You're jumping from point to point.
OK. I hear you. Let me try to settle down a little.

I thought you would explain why replacing kidnapper with terrorist doesn't cure the ill you've identified.
The point I sought to make with that line is that as a matter of fact, the question of kidnapping is the responsibility of the Police. Anywhere in the world. Sorry I was in a flurry and did not explain in detail but I thought that would come across: what our government does repeatedly is to classify ordinary crimes which are the responsibility of the police as "terrorism" (or some other outlandish and excessive term) in order to justify the wrongful deployment of unreasonable and heavy handed methods - such as deploying the army - and in this case - the freaking AirForce!

The AirForce to handle the crime of Kidnapping? Come on good brother, I surely do not have to explain to you how this is both excessive and unreasonable. And yes - also deceitful. Because you see, the way corruption works is simple - you first provide a justification for an expense. In military operations between countries, it is called a false flag incident. A fake incident, which, for example, can justify an invasion or the commencement of a war. An example is the allegation by the US/ UK that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. A perfect lie.

The next step is to deploy massively against the false flag. And all of this is done not to help security, but to justify the voting of more funds to security purposes and thereby enable the looting of such funds.

This is elementary my friend, and happens all the time. Boko Haram would not have lasted this long if it wasn't a conduit pipe for the siphoning of funds in the military. Everyone knows this, surely.

Then how does Wike come in here? How does an airforce operation lead to diversion of funds to Wike or others like him?
As a clever and kwarrapt polithiefcian he has suddenly developed a hard on at the right time over "security issues in the FCT" so as to demand appropriate funds, assistance from the Army, Airforce and if possible, Navy, to fight "kidnappers" and the like.

Good brother, this is an ancient method for the siphoning of funds.
Ask Dasuki.

So you also can't conclusively call me a government yes man.

What makes me a government yes man by confirming what is already in public space.... is NAF renewed energy not because they got new fighter jets?
Did we not order helicopters from US 2 years ago?
Did they strike a wanted terrorist?

You sha want to shut me down but you no reach..... And yes YOU BE PROPER IGBOMAN....I came to this conclusion because it's only igbos that go on and on about a topic they clearly have little understanding of but pretend to sound intelligent
Your conclusion that I am Ibo is enough to help me save my energy from further engaging you.

I find it pathetic and disgusting on this forum.

One simply says - "The President did X wrong" - and the infantile response is - "You are Igbo!"

Aside from the sheer extent to which this presumption is both unintelligent and presumptuous, it speaks volumes about the inanity of the tribalistic problem in this country. For heaven's sake what does being Igbo/ Ibo have to do with anything?

As a matter of fact (not that I need to tell you, but I share this just to point out the error of this repeated stupidity) - I am from Rivers and Lagos States (Father/ Mother). I have no Igbo/ Ibo blood whatsoever. However this begs the question. So what if I did? So what if I turned out to be Igbo? You would still be wrong on two levels. First you make it sound like some sort of genetic crime to be Igbo/ Ibo - and this is utterly sad. Secondly even if I were indeed Igbo/ Ibo - you would be wrong to arrive at that conclusion from a mere criticism of the current government.

Nuff said. I cant engage at this puerile and parochial level.

Printme:
The movie was cool. A Nollywood movie I actually enjoyed in a long while.

At the same time, I think it reflects on a very key aspect of life that most people never give much thoughts to.

That is, a male child will always need their father.

Regardless of how much a woman will love the male child, they will always need their father to be good influences in the society.

She gave birth to five children and all their fathers were absent. It's a lesson for women. Once you spoil your life, men will continue to chop and go.

No man will ever want to settle and train another man's child.

It doesn't matter how much you try to manipulate them with the "it's a mistake" or "a real man ought to take care of another man's child"

It won't work. They will just chop you and go and probably add their own seeds since you want to be unfortunate that way.

Also, statistics shows that male children raised by single mothers tends to be the "bad eggs" in the society.

And we all saw that in the movie. Not even one of the children turned out fine for the society. Instead, they were filled with that selfish love that put only their needs into consideration and never the needs of others.

And that's the kind of love women can give their children. Only a father's disciplinary love tells the child that other's needs are important.

It is the father that seeks to make sure the male child, no matter how strong he is, he never used that strength for his own benefits alone.

If she had thought the children to protect others and not just herself, they probably would have turned out fine.

Overall, I think the movie was entertaining but the lessons were still there except you choose to ignore it.
It is true that a father figure is very instrumental in the proper raising of a man, but bro, dont get it twisted - many single mothers have raised great men throughout history.

I hear you Mr Marcaroni
On a serious note, its quite distressing the way you "yes men" congratulate the government on nonsensical output like this. We have been virtually at war since the Boko Haram crisis erupted during the presidency of Umaru Yaradua. We have seen tens of thousands killed and more displaced. We have seen "Fulani Herdsmen" and so called "Bandits" become the fad. We have now seen "kidnappers" become the trend being pursued (allegedly) by the Air Force. Who is kidding who? Did we not all see what happened in Plateau State at Christmas Eve? This story is not ending and it's going no where. Its sickening to see comrades and citizens braying "good job" to such nonsensical propaganda as this.

Give me a break. Where in the world do you hear that it takes an Air Force to go after a "kidnapper?" And if an Air Force must be deployed to bomb a mere kidnapper we are to presume that no "kidnappees" are victims in the process. And no, merely deploying the word "terrorist" doesn't cure the problems. All of a sudden kidnappers are everywhere even in Abuja and the state is moving like Rambo to "catch" and "exterminate" or if you like "neutralize" them. In this people like Wike suddenly have an erection and you imagine that all of this, in our dear Nigeria, which we are familiar with, does not have as its end game the diversion of funds. Please, please and please, don't stress me if you don't know Nigeria well enough.

Not exactly correct. All parts of the world has their own particular disease depending on environment and climate. The hot and humidity tropics harbour more varieties of diseases than the cold poles. The issue is not really about the number of diseases themselves but on spread from one region to the other. Most locals build up immunity and defence against local diseases, the problems is when diseases are transfered to other areas that have the people have no immunity whatsoever.

Many disease were unknown to Africa until the coming of the Europeans. Diseases like Polio, syphilis, corona virus, and other were non existent before the white man. In fact when the white man went to America, imported diseases wiped out a third of their population.

All the plagues of the past emanated from Europe or Asia.
Very well said. It was with diseases they brought, and not with their guns, that they eviscerated native American empires.

Damn right we do.

There was a lot to learn from that thread. A lot.
It remains an instructive memory for me till this day. Quite often when I feel deeply frustrated, I look back to that day and draw inspiration. I say to myself - you who was so miraculously delivered from the jaws of death, there must be purpose in your life.

^^^
grin

A close relative relocated and was teased quite often by new friends about her very pronounced siege mentality. It took a lot of gentle coaxing by these friends for her to understand that the world (or the new country at least) wasn't just out to get her for no reason. Well...those of us she left behind are not leaving our mental bunkers anytime soon. Only the paranoid survive here. grin
When Naija comes for you it surrounds you and frustrates you. It would be as though a high powered mafia don has put out an order for your head. Because every step you take will be confronted with obstacles in such an uncanny manner that it will be hard to believe that there isn't an intelligent mind acting deliberately against you. This is probably what accounts for the conclusion of many people that their "village people" have come for them.

^^^
Exactly.

The horror stories don't get as much airtime. But they are there. lipsrsealed A lot of people here simply cannot conceive of how easy it is to fall from grace in these places. Some will come to a deeply personal understanding of the phrase 'one paycheck away from homelessness'...but their stories won't be widely broadcast. It is what it is.
This cannot be oversaid. I know all too many people who, over the decades, and still presently, are seeing "pepper" abroad. Many things we even take for granted here are so exacting abroad that there is simply no escape. Many do end up on the streets.

On the brighter side, one must also note that Nigerians are an aggressively industrious and entrepreneurial lot. And thus I believe we rank among the most successful and noteworthy diasporas in the world. Not many countries even have a significant diaspora, and among Africans, the Nigerian diaspora has no mate in any sense - intellectually, academically, entrepreneurially, and yes, even fraudulently.

The new frontier I foresee is young men of a certain age getting into big trouble (because of women) with the law in their new countries. There have been a few high profile cases and that number is almost certain to rise in the coming years. Far too many young (and not so young) men here think nothing of casual rape of an adult female or statutory rape of female teens. These young men have never paid any price for this here so its inevitable that they will be crushed when they come up against the system in other countries. That's when their 'japa' dream will turn into an absolute nightmare.
Now you have touched on a big subject here, especially in this day and age. Its no longer just a question of being jailed for actual sexual offenses. Increasingly there is the danger of losing your job or even career to an accusation that sounds as vague as this - "I was not comfortable with the way he looked at me and felt sexually harassed."

Its going to be very hard to convince anyone who struggled here mightily with no headway...only for them to leave and things took a turn for the better. What do you tell such people? The thing speaks for itself - their time in Nigeria just wasn't good for them...and things in the new place (though not perfect) are looking much better. For such people the argument is settled.

There are people who left and things got worse...much worse for them. And there are those who left and things got better...much better for them. The thing is...the former group tend not to say much...while the latter speak up loudly every opportunity they get.

Many, many Nigerians are very, very angry with the country of their birth - and for good reason. The system beats them up every single day without easing up. Some are then able to leave...and end up in a place where the government simply isn't asleep at the wheel and the system actually works. Of course they'll have nothing but harsh words for the old country - when compared to the new place. Its just human nature.

Every now and then I go back to your spellbinding thread about your hair raising encounter with those sons of perdition after you dropped off your friend that fateful night. Imagine what the life of that young newlywed bride in your story would be like now. sad The trauma never, ever fully goes away. Imagine the lives of the families of those slain that night - what are they going through now?

After all you went through, your vehicle was ripped apart by those it should have been safe with. undecided Experiences like yours are exactly what lead to the "una Nigeria" and "that country" commentary by those who turn their backs and look back in anger every now and then.

Nigeria is not an easy place to live.
Wow.... very fair and balanced I have to say. As I started reading was already forming a reply in my head, but just had to shut it down when I saw how balanced your comment was...

Ha! - So some peeps here still remember that fateful night. Na wah for Naija oh.

I have to say, this country is for the strong. It makes desperate attempts to squeeze the life out of its people. Everyday it tries again, and when you think you just have a breather, something new and vicious, and seemingly calculated to destroy you in particular, comes up.

I think what gets me about the "una country" thing is the fact that we are all in it, and there is no point trying to dissociate yourself from it even if you have "japa'd."

PS: You are very right about the fact that so many are suffering abroad. Someone who just left for Canada last year told me how he sells his plasma weekly to make ends meet. I was shocked to my bone.
