I'd also like the golf 3 painted like this (notice the bumper). I love your jobs, but I'd like an estimate of what this would cost. Thanks

yak: Anoda side of dis is weda his income can carry it. Eg a man who earns 70k,does it make sense he buys a car? That's not an issue. There is a car for every segment. It's not 'by force' to buy corolla or bmw before you drive. I am asking about the necessity of a car. |
Car Talk › Is A Car A Necessity? by deathwing(op): 3:55pm On Jul 14, 2015*. Modified: 4:42pm On Jul 14, 2015 |
What exactly is the rationale behind owning an automobile? Should I own a car because I am an adult who should have a dependable means of transportation, or should my wealth/bank balance determine my car ownership? The issue here isn't a cost of maintenance, because there is a car for every segment. What do you guys think? I am tired of the bus life, even though I reside in a well connected part of the city. I almost never go out if not to work. Despite this, I feel like having a car to call upon at any point of the day or night MIGHT be a good idea, regardless of the cost. In fact, I feel like having a car and being able to reach places in short notice may change the way I relate with other people, because at this point...I do not engage in any form of socialising It's just a feeling tho. Or maybe I'm psyching myself into getting one before I'm 'spiritually ready' |

Oga Gbenga...we are loyal.
I am the one who asked about a golf 3 to which you gave a detailed response touching on points like exchange rate and increased pricing for the vehicle.
I want to know if the exchange rate has stabilized now, because i am hoping to come to cotonou and meet you by June. My max budget, including customs, for a good golf 3 is 620k. Is that amount feasible as of right now? Thanks.
PS: It's Manual transmission i want. A good grade of golf 3.
(MODIFIED)
Also, Is the cotonou customs duty in the asking price of the golf? |

obynaDmob: NA WA o...someone will say no bank worker earns less than 100k per month and later say except contract staff. Those ones noe dey work for the bank?? The OP specifically mentioned 'entry level'. Contract staff are just that...contract. There is a big difference in pay. Some special contract people earn much more than the core staff though..depends on the work. |

I think you just like attention. Please research these nonsense you write. An Entry level salary is about 180k on the average. It's above 210k for some popular banks, actually. |

Mr Gazzuz can you kindly be clear on what you mentioned before? I know everyone keeps saying things about electrical cars, but is the issue the money to repair them or the difficulty involved in finding good mechanics? Aren't there things i should do to the golf 4 in order not to fall prey to damages and whatnot? When you say it won't take abuse, what does it mean? I am currently learning how to drive, so are you talking about handling? I don't intend to race it through the streets at night o The truth is, i think it's a really pretty car. I am in the creative industry, and to tell the truth, beauty comes before function for me most times. I have never had a car...so I can't say I am looking for some engine spec or whatnot because I don't understand those things, just as far as the thing moves around when i want it to, and can be maintained without breaking a leg. That's why i want to be clear of the danger of owning a golf 4. Thanks GAZZUZZ: Golf 4 is a good car. But unfortunately very very very fragile electrically and will not take abuse at all. For a first car avoid it. |

saintjoel: Sir,1999 camry and Golf3 are still in contention for now, people telling you it's cheaper may be into smuggling cos I don't know where they want to get golf3 lesser than what I've given you.
Normal asking price for a golf with automatic transmission and AC is 1.7M cefa with cotonou clearing, multiplying with N373 which is the current exchange rate,it'll give you N634,100 which is even higher than the amount we've been purchasing it. If you even manage to get an accidented one for like 1.3M cefa with cotonou clearing or even manual,it will still be around N484,900 with the current exchange rate.
Now,if you're paying custom duty,if it had been a time we were paying N75,000 as bank charges,N120,000 - N130,000 would have sorted your custom duty by with the 35% increment, the least amount we can pay for duty is N98,200 and with park charges now around around N5,000,you can see why we started charging N140,000 as custom duty.
Unless you want to go into smuggling or decide to buy in Lagos if you can get it cheaper than the quote I've given, cotonou is a no go area for golf3 and 99 camry for now but if people tell you that you can get it cheaper, you can go with them but please don't forget to give us a feedback when you're back from your trip.
There are some cars you can still buy with the increase in exchange rate but certainly not 99 camry and Golf3. Thanks so much for taking time to explain to me. Gbenga for president!!!!!! |

ojosegun2011: My most tideous journey was sometimes around August 2007 when Armed robbers blocked Lokoja -Okene Road on my way to Abuja and we all scampered for safety and Ilied down on top of a python that had swallowed a ram with two big horns. About four other passengers were hiding behind a rock resting on a log of wood unknown to us that it was a python until our weights was disturbing it and it flung us like sticks and rabbled round the whole cliff. The robbers that were chasing us eventually ran together for safety with us back to the main road on sighting the massive reptile which was moving towards a nearby river with two visible horns in its mouth. Two female passengers on sighting the python eventually fainted and were carried back to the road. That was my most harrowing travelling experience ever. The robbers ran away and we later discovered that they were robbing with only one real gone with few bullets and many toy guns and ordinary woods carved and painted like guns. They escaped into the nearby bush and disappeared. OH MY GOD!!! I read this out loud at my office and we had a good laugh. The robbers running away with you guys is funny as hell!! |
