Barbie514: Fiji is not a place to hustle! I hear Nigeria too is not a place to hustle. Living in ordinary Benin (Cotonou is far more better than Nigeria.
“Fiji of all places” so I should gamble with the money I don’t have to process USA, Canada, Aussie or Schengen visa so that I can wait till I have grey hair here in Nigeria ... u do well! Thank you oh! If you're opening a hotel or have a ton of money to invest, Fiji definitely works for you. But for regular people, Fiji just doesn't have the economy. Nigeria is honestly better. A guy selling tomatoes can do better for himself than the average Fijian. Most people there are trying to take advantage of what I believe to be a guaranteed visa to Australia or New Zealand. The rest are working in hotels, or living off the land. Their high gdp is misleading. It appears the tourism dollars (which they rely heavily on) go mostly to foreigners and corrupt politicians. Consider this: FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT POVERTY IN FIJI
Fiji is a widely visited holiday destination. The country is well-known for being home to some of the happiest people on earth. However, for decades Fiji has been suffering from the issue of growing poverty and inequality. Here are five facts about poverty in Fiji.
1. Since the first military coup in 1987, poverty in Fiji has continued to increase. The coup resulted in political instability leading to a decline in economic performance and a growing issue of poverty.
2. In Fiji, 45% of the population lives below the national poverty line, more than 250,000 individuals. According to economic surveys over 50% of the population lives on less than FJD$ 25 a week and cannot meet their basic needs. The increase over time is apparent — in 1977, 15% of the population were living below the poverty rate, in 1991 this increased to 25.2% and in 2003 to about 34.4%. Professor Biman Prasad argues that the incidence of poverty is now more than 45% and approaching 50%.
3. Households with education below the secondary level are at greater risk of poverty. A significant percentage of individuals in Fiji do not attend secondary school due to a lack of income. According to Save the Children Fund Fiji of 1998, 65% of school dropouts are directly linked to poverty. The cost of transportation and school fees force many families to stop sending their kids to school. Additionally, many of the schools are in poor conditions in need of basic materials. Nonetheless, in 2014 the government announced universal free access to primary and secondary education for all children, hoping to lower the rate of school dropouts.
4. According to the latest estimates, more than 140,000 individuals live in over 200 informal settlements. More than 13,000 of these native land leases will expire between 1997 and 2028, meaning that if they are not renewed, at least five households are displaced for every expired lease.
5. The income gap between the rich and the poor is very wide and continues to increase. Fiji’s traditional tribal structure is still preserved meaning the land is controlled by tribal chiefs who acquire most of the economic benefit. To make matters worse, Fiji is in the midst of a trade deal that economists predict will increase the poverty rate and inequality gap. The Pacific Plan, together with the Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement (PICTA) and the Pacific Agreement on Closer Economic Relations (PACER) trade agreements partnered and tied with a regional economic zone.
Despite the apparent rate of poverty in Fiji, many politicians and diplomats in Fiji deny the problem and downplay its importance.
– Marcelo Guadiana An underlying concern is that tourism policy in Fiji encourages development of large, foreign-owned resorts, while indigenous businesses often do not receive the support they require to be successful in the long term. Thus, indigenous Fijian participation in the tourism sector is predominantly as employees or as recipients of lease monies, and rarely as those directly involved in tourism planning and development, therefore limiting the pro-poor potential of the sector in Fiji. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/09669582.2011.629049?src=recsys&journalCode=rsus20#_i5 |

You do not want to go to China. https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/05/05/china-covid-19-discrimination-against-africans#Landlords then evicted African residents, forcing many to sleep on the street, and hotels, shops, and restaurants refused African customers. Other foreign groups have generally not been subjected to similar treatment.
“Chinese authorities claim ‘zero tolerance’ for discrimination, but what they are doing to Africans in Guangzhou is a textbook case of just that,” said Yaqiu Wang, China researcher at Human Rights Watch. “Beijing should immediately investigate and hold accountable all officials and others responsible for discriminatory treatment.”
On April 12, Guangdong authorities announced that all foreigners in the province must accept “Covid-19 prevention and containment measures” including “testing, sampling and quarantine.” In practice, the authorities just targeted Africans for forced testing and quarantine. They visited homes of African residents, testing them on the spot or instructing them to take a test at a hospital. Some were ordered to self-isolate at home with surveillance cameras or alarms installed outside of their apartments.
There was no evident scientific basis for the policy. Most imported cases of Covid-19 to the province were Chinese nationals returning from abroad. Many Africans had already tested negative for coronavirus, had no recent travel history, or had not been in contact with known Covid-19 patients. And that's the least of what they do to African people. They murder their own people or ship them to gulags with no hesitation, so why would you want to be there? |

I don’t know where to start from There's really good threads on it. Canada's website is also excellent. Go back and take some time to carefully review. You can also email immigration and provincial resources about these details, but please don't do so unless you've thoroughly reviewed other resources. |

How about another option? Go abroad and set up a nice life for yourself back home. Let's be honest. No one really wants to leave. Even those comfortable abroad always think about home. Use that foreign money to set a bunch of businesses up. Build a home. Save a bit. Maybe get some investment real estate abroad. Then go home and live like a king. Early retirement basically. You can spend the rest of your days starting more businesses or acquiring more investment real estate. https://invoice.ng/blog/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/richest-man-and-woman-in-nigeria.jpg |
