go to court to plead facts and so the case was dismissed.

the mistake lawyers have been making in the past (like the Borno case you cited) is that they have been challenging the candidates for being unqualified instead of challenging the party for presenting an unqualified candidate.

Once party primaries are over, in terms of validity of membership, your problem is not with the candidate, your problem is with the party. big difference!!!!! ...and it only becomes your business when the present that person to run against you.
Politics › Re: Differences Between The Kano Judgment And Peter Obi Membership Case At PEPT by casualobserver: 7:20pm On Nov 20, 2023

Another twist to a simple issue.

If u can't challenge a candidate then what is your locus with the choice of a party that you don't contribute to it's existence? challenging a candidate is challenging the party & challenging the party in our election is challenging the candidate. you can't septate the two if a party doesn't field a candidate it can't contest an election and if a candidate wants to contest an election he/she must use the banner of a party because independent candidacy doesn't exist as such the argument that a candidate won election without being sponsored by a party is petty &an attempt to rubbish INEC & obtain victory by trickery.

Separate membership, nomination & sponsorship from qualification. Most parties are litigating on qualification but are using membership, nomination and sponsorship to deliver their arguments. Even those using mundane terms such as 'structure' are using the same tricks.
oga try and reason without emotion. if you do you will see the logic behind it, if not you will make the same mistake next time.

What you do in your house in not my business, at the point when you come out of your house AND INTERACT WITH ME it becomes my business.

The nomination of your flag bearer is not my business as an outsider. A party sponsoring a candidate that does not satisfy the rules becomes my business as a candiate/party, the minute he lines up against me for an election. Since the internal process for selecting or electing a flagbearer is none of my business, the part that is my business is what i can challenge in court. i.e that a political party sponsored a candidate in an election that was unqualified.

understand the difference. Previous cases failed because people challenged the nomination, whereas APC challenged the sponsorship of an unqualified candidate in an election...same with Plateau.

Nomination is not the business of an outsider, participation in an election is because now you are outside your house interacting with me.

the mistake others have made in the past is to challenge the nomination which is internal party affair and a pre election matter and not the sponsorship at the actual election as well as to focus on the candidate instead of the party.

"Your nomination is invalid" (against individual, pre election matter, none of my business because you didnt contest against me in the primaries) is different from "you sponsored an unqualified candidate" (against party, pre and post election matter see sect 184 (1) of elct act, my business because you contested against me in the election)
Politics › Re: Differences Between The Kano Judgment And Peter Obi Membership Case At PEPT by casualobserver:
slivertongue:
I have asked what is qualification of a candidate? Because i understand the tricks of replacing one issue with other to advance the argument of qualification.
As i understand it, the difference here is that APC challenged the party not the individual.

When you challenge the individual's nomination, the law says it is none of your business as you are not a member of the party and you have no locus because you lost nothing. if the party did not give him the ticket they would have given someone else in the party and not you so you did not lose anything.

However when you challenge the party for sponsoring of a candidate who is not a member of the party, you can seek damages because it affects you because that candidate that did not comply with the law went on to contest against you so now it affects you.

a party's internal primary that produces a candidate is none of your business as an outsider, its also a pre election matter so the court will dismiss the case. however at the point when that nominee contests against your party, your party can now challenge the other party for fielding an unqualified candidate. unqualified candidates is a pre and post election matter.

Think of it this way, someone employs a driver who does not have a license and you go to court. The court will rightly tell you it is none of your business. The right place to go in such a situation is the police, the court is a place for remedy but as no harm has been done to you simply by another man employing an unqualified driver the court will dismiss your case as they have dismisse dother similar cases.

However once that unqualified driver hits you or your car, then you have been wronged and have suffered damages and at that point the court will entertain your case against the Employer for employing an unqualified driver.

Its brilliant lawyering!!!

And to those talking about whether a party can interfere in another party’s nomination, even the lawyer of the PDP said (I saw the interview). That nomination is a pre election matter but sponsorship is both a pre election and a post election matter. The issue at hand is sponsorship (whether a party that is not recognized because it did not comply with procedures for its congress) can sponsor a candidate. This is why all PDP candidates in plateau are deemed null and void.

Meanwhile, the APC candidate did not even allow Primaries to be conducted for his emergence. I watched on TVC the walkout by other APC candidates protesting Nentawe's emergence without a proper gubernatorial primaries. But we have to just allow the court judgement in Nigeria to stand- because it's never about who is right or wrong but whom the judges prefer to stay. I must say, Justice Abang is setting himself gradually as an unpopular Judge, same way we had CP/AIG Mba attach a bad name to his Police career.
The court is not a place for emotions, you all edge and present evidence and the court will rule based on what you plead and the facts you present. If you go to court to say your car was stolen, the court will not award you compensation for your television that was also stolen because you did not go to court for television.

Whether APC did in its plateau primaries is neither here nor there, because it was not challenged in court. What was challenged in court was what PDP did and it was challenged by PDP members not APC. If it wasn’t challenged by PDP, APC would not have have a leg to stand on.

A political party with no structure cannot be qualified to sponsor a candidate for election. The Tribunal was in grave error when it held that the Petitioner had no right to contest the election" - Justice Abang held.

I felt very uncomfortable when I saw the name, Justice Okon abang now at the Appeal court?

Wahala dey!!!!! Cash and carry Fed high court judge that year
Why give the judiciary an opportunity to mess you up? At some point people must take responsibility for their own errors. If you performed your state congress according to the law, instead of the situation where your cannot settle your problems in house and your own party members are taking the party to court to get court orders to stop the congress, nobody can come and challenge your candidates no matter the manner they emerged. So PDP must take responsibility for their lapses and not all the time blaming judiciary.

There are a lot of cases that PDP have lost due to ineptitude, ogun state and plateau come to mind. At some point you can’t keep blaming judiciary.

it's a pre election matter and should have originated from the high court.Bayelsa and zamfara cases we love to site as examples originated from the high court. The tribunal last the jurisdiction to entertain the case sir
Apc did not challenge the right of PDP to choose its candidates. Precedence on this subject has already been established….it is not on their business.

What APC said is that as far as the law is concerned, since PDP did not follow the guidelines for its plateau state congress and disobeyed a court order ( which I assume was filed by aggrieved members of PDP in plateau) PDP plateau state does not exist in the eyes of the law.

What does not exist cannot produce something, therefore all candidates of PDP are unrecognized in the eyes of the law.

It is not the choice of candidates, that APC challenged, what APC pleaded in court is that there is no PDP in plateau state. And the judges agreed.

As for pre election and post election matters he cited section 134 (1). The grounds for disqaualification being that PDP did not exist is plateau state since they breached the rules for congress. Therefore the entire structure of PDP in plateau is null and void and does not exist under the law.

The APC has no locus standi here. That's where their case will be thrown out. People keep referring to Zamfara's case in 2019 as the basis for this case, forgetting that it was APC vs APC that led to the supreme court verdict.
The lawyer for APC said something in his press conference. I think people confuse the right of another party to meddle in the nominee of another party versus a party that does not exist in the yes of the law.

From what I understand from what he said, the argument was not in how PDP chose its candidates, that is not APC’s business. The challenge was that by law PDP did not conduct a valid congress in plateau and therefore they do not exist in the eyes of the law. Since they do not exist, they cannot field candidates.

Who’ll furnish us with the details of the judgment?
It appears that PDP is a victim of internal fighting (as usual). The congress that produced their candidates were not recognized by INEC or in breach of a court order (likely filed by aggrieved PDP members). Therefore since the congress is not recognized anything produced by the congress including primaries is also not recognized by law.

The sacking of governors and federal lawmakers this time is unprecedented, I blame INEC for everything that is happening
Blame INEC, don’t blame PDP for internal fighting and flouting court orders.

We are a wonderful set of people, we will do anyhow and then find someone to blame for our own lapses.

What is unprecedented is the incompetence of PDP.

So,which is worse in your eyes: the one telling people who already know the truth about your defective family members the truth, or lying in their face about them even though you know that everyone knows that you are lying?
If they already know, then what is the purpose of your saying it? Did they ask you? Even if they did, emotional intelligence dictates you diplomatically avoid the subject. In his case nobody asked him, like you said they already know. he just felt a need to throw his country under the bus to project himself.

Anybody with a brain who hears someone bad mouthing his own true or not should have alarm bells ring in his brain. Your family members may be defective but you saying it says a lot o about you…that you are just as defective as your family. It’s like the old adage…beware of people who bring other people’s stories or secrets to you, they will take yours to others…talk less someone who brings his family secrets to you. There are some things that do not come out of your mouth. There are some things that speak to character.

The lack of understanding of this very basic concept shows a lack of emotional intelligence. You would think that adults would understand these basic things.

More importantly what did he expect to gain? That they will come to Nigeria and fix our judiciary? What did he do when he was chairman of NBA, was it it under his watch that lawyers were fighting like touts for conference giveaways? Is he not part of the same NBA that rigged elections? Has he sorted out the bar before accusing the bench? Is it not the same lawyers that compromise judges?

Look, jada smith came to the defense of her husband regarding accusations of being gay. She was not there when the incident happened, but she defended her husband… not because he isn’t gay but because of the effect it will have on her and her children. Everybody believes he is gay, the rumors have been out for decades, as his wife, she doesnt need to be the one confirming it. What does she gain by confirming “what people already know”.

We need to use our brains.. yes we have issues but we are creating bigger issues by airing dirty linen in public. All these nonsense of reporting to EU, reporting to US, writing letter to Biden, disgracing judges at an international bar conference. Has any of this ever solved any problem? No. Instead the stench is now confirmed and applied to all. Nigerians So you and I who are already suffering will now be subject to ridicule and discrimination based on some idiots confirming their already existing perceptions. Like I said earlier, since the whole expedition in Chicago, Nigerian nurses are now subject to extra scrutiny over their qualifications, in time it will extend to other Nigerian certificates. Meanwhile what were you expecting to gain from the Chicago university drama. The school said he attended and graduated and even if he forged his certificate as you claimed, it is inadmissible. So you just tarnished an entire country for nothing.

Sometimes, the way you react to a situation especially adversity say more about you than those who wronged you…please try and remember that as you go through life. You can gain respect or lose it by the way you react or refuse to react.
