It's bedbugs, not "invisible insects". hermionepotter: Hello, guys. For the past two weeks I've been getting bitten on my bed by invisible insects. I've tried and checked for everything; bedbugs, biting midges, mosquitoes. I've cleaned and disinfected my entire room, and yet it continues. I've searched the mattress and even torn it open and I've not found even one single insect. It became so terrible I had to spray insecticides on my bed before I could sleep. But I still wake up with bite marks.
My friend thinks the dry cleaner I give my clothes who hand-washes it might have used juju on my bedsheet or something. We are in Nigeria so we all know this is possible. Also, I started refusing to give her foodstuff and other things because she kept asking for more. Please help. |

Go to YouTube. Search for "Pinecreek Doug". Watch his videos. Mayyvin: I'm not exactly sure how this started.
I used to always begin my day with prayers and studying the Bible. But of late, I've been finding it difficult to continue this practise.
I also have no desire to go to church anymore. I find I don't learn anything from the Bible whenever I attend. Either I'm too busy working (I'm a worker), or the sermons mostly borders on how to attain wordly success—things I can easily pull up from one of Anthony Robbin's motivational books.
I'm involved in a lot of things in church. I occupy several leadership positions (which I didn't ask for) and every Sunday feels like an office meeting.
I get home feeling drained and tired after several meetings. I don't learn anything from church and I no longer feel the passion I used to have.
I dunno what's happening. My spiritual life is wearing thin. |

If a man is rich and never helps his wife financially I don't think the marriage would work, but it's usually not an issue because men are expected to provide for their wives. This discussion is derailing the thread (thread was for relationships not the historicity of Jesus). The documentation for the Bible is very poor by historical standards. Tacitus' reliability is also largely questioned for many reasons. Not least of which is the fact that he was in Rome, not Jerusalem, Galilee, etc. You could create another thread for the historicity. Lollittaa: I'm not even trying to convince you. I'm stating a fact. There were many Christus. And many people were executed on the cross. But one man, one Christus, executed on the cross, sparked a new movement. Historians wrote for a reason. To document facts so those coming after can read of what happened in days gone by. Two things are involved. Either they both lied. Or they told the truth. You can say Josephus was favourably biased, since he an Israeli. How about Tacitus who was a Roman, who wasn't even a Jew. Facts are facts. I'm only responding to your earlier submission that Paul was the founder of Christianity. |
Culture › Re: Atheist Marriage In Nigeria by cooooooks(op): 1:38pm On Nov 15, 2021 |
There were many Christus in those times. Mere mentioning isn't proof of anything. Nne, I've heard all these arguments. The best Apologists generally fail to be convincing. Lollittaa: you read of Josephus. But did you read his writings? Besides Flavius Josephus who was a Jewish historian, Gaius Tacitus, a roman historian, also mentioned a "Christus" and Christians who were named after him. . |

The first books were written by Paul. The only person who claimed to have seen Jesus, and put their name there, was Paul. Even then, it was a vision. Lollittaa: Paul wrote many books, but Christ is the founder of Christianity. He called himself "The Way" and when Christianity spread outside Isreal, early Christians were called "followers of the way" even before Saul was converted. And if you'll say Saul is the founder, how come he had to report to James the Great, half brother of Jesus and the apostles at Jerusalem? Catholics might argue Peter was in charge, but it was actually James who was in charge. Never Saul-Paul. If it were, historians like Josephus would have attested to his leadership. |

Religion in Nigeria is especially callous. Strangely enough, some Nigerian religionistas would not attend a church that does not focus on prosperity gospel. People are poor and are hoping for a miracle or lottery.
Gambling, debt, drinking, and drug use are all very high in our country.

Culture › Re: Atheist Marriage In Nigeria by cooooooks(op): 6:20am On Nov 15, 2021 |
Nigeria is uber-religious, albeit nominally. The thread is a space for people who have navigated the marrying waters. If a Nigerian wakes up and arbitrarily removes all nominally religious people from consideration, they would be left with a very shallow pool to choose from. This is before considering other, more important, issues: compatibility, general good-naturedness, actual attraction. Your interpretation of Paul's letter (the actual founder of the religion) is not the majority, a strong minority. People will still generally come up against "unequally yoked" mantra; even if they are a different 'type' of Christian. I do think marriage is a partnership regardless of religion/or lack thereof. Kobojunkie: Navigating what religion issue? You mean dating or marrying a religious partner? But why do that at all? Why get involved with that kind of headache at all?
jesus Christ, the one who Christians actually obey, have His followers freedom where it concerns marriage, only stipulation is equality...in marriage a man is equal to his wife, no such thing as one being head over the other. Paul's statement on being un-equally yoked is grossly misconstrued by the religion, but then that is what many religious folks tend to do a lot of. :
As for family, marriage is a partnership between a man and a woman. So they get to decide what their dealings with extended family will be, this as a couple. |

Do you worship Paul or Jesus?? What did Jesus/God tell Peter in Acts 10/11? When Jesus turned water to wine, was it Eva wine?? They said he had "saved the best for last". Tallesty1: That's what the whole Romans chapter 14 is about but he was more specific in verse 21.
He called on Christians to consider the weakness of others before pursuing their own enjoyment.
21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. |

Nigeria was not always this religious. You do not have to stay in the religion/society. Mashgash: I Don't Feel at Home With the Religion & Society I was Born Into. Do U Feel The Same?
I don't like the religion and the tendencies of the society I found myself into.
I'm honest, straightforward, educated, open-minded, liberal and modern, but the people in my region are dishonest, shady, ignorant (not just illiterates), close-minded, awfully ultraconservative, hypocrites and very backward.
I'm literally a misfit among such type of people.
Such feeling of being social misfit led many people convert from one religion to another, or people migrate and settle in another city, region, country or even continent, not in search of greener pasture, but peace of mind. This is the reason why a top government official with a promising career, such as a diplomat or a spy, suddenly defect to an "enemy" country. For e.g., a Russian spy, with a lucrative career, will abandon everything and defect to Britain, putting his life in jeopardy along the line.
There are such kind of people in any given society, but they might be few.
What is your opinion? Do you feel you don't belong to the society you were born and living in? Why?
Don't be stingy, do share with us, please. |
