European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: 90% Of Chelsea Fans In Nigeria Are Post Abrahamovich? by Christino(m): 11:11am On Mar 17, 2007
It is patriotic for Nigerians to support any club in which a Nigerian is representing. Newcastle have about 3 Nigerians (2 runaways) and if they are up against any premiership club besides Boro, i'll support them too. That doesn't mean I'm a Newcastle Fan.

Go check it, those who you think are supporting Newcastle cos of martins have their club prolly outside the Premiership, maybe Serie A or La Liga, some have clubs in every country.

Seun:

Christino, what is it about Boro FC that you admire so much? I'm surprised that you did not pick from the top 4.

Don't mind them, top 4 today may be the last four tomorrow, he who laughs last laughs best. I loved Boro because I was a fan of Juninho Pallister but when they bought 24 year old promising Yakubu, I started supporting a club for the first time, prior to that period my fave club was Enyimba FC, but they sold all the stars and bought mediocres, they sold Muri Ogunbiyi who was known throughout Alimosho and Iyana Ipaja as the best player in the whole of Lagos (he was far better than Ikedia, though not that pacy) and now they sold him to an Egyptian club (shameless goats) He was the talisman then and also Vincent Enyeama then was demoted to the bench because he couldn't get a contract and all that polictics, in fact after Kadiri Ikhana's switch to Kwara United (God help him i hear he's so ill now) I virtually lost interest in Enyimba but after the second success and the sales of the great players, I started supporting Boro.

Boro have a great Youth team and with the way things are I believe they can replace Tottenham as England's number 5 in the next campain only that Schwarzer isn't getting any younger.

The team has seen the likes of Juninho, Southgate, Woodgate, Downing, Yakubu, Hasselbaink, Mark Viduka, Abel Xavier,Robert Huth, Julio Arca, Fabio Rochemback and Gaizka Mendieta (all internationals at the senior level). Boro beat Bolton to the Carling cup at the time when Okocha was on fire. It was a sad day indeed for Reebok fans, Boro lost the UEFA cup by a whooping 4 goal margin to gentle giants Sevilla last season. Boro are indeed a great club.

Boro 4 Life!

Sports / Re: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Christino(m): 10:38am On Mar 17, 2007
@ Cyclone,

Don't forget that stats define your class and value, Remember Okocha went a whole season without scoring a premiership goal a year or so before he left bolton. Lampard's goal scoring stats as well as assists have been consistent, likewise no matter how much people hate Christiano Ronaldo they can't but help wondering what might have been. Lampard has been given a free role prolly even before the purchase of Makelele, nevertheless he still has those defensive capabilities. Mind you, Ballack, Geremi and Essien are also Defensive Midfielders and are equally good upfront only that Ballack and Lamps are known to be proficient upfront, as for Essien, gunners are a witness to that!

Yakubu truly has been second best only to Henry in Premiership haul of goals recently albeit "he's just 23" to early to declare class for a non-eu player and a non south american! What about Berbatov? Anyone gives a shite? I think not yet dude is the type that can score 18 goals in four months yet can't be bought for 11 million pounds! What about Martins, with 16 goals so far this season and with a good record with Inter yet was sold for a paltry 10million pounds for a young striker.

@ egoldman,

When I say Boro for life, I expect criticism from teams outside of Man U, Arsenal(don't even refer 2 d 7-1 bashing), Chelsea or L'pool (i'm sure you know why?) We aren't your daily whipping boys like them other outside the top 4 teams. Ya'll know it's life or death when ya come visiting, so shut ya . . .

Because of what Diego did to Rufai and consequently, Nigeria in 2004 by using Ephedrine, i will not give him the best player that ever lived. As a cheat he can't be.

It's like saying Carl Lewis and Ben Johnson or even Marion Jones were the fastest athletes ever (we got to know they doped!) Bloody Cheats!

Let's shame cheats, who knows for how long they've been cheating?

Pele Rules, and I hope Romario will achieve his 1,000 goals too, no one plays like a Brazilian (the word none) cheesy
Sports / Re: Attacking Midfielders by Christino(m): 8:09am On Mar 17, 2007
why d'u think Rafa has taken Gerrard out of the center of MF & onto the flanks?

I guess that explains why Gerrard has been disappointing this season. It reminds me of West Brom's failure when they decided to play kanu as a standing 9, he rewarded them with 7 goals in 2 amazing seasons grin When you take a player out of his natural position, you are looking for trouble. Tell me what's with Jeffers and Riise/Bellamy? Why play Gerrard on the flanks? Gerrard likes to hold the midfield and shoot from outside the box, he is a good crosser but we all know what his preffered role is.

Sports / Re: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Christino(m): 7:45am On Mar 17, 2007
@ BolaOni,

Like I said I don't have any problem with those guys i was just trying to explain why they are no longer the force they used to be. The best of Figo was seen when he was close to 30. Luca Toni hit the serie A dearly at the age of 28 or so.
I was trying to explain that early starters lose flair with age. Another great example is Gaizka Mendieta, he can't hold a starting jersey @ boro any longer - so sad. But look at Pauleta, still doing his thing, and Larsson too who's been around for so long (Anyone who says Larsson ain't good is definitely a wounded Nigerian, i did not forgive him for what he did to us @ the 2002 WC, chai, e pain me)

While some people pick up late in their career and play up to the age of 36 or even 38, some start as early as 16,17 and peak out at the ages of 26-28. The implication of this is that players like Fabregas, Rooney, Walcott and Anton may peak out sooner than expected and leave the same people praising them now doubting them later on.

Luiz Ronaldo was, acclaimed if not actually, the best striker in the world, but what's happening today, they say he's too fat, he's lost pace, reflexes and so on and so forth.

Drogba started making headlines when he was like 23,24 compared with Rooney or Torres or what have we. By the way, where's Vieri been since 2003?

@ Sage,

While Totti may be an idol to Italy and Roma, My greatest all time bests are Rivaldo, Ballack and Gerrard (the last two, both possessing defensive instincts and trademark long range abilities)though I don't worship them. I'll put Rafael Van Der Vaart in there someday. grin
Sports / Re: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Christino(m): 11:52pm On Mar 16, 2007
I can't define Toni's class, I hardly heard anything about dude until last season. He's a late starter. I won't say Totti is better than Zidane, Totti to Roma is What Baraja is to Valencia and Maldini is to Milan and lately, what Torres is to Athletico. When a player sticks with a club for so long he becomes heavily associated to such. Totti is one of the finest players in Italy but I do not think he is underrated. Maybe of course because we do not speak Italian. I'm sure the media would be all over his balls back home in Italy. The Gazetta should say a word or two about him week in week out.

Totti is a player of class and so is Lampard. I don't think anyone would doubt Gerrard's class even though this season has been sorta disappointing for him. Rooney has a few more years to establish his class. That Ronaldo is netting more goals means a lot to him, though he, rooney is assisting more (i love players who assist) wink

My only problem is that early starters peak out so soon. You'll begin to wonder what's wrong with Luiz Ronaldo at this stage. Even Raul Gonzalez is no longer the man he used to be, he started so early too. Okocha, Kanu and Oliseh are examples of good starters who peaked out when they were needed most.

When you look at the records of players like Scholes, Pires, Van Der Vaart,Nedved, Gerrard and host of great Attacking Midfielders, most of them were averagely rated.

But please, the poaching divemaster was never overrated, Inzaghi was and is still a player of class anyday. Anyone thinking Crespo was ever overrated should please resign from the sports thread.

And as for the WC, please many players played below par at the wc, Ronaldinho inclusive. And Ballack's arrival had nothing to do with Lamp's misfiring. In actual fact Lamps has contributed more than any midfielder in chelsea this season (of course behind Essien) His 11 prem goals and 9 prem assists are there for the records this season. Maybe someone needs to be reminded that Lampard has actually scored 27 goals this season including 2 goals for England. And as for Gilberto, he has never been overrated. If he had we should be seeing his name on transfer sagas and headlines, and also stuffs about his private life. To the best of my knowledge, the media are uninterested regarding what's even happening to him, so whatz d fuss about? smiley

It's pure misyarning 2 say CU is better than BU. CU is a good school anyway, but I think we should wait for another 5 years before coming 2 a conclusion.

@ Dido,

My fave used 2 be super super Ibadan, but you know the problem with nigerian players, after doing well in a season or two the go abroad as far as russia and australia for trials and prolly never return. I got fed up and started supporting Enyimba in 2001, All my fave guys there have been sold including Enyeama, Ogunbiyi and who else's left. I even have Anyasi's number on my phone today, the forum too is there, their website is okay but i've lost interest in them too, all the good men sold out. What's left. But it's not my fault anyway. inconsistency, but i'll rather kill myself over Enyimba than fight a nigerian cos of Middlesbrough, It's senseless to me. sad

I don't know what's happening in here anyway. Somepeople couldn't browse cos celtel changed the APN and we are making a huge case out of it. Firstly, they halved free sms, secondly, they scrambled free gprs, next, they gave who can be a foolionaire to MTN, what's left now nothing! cheesy

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Computer Ability Test Of Virgin Nigeria by Christino(m): 4:33pm On Mar 16, 2007
It is actually dumb to test people based on shortcut keys. Even GUIs can be rearranged.

I've discovered time and again that sometimes, you may be overqualified than the person interviewing you, but for the sake of pride, will attempt to rubbish you. I've walked out on interviews halfway cos the interviewer's spewing utter rubbish.

The only shortcut keys applicable are Ctrl +b,i,u and some few ones like copy and paste, then undo and what have you. The shortcut keys were made for people who do not like to use the mouse or who do a lot on these apps.

Working with excel without knowing formulas will put you at a disadvantage.

Next time, ask your Word interviewer how to close the file with a shortcut key, minimize, maximize, make ALL caps, change font e.tc. with the shortcut keys and see if they can do that too.

Absolute brainless dummies! cheesy

N:B: there are shortcut keys for those as well. (I had to learn those when my mouse went bad) I even learnt to move the mouse with the arrow keys shocked

I don't know where dude was when Cech kept his net clean for plenty of hours consecutively (at the national level)

@ 4Play,

Thanks for that Analysis on Owen. I hate to compare a 21st century striker with a 20th century one, moreover decades apart. Owen is one of the paciest strikers i've ever seen. I'm not comparing him with Pele cos there is no basis for that but Owen is one of the players i respect a whole lot.

His last season @ madrid was termed disappointing yet he netted 16 goals in 25 games, mostly coming on as a sub. I won't say he's overrated, but for the swapping of morientes and some change here and there, I don't think he's been overrated money-wise either.

If you have another good deal for 70k, I have a friend who's interested. PM me and i'll give him your number or vise versa.

But I need to remind you that that is obviously not the best deal in town for a refurbished lappie and most people won't likely jump @ the offer. The 80GB and DVD RW is mostly appealing but you can do better than that.
