Different strokes for different folks. Prostrating to an older person is a way of showing respect, that is all. I guess you will be equally shocked if a Japanese old enough to be your grandpa bows to you in greeting, right?
No, i will not. Taking a bow is certainly not the same as falling flat face to the ground. We all bow to the queen or stand up when a judge or reverend father enters the court or church. That is simple courtesy. Lying fully stretched out on the ground is dehumanising, degrading and intended to subdue. I do not want to subdue, nor degrade my child. Anyway, you are entitled to your culture.

I fully understand understand where Femi Fani-kayode is comming from. Most black people on this planet wished they were Igbos. That Igbos are republicans is a given fact. I had a Yoruba room mate in my University days in naija. One day his father visited. Kayode, that's his name fell to the ground and lay down flat with his hands stretched out, face to the ground as a way of greeting his father. I was shocked. I did'nt know what to do. I could not bring myself to lie flat on the ground for him. I had to shake his hand. That is the way i greet my own father whenever he visits.
So FFK has a point there. Igbos are the freest of Nigerian tribes. And of course the most intelligent. By intelligent, i don't mean book. just plain natural intelligence. The type that people like Steve Job or Bill Gates have.

I saw a house being advertised for N25m. The same house (with pics) was advertised by another agent for N27m net. Greedy pigs.
Can you imagine that. Adding a whooping N2m on top. Every agent agent in the chain adds something on top for himself. Why would you want to make N2m on a property you contributed nothing (zero) to it's construction?. N100k is even too much. Corrupt public servants and politicians are to blame. Everything now is in 100s of million or billion. Most of our stolen public fund is laundered in properties. Go to Abuja and see the kind of houses owned by fed. civil servants. People on paid salaries.
Nigerians have forgotten that N10m is a huge amount in any currency of the world.

KIds, Vulnerable !!. have you had a househelp before ?. I visited my sister early last year after she had a new born baby. Her nanny looked like Serena Williams. No kidding. I told her straight away that i don't think it's a good idea to have someone like her as a nanny. She was a paid nanny. Because there are no jobs in nigeria now, you will be surprised to see the kind of girls who are nannys or house help thesedays. They could actually take advantage of you. Nothing kiddish or vulnerable about some of them

OP you should be ashame of yourself. You have a wife and kids, but you
still go on to desire the touch of one dirty smelly househelp? You better refrain from your evil thought,
before you openly put your hands into doom.
No need to be condescending here. It could happen to any man. How many world famous men have been know to have an affair or even marry their househelps or nanny. The latest being Arnold Schwazzenegger. With a child to show for it. It could happen to you and your husband if you're married. The best solution is just prevention.
Romance › Re: I Am Attracted To My Househelp by Chinom(m): 3:42pm On Mar 07, 2012
old boy, i know how you feel. My wife's salesgirl / househelp lived with us back then in Magodo, Lagos. Talk about eve offering apple !. She goes around early in the morning wearing nothing but a very see through night gown with no bra on. My wife usually leaves early, asking her to do some cleaning b4 joining her. I wouldn't say i was attracted to her, but the sexual urge was unbearable. I had to remain in my room until she's gone. I was able to resist the urge. Some of these househelps are very sneeky. My advice to you is to try and stay as far away from her as possible. Do not let your self be at the same place with her at any time your wife is not around. By this i mean the kitchen and sitting room.
Any attempt to go to the kitchen while she is there sweeping or washing plates will spell doom for you. this is my advice from a man with experience.
Politics › Re: Efcc Moves To Legalise Plea-bargaining by Chinom(m): 3:08pm On Mar 07, 2012
The only plea-bargain we will accept is that the thieving public official would return all, i mean every single kobo he stole before having his sentence reduced or freed. He will have to sell all his assets if need be. We will not accept it if they return just about 5% while having enough to just sit back and enjoy their loot.
I'm curious as to how the NASS will handle this bill. There are a lot of thieves there too.

Good luck to you. So you guys use multiple accounts too. I don't recall you being the poster. FYI, an uncompleted building or foundation on a plot of land reduces the value of that plot. It is an additional cost post for the buyer. Anyway, Good luck to you. i hope you find a buyer.

Yes, i receive about 2 daily. They are on the prowl on Nairaland. I always tell the "ladies" to send a naked picture of themselves holding up a current newspaper. This is because some of them send me pictures of strange women downloaded from the net.
They are jobless people. Also be carefull of all those claiming to have 3 or 5 million naira to invest. As soon as you post your mail address on their thread, the scam mails start pouring in.

%age is by definition for a 12 month period. For 1 year. So, no one should pay any agent a percentage sum for a 2 year rent payment. Besides charging rent upfront for 2 years is illegal in Lagos. Ask to see the landlord. Besides the 5 or 10% agency fees should be split between the Landlord and the new tenant.

@lanredo, Of course the rent or price of property at Agege and Ikoyi or Ikeja are not expected to be the same. But the disparity in prices are fixed purely on the whims and caprises of the estate agents. There are no verifiable point system in Nigeria used to value the worth of a property in Nigeria as obtains in the western world. A 3 bedroom flat in Magodo could be rented for N450,000 by one landlord/agent while another more hungry landlord/agent will put he's out for N950,000. Both apartments are located in Magodo. There are no standards in nigeria. In the situation of Lagos, yes, there is shortage of supply. But the demand is also dead, for the simple reason that tenants can not afford the ridiculous and unjustifiable prices. Purchasing power stimulates demand. The disposable income of most people in Lagos cannot afford the sort of rents posted by agents. Hence people just sit tight in the present accommadation. No movement whatsoever. Left to landlords, there will be a lot more movement in the rental business. But the agents stifle that by placing a very high price on the property.
A simple example are those properties at Mowe. If you got a plot there at say N40,000, cleared it and put some wall, why then would you put it up for sell at N1.5m. At N300,000 you more than recovered your investment, plus a nice profit. It does'nt make good business sense as far as i'm concerned.
Last question for you, lanredo. Can you justify the 10% agency fee which you and most agents charge not for 1 year but for 2 years. What justification do you have for collecting agency fee for 2 years ?.

He probably appointed the judge when he was the Governor. He will never be convicted in Ogun state, just like Ibori was not convicted in Delta state. The judiciary is our biggest problem in the fight against corruption.
Properties › Re: Life Is Gone Out Of This Section. Agents Have Ruined It. by Chinom(op): 11:55am On Mar 02, 2012
I simply think that they have very poor business sense. But they don't know that. Property and rental business grow when there is movement. If people are not moving from their current residence because rent is too high or the cost of land too expensive, no body makes money. The agents themselves will make zero.
Besides, some of the agents here may be no 5 on the chain of agents trying to sell or rent a single property. The real toss around starts when you go for inspection.
The prices they quote here are targeted towards Nigerians in the diaspora. They know that over 90% of those on Nairaland live outside the country. Magas, who do not know the actual prices of things in Nigeria. Some of them(the agents) do catch a few Akata mugus. That's why they're so persistent. Someone in US who is eager to return to Naija may actually pay N900k for a miniflat. Especially those ones that visit Naija once in 3 years. those are their targets. So be warned.

You have a very warped mind. You know it's the other way round with Soyinka. He wanted us all to know that he knew Ojukwu as a child. He is honoured to have Ojukwu as a childhood friend. Something he will boast with. Soyinka is the one seeking validation here. Let's face it, in their childhood days, Ojukwu and Soyinka DID NOT belong to the same league. Somehow, he got to be Ojukwu's friend. Something he's proud of. There's nothing wrong with that though. What is wrong is the way you misinterpreted it. You really do have a problem man. Which Igboman did you in ?.

Guys, please ignore the likes of "Anchorra" and Alagbatomoye". They just can not help themselves. They suffer a very deep rooted inferiority complex towards the Igbos. It's really driving them crazy. An Igbo person must have hurt them so badly, treated them like shit which they are. They have literarily pissed on Ojukwu's grave under the anonimity of the internet. As born cowards they can only vomit such venom online. Comments like that could send them to early grave in the real life. I just feel sorry for them. They deserve pity, not hate.

Chime is looking sharp as usual. Good to see Jerry Rawlings and Ado Bayero.

This property section has become so boring. The only ones that reply to the posts( adverts) are the agents themselves. Buyers or renters are showing no interest. The ridiculous greed of the estates agents are to blame. Someone even had the guts to post a miniflat here for rent at N900k at Ikoyi. Is ikoyi in heaven?. That dirty place !Who would be daft anough to respond ?. All you see is "still available"posted by the same dimwit estate agents who did not contribute a single nail to the flat they're trying to rent out at N900k a year.
A landlord that charges N900k for a miniflat is a hungry landlord. However the agents pool wools over their eyes in their bid to cash in on agency fees. They have totally ruined this section for us. Each time i log in it's the same people, posting the same crap. Why not change strategy, reduce the price( rental or sale) and hope for more responses. i have given up on finding what i'm looking for here. It's obvious that the more sensible agents are not on Nairaland.
NO BODY GETS RICH BY BEING IRRATIONALLY GREEDY.

NB: No miniflat should cost more than N150k per annum. I don't care where it's located.

Of course i will always cherish them big-ass yoruba women. They are way more hornier than Igbo women. By the end of the day. The individual in front of me is who matters. That sodomy issue is beyond tribe, race, gender and level of education. The loverboys up North are mostly illiterate. It is a world wide wide problem. We do not condone it in Africa. but it's there nevertheless. Those housemaids may be looking to make some quick buck. Were they reeped?. All are consenting adults.
P/S admin, stop putting words in my mouth. The R word should be okay.
