AntonVince:2003, 2007 elections remain the least credible elections in the history of Nigeria for anyone to base any political demographics theory on. Even The declared winner of 2007 election admitted that it was a sham. The international observers said same. 2003 election wasn't any different. My reference therefore is 1999 in which Obasanjo swept a lot of Core North states in a free and fair atmosphere. Find below core North figures from the peaceful and genuinely credible 1999 election. https://www.electoralgeography.com/new/en/countries/n/nigeria/nigeria-presidential-election-1999.html Core North state: Obasanjo: Falae Bauchi: OBJ: 834,309 Falae: 342,233 Borno: OBJ: 581,382 Falae: 334,593 Jigawa: OBJ:311,571 Falae: 237,025 Kaduna: OBJ: 1,294,679 Falae: 381,350 Kano: OBJ: 682,255 Falae: 222,458 Katsina: OBJ: 964,218 Falae: 229,181 Kebbi: OBJ: 339,893 Falae: 172,336 Obasanjo who was as of that moment wearing the tag of a charismatic born again Christian cleared those 7 major core North states and lost only the less important Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara and by very very slim margin in each case. So your theory of the Core North voting for religion is watered down as a misinformation meant for the simpletons. Core North and the North generally, including the middle belt, does not vote for religion but for commitment to the status quo of the fraudulent one-Nigerianism by which they all take the lion share of the national revenue which comes from the South nearly by 100%. Once they sense that you lean towards decentralization and restructuring they will never vote for you regardless of being a moslem or Christian. In 2019 Atiku lost in the North for mouthing restructuring and having a running mate from a region whose natives' voice is now loudest, albeit hypocritically, about restructuring. The Core North faction of the APC represented by Buni is currently trying to upstage Tinubu's 2023 bid because of his antecedents as a unrepentant advocate of true federalism. Obasanjo caught their fancy in 1999 for his pro-one Nigerianist antecedents, open anti- true federalism stance and centripetal decrees as Military HOS. Even the Ortom of Benue currently running his mouth against Buhari would secretly wish to have Buhari for a third term if his PDP throws up a Southerner or even middle belter known for pro-restructuring antecedents. Forget about all his anti-Fulani propaganda which are made to pull the wool over the eyes of the shallow minded. Is Ortom not currently supporting the APC-led FG over his own party led Rivers State about the latter's pro-restructuring VAT war? Why do you think the Core North faction of APC was recently flirting with the idea of returning Jonathan to power through the same APC that campaigned heavily against him in 2015? You think it is borne out of any conviction that Jonathan did better than Buhari is currently doing? It is all actually about returning power to the North as soon as possible through a one Nigerianist which they know Jonathan is. |
AntonVince:In an attempt to substantiate your claim that NW and NE never voted for Obasanjo or Jonathan, you started talking about how Buhari won in some of them in different elections. Aren't you supposed to just furnish your readers with the figures from those elections? If you may know, Obasanjo won Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, and many other NE and NW states which constitute the Core North. Only Jonathan could be said to have lost the Core North. But then the question becomes why Jonathan decided to dump the middle belt and SW where he got votes and rather decided to start trying to please the same Core-North which hated him? |
Jostoman:Orji Uzor Kalu joined APC for the first time in 2018 which was five clear years after the party was formed. Get your facts right. Now that you keep insisting that APC was formed to scam Nigerians, then why have you kept on demanding APC ticket? Or you too want to scam Nigerians further? And I guess PDP was formed to give Nigerians Mother Theresa treatment yet in the 16 years of the party Nigeria degenerated from a peaceful secular state to one ravaged by religious terrorism, Niger Delta militancy, kidnapping becoming a lawful enterprise, bribery and corruption got taken to an unprecedented high, etc? PDP was created to scam Nigerians and to specially scam Igbos hence Igbos slaved unquestioningly for the party for 22 years without anything to show for it unlike the other tribes less committed to the party but enjoying projects and presidential tickets from them, eg. Hausafulanis, Yorubas, Ijaws, Middle Belt, etc. |
Macphenson:I am at loss as to where injustice is in people's choice in elections. You might call it political injustice. But where was this Igbos' sense of political justice to the extent that they refused to speak out as did Yorubas like Tunde Bakare, Wole Soyinka and lots of other SNG Yoruba activists when Jonathan was about being denied his constitutionally guaranteed succession to Yaradua by the Turai-led cabal in Aso Rock. Why again didn't that sense of justice make them speak out against GEJ while he sidelined the SW in appointment which were heavily lopsided in favour of their SE? The truth is that Igbos' love for Jonathan wasn't really altruistic but borne out of the fact that he took up the name 'Azikiwe' and poured the juiciest appointments into the SE. Tinubu also supported Jonathan who was already a part of the disastrous Yaradua government on account of the facts that Fulani Herdsmen menace started from them in 2009 in Plateau State, they inherited Boko Haram from Obasanjo and couldn't do anything about it, they massacred over 3,000 civilians in Oporoza Community in Delta State with JTF, and that Jonathan was already borrowing to pay salaries amidst selling crude oil for an average of $100 pp. In the 2015 you refer to, Boko Haram had entered right into the FCT bombing Diplomatic missions buildings and several other spots unlike today, bombings churches on Christmas day unlike today, sacked whole communities in Adamawa and took over 14 LGAs unlike today, and had further moved South to Kogi State. Even Okonjo Iweala, a super minister under Jonathan, had made it clear that whichever government took over from Jonathan would have a very tough time addressing the effects of the profligacy of his administration. SLS publicly declared that GEJ couldn't account for over $20bn crude oil revenue and rather than sack and file for defamation against him, all that GEJ could do was to smile as usual..... meaning he admitted the accusation. Please kindly quote where you have heard Tinubu asking for power shift to the Southwest. Is it that you live by assumptions or what? Tinubu is angling for the APC ticket on account of his own personal capacity and contribution to the founding and nurturing of the party and not because he feels it is the turn of the SW. |
Jostoman:Orji Uzor Kalu was not in the APC at the difficult stage of founding and getting the party registered. He was rather in the PDP which was at that time in question labouring hard to prevent the birth of APC. Okorocha was ostracized and hated by Igbos for joining APC with the view to having the APC ticket ....... same demand which Igbos are making today. So Igbos should publicly apologize to Okorocha first or else they lack the moral right to demand for APC ticket. |
sharpden:First of all, I am not from the SW. That said, The SW is not asking the North for power shift to the SW. They are rather working towards the ACN wing of the APC having the 2023 ticket and that is entirely within the APC. No Yoruba person has come out to ask both PDP and APC to zone power to the SW or even South in general like the way Igbos' have been doing and even with veiled threats. The SW knows it has no stake in PDP hence is not having any sense of entitlement towards the part unlike you SE now asking for the ticket of the APC you never contributed anything to except insults, name calling like Amala Ewedu Islamic almajiri and Arewanistan party of demons. I don't know when expressing one's constitutionally guaranteed right to freedom of association has become sowing something to be reaped. If that is the case then what did the SW reap from Jonathan for their support for him in 2011? And does that suggest that you Igbos are in the political quagmire you are today by way of being served your 1960 meal of Azikiwe 'betraying' the South? |
Macphenson:Each time your likes repeat this line of Tinubu's betrayal of Jonathan, I am left wondering when Tinubu and Jonathan ever had any covenant of mutual support towards 2015. It takes dishonesty to pretend to have forgotten that without Tinubu's 2011 support which even involved a kind of betrayal of his own party's Ribadu in favour of Jonathan who was in the party that had been hounding him, Jonathan wouldn't have lasted in power beyond the remaining 1½ years of Yaradua's first term. This whole Igbos' talk of Tinubu's betrayal of Jonathan reeks of the same baseless manner of accusing Awolowo of betraying Ojukwu in spite of the fact that Awolowo never signed or even verbally agreed to Ojukwu on any joint secession plot. This Igbos' entitlement mentality is skewed because Jonathan is not even from the SE who alone have continued to cry betrayal for the past seven years. |
helpee:Didn't they leave their brother Alhaji Bashir Tofa and voted in bloc for Abiola? |
chiagozien:Still crying more than the bereaved. I am from the SS and the deep thinking SS person doesn't see Jonathan's 2015 self inflicted defeat as a loss. Even Asari Dokubo has repeatedly said it unequivocally that Jonathan's government was a disadvantage to the SS. Even the natives of Jonathan's Bayelsa State would later vote for APC in the 2019 guber election overwhelmingly. Even Jonathan himself unofficially became a member of the APC ever since his ouster from power as he has always worked for the APC candidates in all elections that held in Bayelsa post 2015. It is strange that 7 years after 2015 you Igbos are still crying over Jonathan when those who really own Jonathan have gotten over it and are moving on. |
AntonVince:That Jonathan lost solely on account of Core North's hatred for him. But on the contrary he won inspite of the core North's hatred in 2011. |
AntonVince:So the core North alone is the majority in Nigeria? |
AntonVince:So what do we say of those who worked with Jonathan in 2011 to unseat Northerners when their turn had not ended thus doing treachery against Northerners and destroying the zoning agreement which they and Jonathan all agreed to within PDP right from 1999? There is nothing like Southern Nigeria interest in politics of Nigeria. It is either North aligning with SE against the SW or North aligning with the SW against the SE so stop talking about anyone working with the North to unseat a 'fellow' southerner as if there is any political fellowship in the South. |
edochie12:Jonathan's presidency was actually a usurpation of the North's turn in PDP. Please recall that power was still supposed to be in the North when Jonathan, with the support of Igbos, forcefully took it away from them. |
Donclaracuzo:If we compare the fact that their first alliance with the North since independence seems to be favoring them with the fact that the four alliances Igbos have made with the North since independence all ended in disaster for Igbos with one even ending in a costly civil war, then it could be inferred that they are more calculative in politics. |
Amozever12:From your argument above, you seem to suggest that the chances of an Igbo man winning presidential elections will be high only when the North's influence (whatever you mean by that) and population 'advantage' wane. Would you mind giving us a guess of when these two factors of yours will ever happen? |
DMerciful:Ahmadu Bello's boast about Nigeria becoming the estate of his forefathers and the prospect of dipping the Koran into the Atlantic Ocean predated the Civil war and he made that declaration 10 days after Igbos handed him political power in 1960 on a platter of gold. That threat is what you see being implemented today through Fulani Herdsmen menace. DMerciful:APC was not the people's choice in Imo and Ebonyi but imposed by the Supreme Court and Umahi's defection respectively hence the unrest in Imo and the hatred for Umahi in Ebonyi despite his breathtaking performance with very lean resources. DMerciful:Agreed that not all Igbos are in PDP but the few ones in APC are an endangered species among the majority in PDP. Joe Igbokwe's house was recently burnt down in Nnewi and he was warned against visiting home for Christmas all because he is in the APC. An aide to Hope Uzodinma was recently caught and tortured with naked flames for being in APC. In fact Nnamdi Kanu and Ipob are pro-PDP. DMerciful:Fulani herdsmen menace started in 2009 in Plateau State during the Yaradua-Jobathan PDP era. So you arguement here is watered down. Contrary to your other claim, your fellow Igbo monickers don't agree with you for they are of the opinion that with 40% votes for Buhari in 2015, Edo was responsible for bringing Buhari and that insane reasoning is what made me register on NL with the mission to ask how that makes sense in democracy and to expose how Igbos have always aligned with the Fulanis at independence, again in 1979 and once more in 1999 and thereby destroying the much needed unity in the South to put Fulanis where they should belong. DMerciful:Neither do you Igbos alone have such population to cause them damage. The Southern unity needed to do that was eroded by Igbos at independence and that remains the bane of the South till today. |
Anago55:I was initially on guest mode here and didn't intend to ever register. However the hate messages Igbos and insults deployed here against my state by Igbo monickers embittered by what didn't concern them at all and which were 1. that my state didn't give as much as 90% votes to Jonathan in 2015 2. That Edo State monickers here resented the initial inclusion of Edo in Biafra maps compelled me to register, and that is what has been bankrolling me against Igbos. In essence I was provoked by the Igbo monickers in this group hence I registered solely because of the need to counter them with the ugly history of how they were actually responsible for the Fulani domination which they dishonestly accuse Yorubas, Edos, Urhobos, Ijaws and nearly every other tribe of and that explains your correct observation that I hardly comment on threads not directly related to Igbos as it relates to Nigerian politics. My joy is that since I joined here in 2015 I have been able to open the eyes of a lot of Nigerians to the historical facts that Igbos sold the South to Hausafulani domination which they themselves now wail about everyday. I have been able to show that Igbos destroyed the equitable structure which Nigeria started with and that Igbos were actually the first offenders to nearly every other tribe. In all that, all I get are insults for these revelations rather than rebuttals woven around superior contrary facts and arguments and that is my source of joy and further inspiration. If Igbos had respected the right of freedom of choice of my state to vote for whichever party it likes be it in state or federal elections, I wouldn't have ever registered on NL let alone lauch epistle of anti-Igbo narratives. Hope you get it now? Igbos stirred the hornet's nest and must be ready for the stings. |
DMerciful:I can show you links to over 20 threads on NL in which Igbos, without any provocation, launched a tirade of insults against Edo for voting for APC in several state and federal elections. I can also show you that in which they took Bayelsa to the cleaners for voting for David Lyon. But you can never find a thread in which an Edo person set sail insults against the Igbo for voting PDP consistently. On the issue of Fulanis menace, our attitude to them is relatively passive not because we have any soft spot for them but because we believe that their attainment of invincibility and above the law status was caused by the Igbos' rejection of the proposed all-South alliance at independence which would have crushed their born-to-rule philosophy in the bud and place them at the low level they should have belonged in an ideal Nigeria. You yourself can't refute the fact that If Igbos had let reason prevail over sentiments in the 1960 alliance issue, the Fulanis would have been nothing today in a Nigeria where merit alone rules amidst strict regionalism, resource control and decentralized police which would have curtailed the excesses of the Fulani normads . |
Indispensable85:That is why I am always amused when Nigerians put blames on the politicians for the failure of the country. Most commentators abandoned the issue and focused on their assumed silencing of Oshiomhole by the very Obaseki whom he made governor against all odds. And these are the same persons who have been accusing the SW of betraying Jonathan whom they (SW) even supported to power in 2011. If not for Oshiomhole's own stubbornness and disregard for the voices of reason which tried to dissuade him from anointing Obaseki on account of historical precedent, who would have known Obaseki today? |
DMerciful:Wrong. No one hates Igbo for continuously voting for PDP. Like you rightly observed, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa have been voting for PDP but that doesn't attract any resentment towards them because their right to freedom of choice is respected. The difference however is that Igbos'don't respect the rights of others to vote any party of their choice. Look how Igbos' on NL deployed massive hate rhetorics against Edo for five good years because Edo chose to be ruled by APC on account of PDP's unprecedented failure in the state between 1999 and 2007. Even fellow SS states never resented Edo over that choice but Igbos' carried the matter on their heads as if they were more SS than the SS people themselves. Likewise, when Edo gave just 40% to Buhari in 2015 in reaction to Jonathan's marginalization of the state and servitude to Northern interests despite Edo State people were at the forefront of the intellectual and publicity aspects of the SS struggle for resource control and restructuring for which Jonathan was voted in by the whole South, Igbos' went all out against Edo State calling it unprintable names all over social media and labelling Edo as a NC and SW state even when the Bayelsa people and other SS states didn't show any resentment over that as they had not forgotten the pivotal role which Edo State natives owned AIT and Channels TV played in the struggle for the SS question. Even recently when Bayelsans decided to vote against PDP in the last guber election won by David Lyon, Igbos began to make derogatory remarks which were outrightly insultive on Bayelsans. This was what no other SS state ever attempted. Even Wike the main Bastion of PDP in the SS and the Governor of the closest sister state to Bayelsa wouldn't dare insult Bayelsans for that choice. But Igbos' carried it on their heads. Also, when Ben Ayade defected to the APC, Igbos' cried more than Cross River people. Then, even now that the situation of disappointment currently playing out in Edo State has compelled the slim majority that voted for Obaseki into regrets over their fall for the anti-godfatherism narrative, Igbos have continued chanting the Edo-No-Be-Lagos slogan more than Edo people themselves. Even Wike who deployed all his election arsenal to Edo State that day is now very perturbed by the attempts by Obaseki to upstage him in PDP relevance. This attitude of Igbos minding the business of other regions more than theirs once it comes to PDP vs other parties tussle is what breeds the resentments against them and it is why they are asked to stick with that PDP as far as their 2023 ambition is concerned. |
On this kind of thread which is about the possible ambition of a youthful dynamic new face you won't see the we-are-tired-of-the-old-cargos crew. They shout all day and night complaining of the so-called ancestors and old faces whom they credit with the failure of Nigeria but on this kind of thread that proposes a young man ladden with accomplishments and totally disconnected from the old order, if at all they decide to contribute, all they'll likely say is that he doesn't have the political structure, banking in not same as governance, his region has had its turn, he is politically inexperienced, blah blah blah but forget that in the context of Nigerian politics, political experience translates to being part and parcel of the very old cargo they hypocritically claim they no longer want. Useless set of inconsistent youths. Let me hear anyone of them complain against Tinubu's or Atiku's ambition again. |
07kjb:Ironically, the kind of politics we play in Nigeria and which has landed us in this mess today as you correctly infer was actually started by you Igbos'. Remember the ideologically deficient alliance that Zik forged with the ultra conservative NPC on the eve of independence? That was the beginning of the triumph of politics of desperation and selfish interest over politics of principles which would have by today put Nigeria in a place of envy among the committee of nations. |
My unanswered question remains; why are Igbos' afraid of demanding 2023 ticket as a moral obligation from the PDP which they have served blindly, and in defense of which they have insulted all other tribes and made numerous enemies for themselves for the last 23 years? There is no single tribe or any other party which Igbos have not insulted and called unprintable names in their loyalty and self destructive love for the PDP all in the hope that the party would on account of all that reward it with her 2023 ticket. When in 2014 APC extended to them an olive branch that could have seen an Igbo man clinch the 2023 ticket of the party, they rejected it with very vehement insults like Amala Ewedu Islamic party of Arewanistan almajiris and so on at a time when the PDP they thought they were defending was not only a party that was founded by the same Fulanis they claimed to hate, but also wasn't making any commitment whatsoever to an Igbo presidency. Southern States that voted for APC got labelled as traitors by Igbos' even through there was no pan-Southern accord to vote for PDP. PDP developed to a fully fledged religion in Igbo land so much that even their own better performing indegenous APGA had to battle against the forces of extinction within the SE on account of the strong wind of the non-performing PDP blowing all over the entire region. Even till today the average Igbo man hates APC without any recognizable cogent reason despite APC undertaking in their region projects which their beloved PDP only undertook on Corel draw and power point. So where exactly have they suddenly found this moral courage to start seeking the 2023 ticket of the same Arewanistan Amala Ewedu Islamic almajiri party to the near total ignoring of that of the PDP in which they have invested all their emotional capital in a manner of all eggs in a basket since 1999? If PDP is shy of zoning her 2023 ticket to the region that has so willingly slaved for it and stoically sacrificed blindly for it, then APC will be very naive to hand her own ticket to such a people. It only means PDP is either being plain dishonest and outrightly dubious or that there is something sinister the party has seen as regards the prospect of the SE having her 2023 ticket. |
Dayvidblue:You are obviously new here on NL else you wouldn't have missed the fact that Penguin is more Igbo than you. Go through a history of his posts here and you will realize that he is a hard core Igbo man. |
BabaO2:I am glad that there are still persons like you who are not infected by selective amnesia or outright short memory which have become the disease of nearly every commentator on Nigerian politics. In addition to your succinctly outlined hypocritic metamorphosis about Obasanjo, he withheld Lagos State funds over creation of LCDAs by Tinubu claiming that it violated the constitution. But after he left power and returned to Abeokuta, Ibikunle Amosun created LCDAs and made Obasanjo's village the headquarters of one of them and Obasanjo quickly volunteered a landed property of his to be used as take off secretariat therefore leaving one wondering when Obasanjo began to give an opposite interpretation of the same constitution he claimed was against Tinubu's creation of same LCDAs. Obasanjo frustrated all attempts by the Civil society to hold a confab on restructuring all through his eight years of misrule but he is now an overnight champion of the same restructuring. Obasanjo signed into law these offensive jumbo pay of National Assembly members and introduced Ghana must go bags to bribe them into approving his evil third term bid but today Obasanjo accuses the National Assembly of corruption and squandering of the nation's revenue. Obasanjo conducted a sham election through which he handed power over to Yaradua a Fulani man who was among the first governors to sign Sharia into law despite the secularity confered on Nigeria by the constitution, but today he is gallivanting up and down alleging Buhari of Islamization and Fulanization agenda. Obasanjo purposely left Boko Haram to fester into the monster it is today during his administration when it could have been nipped in the bud but today he is writing letters all over the place lecturing all his successors on how to fight terrorism with commitment. How many would one say? Obasanjo is a crass opportunist and a very shameless hypocrite. |
PrinceOfLagos:It is like me telling you now that Abiola's children supported the annulment and when you ask me to substantiate the claim, I will ask you whether you were expecting him to publicly tell the whole world that Abiola's children supported the annulment. I have as well mentioned a lot other military officers who disagreed with IBB over the annulment and granted interviews to that effect hence should have attested to IBB receiving instructions from Obasanjo to annul the election if that was actually the case. You have forgotten in addition that in 1992 IBB also annuled all the primaries that had produced Shehu Yaradua as SDP candidate and another figure as NRC equivalent. So who again instructed him to annul those primaries? |
Eriokanmi:40% doesn't translate to majority. |
plaetton:PDP itself didn't mean well for Nigeria by recycling a known unprincipled and character deficient man like Obasanjo to pioneer a democracy won on the blood of a lot of Nigerian nationalists against the very military establishment which Obasanjo belonged and still belongs to. |
PrinceOfLagos:Unfortunately you have no credible source for this your claim. Even IBB himself never mentioned this in any of the numerous interviews he would later grant about the annulment of June 12. Even many other army officers like Col. Umar, etc granted interviews in which they made a lot of compelling revelations on how June 12 was annuled and not a single mention of Obasanjo appear in such till today. So you alone know where you pulled that out from. |
PrinceOfLagos:I never knew that it Obasanjo was the NEC chairman or whom IBB ordered not to declare the results of the June 12 1993 election, or may be Obasanjo was part of the Armed Forces Ruling Council which advised IBB to annul the election in question? It seems you are trying to pull the wool over people's eyes by equating a beneficiary of an action to the doer of the action. And in any case, MKO was no longer alive when Obasanjo was handpicked by IBB to become president, so how does it make sense to argue that IBB took Abiola's mandate and gave it to Obasanjo when the election won by Abiola was totally different from that which produced Obasanjo? I don't understand your theory at all. |
NOwazobia:Same way young educated men sat down with all four senses and chose Obasanjo as their leader twice despite he was already known to have been part of our problems since 1976 when he first ruled, same way young educated men with their four senses chose as their leader the Yaradua whom they never heard of throughout the whooping eight years he was governor till after Obasanjo handpicked him and imposed him on PDP despite his terminal illness which had initially kept him away from limelight amidst no known attractive record as Katsina governor, and same way young educated men with their senses also chose Jonathan and later Buhari despite the baggages they both carried. While it is expected that common sense should dictate people's choices of leaders in a sane country, Nigeria is however a very insane county where common sense is relegated to the background when it comes to choosing leaders. So if you expect that to change now just because Tinubu is seeking to lead, then you might not be realistic. |
franchasng:In all of these you curiously forgot that Jonathan was actually the first to insult Tinubu and the entire Yoruba race in February 2011 despite the fact that just before then in 2010 Yorubas dominated the SNG group which poured out into the streets to press the National Assembly into making Jonathan the substantive president when the Turai-led cabal was hell bent on getting a Northerner to take over from Yaradua. If you can show me any proof of Tinubu insulting Jonathan before February 2011 when Jonathan described all SW leaders as rascals, then I will take you seriously in all your accusations above. |
