No 1 is saying that it's rocket science . The fact is the bus did not have a camera system . Now that this has happened i'm sure they will put camera systems for future buses and even exist ones that do not have .

Lots of roads across the country will soon be tolled per the highway initiative,so stop crying blue murder. Besides in lagos we had been subject to tolls for years.

What you said right now got me thinking seriously,if my state government can build and operate a functional refinery,even as a non oil producing state,it will generate enormous income for the state.
Imagine,buying crude oil from NNPC,refine it and come out with like over 20 finished petroleum products like petrol,diesel,kerosene,jet fuel,engine oil,infact they are many,you think that state will be waiting for federal allocation?Never.
And the state will be self sufficient,also petroleum products will be available in the country.
Only if there is seriousness on the side of the government and leakages are blocked to avoid corruption.

The margins from refining crude are very, very thin. So to make good money, you have to operate a a large scale, hence why Dangotes refinery is so large and su.ported by petrochemical and fertilizer. And operated competently by the private sector. Trust me, no state will be able to build a large enough plant and run it competently enough to make money.

As you should know by now, government in Nigeria, whether state or FG are the worst operators of business globally!!

Ahead of the inauguration of the Anambra International Convention Center, Awka on Wednesday, 9th March, 2022, Governor Willie Obiano today, 5th March, 2022 inspected the project for on the spot assessment.

The Governor was accompanied by the old boys association of Christ The King College- CKC, Onitsha.

Pictures portray finishing touches being made ahead of the commissioning ceremony which will feature awards presentations among other side attractions.

The Commissioner for Housing, Architect Michael Okonkwo was on ground to conduct the Governor and guests round the facility.

The thing holding the lights could have been better integrated into the design to make it a bit hidden. It looks a bit tacky just hanging down there in plain sight,

Also the chairs on the sides on the upper level could have been angled 45 degrees to face the stage. The stage is the center of attraction. Not the opposite wall!! And I shouldn’t suffer neck pain just to look at the stage.

Otherwise, it’s a decent facility. Hope it has sufficient and top notch toilet facilities.

We are comparing solar to other equivalent energy sources, not to your or anyone's ability to afford a solar system.

It's not impossible, it's just grossly expensive given the other cheaper and more viable alternatives.

We are a third world country, we don't have money to throw around on experimental green energy that costs more in the long run to operate and maintain and are not as efficient.

It's all about cost, efficiency and feasibility.

Dude, are you not aware that solar and wind have reached parity with other sources and in many countries even cheaper?

The battery is not meant to 100% cover at night. It's just a way to smoothen demand and supply curves and keep the system going, especially during peak demand.

The cost benefit of the batteries would be positive, especially when you consider the cost of downtime of a power plant.

Instrumental that Obasanjo repaid debts with crude at an average of $55. Although production in that time was much higher than now, cos bunkering was at a minimum and militancy did not exist.

Also, keeping subsidy means continued deficit budgets and more debt and no refineries. And more issues for our economy. You want that?

If there is no subsidy petrol would be about N380-N420 at current crude prices. I know this cos in most countries I go to, petrol is just slightly cheaper than diesel.

Batteries can only give out what they store. What happens when demand exceeds supply? Given that the bulk of energy use happens to occur in the evenings, when you no longer have sunlight and have to rely on stored energy.

What happens when Batteries don't get enough charge because the day was cloudy or it rained all day?

My dear, what happens then?

Don't let those countries fool you. They all have gas, hydro, nuclear or coal fired power plants that make up their base electricity supply.

Solar power, at this present stage, can only be used as a complementary source of power for any medium to large scale application. Solar can't soley power industries or big communities.

However, they do work very well in small scale/isolated applications. Even at that, the cost or maintaining and changing batteries is a big factor.

Did anybody suggest that Solar and Wind should suddenly become 100% of Nigeria's electricity? The same way it complements in other countries is the same way it will complement here. My point was that if some countries are doing 30%+ from solar/wind, then its definitely a viable option for us too, particularly solar.

Remember that all states are still connected to the national grid. So if Nasarawa requires 100MW to power the state, it can sign an agreement with a company to build and provide 50MW solar plant that will be dedicated to Nasarawa state, with say 10MW battery capacity. So during the day, solar complements what they are getting from the National grid and during the night battery kicks in to complement what's coming from National grid. The battery can also serve as a sort of spinning reserve, to keep the system stable.

In fact the electricity consumption in some states is so low that a single large scale solar plant can solve all of their day time requirements.

Besides, some states have good capacity for wind and solar and you may find that wind blows better at night.

When appliances directly take energy from the panels, what happens when the sun suddenly dies down in the afternoon or it suddenly gets cloudy? Do they go off or what?

All the countries championing solar power don't use it as a main source of energy. They only use it to make up or complement what they already have.

The bigger your energy demands the more unsustainable solar energy becomes.

It's great for small to medium scale use. But it's still very limited.

Batteries my dear!! There are batteries in the MW capacity that can bridge the gap. There are some countries that are doing up to 50% of their electricity from Solar/Wind.

You are right but it depends on how the power is generated. The problem still is, the natural resources are been controlled by the federal government. Anambra has enough gas but FG will determine how much they will get it as fuel to generate the electricity...meaning the masses will still pay for the huge cost. The solution to Nigeria as a country is let every state manage her resources, trust me ONE NIGERIA will start making sense to everybody.

The cost of bringing gas out of the ground for use is not materially different if Anambra state controlled it compared to FG!! There is no huge cost being levied on you by any FG.

Just be ready to pay for electricity at the economically viable price, whoever is bringing it out of the ground. And not have this backward mentality that because it belongs to your state, it should be or will be cheap!!

We need to drastically reduce the cost of governance, first by restructuring to true federalism and resource control

So that people can utilize what they earn

By so doing, there won't be need of dependence on Federal allocation which has made most governors lazy and wasteful

How does restructuring and resource control reduce the COST of governance? Those may increase revenue, but not reduce cost.

We should reduce cost by FIRING like 40% of Civil Service. Many of them are unproductive and unqualified. Too much of the work in Ministries and Parastatals is inefficient. We need to go big on digitalization and computerization to make people more productive. And of course block loopholes by Political Appointees. With all the monies being looted in Nigeria and a lot of it being held in cash, it boggles the mind how people are able to withdraw billions in cash from government accounts. Left to me, it should be illegal to to withdraw more than N500k in cash. People need to get comfortable again with cheques , bank drafts and electronic transfers.

Exactly. No pro-restructuring bill scaled through under Saraki Senate. He used all his powers as Senate president to oppose the executive not even for genuine public interest but for political ends. Imagine a bill as simple as devolution of powers to states failed under Saraki. Another bill on social security for the aged failed as Saraki himself argued that the Nigerian government doesn't yet have the resources to sustain such program. Saraki was a waste honestly.

But really, where is the money for Social Security for aged when we are spending N3trln on subsidy!!? Meanwhile there is subsidy also in electricity and railway.

I've never believed that those importing gens are stopping us from having electricity.

We simply do not have electricity because we have an incompetent government and a corrupt one as well.

Redemption Camp and Covenant University have some sort of turbine so i hear and they have 24hr electricity. Why did those importing gens not stop them?

This is just the kind of thing we like to conjure up when we are looking for a reason as to why things do not work.

What would make sense is for Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun to come together under O'Odua group of companies to form a single Power generating company to deliver electricity to all the states.

With 3 power plants in say Lagos, Ogun and Ondo, the electricity could feed into the main electricity receiving point for these states. That will likely be more cost effective than each state going it alone.

I doubt this very much. Except maybe to some huge industrial clusters that can take large amounts of electricty. Electricity is not like sim card you can just change your provider at any time.

Even abroad where you can switch providers, its still only one distribution network everyone feeds into.

Besides, the circumstances are different. Obasanjo had just come out of jail and the Presidency had been zoned to South West due to the Abiola issue, so due to his clout and sentiment for him being in jail he was able to pick a ticket. If I recall it was him and Olu Falae that contested.

Many people have forgotten that the gas belongs to FG not state. Although FG and State and oil companies can collaborate and sign agreements, but people on here just saying this state has this and the other state has that doesnt make stuff automatic

Good point. Although I think the intent of the new clause in the constitution is to enable states generate and distribute with existing networks if they also choose. States do not have to create new distribution networks.

Sobif Lagos state creates an IPP and contracts with EKEDC to supply into its network, EKEDC can then distribute.

Before now, electricity generated by a lagos IPP would need to go into the national grid and would not be dedicated to the residents of Lagos. That's the difference now I believe.

This way they also bypass national transmission infrastructure. However, if EKEDC then has too much electricity, it can then on sell into the national grid. Or if Lagos IPP produces 800MW and EKEDC only needs 600MW, then the balance can go into national grid.

Akwa Ibom State has Ibom Power plant (IPP) with a 5,000 capacity and plans to expand to 15,000 which is achivable with our massive gas reserve!
This will make Akwa Ibom the most industrialized state in the Niger Delta

Oga calm down. No single power plant in Nigeria has A capacity of over 1500Mw, so not sure where your 5000MW for Ibom Power is coming from.

Besides having 24hr power in a state alone is not a golden ticket for industrialization. What if Lagos, Ogun Oyo, Rivers, Plateau, Nassarawa, FCT all achieve 24hr power as well, so what would necessarily make me site my plant in Akwa Ibom instead of Ogun or Oyo state?

Don't all these amendments still have to go to all the State House Houses of Assembly? Can someone clarify please??
