joeyfire:Stop being clever by half. If there was no reason to kill Zik as you said, and his name made into into the hit list all the same, then the only explanation for that is that the coupists had personal scores with him which they wanted to use the coup as an opportunity to get their pound of flesh. Otherwise tell us why his name made it into the death list. |
joeyfire:His being among the coup plotters doesn't make his narration impeccable. After all he wasn't even assigned any of the numerous targets to kill whereas some of his co plotters were assigned double. Have you ever heard any account which contains anything on the exact place Adegoyega was while the coup was being executed that unfortunate night? He didn't go for the execution and wasn't stationed in any particular known spot for any duty. He was just hoodwinked into believing he was part of a revolution, yet you say such a person was involved? What was his actual level of involvement? |
joeyfire:You are lacking in brain. Those who actually complained about the first census were Southerner so how could they have complained about a census that gave them the upper hand? Go and get your facts right. If the first census favoured the South, then why did Southerners allege rigging? You obviously have no use for logical reasoning. In both censuses the figures allocated to the North beat those of the South combined. |
joeyfire:Some members of the government weren't targeted. Shagari, Ribadu, Amaechi, etc were ministers in that government but weren't targeted like Okotie-Eboh their fellow minister. Nwafor Orizu was the Senate President and wasn't targeted. Ademulegun, Shodeinde, Largema, Gwam Pam, Maimalari, etc weren't members of the government but we're all targeted each for some different individual reasons. For example, Largema was accused of being too close to Akintola and even providing him with a military rifle. So if Zik was targeted, there must be a reason. |
joeyfire:I have seen weed smokers who after having taken a heavy dose themselves, begin to see others smoking in their hallucination. I think that is what you are passing through now. I wrote 1962 and 1963 censuses and not elections. |
joeyfire:You mean just because Adegoyega made such claim in his book you would retire your brain under your anus and just take his word for the truth? When you read accounts of events, you put on your thinking cap to be able to separate the truth from lies. Have you ever seen any author write to indict himself of any wrongdoing? Why were they after Zik whom you claim was suffering executive paralysis hence couldn't have been involved in any evil of that government? This is such a simple question. I don't know why you are avoiding it like a plague. |
joeyfire:Before the rigging of 1965 elections, two censuses had also been rigged in 1962 and 1963 by the Balewa-Zik government. Also, Akintola had been installed on Western Region without any election hence a higher form of rigging. Again, the federal elections of 1965 had also been rigged by the Akintola-Balewa coalition government yet all these didn't spark off operation Wetie, only for the 1965 regional election alone to spark it off? Is your brain paining you? I have asked you why Nzeogwu and co included Zik in their hit list if Zik had no powers to have done anything in that government as you would have us believe. So Nzeogwu and co were just out to kill an innocent figurehead position holder? Tufiakwa! The Western Region NCNC members were in support of Akintola even while he was still in a faction of AG battling to save himself from impeachment. At least one of them, Ebubedike, broke the mace of the Western House in his attempt of resisting Akintola's impeachment. They also remained with him while he formed NNDP after he was expelled from the AG. So why didn't Zik expell those Western NCNC members and then immediately realigned the party with UMBC, AG remnants and NEPU since they were already working for Akintola? So seeing that they were already pro-Akintola and that their formal defection to Akintola's party was just a question of time, why didn't Zik do the realignment immediately if he wasn't in support for their pro-Akintola leanings? How does it even make sense that Zik who was part and parcel of a government wasn't in support of an evil being perpetrated by that government yet he did protest within that government or resign his position? You just keep shifting the goalpost. Then most importantly, why did Zik ever enter into alliance with the NPC which was owned by the core Hausafulani elements that had been killing Igbos in the North in 1945 and 1953 if Zik was a sensible person who really wanted a just, fair and equitable Nigeria. If Zik didn't mind giving power to a section of the country which had been killing his own brothers far before independence, why would any sensible person think he wasn't comfortable and supportive of Balewa abusing power to cause unrest all over and use the army illegally to kill peaceful protesters? |
joeyfire:Your problem is that after recovering from the shock of any hard fact or superior logic you see, you gather yourself up again and begin to throw tantrums. The mere fact that you mentioned Wikipedia as a credible source of information is enough evidence that you are the intellectually shallow one here. Only a hardline ignoramus would shamelessly speak confidently of Wikipedia which has a visible edit button that makes its contents easily editable by any Tom Dick and Harry. Even you yourself can edit Wikipedia. All you need to is search for the information on Google, click on the icon that looks like a pen, move your cursor to the very sentence you want to edit and then delete or add any information you wish to. Then click on the "post" button and that's all. Try it right away and see for yourself. Now, you said Zik had no powers of his own whatsoever hence couldn't be accused of any wrong done by the NPC-NCNC coalition government. Then again you now claim Nzeogwu and co were after the entire government inclusive of Zik obviously for the misrule and abuse of power by that government. My question now is that: why did they include the Zik who occupied a powerless position in that government hence didn't do any wrong according to you? Or are you suggesting that Nzeogwu and co had a personal beef with Zik which they only wanted to settle the scores with the coup? The reason they were after Balewa was his abuse of office. Okotie-Eboh's was perceived corruption. Akintola's was his abuse of power in the West. Ahmadu Bello's was because he was the hand behind Balewa. What was Zik's own who was a figurehead and had no powers he could abuse according to you? Please answer. |
joeyfire:If you had been able to convincingly discredit the source before dismissing the contents verbally, I would have taken you seriously as that is what intelligent persons do if they can't provide counter evidence to a documental evidence. |
BigIyanga:I am talking of the independence constitution by which each region retained 50% of her revenue, remitted 30% to the center and threw the remaining 20% into a common distributable pool. |
joeyfire:Operation Wetie was the final outburst of a long pent up anger that started brewing since 1962 over the the unconstitutional means repeatedly deployed by the Zik-Balewa NPC-NCNC coalition government in its attempt to take over the Western Region and kill AG.. Thank God you are honest enough this time to agree that Zik pulled NCNC out of the NPC-NCNC coalition in 1964. Now, the question is: why didn't Zik do that in 1962 when the NPC-NCNC just started using Akintola and unconstitutional methods in trying to take over the West and kill AG? Why did he wait till 1964 after Akintola had won the battle and shaken off the NCNC in the West before he pulled NCNC out of the coalition at the center? I need answers. |
joeyfire:Zik jointly shared that power with Balewa. That is what I said. If after taking the pains to show you hard evidences from a combination of journals authored by live witnesses of those events among whom were Europeans and Nigerian professional journalists, you could still call it bear parlour talk without having opened it to read for yourself, then whoever thinks he can convince you with proofs and evidences must be a very idle person. |
joeyfire:You obviously can no longer use as escape route the lame argument that Zik was a figurehead president. FYI, Zik, as 'figurehead" president still had some exclusive powers in the constitution back then. For example he alone could call on the elected prime minister to form a government or else the country would be at a standstill. He used this power briefly against Balewa in protest of the 1965 election's poor credibility. |
joeyfire:If you had any capacity to reason logically you would have been able to deduce that Nzeogwu's inclusion of Zik in the hit list was because he as president must finally sign any document by which the prime minister deployed the armed forces for any operation. |
joeyfire:So only World trade center attack you saw there? You didn't see far earlier disturbances that happened in America there. If after existing for about 190 years America a working America could record police invasion of a university and a terrorist attack in their 234th year of existence, and even a full blown civil war in about the 100th year of its existence, isn't it stupid for you to say that Nigeria wasn't working because of a far lesser chaos that happened just three years into its existence? Are you really this dull? |
joeyfire:This is more than pathetic. Nzeogwu was himself a soldier but he put Zik's name on the hit list because of the troops being deployed unlawfully all over the country. I guess you understand the dynamics of the relationship between the executive (Zik-Balewa) and the armed forces better than Nzeogwu, right? Idiot! And I have been asking you whether America never worked just because all the disturbances I listed above and many more ever happened there. Your kinsmen are all over South Africa because they believe it is currently working better than Nigeria yet South Africa is full of frequent incidents of xenophobic uprisings and massacres. Please which school did you even attend? |
joeyfire:You are now suffering from the agony of defeat. We all believe that America is working even though there are frequent uprisings there, for example the case of George Floyd, the Marthin Luther King protest, the, American civil war which saw deaths of thousands of civilians, the 1961 invasion of a university by the American police which left many students dead on campus, the Herbert Hoover protests that nearly set the country on fire, the recent invasion of Capitol complex by protesters in support of Donald Trump, the Watergate Scandal, the bombings of WTC which recorded over 3000 deaths, etc. Going by your silly idea of a working society we can say America has never worked because all the following happened there right? You are simply a dunce! |

I said it was a resistance to the Zik's and Balewa's violations of the independence constitution through which Nigeria was making progress. Is it too difficult for you to understand? I already said it that you will only return to dismiss the hard evidence without providing any contrary facts. Aren't I vindicated now? You said Nzeogwu planned a coup right? Why was Zik's name number 1 on the hit list of Nzeogwu? Recall that the coup was inspired by the unlawfulness of the Zik-Balewa government which used the army to kil peacefully demonstrating Tiv and Okrika people. Where in that constitution was the army given the power to quell demonstration where the police was? |
joeyfire:So you couldn't see where it is clearly stated in the story that Zik was the leader of the NCNC which spearheaded all that negative activities? You didn't see whete Okpara, the foremost Zik loyalist, decided to draw back? You are simply beyond salvage. And I have asked you why Zik decided to team up with Balewa to start violating a constitution which kept Nigeria working. Before independence we were even already operating that system. So why wasn't there operation wetie before Zik and Balewa combo and Ironsi's onslaught on that constitution? That source I have provided put to bed all your revisionist tales. |
Christistruth00:Have you ever noticed that despite their claims that Yorubas are evil, deceptive, etc, etc and that they hate Yorubas on account of that, they however love Obasanjo far more than all their heroes combined. What Obasanjo would say or do and they would gloss over it, another figure from even among their Igbo nation would say it and they would take him to the cleaners. In one debate with one of them here over the state by state results of the 2015 election, he insulted Edo State people with unprintable names for on the complaint that the 40% Buhari got there was too much from a SS state. I reminded him that Buhari got almost 30% too in Imo but all that fell on his deaf ears, then he continued ranting that Edos are evil, sellouts, black sheeps, willing slaves to Buhari, blah blah blah. Then somehow the debate digressed into Obasanjo's administration. I was shocked when this guy began to label Obasanjo as a patriot, a bridge builder, a defender of SE and SS interests, etc. Then I reminded him that the same Obasanjo supported Buhari for 2015 so how does that make him a defender of SE and SS interests and a far lesser support from Edo State for Buhari made Edo people sell outs to the SS and SE interests. He was short of words and cleverly left that thread. This left me wondering why these people harbour such a blind and self destructive love for Obasanjo. It was later I discovered that Obasanjo wrote a book on Nigeria's political history in which he distorted many facts to please them. In my entire life I have never seen any other people who are so emotional and so much love lies and revisionism. |
Christistruth00:You should by now know that these people are allergic to documented hard facts hence will only reply by verbal dismissal of these documents you are providing but without providing any superior one. Look at how that Joyfire was celebrating her posting of a video in which Akintola spoke Yoruba, which I am sure she doesn't understand, all the while I was composing my comprehensive evidence of Azikiwe's involvement in the Western Region crisis but ran away like Ojukwu did to Ivory Coast once I posted the response. She will come back later to just dismiss the whole thing verbally without providing any document for evidence. Just watch out. |
joeyfire:Another bold and shameless attempt at revisionism you and your kinsmen are renowned for. The AG-NCNC alliance which became the UPGA was formed in 1964 after Michael Okpara and Azikiwe had completely backed out of their journey to self anihilation which first looked like the anihilation of the AG in their eyes as revealed in the details I poured out from that source above. Recall that it was in early 1964 that Michael Okpara was delegated by the NCNC from the East to visit Awolowo's wife in Ibadan (Awolowo himself now in prison hence couldn't be reached directly except through his wife) with the aim of first apologizing to her for Azikiwe's rejection of the proposed AG-NCNC-NDC alliance four years earlier, and then making amends by proposing the formation of a new Yoruba-Igbo alliance since the NNA (The new Akintola-Balewa coalition) had used underhand tactics to get Dennis Osadebe of the Midwest into their fold. Initially, AG youths threatened to turn Michael Okpara back in rejection of his proposal but Awolowo's wife prevailed on them to give him a second chance owing to the danger staring at the south and likely to finally place everyone under Hausafulani hegemony perpetually as threatened by Maitama Sule. |
joeyfire:You already have it above. What were Michael Okpara and Azikiwe backing out from? Why couldn't Azikiwe resign from the coalition government between his party NCNC and NPC if he wasn't really in support of all that the government was doing in the West? Can you provide a single evidence of an instance in which Zik publicly condemned his slave master Balewa over his unlawful interference in a purely internal affair of the Region? At least Okotie-Eboh who was himself also part of the whole plot came back to his senses on seeing his fellow Midwesterner Enahoro suffering in jail for rather fictitious charges hence he began to publicly call on Balewa to shake off the apron strings of Ahmadu Bello and rely purely on his conscience in handling the situation. Ironically this was the Okotie-Eboh you Igbos murdered by twisting his head through 360⁰ while you left the Azikiwe who never protested walk free. What a wicked and demonic people! |
joeyfire:https://www.academia.edu/6198062/The_Fall_of_the_First_Republic Page 14: The NCNC had repeatedly tried to break up the Western Region in the past, but had failed to pull it off in parliament when the AG was then strong enough to act as an effective bargainer for Yoruba interests Page 11: Twice the Awolowo faction tried to convene the Regional Assembly, twice the Akintola faction violently disrupted the session, and twice necessitating the police to clear the Regional parliament with tear gas. The parliamentary brawls finally drew the two governing parties directly into the fray. Lured by the opportunity to destroy the AG and win the West for themselves, the NPC and NCNC wasted no time in capitalising on the chaos. Using their control of the federal government, they controlled at the center. Page 13: 1963 brought no respite for the rapidly collapsing AG. On the 1st of January, to the surprise of few, Akintola was re-installed as Regional Premier without an election. An election would have revived the flagging fortunes of the AG as Alhaji Adgbenro, the party candidate, would almost certainly have won. Akintola’s return was only made possible by his alliance with one of the governing duo-the NCNC. In return, Akintola rewarded his Eastern ally with a “generous share of power in the West”, resulting in the NCNC scooping up numerous regional ministerial portfolios Page 15: The eminent Stanford political scientist, Larry Diamond, in his Class, Ethnicity and Democracy in Nigeria, described the collapse of the AG thus: The breadth and magnitude of the defeat inflicted upon Chief Awolowo and his AG supporters by the NPC and the NCNC was simply staggering. Not only did the Awolowo Action Group lose the power struggle in the West, it was also destroyed as an effective opposition force . The collapse of the AG immediately led to realignments in the political constellation. With his regional rival in jail and his grip over the West consolidated, Akintola shook off his alliance with the NCNC, dismissed their members from the regional cabinet, formed a new party – the Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP) – and realigned it with the NPC. Page 16: The Northern Region now stood poised to bring Nigeria under its sole captaincy. Maitama Sule, then an NPC Federal Minister, however, observing the changes taking place, remarked with breath-taking confidence:“In a very short time, the NPC will rule the whole of Nigeria”.Eastern Regional Premier (and Zik loyalist,) Michael Okpara, recognising that the emerging political balance would be unfavourable to the East,[tried to “draw back” from the “total extinction” of the AG" Now you see how Zik's loyalists in NCNC were everywhere supporting Akintola and Balewa's illegal and unconstitutional methods of killing the AG because they knew that they wouldn't be able to achieve such within the confines of the independence constitution which gave autonomy to each region. You can also see where Michael Okpara publicly began to draw back from the anahilation of the AG because he feared that such a scenario would now endanger his own Eastern Region. You can see that his concern was about his own Eastern Region alone and not about the entire South that was in trouble at that moment. You see how self centered you Igbos have always been? You only pretend to believe in Southern unity whenever your friendship with the Hausafulanis go sour. Now, do people withdraw or draw back from a thing they never took part in? If Okpara and Zik were never involved in the schemings of NPC-NCNC coalition government to kill AG through taking sides with Akintola in the rift with Awolowo, what then were they selfishly backing out from when their Eastern Region became endangered by the emerging political omnipotence of the North as threatened by Maitama Sule? |
joeyfire:The rift between Akintola and Awolowo initially took a legal and lawful procedure hence the AG set in motion a process to impeach Akintola which was sailing through very easily. But out of fear of the AG's soaring popularity among the masses on the strength of its democratic socialism campaign, the Zik and Balewa coalition government at the center decided to interfer in the impeachment process using unlawful tactics which involved teargassing AG members of the Western House, Zik's loyalists in the Assembly e.g. Ebubedike or so breaking the mace, and finally the imposition of state of emergency on the whole Western Region for a disturbance just within the House of Assembly all in a bid to strengthen Akintola unfairly in order that NCNC would take over the West forcefully and then align the West with the North to shame Awolowo and AG. Without Azikiwe and Balewa unlawful intervention, Akintola would have been easily impeached and there wouldn't have been anything like Operation Wetie. So anyhow you look at it, it all stemmed from the violation of the federal constitution by Azikiwe in pursuit of his dubious agenda to suppress AG. |
joeyfire:That is why I say you are a crass ignoramus. Operation Wetie was remotely caused by the fact that Tafawa Balewa, with the support of Igbo members of the Western Region House of Assembly and the Federal Parliament, violated the clear provisions of that constitution by reinstalling Akintola as Western Region Premier without election contrary to the dictates of the Western Region Constitution. The rigging of the 1965 election was also as a long term fall out of Zik's decision to collude with Balewa to flagrantly violate that same constitution by way of disobeying the Privy Council's verdict on Akintola through a retroactive bill passed by majority votes of the Igbo and Northern members of the parliament which overode the Privy Council's verdict retroactively to install Akintola who was at that time still an ally of Zik in his push to decapitate AG and put Awolowo out of circulation in order that his NCNC would take over the West by hook or crook. Go and read you little ignorant thing! |
joeyfire:Idiotic pig from AfghanEASTern Republic. Repeating the same question like a broken record and pretending not to be able to read. What does it mean for a country to be working in your own idea if you have one at all? Coconut head! |
joeyfire:You obviously have no use for logical reasoning. Haven't you ever heard that Nigeria was a net exporter back in those days with each region trying to outdo the two others in terms of infrastructural projects? Wasn't it before the coming of Ironsi you hear about Coco House, Western Nigeria TV, Western Region Investment Board, Eastern Region partnership with Israeli experts for certain industrial projects of large scale, Kano groundnut pyramids, tin mining in Jos, Coal mining in Enugu, Northern Region establishing five potential universities at the same time, ongoing development of 12% area of Sambisa forest for ranches thus the forestalling of this present menace of Fulani Herdsmen and Boko Haram occupancy of Sambisa, Ahmadu Bello's policy of incorporation of Western Education into the curriculums of Islamic schools to avoid radicalization of the products of such schools, local government police that gathered intelligence at the grassroots for the federal police thus keeping insecurity totally down, and lots more? Did you ever hear of any of these again sequel to Ironsi's arrival? Your responses here reveal that you are of the indomie generation. I usually don't engage indomie generation babies on discussions about Nigeria's political history because they bore the whole thing with their stubborn ignorance and keep asking stupid questions. |
joeyfire:Then you obviously attended a bush school in AfghanEASTern republic where you weren't taught comprehension. |
BigIyanga:And you forgot that it was under OBJ that the 50% retention by the regions reduced to nearly zero. Can we also say that IBB did Yorubas a favour by first annulling June 12 election, watched MKO get jailed and killed for fighting for that June 12 mandate, and then handpicking Obasanjo, buying him the PDP ticket and helping him to become president? |
tesppidd:Oil full your head. Your brain na heaven made. |
