saxywale:No Sir, I am not and I do not work for FRSC. I only support the idea of registering licenses to people and not to cars and capturing their data for future reference should need be. Most carnage on our highways could be minimized if traffic offenders could be weeded out. Some may argue that the system could be updated using the old number plate, but that would mean waiting for longer than 5 years to effect, but if all are forced to procure the new license, then the objective could be achieved faster. Same thing happened when we changed from Machine readable passports to biometric ECOWAS passport. We all complained and cried, but at the end of the day went for the new passport for those who must have it. I only hope that we wouldn't wait till almost a week to August 2012 before rushing to go for it. It is a positive step by those who conceived the idea. |
@Ijawgirl, nice pictures and very colorful indeed. I always enjoy viewing pictures of the cultural attires of the different nations in Nigeria. For those who are more interested in whether a fedora hat is Ijaw heritage or European - it's part of the culture of the Ijaws and that's what matters |
inspired_m:@ inspired_m special security feature(s) are not required in license plates. From what I have read, the main aim is to have the new numbers registered to a person and a car (as is obtained in other climes) instead of just to a car. That way, if one wishes to sell his car, he has to de-register the number while the new owner would have to register the vehicle anew with his name and a different license plate. We've had cases where people commit crimes with their cars and are untraceable. That in my opinion would be minimized with this new system |
sdbaba:@sdbaba, a family that can afford to maintain 3 cars would very likely be able to change the plate numbers of their cars. I am told that the high cost now is due to the Nigerian factor of civil servants collecting extra money to do their job. For all I know, it costs 15,000 Naira to obtain the new license plate. And yes, I think right, perhaps a little differently (on this matter) from the way you see the whole policy. |
tboy1:Believe me, it would cost more to implement what you are suggesting. Besides, how do you "force" people to go for the update? How long did it take to have people go register their SIM cards? Even so, weren't people crying foul and our senators and reps calling for the registration to be suspended, just like they are doing now? The approach the government took on this particular policy is the best. To gradually phase out the old license plate (not that there's anything wrong with it) in order to capture the people accordingly in the new system (which is the sole aim of the new license plate) |
the policy is already in place and we can cry all we want, it won't change anything. If you want to know the true advantage of the new license number, wait until you have some points against your license for reckless driving |
we all want things done differently in this country, but nobody wants to accept change. The best way to capture all vehicle owners is by forcing a change in the license numbers. Now you get a new license plate number and it's registered against your name and drivers license. That's how it is done in other countries. If you own a car go and get the new license and stop moaning! |
If Jonathan and Co are claiming that things have changed since the last time he rejected the award, then they must be really blind to the plight of every day Nigerians:
[li]the road where he lost his 2 legs in a car crash still remains a death trap and still killing and maiming hundreds[/li] [li]the airport where he had to wait for hours in an aircraft awaiting the provision of a wheelchair to wheel him out of the plane, still lacks wheelchairs[/li] [li]the thieves who robbed his people and all Nigerians, are still walking the streets with sirens blazing and non has been prosecuted for their previous offenses[/li] [li]the hospitals where he couldn't get effect medicare after the accident hasn't been improved[/li]
He's simply saying, correct these and he would gladly accept your honor, but before then, you can keep decorating nincompoops like Ringim |
No section of the country is going to separate, not even in the next 100 years. Separation isn't easy and where are you going to draw the lines and who would do that. Besides, every section of the country can stand on their own if push comes to shove. Necessity would ensure that! |
270 km/hr along the A9 Berlin - Munich Autobahn. I wasn't driving myself, but it was scary. Made the 800 km long distance in under 4 hours. We drove on Mercedes ML 350 rental car. |
and what about the Badagry axis? Don't they have decent hotels where one could quietly rest and take a walk along the beaches and watch the sun set? Aren't those what make the ladies swoon? If you can't afford to travel out of the country or go to Obudu, you can at least find a quiet cheap but decent hotel in any city in Nigeria and enjoy your spouse. Even waterside Aba overlooking the Ahia Udele meat market would do |
Daddy and Mommy and maybe a pack of crayons |
PointB:@ PointB, you don't walk into a showroom to pick a coach of your liking. It takes almost 2 weeks to finish one and there are hundreds of cities and operators who are also ordering new coaches. So if you need to place an order for almost 100 coaches, be sure it will take more than 3 or 4 years before it would be delivered. Refurbished coaches are the best for Lagos at the moment and cost effective too |
has the match ended? Are Enyimba out? I weep for Nigerian football |
The paramedics seem to be the busiest in the stadium |
too much time wasting going on. The Wydad players are playing theatrics, though Enyimba are not putting in enough pressure on their defence. I see the Super Eagle effect on them - coming so close but not being able to cross the rubricon |
End of 1st Half and it is still 0-0. Hope Enyimba will break Wydad's resistance |
Ibime:Siasia had the chance to overtake the Guineans, but failed spectacularly. So he's the one who dropped the glass cup that shattered not Eguavoen |
What's all these nonsense about TB Joshua. We didn't take our chances and are out, so whatever anybody may have predicted had no effect on the game. We simply were too lame to do anything. Had Siasia brought in Ike Uche earlier or introduced Musa Ahmed with his speed, we would have had a chance. Sorry, we'll wait for the 2013 chance and if we mess up then, we'll also watch the World cup from the sidelines. Meanwhile, time to promote Obuh to the super eagles to build his team to replace these ones or promote Eguavoen if he qualifies Nigeria for London 2012 |
what a shame! I hope Siasia would be man enough to take the blame on the chin. |
why do they keep taking our matches to Abuja? The pitch is bumpy and there are no fans in the stadium. They should consider either PH or Lagos. It's a shame |
CARLISTO77:Thanks Carlisto77. Works |
RuuDie:@ Rudie, Cameroon has 11 points and during the qualifications, took 6 points off 4th placed Mauritius (home and away wins). So if you deduct the 6 points from 11, they are left with 5 points and there are more than 2 teams from the other groups who have more points after deducting maximum 6 points, even before playing their last game - recall that both Sudan and Ghana have 13 points apiece |
The best of them all are Conquest of Paradise and Chariots of Fire by Vangelis |
The only person the northern political establishment fears in the south is OBJ - in the absence of Ojukwu. So whatever is attributed to OBJ sends jitters down their spines. There should be equitable redistribution of executive positions at the various agencies, using qualification and competence as the yardstick for such appointments |
This is great news for Lagos State residents. Tokunboh or no Tokunboh, it's laudable. Besides after refurbishment, nobody would know that the carriages aren't brand new. They are not taking it to the US to "wash" them only. Up to 40-60% of the cost of brand new carriages would thus be saved and that makes economic sense. When the rail becomes operational and the project starts earning revenue, the operators could then order new carriages Kudos to Fashola and his team in Lagos State |
Cameroon is geographically in West Africa, but politically in Central Africa. One could also argue otherwise, based on the interior part of Cameroon bordering CAR and Gabon. The maps below provide a overview

No sane parents will receive and accommodate their daughter permanently, unless there's been proven consistent case of physical abuse on the lady. And even at that, it must have been previously reported. In an abusive marriage, both families should be made aware on what's going on and attempts are usually made at resolving the differences and talking sense into the man (assuming he's a Tyson incarnate). But for ordinary physical fight between couples, the parents would rather sit the lady down, listen to what she has to say and thereafter, ask her to go back "home" while they come later to try and settle the difference. And no one should confuse bride price with gifts and traditional requirements for marriage. In most Igbo society it is the gifts that are expensive and are never returned (or meant to be returned) should there be divorce. Most places I know, the bride price (and what is returnable) is usually less than 50 Naira. And why would a lady be "fleet footed" and ready to dump her home at the slightest problem? Her mom stayed and made the home she's returning to |

The Yorubas are the only ones crying wolf over the suspension of Salami. The old Judge sold himself short, by his dubious underhand dealings with the ACN. He made himself partisan and shouldn't cry now that he's bearing the brunt of political rulings! He should be careful if he's not found guilty of perjury in the months to come. As for his removal, it's a forgone conclusion and not even the Tinubus and Fasholas + the Soyinkas and Falanas will change his situation. Good riddance |
Salami should have been removed a long time ago. He's becoming a lord unto himself and very arrogant - whether or not he is right is another matter. The CJN will soon be retiring, so it's better that both go so that the judiciary can put it's house in order. He single-handedly installed ACN in the southwest |
