EKO ONI BAJE O
LAGOS was never the capital of NIGERIA since 1914. get your fact right and stop misleading people (to score a cheap point) as NIGERIA gained independence only in 1960 and that was when LAGOS officially became the capital . What happened in 1914 was just amalgamation which was based on the percieved inter-relationship between the tribes in today's NIGERIA, especially where trade, religion and marital alignment are concerned. And moreover, each region still operated and improved its economy and development respectively independently without assistant-resources from another EVEN BEYOND NIGERIA INDEPENDENCE TILL 1966 WHEN STVP!D IRONSI broke the regional government for a central UNITARIAN government so please don't make it look like LAGOS was developed by the general common wealth since 1914 WHEN THE SAME LAGOS WAS FAR AHEAD OF OTHER PLACES EVEN BEFORE AMALGAMATION IN DEVELOPMENT AND CIVILITY IN RAIL AND BRT TRANSIT, ELECTRIFICATION, PORTS SYSTEM, BANKING SECTOR, EDUCATION AND HEALTH FACILITIES etc.
Please let's stop making unguarded fact to justify personal opinion. LAGOS WAS MET BY NIGERIA AS ONE OF THE BEST PLACE TO BE IN AFRICA. So according to you colonies didnt have capitals before independence? You are frankly illiterate. |

Its location on the coast and consequent designation from the time of the Portuguese as gateway to the lands that became Nigeria has nothing to do with it. Its international stature as the melting pot of the largest black nation on Earth has nothing to do with it. TopBanter: Of course I know that played a part. A significant one even. Yet all States have to make the best of themselves using what have that will then be harnessed by inspired leadership.
We would all be best served holding our leaders to account rather than playing victim and insinuating others got where they are exclusively because of favoritism.
Bayelsa, for example, has no businesses being where she is today. How many Bayelsans are complaining and protesting bitterly and publicly against their indolent leaders? Yet they all find their voice of scathing negativity when Lagos delivers another superlative project.
How can a hardworking and fair- minded person not resent that attitude knowing it is what is killing Nigeria?
I am from from SW and make no excuses. I deeply hate what has been made of Ogun State. A State that has so much potentials and should be running Lagos close because of so much natural endowment. More so than Lagos even. Most Yorubas are first to highlight our own problems and don't go around pettily attacking good developments elsewhere.
We face our woes and leaders even as I feel we need to do that more. Far more in fact. Nigerians need to go and do that in all their States of origin and stop poking their nose in the affair of others while neglecting their own hideous misrule at home.
It is the attitude of Yorubas to introspect sincerely on their own problems that led to the DAWN initiative and very detailed report, in 2013, highlighting the plan for the development of the SW. An interlinked rail system, to connect all thebSW, is even mentioned in detail.
Every region should be up and doing developing similar to DAWN and trying to implement solutions proferred instead of this sadism and busybody 'bad belle' consuming Nigerians and Nigeria today.
Gumi will tell us bandit feel neglected and let down because they have no education, jobs etc. Yet how I that the fault of the SE, SS, SE or middle belt rather than Northern leaders? Can Sanwo Olu go and lead Gombe or Borno?
Start a successuful business today and all Nigerians what to do exactly that and won't think of nothing else anymore. That leads to stagnation. Ditto how we found crude oil in commercial quantity and abandoned all other previous sources of wealth foe Nigeria.
Under regional governance, legislators worked part time and still drew their major money from their main jobs. Once the military made political offices full time and very profitable, all Nigerians wanted to be politicians or be affiliated with politic getting contract and largesse froma patronage system that should really be a call to service.
It is the same reason all Nigerians are flocking to the developed States instead of staying to challenge their leaders to deliver development others are enjoying.
The fact is that we really need to go through a 10 to 15 year period of all Nigerians solidly facing their leaders, region and problems while leaving others to do same. That is the only template that can develop all of Nigeria evenly and thoroughly Bravo. This is very well said. Good morning. |

Do you know how lazy, unimaginative and uninspired SS and SE leaders are? Truth has to be said to you lot because you never look at yourselves and prefer deflecting blame to others.
Bayelsa, for example, gets 13% derivation, has a relatively small population and has had her son as the Nigerian President. Yet it is one of the State that has 'failed' status today.
NDDC, set up and funded to better the lot of the SS, is a hotbed of wixked looting and unpatriotic corruption by SS leaders against SS folks. Whonis the 'they" making SS leaders do that?
All you lot know to do is complain and play victim of lagos-focused 'injustice' as if you are entirely powerless to shape your own space and future as Lagos is doing to the extent it is now one of the most understudied geographical space in Africa.
If we were in a regionally autonomous arrangement, is this how you lot will still be envying Lagos and complaining decietfully it is favouritism responsible for her development when the fact are there to show it is the inspired leadership Lagos has had, back to back, since 1999 that has made the State what she is today?
Look in the mirror, get up and start working innovatively. Stop complaining and playing victim which you certainly are not. Look much of what you say here is in fair order, however I hope you do not fall into the category of those who imagine Lagos "is what it is" exclusively because of its "inspired leadership" - to the exclusion of its role as the economic nerve centre of Nigeria. |

I cringe when i see women trying to teach men how to be men, especially when they have not worked in a man's shoe, Many more women than you will guess have walked in men's shoes and in fact been the men in their families. and when women where actually made for men and not the other way round. This is a sad chauvinistic statement based on antiquated religious notions. Men and women are made for one another. Should we ignore the glaring fact and Effects of Fatherlessness –
63% of all youth suicides, 70% of all teen pregnancies, 71% of all adolescent chemical/substance abusers, 80% of all prison inmates, and 90% of all homeless and runaway children, came from single mother homes. Socio-economic factors, as I said. Finally this is what the bible instructs older women to do, this absolutely settles it for me:
"These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands"
PonziHater The Abrahamic religions are generally chauvinistic and their conception of the place of women is antiquated and has no place in any modern egalitarian society. |

TopBanter: Just a bitter, twisted and sadistic soul. Even more sad if the character is truly female. What could be more sadistic than what has been inflicted on Nigerians since May 29 last year? Are you aware that the petrol price increase in a single day was the highest in the history of the world? In other words, in no country have petrol subsidies been removed totally in a single day so as to jack the price up at once by two hundred per cent. In every country this is done gradually in phases. Only in Nigeria was it done like that. Don't take my word for it, research it, I did. What is that if not sadism? And then you follow up immediately by floating the naira leading to such depreciation that devalues the naira so much that the inflation that kicks in is murderous. Is it that you don't live in Nigeria, or you don't shop in Nigeria or you are so rich it doesn't register with you? Because I don't get it. When people say these are teething pains they are deploying a familiar excuse for bad policy making. This could have been handled much much better by any leader who was sensitive. Sadistic? sgtponzihater1: When people ask what if? They simply want to argue, and do no deserve an answer.
The average man is stronger, taller and more muscular than the average woman. However, there are some women who could be stronger than a man. The what if group focus on that one woman in their village that used to beat men up.
However, we know from science and sports that men and women should not compete together due to the average male being stronger than the average female.
The average female is emotional and more focused on love and emotion, that why a woman will mostly will stick to her child even though he is a murderer, rapist, drug addict, or fraudster. She will rather give all excuses for him, and even claim society failed him. That's the heart of the average woman. She is 100% loving, but truth and discipline is not her forte. Some women try to be hard on their children especially in the absence of a father, but they take the control to excessive form, they were not created for this, so never find a balance. Other just pamper their child to stupor.
The average man However is less emotional and more focused on truth and fact. That's why men take time to make decision, as opposed to women who can make instinctive decision.
A child, especially male needs a good balance of love and truth to navigate life appropriately. We say I know a man raised by a woman that ended up well, however most people saying ended up well, are only looking at life in terms of money, and think if you have money then you are balanced and have ended up well. That's how depraved our society has become, a society that measure people in terms of finances alone.
I know a big brother star with cars and houses, raised by a woman. He was all over the house crying like a woman at every instance. People say he ended up well, however he is not an emotionally balanced man, as men do not cry at the blink of an eyes. Another owner of a Nigerian movie streaming app always rushes to social media to either boast of his children school fees being high or taking x number of holidays, then ends up making an apology, people say he ended up well because he earns well, but his obvious gaffs are not masculine.
PonziHater Mostly fair points I would say, but still life is too complex and variegated for this simplicity. A man is like this, a woman is like that - my dear, the truth is that people are simply different from individual to individual, such that all of the various traits you touched upon can randomly be found in both single mother homes and dual parent homes, and in fact even in single father homes. In fact you will find such traits scattered among children of the same single mother home - i.e: in that same home, there will be an emotional child and there will be a stoic child. That is the true natural complexity of people. When it is suggested that children from single parent homes tend to be deviant, I would strongly suggest that greater attention is paid to the usual socio-economic difficulty that attends such homes, rather than the mere fact that they are single parent homes. |

SmartyPants: But the post of mine you quoted explains already... key difference is in the operating environment. Urban area vs countryside. Vastly different.
Police generally don't train to operate in such environments. That is why our Armed Forces Act says the armed forces can be called upon to fulfil the policing function. It has already been foreseen that there are certain tasks beyond the police.
And its the same everywhere. In the US there are things ordinary police wont touch. The FBI or local SWAT teams will be called instead. At a certain level they can call in the national guard.
Same in the UK. For instance, the Iranian embassy siege was resolved by the SAS not the police.
There is a limit to what the police can do especially here where they are understaffed and underfunded. I understand that. It's just tiresome the way we move from one term to another with ease and for convenience. PS: An airstrike by the air force to hit one kidnapper still doesn't fly, no pun intended. |

Their training is based on the urban context and they do not have the tactical training or equipment to successfully confront bandits out in the wilderness. We create terms for convenience in this country. One day we woke up and realized that the word "bandit" exists. Who is a bandit? bandit noun [ C ] UK /ˈbæn.dɪt/ US /ˈbæn.dɪt/

SmartyPants: I think you're attempting to oversimplify a very complex issue. Thank you for your well reasoned response which I appreciate very much. We can also agree that there is likely to be a high degree of corruption in military procurement. That much we can infer from history. But we can also infer from history that this has been reduced. How? Well in the past, particularly in the Dasuki days, we saw tons of videos from soldiers in the field complaining that their weapons are inferior. We heard tales of entire bases being overrun. We can safely infer that something has changed. Now what the soldiers are complaining about is that their 35k wage award has not been paid. What happened in Plateau State over Christmas - and how long has this been going on for? How many people were killed - and how does that justify the conclusion that there is any improvement in security maters in this country? Where I cannot agree with you at all is where you imply that "kidnapping" is solely a Police issue. Not in Nigeria. Whether you call them kidnappers or terrorists, what we are talking about are highly armed, well-funded and highly coordinated militias who do not operate in the urban context. Tackling such groups is not what the police are trained to do. On the contrary, this is exactly what the military is trained to do. Oh believe you me, when a Boko Haram kidnaps over 200 girls from a school, I can accept this sort of argument. Not with the sort of sparse and disparate incidents being put forward in this case. The idea that Nigeria's security issues are overblown just for the sake of personal enrichment is far-fetched. The evidence does not support it unless you would want to argue that our neighbours, Chad, Niger and Cameroun are also just playing along for similar or other reasons. It may be true that there are people enriching themselves on the back of the conflicts but that the conflicts are being driven by the greed of those in power seems fundamentally untrue. To be clear I do not believe that Nigeria's security issues are overblown. They are very very real. I would be the last person to say that they are overblown. As an aside, you may have a peep at my personal experience here - and see why I would never say that - https://www.nairaland.com/1087891/armed-robbery-experience-thoughts-nigerianWhat I do believe however, is that the Nigerian state capitalizes on security issues in the most callous and corrupt fashion. In this way there is much subterfuge, much smoke and mirrors, much dancing behind curtains and much diversion of funds. I do not buy this particular incident of the airforce routing kidnappers. 1. How many Kidnappers necessitated an air strike? 2. What intelligence was gathered to be sure there were not kidnapped people with them at the time they were allegedly bombed into oblivion? 3. What government in the world addresses kidnapping through airstrikes by its airforce? 4. If this is a proper and accepted method, why was it not deployed to simply eviscerate those who kidnapped the Chibok girls (together with the girls?) Finally Wike. Unlike Dasuki, Wike is not in any way a part of the security apparatus. Dasuki had a reason to receive monies meant for arms - he was National Security Adviser. Wike is merely FCT minister and his sole role is to liaise with the relevant security agencies. There's no version of events where monies assigned to the armed forces will pass through his hands - so where's the incentive again? Please don't underestimate Wike. He uses political capital to make the unusual happen. I can see from the noises he is making that he will insist on a security budget for his ministry. And it will not be altogether unusual. Afterall, the FCTA is the government of the FCT and security is the part of the remit of every government. |

Children from single mothers tend to be the bad eggs.
It didn't say children from single mothers will always be bad eggs.
