What would make sense is for Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun to come together under O'Odua group of companies to form a single Power generating company to deliver electricity to all the states. With 3 power plants in say Lagos, Ogun and Ondo, the electricity could feed into the main electricity receiving point for these states. That will likely be more cost effective than each state going it alone. |
seanfer:I doubt this very much. Except maybe to some huge industrial clusters that can take large amounts of electricty. Electricity is not like sim card you can just change your provider at any time. Even abroad where you can switch providers, its still only one distribution network everyone feeds into. |
Shikena:Are you comparing Obasanjo, a former Millitary Head of State, with his National connections and networks with Sowore!!?? Besides, the circumstances are different. Obasanjo had just come out of jail and the Presidency had been zoned to South West due to the Abiola issue, so due to his clout and sentiment for him being in jail he was able to pick a ticket. If I recall it was him and Olu Falae that contested. |
ProudImolite:Many people have forgotten that the gas belongs to FG not state. Although FG and State and oil companies can collaborate and sign agreements, but people on here just saying this state has this and the other state has that doesnt make stuff automatic |
Anchuna:Good point. Although I think the intent of the new clause in the constitution is to enable states generate and distribute with existing networks if they also choose. States do not have to create new distribution networks. Sobif Lagos state creates an IPP and contracts with EKEDC to supply into its network, EKEDC can then distribute. Before now, electricity generated by a lagos IPP would need to go into the national grid and would not be dedicated to the residents of Lagos. That's the difference now I believe. This way they also bypass national transmission infrastructure. However, if EKEDC then has too much electricity, it can then on sell into the national grid. Or if Lagos IPP produces 800MW and EKEDC only needs 600MW, then the balance can go into national grid. |
DankemzI:Oga calm down. No single power plant in Nigeria has A capacity of over 1500Mw, so not sure where your 5000MW for Ibom Power is coming from. Besides having 24hr power in a state alone is not a golden ticket for industrialization. What if Lagos, Ogun Oyo, Rivers, Plateau, Nassarawa, FCT all achieve 24hr power as well, so what would necessarily make me site my plant in Akwa Ibom instead of Ogun or Oyo state? |
Don't all these amendments still have to go to all the State House Houses of Assembly? Can someone clarify please?? |
wagazala:He's been watching too much CSI Miami!! ![]() |
Amojii:I believe its being built by the private sector though! |
A tight convoy like this should be easy target for drone strikes. |
It would make more sense for Sowore to contest for Senate or House of Reps. He is popular his area, so that would be far more winnable. |
Heffalump:Because on the flip side you refuse fuel subsidy removal!!! And please no one should come at me with Saudi and UAE etc subsidies fuel. Check the populations f those countries and check Nigerias. Check the smuggling out in those countries and check Nigeria, check corruption in those countries and check Nigeria. |
davodyguy:Those are people with zero knowledge of economics. For a mono product economy like ours, twice under Buhari crude oil got to $10, so what do you expect to happen to naira. No matter what President we had, the situation would have been dire. Although having said that Buhari is also a useless President for many other reasons. |
ChiefSosa:Don’t make it seem like it’s only politicians or big men. We are ALL lunatics in this country. Just come and see traffic in Lagos on a Sunday because or anyhow driving to enter filling station and blocking road for everyone else!! |
Perfectbeing:It's probably only 5 hours because it's so damn slow though. Manchester to London is about 2 hrs or 2.3hrs. Not sure warri to Itakpe its much further than that |
Omooba77:You are comparing the comfort of Nigerian 14 seater buses at Ojodu berger to those trains! Really!!? |
obi4eze:So complain about salaries being too low! That's a different conversation, but all things considered the train fares are cheap. What I'd like is for the speed to increase. |
Mooh247:Very sad statement by you |
They should have sentenced him to death!!! |
Pierocash:That policy you are referring to has not started o. CBN governor clearly said by the end of this year |
helinues:So if somebody comes to rape your wife and female children, you go siddon del look abi? As bad as the situation is for Ukrainians, this patriotic attitude is why they will still make a success of their country in the future. Unlike us Nigerians that queue outside our politicians balconies to scavenge for money (our money) thrown from upstairs by our leaders. |
UBA should just cancel it. What can $20 buy. It can barely buy anything in dirt cheap Walmart. Cannot barely pay for a meal other than junk food!! |
mrvitalis:Like a Bible parable says 'he who cannot manage little, cannot manage a lot' How does nobody holding you but you help the man on the street? If 100% of the oil revenue in Bayelsa is given to Bayelsa to manage and its all stolen, does it benefit the man on the street to know that it was a Bayelsan that sole the money and not somebody from Zamfara? The useless politics of the center is the same in the States. |
SultanOfPuna:It seems you are angling for WW3 abi? Getting directly involved is a No, No for US/NATO. Officially Ukraine is not a NATO country. If Russia crosses Ukraine into Poland, Romania, Hungary that's when problem will really start and the West will have no choice. But bear in mind that a proper war between Russia and NATO could mean nuclear weapons at some point. It's just a case of who would use them first. And that does not leave the rest of the world , including Nigeria, without severe consequences. So please this is not Call of Duty on PS5!! There is a limit to what anyone could have done to Putin. Its the same way there is not a lot we can do against our own useless leaders here, considering the entire political system is rigged in their favor. |
404Dev:All our houses in Nigeria have tall fences, gate men and so on. the typical house abroad has no fence - you just walk up to the door. Does that help explain the level of insecurity we are dealing with vs the western world?? I rest my case |
sunboy:Well said, i could easily see myself in a nice Bungalow in an estate in Ghana if Nigeria doesn't make sense. Even South Africa sef. |
Hamsongee07:There are pros and cons to both. Some people are doing well here, but they just want to live in a sane environment where things work and outcomes are somewhat predictable, despite it being more expensive. Some people are not doing well in Nigeria yet have no desire to leave. They would rather continue the struggle here. You just have to decide what you want for yourself and what is important to you. For me, I would say I am doing well as i work for a multinational, yet I also desire to move abroad cos Nigeria worries me (ritual killing, kidnappers on the expressway, robbers in traffic, nothing works, touts and omo onile everywhere, filth everywhere, traffic everywhere and it just seems like we have no clue how to solve our problems) and I am just tired of it all. Having said that America or UK is also not a bed of roses and for someone doing well in Nigeria, moving abroad in some ways can be a step down financially. I can confidently say I have more savings than most Americans. I hear most Americans cannot cover a $5000 emergency payment. They live pay check to paycheck. And if you have equivalent income as a typical American, even 50% of that, you will save more here. For eg if you earn N1.5mln a month, which is just $3k and an American earns $6k a month, there is a good chance you will have more saved at the end of the month in Nigeria cos their bills takes everything away, but then perhaps you can be happy in the knowledge that you are in a place where things work. Of course the issue is that very few people earn N1.5mln a month In Nigeria. Also you do not want to be sick in America. It can ruin you financially. Sometimes even with insurance. That's where UK and Europe are much better as medical bills there are either totally free or a fraction (like 10%) of what it costs in US. Even me that's considering relocating, I'd do it for only 10years to secure my kids education, then I'd rather find somewhere else where the cost of living is lower than Yankee or UK. $3k a month will go like twice the distance in Portugal or Spain or Malaysia than in US. If Nigeria seems to have stabilised by then, i could even move back home, cos when you earn in dollars and you have like $3k amonth (N1.6mln in today's money), Nigeria is actually very cheap. It's just the stress that's too much. Maybe by then, Ibadan or Abeokuta will make more sense than this crazy Lagos. |
Although I don't support Tinubu for president, my joy is that NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE can be as bad as Buhari. If Nigeria is unfortunate to get a president that's even worse than Buhari, then the country will turn to a warzone by 2030 and all of us will turn to refugees!!! |
deltaprincess:until they can no longer talk coherently and they are shaking with Parkinson and wetting themselves abi. So in your mind, Mugabe was the wisest President in the world!! |
[quote author=CitynewsNG post=110472020] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yljw_5v2Vfo Source: Jubril. A. Gawat on Twitter maybe Tinubu really is 69!! Cos if that was 2000 and he's 69 now that means he was 47 then and to be fair in that video he's looking about that age. Maybe he just hasn't aged well!! ![]() |
irririchris:Just look at that movement from 1981 to 2001!! Just 20years!! From a rich man to a bloody poor man in just 20years!! |
Rilwayne001:I |
