Kobojunkie:Yes we can never under estimate the usefulness of a good database but the problem with this one is, a good database for the wrong purpose. It is alright to have a database of cars that we have in the country, it's done every where but they do not use it to fight terrorism but for things like checking who needs to be taxed, know the amount of private cars that run on the roads etc. What we really need like you have pointed out is a human database, that way you can monitor people closely. from such database you can tell if one is living above his means, you investigate further and find out what the source of his money is, etc. Like i stated earlier a vehicle database cannot be accurate because most people do not even drive cars that belong to them or they bought themselves. What part are you debating the smartness!!!! ![]() |
Beaf:You do not know what a CRB means and you have guts to open mouth and call me ignorant. Like I said get up from your sitting room in Naija and do some travelling then maybe you will get a better idea of how things work. |
manny4life:Now this is the kind of thinking i am talking about. Anybody could buy a car and hand it over to someone else as a gift and then same car gets stolen and ends up being used for terrorism acts. After all we all know how cars exchange hands in Nigeria. The car has been entered into the database of the FG but how does that help sort out terrorism? There are different scenarios and it all boils down to the same. It would not solve the issue. Our security forces need to be trained to detect these acts, instead of putting money into white elephant projects that has sole aim of enriching our politicians. |
Beaf:Do you know what a CRB or credit check means? If you do then ask your self if both checks afre carried out on you, do they show if you are illegal or not? Its people like you we need kicked out of Nigeria. Mate get off your lazy ass, save some money and tour the globe so you don't talk like a drunkard. |
Beaf:There you go again, I thought you said it was based on the vehicle database. The police or immigrations officer do not need your drivers license to determine if you are illegal or not. That is why when you apply for visa or a passport your details are entered into a central database system including your picture. Once they get you with little info gotten off you they can tell what your status is. Mate get your facts straight. |
Beaf:There again another ignorant answer. What has stopping and searching using immigration data base got to do with database on cars? Keep pulling up more stuff to show how ignorant you are. Immigration data base has nothing whatsoever to do with Vehicle data base. It is standard practice that once in a while you are stopped by immigrations officers who have equipment to check based on your identity and not the car you drive if you are illegal or not. This same equipment is given to the police and not in all countries like you would lead us to believe, and just to let you know in case you do not, is not part of the police database but immigrations. So my question again to you, what does a vehicle database do for you if you do not have a human database. |
Beaf:Your response just showed me how ignorant you are. I see i have been wasting my time chatting with you. PS did you get that idea from your sitting room in Nigeria? They can do that and there are loads of illegal immigrants in their countries. I wonder if we are talking of the same country, where i can buy a passport off the streets or where we have ghost voters ??Yea now we truly know who the foolish ones are. |
Beaf:Ok explain to me how a vehicle database helps check terrorism. Tell me how by the push of a button you get to know who has ever driven a car. Where does the button get the feedback from? How does this work if there are no CCTV's on the road? That's me thinking and wondering WTF!!!! I have not said Nigerians are stupid like you have portrayed. I have just asked simple questions to get everyone thinking, which you obviously are not ready to do. You cannot have a database of cars when you do not have one for the humans driving them. how do you match them to know who owns what. These are the type of questions we should be asking the president instead of being sentimental and supporting every stupid thing he places in front of us. The president is the one who is being rude to Nigerians by making statements like the one he posted on facebook. He makes all Nigerians seem foolish even though we are one of the smartest people on the planet. |
Beaf:Mate, you know I would appreciate if you could show me you know better instead of showing me your level of ignorance by being rude. P.S In what world does a president come out and give details of his security plans. |
Beaf: werepeLeri: ![]() One more question do we now have CCTV on our roads in Nigeria? Or are the policemen going to carry hidden cameras so they can get a glimpse of who has driven a car. What about our corrupt officials who would happily hand out more than one license plate to an individual. What about the fact that the car would have been stolen by the suicide bomber? apparently he would not go to the police and say i stole a car to bomb the country. C'mon we are smarter than this. I can give a million flaws. Like someone correctly said we should start with data on citizens, cause this would not help us catch a single terrorist but rather help our inept police and security forces harass innocent citizens. |
I just have one question. How does a database of cars and it's owners help curb or reduce terrorism? Someone please educate me. |
Why are Nigerians so not smart. The OP has posted several videos, with input from even European citizens and Russia, telling us Ghadaffi has done nothing wrong and still people open their big mouth to say rubbish. What you don't understand is colonialism is on its way again but in a different form. Someone listed a list of former British colonies and said they are all doing fine. You sit in your homes in Nigeria and decided that. Have you visited any of those countries. Have you met people from those countries and discussed with them. China is the 2nd largest economy but what percentage of people in China have a good standard of living, same in India. Ghaddafi has always stood against the west, he has brought up ideas that would make us over run the west but as usual we have refused to listen. I remember him saying before all the chaos in Libya started that oil producing states should stop selling oil to the west in dollars but in Gold, this would further cripple the economies of the west. Do you think the west do not realise the threat Ghadaffi poses to them. We should start seeing the big picture and stop being fooled by the west. Also like a lot of people have asked, is the same situations not going on in Syria, why hasn't NATO bombed Syria yet? The king of Saudi Arabia and the queen of UK have been there before I was born, no one has called them dictators. Scotland and Wales have asked to leave the union but England has refused, why hasn't NATO bombed England. Don't you all worry very soon they would visit Nigeria again in the guise that GEJ is the one causing the bombings going on in Nigeria at the moment then your eyes would be open. |
Let's watch as more chaos unfolds, as our treasury is looted dry. Very pathetic. |
romeo:If you were smart you would know that the world bank is a non-profit institution and would always be categorized as such, instead of coming here to show your obvious ignorance. And please you should learn how to read, why not take a look at the list and see what her position is. It pays to read the dotted lines or are you an illiterate? |
that can not be true. nigeria president wife can fire Ngozi iweala. whoever become nigeria president wife is among the first 30 most powerful woman. Nigeria $30 Billion a year. In Nigeria, the wife of president has the same power unofficially as the president. The nigeria president is the most powerfulman in africa. ahead of south africa and egypt
You are very on point. If they said she was 87th based on work den i would have somewhat agreed with her but not in politics. Besides she just rejoined politics, so how can she be powerful already. Pathetic list. |
Kobojunkie:The obvious answer to this is the salary of civil servants. She cannot touch the salaries of NASS as it must go to GEJ for approval first. GEJ is a politician, he would be stupid to touch the salaries of the reps because they can ruin him. And this woman gets it wrong again, you cannot clean the Nigerian economy without reducing the level of corruption in the country. GEJ and the members of NASS are perpetrators of corruption at the highest level. Even if we bring the best economists in the world to clean up Nigeria, if we do not reduce corruption, then all would be futile. We have seen that all her work reducing foreign debt ( which was a blunder in the first place) has amounted to nothing as Nigeria is back in the same position as she was before. Let us sit and watch, it would be the same like it always has until we the masses say we are tired. |
afodimkpa:That's why IBB said a few years back that the youths of Nigeria have nothing to offer and i said even though its insulting the fella was absolutely correct. It seems we have gone backwards by ten years. We hardly produce any smart person from our schools any more. This is basic economics that can be measured by anyone with common sense (the saying that sense is not common seems to be the case here). Prices are flying up by the hour and someone tells you that inflation has dropped to single digit and you accept whole heartedly. When last did you buy anything in Nigeria with a =N=1 coin? I cry for Nigeria. This is a simple definition of inflation for the benefit of those who do not know In economics, inflation is a rise in the general level of prices of goods and services in an economy over a period of time.I hope after this simple lay man definition you can now start thinking for yourselves. SMH in total disbelief!!!!!! |

@KettyKinIslamic banks are doing just fine. You need to do a proper research to understand how they work. In fact Europe has been advised to consider using the principles of islamic banking to revive their economies. The arabs are fairing better with it. Its not about the name but the principles. |
@LastpageI do not know where you got this ideology from but i can confidently tell you that there are a lot of countries out there who prefer to have their currency devalued in order for them to have economic growth. You have countries like China and Japan in this regards. You cannot measure a Central Bank Governor's performance by the value of the currency but by several macro economic variables like inflation, interest rates, etc. also note that even though SLS appointed those interim management it would be worthy to note that he cannot be in all 10 banks at the same time to monitor what they were doing. The only problem i had with him was the manner in which he carried out the exercise and some banks that escaped the hammer even though most of us knew the state of those banks. In my opinion he should have quietly eased out the former management and then asked the non-executive board members to appoint a new executive which the CBN would have ratified. Well i must say if this were to be in another country say for instance Britain or South Africa, etc. I would not lose an ounce of sleep over this, but considering this is Nigeria, where what we see is not really what is, I have to keep one eyebrow raised. Very good policy which if used for the proper intent would save the economy, as we all know that banks are generally considered TOO BIG TO FAIL, cause when one fails it always has a trickle down effect on the whole economy. I just pray this is not an orchestrated act by SLS. |
Nitel is being sold for $450M and we are rejoicing. |
I wish Fela was still alive, this is what he would have termed suffering and smiling. |
Imanuelle:What i am saying is no company be it white owned or black owned would tell u dey wouldn't do bizness with you cos of ur nationality not in this age and time with all the laws against such. You could be sued for that you know. And i am totally surprised at the level of reasoning of some Nigerians, you buy any story without taking a good look at it. Everything we do is based on sentiments. It has to end if we would get to the promised land. |
akhis:Bullshit, do you know how many Nigerians have accounts in HSBC. I have an account with them and my account is still operational. Do you know how many politicians who have stolen money from Nigeria hide those monies in HSBC. RCCG should tell us the truth. We have gone beyond telling us baby stories. |
executinal: umechuma: odiaero:When i see statements like dese above, i weep for Nigeria because it clearly shows that we are still suffering from tribalism and neo-colonialism and that means we would never get to the promised land. She was Finance minister during OBJ's tenure what did she do, take all our reserves and pay-off foreign debt and we all think that was a wise thing to do. Where has that move gotten us, did it improve the economy? Infact tell me if i am wrong, that was all she did during her tenure and we all clapped hands for her. Has any of you looked at the debt portfolio of the world powers or even the present fast growing economies, eg Brazil, China, India, they owe way more than we did. After paying our debt did it stop us from incurring more debt or did it change the way the west perceives Nigeria. We hd local contractors who hould have been paid so that they would create jobs for Nigerians but she didnt think it was appropriate to pay them first. I remember at some point she was going to lay off civil servants and bring in people who had 2:1 to work in ministries, is that the kind of person we need as finance minister. Does she know the implication of that to the economy. That woman is coming to play a script given to her by the west and it would not favour us one bit. The west is in a bad situation right now and they would do anything to recover from it. We should stop being sentimental and face realities. |
Amazing you guys are actually rooting for Okonjo Iweala when all she would do is play out the script given to her by World Bank and co. I am igbo but do not think she is the right person for that job. My honest opinion. |
Dis Guy:I agree we have those guys on ground but truth be told they are not that effective. How many banks in Nigeria allow you do transfers from one bank to another and how many are hassle free. I sit down in my room or office make a transfer online here in canada and less than 5mins later the recipient can confirm the fund is in their account. I was in Nigeria during Xmas last year and it was hell trying to use my card to pay for things. I know how many of my friends come to canada from Nigeria and have issues using Nigeria issued cards. The proper infrastructure is not in place. Right now not a vast majority of the populace uses e-payments, then imagine what would happen next year when everyone is forced to use them. The chaos would be untold. People would loose money to our thieving banks, etc. We need the proper infrastructure in place first. Good idea but as usual there would be poor implementation. |
Can't we be civil to each other, this is just a simple question even though ambiguous. If i was asked who was a better player between the 2, then the answer would be Okocha. But if i was asked who was more successful between the 2, then the answer would be Kanu. It should be noted that Okocha even though no where as successful as Kanu, remains more famous than Kanu. People world over would rather see Jay Jay play over Kanu. Also to be noted, Kanu is the most successful player ever to come out of Nigeria. Also one of the best players to come out of our great country. Both players contributed immensely in whatever team they played in. @baby-boy kanu was not a lazy player, his slowness was what made his game. Kanu had deft passes. And just a reminder of the 3 goals scored againt Chelsea in 10mins. That is the trademark of a deadly player. There were other great moments. And he is also very popular in the UK, people love him. @starboard I totally disagree with your statement "he is not fit to tie Kanu's lace" Even kanu himself knows what Jay jay is worth, he may not have won all the titles in the world but he is a player on the lips of many fans of football world over. @Kabukabu50 Finidi was a great player wish we could have someone like him in the team again. But i disagree with you about Kanu and Okocha being overated. Those two are the Nigerian players known worldwide with the most contribution to the game of football. |
I think some people have gotten the wrong idea. The CBN is not saying you cannot take out more than 150k from your account at any given time, the thing is you cannot take it out as cash or you get fined, so you have to use some form of e-payment to do this. I think the right questions now would be to ask the CBN how they intend to make e-payments work properly before enforcing this, considering that power and the infrastructure needed to have a good payment system is not in place. For example our internet services is still light years behind. And of course the banks cannot improve this on their own. There has to be very good and fast payment systems on ground for this to work. So that people can sit in their homes, on their banks internet banking page they can make transfers to anyone in the country and outside the country, without having to go to the bank. They have to consider all the necessary things needed before adopting this new measure in 2012 or it would cause chaos instead of helping the system. P.S a cashless society is very ideal, it would save a lot of problems if we get it right. It would also help reduce corruption as we would have evidence of every transaction carried out. |
deotelan:This is the same reason why the UK would continue it's downward spiral. This statement is the dumbest thing i have read so far ( No insult intended to the writer). |
Integritas:I quite disagree with you (my personal opinion), I think the voting was based mainly on ethnicity. And that for me is not democracy. |
soloqy:What woman thumb printing? Unfortunately you can't see it as the video was shown to me by a friend, whose sister is an International observer. |
