Really? You must be a kid who doesn't understand the impact year-over-year corruption, neglect, lack of patriotism and cohesive national focus on things like an international competition like the Olympics. So, can you explain how Nigeria has gone from the powerhouse of sports (in Africa) in the 90s and progressively becoming irrelevant while growing to a population of 170 M? What is the population of those countries (probabilistically, higher population implies more athletes), level of corruption, cohesive national plan or drive for anything really including sports, etc? Or you mean it is just by chance that Nigeria although has grown in population, but cannot now win even a single medal again? Okay, why not provide your data and sources on funding and preparation for the Olympics??

Nigerians have been crying over the country's disappointment at the Olympics but hardly has anyone tried to consider what successful countries are doing in long term continuous investment to guarantee such stellar performance. While there may be publications of such by other countries, I have only laid my hands on that by the US and I present it here for you consideration. This is mostly money spent by the sports association of each sport. As a simple reference, the US Olympics team spent $232 M in 2008 for Beijing 2008 for 110 medals which translates to approximately N 35 B or N 320 M per medal. Note this does not include continuous investment in their sports at recreational, hobby, local etc where anyone can just go to a standard basketball or tennis court to play all day or night with his friends. How much has Nigerian governments invested in its people for the people to expect medals? The billions stolen by Nigerian leaders and defended by their tribesmen on NLand is what should have been spent on Nigerian athletes. We have the people but no matter how gifted an amateur (Nigerian) is, he will never compete with professionals who are also gifted (assuming to a slightly or more extent) but 4+ years of professional top class preparation and exposure since 5 years old to good facilities, food, competition, etc!

Team USA will pay a hefty price for its share of the gold, silver and bronze at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, but even the medals table has a bargain bin.

The U.S. Olympic Committee shelled out more than $232 million in 2008 to help American athletes win 110 medals in Beijing -- the site of the previous Summer Olympic Games. This is a good development in some way, bad in other ways! However in order to claim indigenship of a state, you will need to inculcate a new way of life, learn and speak the language, eat their foods, learn the culture and abide by it! No compromises on this one otherwise, you can never be accepted! Otherwise, insulting your hosts would only lead to wide-spread bloodshed and killiings eventually.

Some parts of Nigeria will also now need more than twice / three times the next allocation of the next state in size because more people mean more resources. I think Lagos can cope, it's got historically smart capable leadership which must now be backed up with more resources for infrastructural development. More land may need to be leased from Ogun and Oyo state for the influx of people from every corner of the country. I hope the governors of this state can embark on real planning of big cities so that they cities can grow in a planned manner and not become utter chaos in 5 - 10 years! I see the SW growing in influence, clout, development and making triilions in taxes in the eventual scheme of things. States who have only been stealing all the money they get will now have to provide leadership to an empty state since everyone will go to where they have the best!

Statistically, Nigeria with a population of ~160 M should be kicking Jamaica's ~3 M people in athletics! The probability that there's no one faster or almost as fast as Bolt in Nigeria is almost 0. However, while one country discovers their talent at early age, help them develop and get well trained another one stole all its people money by corruption. No wonder the country is a joke at the Olympics!

Fantababy, I read your posts quite well and upset with how your husband has treated you! In fact, you wrote quite well otherwise I would not have bothered with venturing a post after all other people have said. A good man should treat his wife well and better when pregnant, sick or difficult circumstances. That said, this post and many others will not undo the past but it will do at least two things: 1. Help you, going forward 2. Help others to avoid a situation like yours.

1. If your man is a fantastic guy like you claimed, well he will need some time to be completely rounded around all the edges. Until then, you will have to gently tell him how you feel, until he gets it. A guy like him will find it annoying if you are emotional all the time because while women think this helps, some men will find it annoying like a little kid who always wants something to be done for him when he could just do it. So, you have to deal with situations both mentally, before emotionally, this is the only way things could get easier. If you don't want to make a bad situation worse, don't alienate him like some people have suggested except you want something potentially worse: divorce. I wish you the best!

Now to the other point, which will help someday help other posters / readers: this kind of situation happens happens when a woman ignores the guys who truly love them, leaves him and do anything to marry the one who will ill treat you and don't give a shaite if you die or live, really. After the marriage, all the pretexts fade away and the real person emerges. I know some women who have been through or in this situations now. If a man is so useless, uncaring, narcissistic, proud, self-centered, etc, there's nothing you will do that will please him. The only way to avoid stupid prayers about devils like these is to avoid them - flee actually. But will women listen? In a few days time, there will be worse stories of another girl who has refused to heed any wise counsel and starts praying, fasting, crying, etc but why not use that time to smile, be happy, relax, have fun, have se[b]x[/b], etc by staying with the guy who truly loves you? You will have such peace, in the morning, day, night and midnight; yet tomorrow, it starts all over again! Assuming Eziachi who has to work and take care of his family and personal responsibilities, goes out to take the poor kid, he would have done a noble deed! If one's parents emigrated from their country and their children are born in a new country, those children born in that new country are citizens and people of that new country by nationality. Their heritage is elsewhere, but where they are born and raised is their home. Nigeria had nothing to do directly in forming those athletes, so why do they feel obligated to claim them? With all the corruption, tribalism, bribery, materialism, lack of institutions, etc, how can great athletes, or even other people striving for greatness with real raw talent survive in Nigeria? Not that people are not successful in Nigeria, but it's hard to do it based on sole merit and hard work. If you have money and connections, it's a lot easier. It's always North vs South, East vs West, Politics, titles-- "Who you be" or "Do you know who I am?" Enemies of Progress. A nation that eats their young by refusing to invest in them to foster a brighter tomorrow. It takes a lot of dedication and investing in talent to refine it to greatness. Let these athletes be. They are not obligated to represent Nigeria simply because of their surname. They are representing their respective homes. Nigerian governments recently was embroiled in a scandal of $8.6 B, most of which was stolen by less than 200 individuals led by Odechukwu. That is over a N 1 Tr, yet no functional institutions, organization or sporting infrastructure.
