It's a pity that the mods are deliberately turning a blind eye to topics that will propagate intellectual discourse.

In the light of things, I would think that topics, such as these, should be given utmost priority. But what do I know?

So what will you call the bubonic plague nd Spanish flu??

Take a chill pill nd stop blowing the ish out of proportion

Whatever the world is doing is to contain the virus nd limit the spread.
In what centuries did the Spanish Flu and Bubonic Plague occur?

Was the world as close-knit as it is now?

Was international travel, which is what has spread this virus so rapidly, as easy and regular as it is now?

My good man, if within the space of just three months or so of this virus's existence, you still haven't noticed the dynamic changes the world has undergone and is still undergoing, then you might need binoculars or something.

I'm saying that should the world eventually recover, things can never go back to the way they used to be.

Let's keep our fingers crossed, shall we?

OP, stop raising false alarms. The last I checked, the mortality rate of COVID-19 was still less than 5%. How can this mean the end of the world?
I'm not raising false alarms. I'm only doing what most of the charlatans we call Gods of Men in Nigeria do, which is making calculated guesses based on current indices.

The 'end of the world' here isn't used literally, but figuratively to signify that the world is taking a total turn for the different.

Wake up, if you haven't already, and smell the coffee.

Fellow nairalanders, I don't intend to be a Doomsday prophet or conspiracy theorist, but my assertion is based on current happenings.

The COVID-19 virus has had unprecedented reverberations all around the world, with new cases announced daily and an ever-increasing fatality rate.

The precautionary measures being taken by governments around the world buttress my postulation further.

1. Iran, perhaps the only theocracy in the world, has suspended Juma'at (Friday) prayers.

2. In China, where the virus originated from, a population exceeding six hundred million (almost a tenth of the world's population) is on round-the-clock lockdown.

3. Saudi Arabia, the headquarters of the Islamic faith has temporarily banned pilgrimages to the holiest shrines in Islam, located in the country. Remember that pilgrimage (hajj) is one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam.

4. Japan has put temporary restrictions on attendance of primary and high school. This means that children in Japan will be out of school for as long as this virus persists.

5. Football federations across the world are either postponing or cancelling matches, or at the very best insisting that the matches be played behind closed doors, i.e without fans in attendance. Some are even suggesting already ending the leagues without completing the fixtures. Unprecedented, ain't it?

6. Nations all over the world are either closing their borders to influx of people from infected countries, banning travel to and from potential hotzones or taking measures that will severely curtail movement between countries and make international/transnational travel extremely more difficult than previously.

From these and other indices, it is inevitable that if the status quo regarding this virus remains, momentous changes such as food shortage, population decimation, travel restrictions and other upheavals will become the order of the day, and anarchy might ensue.

For what it's worth, it is not totally unquestionable that this virus might be a man-made one, for use as a biological weapon. If this allegation is to be taken with even the slightest pinch of salt, then the repercussions are apocalyptic to say the least.

We all pray to overcome this epidemic, but one thing is certain, if it hasn't already done so, COVID-19 will bring about a seismic paradigm shift in the affairs of the world as a whole. We might have to begin to brace up for the worst.

Nairaland General › Are Leap Years Ill-fated? by DanseMacabre(op):
I remember hearing about leap years being unlucky while growing up. I hadn't really been consciously aware of this fact, but this year jas made me begin to see things in a different light.

Just consider the events that have occurred in the first two months alone.

1. Corona Virus. Hundreds dead, thousands infected at an ever increasing rate.

2. Wildfires in Australia.

3. The Amazon forest, unofficially called the 'lungs of the earth', catching fire.

4. The near-war between America and Israel, and the threat of WWIII looming.

5. Kobe Bryant's death (alongside his daughter and co-passengers of course).

6. Flash floods/landslides in Australia and many other places.

7. Wildfires in California, more intense than the routine ones.

8. Escalated conflict and insurgency in Sub-Saharan Africa, etc.

9. Locust invasions of thousands of hectares of farmlands in East Africa.

The aforementioned are from memory, you could add to your own list of ills that have bedevilled the world this year alone.

So my question is, do all these give credence to the fact that leap years (years with 366 days, as opposed to 365) are unlucky years? Have you heard this assumption too? Or is it mere coincidence? Please share your opinion.

OAM4J, Mynd44, Lalasticlala let's hear people's thoughts on this.

Reference:
I remember the days of the Great Sugar Ray and the deadly southpaw, the 'Merciless' Marvelous Marvin Hagler.

Na so the hype be. I was too sure the older and softie Sugar Ray was no match for man who was undefeated up to that point in title matches, dispatching all who came his way with devastating knockouts even the feared Mexicans.

But the Sugar Man danced and danced his way round the ring to win a split in 12 rounds ending Marvin Hagler's career (he retired after that) and my interest in boxing for about a decade until Mike Tyson came around. We know Tyson's story.

The fact is that boxing is a whole lot more than punch power. It is not brawling. It is an art and a serious mental exercise. There are no superstars. Everyone will eventually get beat badly.

After the Hagler and Sugar Ray match which I watched live I will never again say, 'A cannot beat B.
Senior man! You watched Sugar Ray Robinson fight live? Sir you no be pikin o. Respect.
Politics › Re: Kaduna Winners Chapel Bomber Told Us His Name Was Mohammed, Not Samuel – CAN by DanseMacabre(m): 5:03pm On Feb 04, 2020
TheDevilIsALai:
The fact that the Police were quick to state the purported name and Christian identity of the would be suicide bomber points to the fact that this was meant to douse the sectarian conflict being orchestrated by Nigerian muslins on Christians.

All of a sudden the Jewish controlled MSMs are now narrowing on the ethno religious killings of Nigerian christian population - something they've refused to broadcast since their annionted Buhari became President. Make no mistakes, the western Jewish controlled media was very instrumental in ridiculing Jonathan out of office and for also ushering Buhari into office.

Why are the Jews suddenly reporting on the plight of Nigerian Christians? Also, almost every article I have read from the Wall Street Journal to the New Jew York Times, have been subtly pointing accusing fingers to Turkey in arming and training both Fulani lunatics and their brethren in Boko Haram.

This may not be unconnected to Turkey's foray into Libya and sea grabbing in the Mediterranean that has pissed off Greece, Egypt , Cyprus and Israel.

I am not making excuses for Turkey under the control of the wannabe Sultan, Erdogan who like our own dear Dan Fodio wannabe (Buhari) has great delusions of reestablishing the Turkish Ottoman and Sokoto Caliphates respectively .

What I am driving at is that the Jews are exposing Turkey's terrorist links even though same Jews alongside Turkey and Saudi Arabia propped up and supported ISIS in Syria. And if we also consider that the Jewish media once praised ISIS and other Sunni lunatics as freedom fighters and also refused to report on the genocide, enslavement and serial rape of Christian and Yazidi populations just as they did with Fulani menace we must consider the Jewish Medias newfound need to report on the plight of Christians with every atom of caution.

This brings us to the Winners church attempted bombing or rather a bombing attempt that was meant never to happen so as that the Nigerian police will arrest a purported Christian so as to diffuse the fact that Muslims are attacking and killing Christians at will.

Why? Because, it provides the Buhari govt a sense of neutrality in their responsibility to protect all Nigerians irrespective of tribe or creed thereby absolving themselves from the complicity of aiding and abetting their Fulani lunatics. It also serves as taqiyya to absolve Muslims from the killings on hapless christian population.

In summary, do not assume the Jewish controlled Western media has suddenly developed a conscience to report on the plight of Christians in Nigeria facing a slow genocide at the hands of state sponsored and backed actors like the Fuani herdsmen, Miyetti and co. The Jewish media has a penchant for Muslim victim hood. We saw it in C.A.R. with the antiBalaka movement that rightly ousted the marauding Fulanis. The Jews never reported what led to the anti Fulani conflict but rather latched on the narrative that African Christians were wantonly killing Muslims. Same thing happened in Myanmar with the indigenous Buddhist population expelling the Rhoyingha Muslims back to Bangladesh. The Jewish media went all out to condemn the attacks without one moment telling the world what led to the Rhoyingha being expelled. The Jewish media is latching on the plight of Christians in Nigeria towards exposing Turkey's role in co-sponsoring the Fulani jihad over territorial disputes in the Mediterranean with Turkey.

As for the Buhari govt, this false flag was to douse and deflect from the real perpetrators of the senseless killings just as the APC did with CAN during the era of GEJ.

Do not fall for their lies.
Hmm. I would normally call most of your submissions conspiracy theories, but a good number are quite valid. The West was quite instrumental in installing Buhari. Why do they want to drop him after just a short while?

Methinks they underestimated his bloodlust and vindictive spirit.
