Now thats a great country...
I only wished if our currency can strengthen like other currencies ...
Apart from population, I really don't see the reason we call ourselves giants of Africa... They er business we really need in this country to help our economy. Like having a telecom company like MTN (though we have glo already, buh its a private company)and a TV service like DSTV owned by fed govt... Its will boost our economy , and create jobs for youths... I think our leaders really needs to seat and discuss on how to restore our pride as a nation...
Now, the dollar is straightening and our beloved naira s devaluating... This isn't really what we planned for, Nigeria needs a structure to grow the naira... She needs a business that can be patronised by foreigners... It need rebranding...
Technically, a weak naira is a wonderful thing if Nigeria was producing a lot as it would make your goods competitive (see Japan and China for example) but in a country like Nigeria where almost everything is being imported it makes things really difficult for people as there are hardly any local industries to fill in the gap.
To even make matters worse, we now have high inflation. I came across a report that inflation in Nigeria is around 18.2%

SportsRe: Super Falcons Face Life Bans, Coaches, Officials To Be Axed - Officials by davidif: 4:45am On Dec 10, 2016
robosky02:
Authorities plan to ban several Super Falcons stars and some of the coaches could lose their jobs as fallout from the standoff over unpaid entitlements.

Falcons striker Francisca Ordega will among the stars to be axed after she said she regrets playing for the country.

The USA-based star was later blasted by NFF president Amaju Pinnick for her comments.

“I can categorically state here that the name Ordega will never be heard or seen in a Super Falcons team list again. This I was told by another top official of the football house,” a source informed.

“No less than 10 of these players could be banned for life for ridiculing their fatherland before the international media and henceforth, the NFF may draw up a code of conduct to guide against future occurrences.”

“The coaches and officials are not left out as they could lose their jobs for not standing firm in support of the federation when it matters most.”

Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung visited the team Thursday and pleaded with them for understanding before their outstanding allowances and bonuses.

But the girls have dug in, insisting they will only quit their hotel when they get their monies.

Two schoolgirl suicide bombers killed 30 people and wounded dozens in a coordinated attack on a crowded market in the northeastern Nigerian town of Madagali, an army spokesman said.

The attack on Madagali, which was recaptured by Nigerian forces from Boko Haram fighters in 2015, was carried out by two female school children, according to military spokesman major Badare Akintoye.

"They detonated two bombs at the same time killing 30 people and they also died," he told AFP news agency.

"At least 30 people have been killed in the suicide blasts carried out by two female suicide bombers in the market. Several people have been injured in the attack."

Ahmadu Gulak, a driver who was buying tea at the market, said the two blasts struck simultaneously on Friday morning at opposite ends of a grains and vegetable market.

He saw many wounded taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Akintoye said 57 people were also wounded in the bombings in Adamawa state.

"The two bombers were disguised as customers, detonated their suicide belts at the section of the market selling grains and second-hand clothing," said Yusuf Muhammad, the chairman of Madagali local government.

Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris, reporting from the Nigerian capital of Abuja, said Friday was not the first time Madagali was attacked.

A bus station near the same market was targeted by two female suicide bombers who killed at least 30 people in December 2015. In June, Boko Haram fighters opened fire on mourners at a funeral in Madagali, killing 18 people.

"Since the town was retaken by the Boko Haram army more than a year ago, it has been attacked three times," Idris said.

'Attack expected'

He added that Friday's attack seemed to have aimed to cause maximum damage as it targeted the busiest sections of the market on the busiest day of the week.

"Today's attack was expected because if the military made significant advance against Boko Haram in Sambisa Forest as they claimed, they have dislodged a lot of the group's fighters and they have dispersed in the surrounding communities like Madagali," he said.

Boko Haram have not immediately claimed responsibility for the attack that took place on the edge of the group's Sambisa Forest stronghold, which Nigeria's military has been bombing ahead of ground assaults.

Boko Haram's seven-year uprising has killed more than 20,000 people and forced 2.6 million from their homes.

Foreign AffairsPresident Obama Helping Donald Trump by davidif(op): 9:43pm On Dec 07, 2016
Now this is how a democracy should work. Check this article out by CNN.

(CNN)President-elect Donald Trump revealed Wednesday that he consults with President Barack Obama on some of his potential appointments -- and values the President's views.
"I have asked him what he would think of this one and that one," Trump told NBC's Matt Lauer on "The Today Show."

"I take his recommendations very seriously," Trump added. "And there are some people that I will be appointing and, in one case, have appointed where he thought very highly of that person."
There have been "at least a handful" of conversations between the President and Trump, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Wednesday, although he declined to characterize in any detail the content of the discussions.
"The President is responsive to requests and phone calls from the President-elect," Earnest said.
"He's certainly pleased that he can offer advice and assistance that may be useful to the incoming administration," he added.
Trump said he has talked to Obama about his perspective on the greatest challenges facing America.
"I've asked him what he thinks are the biggest problems, greatest assets," Trump said in the interview with Lauer, which was focused on Trump being named on Wednesday as Time's "Person of the Year." "We have very good dialogue."
On Tuesday, Joe Biden praised some of Trump's Cabinet selections, calling them "very solid" while expressing concerns about others.
"If you look at the people that Donald Trump has named so far, some give me great pause. There's other people he's appointed in the administration that are very solid," Biden said on "The Late Show" with Stephen Colbert. "So it's just -- I don't think anybody knows for certain, but we have to be vigilant, and when in fact it looks like the administration is moving in the direction that is harmful or dangerous."
During the final stretch of the campaign, the back-and-forth attacks and jabs between Trump and Obama were among the harshest seen between a sitting president and the nominee of his rival party.
Obama regularly hit the campaign trail mocking Trump's inexperience in policy-making and fondness for tweeting controversial things. And the businessman regularly called Obama a weak leader in the fight against terrorism.
But Trump, who visited the White House and met with Obama after the election, said Wednesday that he actually "really likes" the President.
"I must tell you, you know, I never met him before this. I never spoke to him before this. I really -- I do like him," Trump said. "I love getting his ideas. And I may differ in many cases. I differ very greatly."
Asked if Obama liked Trump just as Trump declared this morning that he liked Obama, Earnest told CNN's Michelle Kosinski, "For the president's personal feelings you should talk to the president about that. I can't speak to their personal relationship."
Trump spent years challenging Obama's birthplace and whether he was eligible to serve as President, and he also vowed during the campaign to "repeal and replace" the President's signature accomplishment, Obamacare.
While Trump has been quickly filling high-profile positions in his upcoming Cabinet, the choice for Secretary of State has attracted the most attention in part because Trump is considering nominating Mitt Romney, one of his harshest critics during the campaign.
"I've spoken to him a lot," Trump said of Romney. "We've come a long way together. We had some tremendous difficulty together and now I think we've come a long way."
Trump, who said he may announce his pick for the nation's top diplomate next week, dismissed speculation that he is just stringing Romney along to embarrass the former 2012 Republican presidential candidate.
"No, it's not about revenge. It's about what's good for the country. I'm able to put this stuff behind us," Trump said. "I hit him very hard also, which is very nice that the press doesn't cover that. I'm very happy about that actually."
Obama first welcomed Trump to the White House days after the Republican was elected - just days after the President had called Trump unfit to control the nuclear launch codes.
The meeting was the beginning of a bit of a softening between the two with Obama telling his successor that he wanted him to succeed and adding that he would do everything he could to ensure a smooth transition.
"Mr. President, it was a great honor being with you and I look forward to being with you many, many more times," Trump said following their 90-minute meeting.

Sorry but every country has it's ARMED FORCES and their primary objective is to PROTECT its territorial integrity(it's citizens). You can't protect yourself without weapons. This book haram war would have been crushed longest time if the "west" had supplied us with the weaponry we needed. Like I said, no money, otherwise it would have been time for us to look inwards.
and why should they have supplied "us" with weapons when the army is killing its citizens?

Those guns are better than Ak47
M16 that used to be known for jamming while in the field? I remember watching a documentary where American soldiers who used it were frustrated with its use. I am sure the modern day M16 does not have the same problem as the earlier ones did but the AK 47 is still boss, that is unless you are not willing to look past the drab and unappealing design of the weapon.
