They should release a 'computer set' for the ps3 that includes a branded, home-friendly OS and a wireless mouse+keyboard, in effect turning the ps3 into a super-powered gamemachine+mac mini hybrid! That will be AWESOME! but of course $600 is too cheap for that, hmmm,

Its cool if u think great graphics are the way to go. No problem there. However to set the record straight- remember when we were arguing about the power of ps3 relative to xbox? Isnt it funny that all games released on both platforms were identical? Even on the ps2 vs dreamcast they were not identical. And then theres Gears of war which is better than everything on the ps3.

Devs need time? Maybe. But mario 64 sure looked miles better than all ps1 games. Sonic sure looked better than all NES games. Streetfighter sure looked better han all genesis games. ff7 sure looked better than all saturn games. And all multiplatform xbox games looked better on xbox than ps2 despite ps2 being out for 2 years plus. Somehow i dont think 'devs need time' is valid in this case.

Face it: the cell is overhyped. Core 2 duo's are already outperforming it with all its 'spe's' or whatever. And consoles have always been more defined by their gfaphics cards than their processors. The cell is NOT for bam graphics. thats the RSX. and pc's have already left it in the dust. Look- the ps3 isnt ushering in a new world of graphics. PC's do that, year after year.

The only new console that is really doing anything innovative is wii. And since i love games with bam graphics (like you) I bought a 360 cos it has more games, better games, and better graphics than anything ps3 has put out at the moment. Maybe when killzone comes out we'll change our minds but for now i own a copy of gears of war (YES I DO!!!! EXPRESS DELIVERY FROM YANKEE! BY A CHICK WHO ACTUALLY WAITED IN LINE TO GET IT FOR ME!!! SAY I ROCK! OOOOOOH YEAAH!!!!!!!!) and there is NOTHING on ps3 to touch it!

800 dollars is too much to spend on a game console.

If the ps3 recieves an inexpensive keyboard/mouse solution (eg plus in usb HID-compliant devices, or bluetooth HID -compliant devices, or even a sony attachment less than $20) then, coupled with linux compatibility, it may suddenly become a worthwhile purchase.

However only God knows how sony intends to sell this bizarre device. It is too expensive for gamers, it isnt a full computer straight out of the box, even if it becomes one, sony won't profit from programs written for it, and even if it drives bluray adoption, it will b at a huge cost to sony.

Add to this the fact that HDTV's are still luxury commodities (there is NO afforable model) and the ps3/360's graphics are not that much better than the original xbox's on a standard tv and you have what appears to be a poorly timed kludge of a system.

Since I got my 360, the main attraction has been the online functionality, in particular the little arcade games and the online leaderboards. considering halo 2 is a drug in multiplayer mode, i can only imagine the hours i would have wasted on xbox live if broadband in Naija was a serious thing. The device has something to offer- xbox live. The improved graphics and hi-def support are just side-attractions.

1) You figures on zune, mmmmm. Amazon figures showed zune as 5th and 9th best selling (black/brown). 4th was a creative player, 123 were ipods of different colours. If they didnt group by colour, zune may have been 2nd best selling mp3 player, not bad for a new arrival.


2) A friend of mine opened my ipod mini and changed the battery! yes its possible! NON- DESTRUCTIVE! You just need to be a bit brave. It works perfectly and now has a new lease of life due to revamped battery life!

3) Wii will get soccer. Be patient.

If u want a ps3 u can get one now, the prices on ebay are actually dipping low to around 800 dollars, they will spike again as christmas approaches so start your 'runs' sharpsharp. And why would a ps3 get you interested in linux? Just grab a copy of linux user magazine, free distros on every cover dvd! Or use that your super link and download some ISO's already. I can already tell you that whatever crap sony puts on the ps3, it sure wont be linux for *real*, or the ps3 will become another psp, where people just buy it, install hoembrew, and play emulated games and downloaded ISO's.

APPLE CONSOLE?

Sounds good in theory. The mac mini is a great example of what an apple console will look like. very nice, clean, and (as steve jobs says) 'lickable' .

Also GIRLS AND WOMEN will like it, and many may buy it even if they never play it, because its nice and shiny! and records tv shows, and does other nice stuff with an INCREDIBLY EASY interface (i'm talking about a console derived from the mac mini, which already has many of these features)


unfortunately I'm sure they will fail in practice. The reason is that the console world is a WAR ZONE where simply making the best product is not enough, you have to FIGHT TOOTH AND NAIL against the others (in this case including SONY and MICROSOFT, both companies that HATE APPLE'S GUTS and have KICKED APPLE'S ARSE before) to win the support of devs.

No devs, no games. No games, no console. Hence, the mac mini was not marketed as the game console it could easily be.

another little tidbit: As steve jobs has saidd again and again, apple is a hardware company, not a software company, and in the video game world, "The name of the game is the GAMES" (Nintendo slogan).

microsoft and nintendo have forced sony's hand, and they will have their work cut out convincing devs to give them exclusive support like before, which is, by the way, the only reason they (or anyone else) has ever ruled the console market.Former PS3 exclusives like assasin's creed and GTA have already jumped ship to 360. finally, some little points:

AAC is NOT apple's intellectual property. Its the audio component of the MPEG4 audiovisual standards suite, which is an advanced version of the MPEG1 audiovisual suite, of which MP3 is the third 'layer' of the audio component. In short its MP3 but muchmuchmuch better.

Other players have their own DRM which is as bad as apples 'fairplay' system, and in most cases by far far worse. Apple allows you to transcode to WAV with no hasles, at which point you can do ANYTHING you like. WMA's can only be transcoded by hacking, and M$ is battling those hacker tools everyday. Also WMA is worse because it *IS* microsofts intellectual property, so decoding it alone, let alone hacking, is already illegal! Dude, the ipod's DRM is the least restrictive.

You hate ipod but it is the market leader despite being the most expensive and with the least features. Why? well because no-one has found a better controller than the scrollwheel, and seeking through long files (podcasts, audiobooks) is horrible on other players. Also, the strength and build qality of ipods is by far greater than the plasticky and tacky creative/archos players. I owned a creative rhomba and now own an ipod mini so I'm not talking out my arse

in 9ja you wont get a job as a straight up dba unless you are working for a multinational or a company that was recently restructured by an oyinbo-influenced consulting firm.

DBA work usually comes as an extra responsibility for either coders or system admins. If 'your' system requires database management, you will end up doing it. End result is that coosing DBA as a career path is, at the moment curently not a good idea.

Example: Company I work for. 10 developers, about twice that number of system administrators/network engineers, and at least 25 branch guys (jack of all trades, general IT guy for the branches).

we *do* have devs who should be called DBA's cos their work is nothing more than oracle, oracle oracle from morning to night, but they were employed as developers and not DBA's

my suggestion:
pursue a career in sys admin, software dev, or network engineering. DBA credentials are a great bonus for software dev or sys admin. Many places will not hire u as a dev if u dont have oracle. But dont just have Oracle ALONE, cos they will ask you 'can you code?' and when you say 'uuuuh, ' the story ends.

the second analogue stick has a huge deadzone, where such evil happens as cross-axis control drift (u move the x-azis and theres a little y-axis movement) . In xbopx360 games you never notice this cos the games dont recognise the middle area of the stick, but on the PC you need to manually configure deadzone to escape it, bleh,


no i dont use it for pc fps. Rememer, Halo is specially designed for tyhe pad, and is actuially not as good when played with a mouse. Not sop for other fps.

I agree the ps pad is good, and as a result of being good, it has grown on you. Also, it is an evolution of the snes pad, one of the best pads. Personally I dont mind it.

However, I am highlighting the things that made the 360 pad and the controller S before it by far better than the ps pad or the dualshock. *shrug*. maybe im mistaken.

dont confuse the controller s with the original humongous xbox controller o! the humongoid controller was crap, but MS learened their lesson.

Anyway let me pick some points from ure post to show you its more of a case of 'you dont know what you're missing':

1) Wont contest this. Its a matter of preference and you like the ps pad. The End. However try playing streetfighter before and after using a simple cross overlay and tell me you dont feel like throwing the pad in the nearest bin.

2) 2 rows of shoulderbuttons is cool! No problem! However it was never something to shout about. However everyone who has experienced the triggers on the controller S cant stop yapping about them. *shrug*. One improvememnt was designed to add something tangible, the other was just, 'oh heres more buttons. yawn.'

3) See, you turn it off. On the xbox you will NEVER turn it off. Thats the difference between a true enhancement and a 'bulet point' enhancement!

4) No i didnt say that they suck. As a matter of fact the left stick is quite good and as u rightly say, the N64 sticks are flimsy and weak, ive never seen a broken left stick on ps2 (seen many broke right sticks tho). What I meant was that they just slapped them on instead of doing the right thing and locating them where the d-pad is, and moving the d-pad down. This is such a nobrainer that EVERY MAJOR CONSOLE after ps did this- DC, GC, XBOX, 360 all have the left stick above the d-pad. Because the let stick is located in such a retarded location (just like the analogue nub on psp) game developers were shy of depending on analogu control,

HENCE YOU NEVER USING ANALOGUE UNLESS THE GAME FORCS U TO. See? sony pulling wool over ure eyes!


5) I thought they sucked too, till I played Halo 2. And of course, halo 2 would suck on a ps2 pad for sure.

6) Hey! is it that big? well, my hands are big i guess, but it isnt that big nowwww, ah well. I dunno. In any case the 360 pad is more curvy than the ps pad so its more like beyonce's booty, ya know, lolololol!



TP, you will see a calluse but its NOT from fighting games! its from a can of texaco insecticide that irritated my fingers to the point of burning! AAAaaaargh!

By the way I'm a fighting game freak but i never became a combo wizard. The way I play dosnt cause my fingers to blister, but *does* require precision, so I have no patience with non-cenering pads like the ps pad. Try doing guile's somersault justice on a ps pad. If you can, you be baba.

when you say 60kbps do you mean kiloBITs or kiloBYTES.

for examplke if you are getting the figure from downloading speeds on maybe DAP or internet explorer, its probably kiloBYTES. Please I'll be VERY grateful if you can make a tiny effort to confirm this.

This is because I need that figure in order to be sure it will meet the needs I will purchase it for, if indeed i do purchase it.
