CultureRe: The Major Problem With Our Society Is The Loss Of Morals & Values by davidif: 6:24pm On Dec 29, 2007
@don1demaco
Don't get me wrong sir, i agree with everything you said, i don't mean to justify corruption and dishonesty, i am just saying its not only isolated to Nigeria but every country in the world. Situations usually bring out the best and the worst in human beings. This trend of corruption is not only isolated to only poor countries like Nigeria, but just about every country on earth. I have a friend from the Ukraine and from what i hear from him its much worse in his country. The same goes here for every country in the world and every human being. Human nature is capable of good and evil (especially if its in an inhumane society).

Like i said earlier, human nature is the same everywhere, here in yanki, i've heard of some students who cheat in high school and at times in college but those are isolated incidents. What baffles me is that with the fact that the US high school system is much easier (on the contrary, college is much incredibly harder) you still hear of cases were students get involved in dishonest acts, now imagine if this kids were to write WAEC or JAMB that they've never been taught.

Concerning what you wrote about overcrowded classes here, i can honestly say that there are no secondary school classes with a 100 students in the class here at all, in fact, there are regulations against that. Also, the overall system here is designed for you to succeed, if a student or a school is doing horrible, they do everything to make sure the school improves its performances. Also, the most conducive environment for a student to learn anything is in a conducive and nuturing environment, how could you learn anything when the teacher doesn't even know squat (or in some cases doesn't show up at all) or where you have 300 students in the class (17 should be the max. capacity)? and please don't even get me started about employment.

After reading the site, i concur with what the guy said, that's how typical of naija "ogas" are, very egotistical and disrespectful. Why can't our CEO's be charming like Bill Gates or JFK instead of being incredibly insulting and extremely narcissistic. Globacom is just a subsidiary of CELTEL; a telecoms company founded by Mo Ibrahim, a sudanese billionaire enterprenuer and i am sure the guy didn't become a billionaire by berating everyone or treating his subordinates as slaves.

CelebritiesRe: What's Happening Between Jayz And Kanye? by davidif: 4:35am On Dec 29, 2007
Are you deafhuh or did you really listen to the "Roc Boys" at all? the song is just filled Kanye's trademark production, didn't you even hear him saying "we in the house" repeatedly during the chorus? Also, don't you think the guy has other engagements besides making a cameo in Jay-Z video, the guys mother even died when he was on tour. LeBron James (another Roc Boy) was not in the video also because the NBA regular season had started, so this guys have better things to do than appear in videos.
PoliticsRe: Putin Named Time "Person Of The Year" by davidif: 4:26am On Dec 29, 2007
I respect Putin a lot, even though i am not a fan, the man believes in stability before freedom and i respect that a lot especially in a country rife with corruption and oligogarchy or should we call it kleptocracy. The collape of the soviet union was a disaster for russians and the following decade that ensued was rife with chaos and unprecedented corruption. But thanks to Putin, a true patriot and ex-KGB man, he restored order, stability, and world relevance to the country after Boris Yelstin disastrous and chaotic time in office. Putin scared away all the oligarchs and the friends of Yelstin who conned Russia and sold it down the drain (the Abramovich's and the Berezovsky's). So for all you detractors and haters out there, you all should look at it from the Russians point of view and not from the western point of view.
PoliticsRe: The Intellectual Shallowness Of Our Leaders by davidif: 4:14am On Dec 29, 2007
Nigeria should have a policy to buy only CARS made in Nigeria with nigeria content for government officials, if they must buy at all.

Malaysia government made same system with 'proton': this has mitsubish engine but everything else is Malay; the idea is to build their own cars.

I would not be surpise if 20yrs down the road, Malay produced their own FULL MADE IN MALAYSIA car.

@babasin
No disrespect at all but are you highhuh This guys are squandering our money to buy cars and you are saying this, please lay off the drugs man. Instead of the government creating jobs in Nigeria and focus on industrializing the country, they are embezzling our money left and right and you are sitting by your keyboard comparing us to Malaysia, please lay off the drugs. Our country has no high-tech industries at all not an electronics industry or even a car manufacturing industry (let's not even talk about our failed oil refineries) and here you are talking about cars made in Nigeria.

The fact that many people in Africa may not be educated enough to understand the laws of gravity, doesn't mean that the law does not effect them.

@naijaking
Look my good friend, here in naija, we have had much much bigger problems to worry about than our cousins across the ocean, we have civil wars, suppressive millitary regimes, famines, colonization (economic exploitation) and trust me, as i am sorry to say, but the last thing on our minds were Jim Crow laws.

Foreign AffairsRe: The Rape Of Iraqi Women By Us Soldiers by davidif: 3:47am On Dec 29, 2007
Also, i heard that in Pakistan, a very strict and islamic fundamentalist country, a woman is raped every minute and another woman is gangraped every 5 minutes and this are the same people who hate western society for being too liberal and immoral. Well done, religion of peace and purity.
Foreign AffairsRe: The Rape Of Iraqi Women By Us Soldiers by davidif: 3:43am On Dec 29, 2007
Oh please, you can instantly tell that the pictures are fake or they are from some porn site. Can't you see the woman's face being imprinted. By the way, how could you rape a woman openly when you are in a war zone that shows that the picture is fake. Where Iraqi women raped by US soldiers? Yes but this is definitely not the picture, so shut up.

Haven't you guys ever heard of self defense or kill before you get killed.
CultureRe: The Major Problem With Our Society Is The Loss Of Morals & Values by davidif: 2:08am On Dec 29, 2007
what are you talking about human nature is the same everywhere. Westerners would behave the same way Nigerians are behaving if they were in the same situation we were in. In western nations where people have a lot, there is still corruption, now imagine if they lived here in naija where everything is set up to frustrate you into failure and were it doesn't pay to be honest and to do things the hard way.
You said parents help students cheat here in naija, what else do you expect when you have a pathetic horrible educational system where students have to write an exam they've never been taught before, how do you expect to give students a uniform exam when there is no uniform syllabus or worse still there is no oversight over the educational system? How do you expect a child who went to some Mudasiru Fatai comprehension school where you have 200 students in one classroom with no teacher at all to write WAEC and pass? Look its the situation that brings out the worst in naija people, I agree we need to reeducate our kids on the values of honesty and not cutting corners, but when you live in a country where you can't pursue your dreams or where have a system of corruption at the top, it trickles right down to the subjects below.

CultureRe: Yoruba Culture Video Documentary by davidif: 11:07pm On Dec 27, 2007
Thanks for the documentary we need more of this. By the way what is the ministry of tourism and culture doing? instead of promoting our native cultures and subsidizing our ethnic (local) musicians, they are busy embezzling money. If i were the minister, i would make sure that it must be necessary for you to pass two Nigerian language courses in order to get into college. Also, since Nigeria has 250 ethnic groups, i would make sure that each state or each LGA or zone in that state should enforce the teaching of the dominant language in primary and secondary schools of that region so that our ancient cultures don't go extinct (e.g teaching Nupe and Igbira in Kwara state and Kogi State). Also, i would promote (through the media) emphasis on our native culture and put a quota on pirated movies (most of them western movies), and ban second hand clothes from the western world this would help the local textile industry in producing more native clothes. Also, i would ban or limit foreign music on the airwaves. It would also help if we do an American Idol kind of competition for the best native band, this would definitely encourage our local artistes.

All those saying it was musharraf need to keep quiet, the woman was killed by a suicide bomber and the last time i checked, Bhutto was a female in an islamic fundamentalist country running for presidency, which made her an enemy to a lot of people. Anyway may her soul REST IN PARADISE.

SportsRe: Should I Challenge Samuel Peter? by davidif: 3:55pm On Dec 27, 2007
Sorry for the discouraging comments earlier, if you are really serious about fighting him, then take heart that James "buster" Douglas could upset Mike Tyson then you can beat this guy. If you've watched him fight, the guy is not invincible at all. The guy has a suspect chin (prone to knockout if you hit him hard on the chin), the guy's footwork is really bad, and the guy is not all that skillful, though is punches na one is one grin grin grin . The guy is a big guy so try to gain lots of experience first before you challenge him. By the way, boxing is all about money, so in other for the fight to go on it has to be an attractive draw, in other words, a highly anticipated match up that would draw a lot of money like a Samuel Peter vs. Vitaly Klitschko fight not samuel peter against some unknown chump. Remember that the great "Don King" is Big Sam's promoter and in order to make money he is not going to schedule some obscure fighter to fight his champion. Either way, good luck sha.
