Henry240: Let me correct an impression. At the height of coalition deployment in Iraq, 55% of all US combat deployed troops were mercenaries. This means that there were more mercenaries in Iraq than there were actual US soldiers at the height of the US invasion of Iraq.
The French government has gone further and institutionalised it. They have a fully functional mercenary army, the French Foreign Legion.
I don't see you crimalising them? So can you tell me what we have done wrong?
Human Rights abuses occur in conflict, we are not immune to it, however the Nigerian army consistently prosecute those individuals found guilty in a court martial of human rights abuses. There is enough evidence to back this up.
Do western troops not commit human rights abuses, is this what you want to tell me? Like I said earlier, show me the receipts. All I hear from you are opinions not facts. Secondly, the French foreign legion is a French Army not mercenaries. Yes there enlistees are not always French but make no mistake they still an arm of the French military. Big difference from employing old South African soldiers from the 1980's to come and help you fight an enemy on your home soil. |

Henry240: I'll have to leave at this since you obviously have a grudge against the military and are unwilling to keep an open mind.
However I can assure you that as a person who has been commenting on military related topics for a number of years, I know very well what I'm talking about . They aren't mere assumptions.
On corruption, it is institutionalised in militaries in the west. However in the future, try keep an open mind. All I need to know about the operational capabilities of the Nigerian is that in there push against Boko Haram they needed South African mercenaries. To make matters worse, I saw there horrendous human rights abuses against people in the North where they committed insane atrocities against civilians in there pursuit of Boko Haram. It was horrendous and to make matters worse they even denied it and you want me to believe what they say on some Facebook page? |

Henry240: It's easy google it. The Nigerian army releases photos and figures of hostages released on a regular basis.
My estimated 10,000 figure comes statements and photos released by the army, they are not made up.
Follow the Nigerian army on facebook, twitter or just google for yourself. Yeah, I believe an extremely corrupt organization that steals funds for weapons and sells weapons to make money to give me actual credible figures. Pray, do tell me one of those so called hostage situations you are talking about. Not one from.there propaganda on Facebook. |

Henry240: Hogwash report and an attempt by the British to take glory. Nothing more, nothing less.
Apart from the Iranian embassy rescue, the British themselves do not have any proven record of a rescuing hostages from anywhere. On the other hand, the Nigerian military has rescued nearly 10,000 hostages, and proven.
So who is supposed to assist who in hostage rescue?
The operation to freed the British and Italian hostages was a disaster because of the participation of the British. If it had been a purely Nigerian ochrestrated operation like we had proven in other operations prior to that of the British and Italian, it would have been a success.
The British "Spy" aircraft broke down in Senegal on it's way to Nigeria, that report as expected tactfully removed this part. Wow! What an uninformed statement. The British SAS is one of the most elite special teams in the world. Even the Israeli elite commando units are based on the SAS and here you are talking nonsense. Why don't you go to your nearest bookstore and pick up a book on the SAS before making such an misinformed statement. Go read books like The One that got away by Chris Ryan or Bravo Two Zero by Andy McNab and inform yourself. |

three: British armed forces offered to attempt to rescue nearly 300 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, but were rebuffed by Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria’s president at the time, the Observer has learned.
In a mission named Operation Turus, the RAF conducted air reconnaissance over northern Nigeria for several months, following the kidnapping of 276 girls from the town of Chibok in April 2014. “The girls were located in the first few weeks of the RAF mission,” a source involved in Operation Turus told the Observer. “We offered to rescue them, but the Nigerian government declined.”
The girls were then tracked by the aircraft as they were dispersed into progressively smaller groups over the following months, the source added.
Chibok is located in Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno state. Today 195 of the girls are still missing. Those who have managed to escape from their kidnappers have told of a life of torture, enslavement, rape, and forced marriages in captivity.
Notes from meetings between UK and Nigerian officials, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, also suggest that Nigeria shunned international offers to rescue the girls. While Nigeria welcomed an aid package and assistance from the US, the UK and France in looking for the girls, it viewed any action to be taken against kidnapping as a “national issue”.
“Nigeria’s intelligence and military services must solve the ultimate problem,” said Jonathan in a meeting with the UK’s then Africa minister, Mark Simmonds, on 15 May 2014.
A document summarising a meeting in Abuja in September 2014 between Nigeria’s national security adviser and James Duddridge MP, former under-secretary of state at the Foreign Office, shows Operation Turus had advanced to the point where rescue options were being discussed. Minutes from a meeting the following month between Major-General James Chiswell and Jonathan hinted at the frustration felt by those trying to prompt some action from Nigeria.
“[President] Jonathan was still focused on ‘platforms’. General Chiswell said again we could offer advice on what equipment might make sense and how weapon systems might be best deployed,” the October 2014 document stated.
The Nigerian government did not respond to a request for comment. The Foreign Office said: “We wouldn’t comment on specific operational details, which are a matter for the Nigerian government and military.”
Jonathan has drawn criticism at home and abroad for a lack of action and perceived apathy over the kidnappings. The government was slow to mount any response in the weeks after the girls were taken. The governor of Borno, Kashim Shettima, also publicly criticised Jonathan for failing to even call him or any other state official for 19 days after the kidnappings. Jonathan also hit out at the worldwide #BringBackOurGirls campaign, branding it a “manipulation” of the victims of the attack. Boko Haram had raided the dormitories of the government secondary school at Chibok. The girls staying there had braved warnings of an attack to sit their final examinations. Boko Haram looted the school and then burned it to the ground. The kidnappings also blighted the lives of the girls from the town who were not taken away, as many have been too scared to continue their education.
In addition to Nigeria, Boko Haram is active in regions of Cameroon, Chad and Niger. According to Unicef, more than 1.3 million children have now been displaced. Some of those taken by Boko Haram have been forced to become child soldiers: one in five suicide bombers in Nigeria are believed to be children, and three-quarters of those are girls.

Tosinex: When people say they heard from God, it always take different dimension, it could be either in dreams, visions, revelations, prophecies or through your spirit mind.. These are the most common ways God speak to people, but he also does speak audibly to people he has chosen to. Like Moses he said he will speak to him face to face like a friend will speak to his friend this was recorded in the book of numbers Numbers 12:6-8 King James Version (KJV) And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
This was actually true because there came a day I would say I heard God audibly speaks to me.. The words were within a second. It was towards the end of November 2015 that my former church then was led into 14 days vigil after the vigil individually we were hoping for God's intervention in our lives, on this particular day in the evening on my bed I was when I heard him speak this words to my ears
"Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me to do" It was as if my brother just spoke to me in my ears, I jumped off from the bed looked around to see if someone else was there with me in the room but it was only me.. I was awed and seriously I wasn't even that familiar with that scriptural verse, so I quickly type what I heard on goggle and it brought me to biblehub Jeremiah 32:27 (kjv), then I knew it was God that has just spoken to me. That was my first time in hearing audibly from God. Some of us here might have also experience such, I wouldn't mind if you can share your experience, thanks. Don't forget while debating this people that the bible says the things of the spirit are foolishness to the natural man. |

beylinko: Atimes when I see people's comments, I wonder what this generation is heading to. A generation that the things of this world is more real to us than the things of God. God still speaks but men are not listening. God is a Spirit and it takes the spiritual to hear him. Personally, I am what I am because of hearing His voice of direction. A notable one is how I was depressed, sucidal after i had a challenge in my final year at school. There was no hope nor Joy in my life for months and was at the verge of giving up on life. Do you know what God used, a DOG: Infact a three legged dog. It was a hot afternoon coming from a service with those thoughts on my mind with my heads hanging down when i spotted this dog. It has three legs with one chopped off and was playing Joyful with the sand with no worries in this world and I heard God speak to my spirit that no matter what it's not worth it giving up on life looking dejected. Here is a dog that has no value compared to me being and it been Joyful despite not knowing what to eat, has no future whatsover. The owner could decide to sell it anytime or it could get killed by a vehicle or anything. That day marked the turning point i my life. Nothing in this world is worth taking your life for, nothing. Why are you surprised? The bible says that the things of the spirit are foolishness to the natural man. So don't be surprised. Why do the nation's rage and the people imagine a vain thing ( Psalms 2:1) |

Redman44: Is it part of our culture that we should not be doing things properly ? It is a shame that many Nigerians get the opportunity to live and work in developed countries but fail to change their lethargic ways of doing things. Even in Nigeria, the Europeans and Americans do things properly. Can we compare the running of the British Council and Goethe Institute Libraries with the way the National Library of Nigeria is run? We keep hearing complaints about the disorder that reigns supreme at our Embassies and High Commissions in Europe and yet the FG does nothing about it. It is all about the thinking of the Embassy Staff. It also has to do with the resourcefulness of the High Commissioner at the Embassy in Italy. I bet the Man in Charge there is not very good and that is why the place is not being run properly. You need to see how the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Oyo State, is run. The place is like a developed country in a disorganized Oyo State. When will we start to do things properly in general terms?

Business › Re: Business Skills Lagos Business School Can't Teach You by davidif: 1:47am On Mar 04, 2017 |
segedoo: Lagos Business School is arguably the most prestigious business school in Nigeria. Several of my business associates have passed through their tutelage and are doing fine in corporate Nigeria and in their businesses.
1. Lagos business school can’t teach you how to read people Reading people and understanding body language are very important to succeeding in business and in life: • You have to learn to listen to what’s being said and how it is being said. • You have to learn to listen to what’s being said but not being vocalized. • You have to observe people “aggressively.” • You will have to talk less to automatically learn more. • You will have to notice first impressions. • Most importantly, learn to use what you’ve learned.
2. Lagos business school can’t teach you how to create lasting impressions You need to learn how to make business gestures that will be appreciated and remembered by the other party like: • Asking about and then doing something for one of their kids on day one. • “Freeing” people after you both have an agreement but circumstances have changed and they honestly can’t keep up. • Bargaining softly on deals important to the other party so that more long term opportunities can be created. Make business mentors and confidants – people you trust who you can seek advice from. Be totally discreet- anytime you talk about another person, the person listening will wonder what you tell others about them. Respect confidences.
3. Lagos business school can’t teach you how to follow your intuition Every entrepreneur who has been successful will understand winning through intuition – when everything isn’t quite right except that inner feeling. Nothing in a textbook or case study can explain this. Being intuitive means knowing what people want before they know they need it and finding a profitable way to give it to them. The perfect example is the late, Great Steve Jobs and the iPod he gave us.
4. Lagos business school can’t teach you humility Humility is a great business attribute. It can win even the most negative customer over. As an entrepreneur or business executive, you have to learn to say these phrases: • I don’t know: it is best than presenting a know-it-all approach. It also shows your humanity and your clients will trust you more for being truthful. Not knowing something isn’t a crime however, offer to refer clients to someone who does. • Help me: one big reason businesses fail is because someone wants to do everything alone. Learn to delegate because it is foolish to insist on doing everything yourself. • Sorry, I was wrong: We all make mistakes. It’s human nature to however, what matter is how you handle them. Readily admitting you were wrong makes a far greater impression than making excuses or outright denial.
5. Lagos business school can’t teach you how to close a sale Closing a sale starts from your first meeting with a prospect till when you get a cheque for an order. Selling is the fastest way to the top of the company. However, reaching the top without exceptional knowing how to persuade is almost impossible. The art of Salesmanship is a life skill.
6. Lagos business school can’t teach you the art of timing in Business This, you learn from experience. You have to know: • When to pitch a business proposition in an informal setting • How to pitch it • When customers wants you to sell them • The best time to sow the seed of an idea • When to send a “Thank You” card • When best to ask for a pay rise • When to close a deal based on the customer’s body language All these and all have to do with timing in business and you can only develop it intuitively.
7. Lagos business school can’t teach you “The Art of Silence” Learning how to use silence is a skill not taught in business schools. However, Silence is a powerful tool you an use to know what is on your prospect's mind - the real excuse for not wanting to buy NOW!
It either lets the prospect or client to talk or “forces” them to person to talk. Generally, the first person to talk is the more “uncomfortable” party in business negotiations.
8. Lagos business school can’t teach you how to market yourself • You need to learn how to connect with people on a human level – way beyond the generic business networking concepts. You have put your humanity behind your product and the people who buy it. • You have to learn to dress the part • You have to know your product at subconscious level or people will resent your efforts to sell it. Every fibre of your being has to believe in it; nothing can hide that.
Lagos Business School is a great institution but it cannot teach you these and more http://demandsupplier.com/15-business-skills-lagos-business-school-cant-teach/
cc: Seun, Lalasticlala, Mynd44 - Please help entrepreneurs get this. If Lagos Business School can't teach you none of this things then maybe it's time to go to Harvard Business school. |
