Good morning everyone. ...How una dey?.Ypp I beg to differ I like going this your Ypepe I.e yellow pepper we don chilli so make we get yellow naa grin grin grin grin Happy wedding anniversary in arrears no vex na adult education.

Aunty CC prai prai prai praise God on behalf of Uncle CC may God continue to bless him.Happy for you ma tongue. kiss kiss

As 2013 draws to an end, like CC I am not in the ask ask mode.I am more in the thankful mode. This does not mean that I am not projecting and planning on how 2014 will be better but just deciding to let gratitude for all He has done in 2013 fill my heart. My birth month is also January and so the heart of thankfulness continues even then.I am not yet where I want to be but I know I am a work in progress. I also want to grow a thicker skin against naysayer you know all those kain negative people who only see how it can't work, it's impossible naaa no more in 2014 I no go even ask your opinion sef.I also like CC don't know how to say No to people (Hubby is always saying your too nice and people take you for granted) I have tried but its just my nature but will make an effort to sometimes just think or defer rather than just trying to please people who most times are not even thinking about me.

May 2014 be a year of good tidings for us All by His Grace. Most importantly by His Grace we will be here this time 2014.

chaircover: I thought I was the only one. I paid £65 for a one week weave. That one week sef was because I was doing ijebu. The hair was a mess.
Many of them dont know how to make hair. Its just ayaba and a way to make money. Just like those nonsense caterers who dont know how to cook.

The people that know how to do hair are the ones that did a proper apprenticeship/freedom in Naija. The rest na wash angry

Jide if she is good, abeg send her to my side grin
grin grin grin grin Every Sola, Deborah and Nike is now a caterer or event decorator in the UK. I am not against that but abeg don't blow 6 balloons halfway or cook rice where the rice is swimming in oil and call yourself an event planner angry.I get that we all want extra money but at least try to master the craft.

chaircover: Thank you jare my sister . . . .Na laziness jare . . . I dont want to travel too far
Its really annoying . . the last time I was in Naija I had 4 people do my hair at home. It was beautiful and it was done in 2.5 hours. The hair lasted more than I even planned to keep it.

Here you do weave and you will be sewing the thing back yourself after 10 days . . .really annoying angry
Makes me remember one weave I paid £70 for and took off the next day angry angry angry.Very annoying.
The person who now does my hair takes £30 for weave but is soo perfect she trained in Naija. When she does braids people ask if I just came back from Nigeria.

dinachi: Since you want to run away, it is understandable.
I am not running away, but the way you keep going on and on about feminism being the antichrist and then give this
dinachi: Greatest problem with feminism is that most feminists enter marriage with a combative mood. They see their husbands as a competitor who must fall for her to rise. They fail to understand that marriage is complimentary. it is a union of two good people united in a single mission. To most feminists. IT IS ALL ABOUT CONTROL NOT EQUALITY!
As the definition remember I said academic. Its obvious you have no clue what you are on about.

I don't have the strength to educate you on your misconceptions so that's why I said Google is your friend.

Re-Learning:
Trust me, I know that the civil rights and abolitionist played a huge role in making the world a better place. I live in one of the most diverse cities over here that is still strung with racism. I went to a college that is known internationally for helping with the Sit-in movement. The same college Jessie Jackson came out of.....that Martin Luther King visited. I know that the women's movement was needed because women couldn't even own land here so if her husband died she was out of luck. But I also know that our government helped to amp this up bc during World War II, most men were out for war and they needed production to continue at home. They needed taxes to still come in so they helped to hype up this propaganda for women to fill the roles of men. And it has gone too far. And as a woman living here....who grew up here....I am finally seeing through 4 and 5 generations of smoke. And I want different. That's all
I get your point relearning but my point was rather than always cast aspersions on the evils or by products of this movemens let's remember the real reasons why these movements existed in the first place . Let's just for a moment imagine life if some people had not struggled for some of the liberties we take for granted today.

Yeah like all this movements, there are radical or extreme elements but as bukatyne has explained its left to us as individuals to learn to take the pros and cons of these movements and apply them in our individual lives . Yeah racism had to be fought and still exists but some people still play the race card even when its obvious they are not willing to take the blame for making something of themselves. Like bukatyne explained I also dont see how feminism might be the major cause of attitude problems. We must also realise that there are diiferent models that have sprung out of the intial feminist movement and the more radical arm is probably what would espouse gender hatred.

I am quite familiar with feminism and studied various course units on the topic, my final year project was even on feminism in Islam and its faaar wider and broader than what 'some' posters tongue tongue on NL make it out to be.Infact it's in no way linked to wanting to be a man. (Okay there were some extremists but you have that even in religion)

Are you this jobless ?

@ chillis using several monikers does not change the obvious. Feminism is anti marriage. Feminism is okay as long as you want to remain a Lesbian or remain Unmarried or be a divorcee. Otherwise dump the ideology before you dump your marriage. A word is enough for the wise.
Ignoring the insult but please can you define feminism? I am not talking what you just spewed up there but from an academic point of view.

Dami, I sooooooooooo feel you on this one!

D'you know, I was up by 7am ish this morning, crept downstairs (with my heart in my mouth so as not to wake up the little madam) and sat down in front of my laptop at the kitchen table.

I was like: "Peace at last!..." The house was so silent....

Then 30 mins later, one of the bedroom doors opens up, upstairs, I hear feet coming down the stairs...then someone in her pyjamas give me an accusing look with the single word: "Mum!" huh undecided

Maybe I spoke too soon... embarassed embarassed

Anyway, not to worry, you're almost there - just hang in there and stop procrastinating. Before you know it, the course work's all completed - oh, and Happy Birthday in Advance! cheesy cheesy

Efemena_xy: Figurative or not, it's open to various forms of interpretation.

This is an online forum for all and not just Yorubas. I too have idioms and proverbs from my culture which if used, would be interpreted as an insult by others who don't come from my region. Do I use that as an excuse to post what others might view as offensive? No, I don't.

No sweat sha as she's confirmed that it was directed at me.
Efe I understand that it's open to different interpretations but just thought to explain that particular saying and how lunatic could never be referring to you.

Please no vex kiss kiss kiss.
Oya you and Ewuro kiss and make up.

Ewuro abeg dey talk directly joor cheesy All these your figurative speech can sometimes be misconstrued and misunderstood. This is an online forum and we are typing not talking so its soo easy for the intentions behind statement to be misunderstood. Efemena_xy: Oh, so now you're done with this? Babes, I'm only just starting with you. C'mon, let's clear the air while we're at it! angry angry

Re the bolded: yes, you do get that a lot don't you?

If you choose to throw something like that out there to clear the air, why then should you be bothered about my directive approach?

And yes, I do get you, more than you'll believe but sometimes you do cross the lines and when I choose to ignore you, you get all hot under the collar. You always act true to type Jide. I knew it was you lashing out at me behind a 'hidden' moniker but I chose to play along and act ignorant. Here: explain your insult directed at me:
Hi Efe sorry to butt in kiss kiss kiss but that proverb is not literal. Lunatic does not mean the person is a lunatic.Yoruba is a very figurative language.People more versed in yoruba should help me out here but it kinda means its ok to talk when someone not close us is going through something but a different case when its our blood. So in the context of that thread it meant its ok for us to make some comments when the person affected is not our loved one.

Its just a misunderstanding and Mr BB should not have just given the literal meaning. The lunatic could not have ever been meant to be directed at you.

The closest thing I have to an older brother is my uncle(the last child of my maternal grandmother) my parents raised him and he lived with us till he was able to stand on his own. When my dad died his name was on the obituary cos he and my dad were soo close. He is SC.You don't even wanna know. cry cryHe is 43 now, has a child and is doing quite well ( as has been said they are often very brainy, he is a fellow of CIIN, has two masters degrees etc).BUT as most people have said, you don't wanna how we all hold our breath if he as much as has a cold or headache.

He came to the UK last winter stayed with us and I practically turned to nanny nurse cos I was soooo concerned about him not falling ill even more so than my lil children. He had to tell me off cos I was really scared. Uncle are you ok, Is your room warm enough bla bla cos I just wanted him to be ok.As Abali said you learn to manage your health with age but believe me its not easy.

I am AS and as unromantic as it sounds, It was one of the first things I found out about my husband.Because we have a 'warrior' in my family, its one of the first things people in my family ask when you get serious with someone.

Pls OP, abeg you have heard enough but pls pls think of your unborn children.I have nursed a person in crisis so I know what I am talking about.

Serubawon is like my husband, he was helping me wrap and kept saying I dont see the point sebi they are still going to rip the paper. grin grin.He always gets me gifts in gift bags and I know thus year will not be different.

Feeling very deep today, looking back at so many events this year and all I can say is that it can only be God's grace. At the beginning of the year, Jan/Feb it was like Lord show up, what is going to happen? How will we face this? But He showed up and showed Himself true . Not in the ways we planned but nevertheless still bringing us to an expected end. Thank God for love, hope, faith, peace, joy, strength and most importantly for Grace through Christ Jesus.

Like someone said, let the spirit of the season speak to our hearts so we can reach out to those who might be lonely at this time. Not necessarily materially might be a smile, a call, a text a bbm a visit etc just let someone feel they are not alone, you care and indeed God cares for us all.

Okay enough of philosophical dami grin grin grin abeg my people is drinkin Baileys Irish Cream technically drinking tongue cheesy grin? My Sis in law says its adult ice cream grin grin grin grin grin

Efemena_xy: CC and Dami - una own better sef!

You're both going to your SIL's for the Christmas. Mine's chosen to work on Christmas day angry angry

Besides, she doesn't like turkey. When she came visiting a couple of Christmases ago, she brought some roast duck with her. Jeez! It was delicious...but I prefer ma turkey.. tongue tongue

Planning on hitting Nando's on Chrismas Eve. I've also got the option to go for midnight mass but I think I'll settle for morning mass on Christmas. We might have mother Christmas there (again) dishing out candy sticks for the kids...

D'you know I got a packet of those stripy red-and-white sticks and hung the whole lot (a dozen) on the tree? So in addition to the fairy lights, ribbons, golden chains, bells, colourful balls and angel on that tree, I've got something edible on it for a change tongue tongue
I like Duck..though a tad bit fatty but I think its tastier than turkey.I have never had goose but I hear it's also nice. This Christmas turkey don dey tire me small jare. grin Turkey is only nice if well seasoned.Very dry bird.

That sounds like such a nice thing to go on the tree those stripy red and white candy sticks . Don't really see them around that much anymore.
