Faiththatworks: I believe there's a coordinated attempt to instill fear in the minds of Nigeria concerning 2024. I read Dr Sobowale column in the Vanguard online edition today and I was really bemused and flabbergasted, his doom day prophecy concerning 2024 is worse than what Isreal faced in the bible during the famine and drought of Prophet Elijah. He predicted food scarcity, currency scarcity, fuel scarcity, forex scarcity and concluded 2024 will be very difficult year for Nigerians. Bloomberg has decided to follow the same pattern as the Dr of Doom by predicting the Nigerian currency will perform terribly in 2024 meaning expect more devaluation of the currency next year. I beg to disagree with all these Messages of Doom being released by these so called experts, even when Baba Buhari with his Buharinomics was using 98% of our earnings to pay off foreign debt, the Naira didn't collapse. These experts all have something in common, they always try to downplay the significant impact the Dangote Refinery and the port Harcourt refinery will have on the economy of Nigeria. In the report by Bloomberg, they alluded that things will get better if Nigeria is able to produce more crude oil,I daresay Nigeria is already producing more, with local refining expected to Increase significantly in 2024, Nigeria will definitely produce more. 2024 is the year my country will turn a corner for good, like Dr Rewane said, revenues have increased by 200%,the states and local government have more money to work with. I can testify to this because my mother's pension in Lagos state was increased by 105% in the month of December. Naysayers should keep their message of Doom cos things are about to get better in Nigeria. God bless Nigeria.
Being hopeful, optimistic and patriotic does not mean we close our eyes to facts. Circa N200 to the dollar in 2015 to circa N1,200 to the dollar today speaks all that needs to be spoken. Anyone who can deny the problem here is simply determined to close his eyes. As a saying goes - it is extremely difficult to wake a man who is pretending to be asleep.
immortalcrown: The change you talk about here, if negative, can only be death or a sickness that will mobilize the OP. And if this is your thought and it is bound to happen, he leaving the brother now will not save him. Don't be a negative thinker in a case like this.
I had no such thoughts as these. Life is just unpredictable. Any change can occur at anytime. Two years is enough space to turn a life around positively or negatively, if even one day is.
IamMobisola: This is a terrible idea. This OP has been financially taking care of all three siblings for years while putting his life on hold. There are jobs those with HND 1 can do and make money, like 30-50k. In fact I have seen lots of jobs that requires minimum of OND. Let the younger put his HND 2 education on pause and look for those jobs, let him start making money for himself too and start to fend for himself. The OP only has an SSCE certificate while his younger bro has an HND 1. It is enough, he has tried.
God forbid anything happens to OP now, won't they survive?
Thank you. That last line is the most important thought.
immortalcrown: He sponsoring his brother for more two years will not make it impossible for him to further his own studies. It is not another journey of 10 or more years. The extra two-year journey is not easy but it is doable for him and does not prevent his own academic journey. But he leaving the brother now might cause him a serious regret in future.
Same goes for abandoning his own education and establishment. Such is very dangerous as well.
I pray he is rightly guided and receives help from on high.
immortalcrown: Finish what you started in your brother's life. Don't get him stranded. You have gone too far to quit. Sponsor his HND. Even if he is ungrateful, complete the sacrifice and let the gods take the blame.
OP please be very careful of advise like this. There is a reason why in aircraft you are told to put on your oxygen mask first before trying to help anyone with theirs. That's because if you are not fit, you can't even help anyone. Get your life in order and stand on your feet and then you can help even better.
Kingosytex: I wonder the type of mentality women have In Nigeria, no one is putting any pressure on you to make money, why can't you remain pure and chaste?
It's much easier to close one's legs and be chaste than to hustle and make money as a man. Why can't women close their legs? Must you always fornicate?
Men overtly encourage this whorish attitude, they set the trend that these ladies follow. The ladies have absolutely no power because the power of commitment lies with the man. If men set standards of no virginity, no marriage, all the women out there will close their legs and zip up.
wirinet: As I said earlier, Emeka showed love to his wife and children the best way he could. He sponsored his wife from JAMB to Master's degree, he opened two businesses for her, one being be school since she is a qualified educator. This boy that's is badmouthing Emeka up and down got the best education money can buy in Nigeria. Emeka sent him to Turkish international school, that's one of the most expensive secondary schools in Nigeria. He paid to get him into university in Abuja. Now you can understand Emeka's frustrations when one day the boy called his father that he no longer wants to continue going to school, but wants to be a musician. To make matters worse the boy is working as a waiter in a restaurant in Lagos. Any Nigerian father that loves his child will be livid.
Yes Emeka overreacted in the audio clip we heard, but the context of the conversation was never revealed. The mother just played the clip to fit her narrative. Why did she not play the whole audio conversation? I am sure the call was a set up. She already knew how Emeka would react and decided to record the conversation of the son telling his father that he has dropped out of school.
I know emeka ika has his own demons as no one is perfect, and no marriage is without its dark cupboard, but the wife is manipulating the children and public against her ex husband to gain sympathy.

JagabanB: Meanwhile SE people are always running from their vibrant places to a place that's controlled by "mèñtaIIy sick old crîmînaIs".
Stop this stupidity. Lagos is the economic capital of this country and its silly to taunt any Nigerian about living in, or doing business in Lagos, just as it would be to taunt any American about doing same in New York, or any Brazilian about doing same in Rio de Janerio, or any Indian about doing same in Mumbai, or any Canadian about doing same in Toronto, or any South African about doing same in Johannesburg.
To me this this the most important point of her interview; "Actually, I wanted to be an actress. That’s why I became his friend. I was modelling at that point, I just came out of secondary school. I was 18. Then I met him along the line, I was looking for someone who could put me through the industry and all that. He categorically told me I couldn't act because it will destroy our relationship. Because at that time we had gotten into a relationship..... ...He stopped my modelling career."
She never loved him.
It really is good to follow the maxim we were taught in school - "Audi alterem partem" - Always "hear the other side."
wirinet: Exactly. Emeka never mentioned his son's when he spoke, so i don't understand where the " our " private affairs comes in. It should be his mother making such statements and not him, except he is now the spokesman for his mother.
mach7: Great one from Mr. President and Mr. Governor.
To those who are crying more than the bereaved on the Rivers situation, and to those whispering evil advice in Mr. Governor's ear, ntooorrrrr!!!!
Rivers will have peace, Nigeria will have peace.
N.B. Nonetheless, Mr. Governor should find a way to reconcile with Mr. Super Minister. Mr. Super Minister is Mr. Governor's boss and benefactor. He should not bite the hand that fed him.
Ingratitude doesn't pay, it will haunt Mr. Governor in the future if he does not repent his ways and the fake friends (in the guise of elders and tribal warlords) around him will be nowhere to be found.
Let me pose a hypothetical question to you. Please don't avoid it by saying it is hypothetical. Because even if hypothetical it happens a lot in Nigeria and you and I both know that the likelihood that it is happening in Rivers is high. So don't dismiss it lightly.
Here it is. What if you were to learn, on good authority, that the price of the gratitude you speak of, is a covenant for a substantial portion of the state's resources and income to be handed over to the "super-minister" monthly.
Will you, in that circumstance, approve of the continuation of that sort of "gratitude."
loyedammy: What will you now say about iran, China, North Korea, tugistan, Belarus, Serbia, Kazakhstan, Chechen etc that have cleaverly found a way to fight on Russia side without been involved directly.
linearity: The same way Ukraine is not only fighting Russia but also fighting Iran and China?
The support of these two countries is limited and in the case of China in particular, probably ambivalent. Also any such support simply does not compare to that of the EU and Uncle Sam.
wirinet: Believe me he did not. He was being diplomatic and strategic. He cannot confront Wike and Tinubu headlong right now, as he is fighting from the position of weakness. He is yet to be confirmed governor by the Supreme court, He has only 4 house of reps members in his camp, he does not have grass root support, PDP that should have come to his aid is comatose right now. He needs to buy time to consolidate his hold on power. Paying the 27 legislators cash for Christmas should help in bringing some of them to his side. Paying civil servants money will also increase his profile among the people. I am 100% certain he will not recall the resigned commissioners, he will never approve the legislators to sit in any venue they choose. Fubara can't do much until the supreme court makes a final judgement.
Tranquill: It’s not even about Wike and that is what most people don’t know. Why do you think Wike is getting support even from Sims own immediate constituency? Sim was never a politician and couldn’t even win a councillorship election, Wike brought him onboard and many others did the legwork as foot soldiers for him to become governor.
Within 3 months, he started alienating these people, taking advice from other people that were vehemently opposed to his candidacy to build ‘his own structure’ and power base. Within 3 months, he wanted to sack all the LGA chairmen on the ground that they are loyal to Wike and then appoint his own loyalists as caretakers. These are the foot soldiers that made him governor. Why the so much rush just within 3 months? Why not let their tenure run out and an election conducted? Why the desperation? I hear one popular pastor in PH, whose presidential candidate didn’t win is among those misleading him.
This is just one of the several things he started, that made Wike and his group to react. Who would just let that happen? Then they started spreading rumours about Wike demanding for 25% of Rivers State money among other falsehoods, Sim knew they were not true and did nothing to debunk them rather allowed the rumours to fester.
It is not about governance and certainly not about money but more about the politics and Sim Fubara went about it like someone with evil intentions. That is the height of ingratitude!
If most Nigerians think the way you think, there is no hope for this country.
wirinet: Nobody and repeat nobody would accept such arrangement.
Nobody should. But in his Christmas day address, Sim seems to have bent the knee. I hope its just a feint. I really hope so, otherwise, he has thrown away everything.
Chimarto: Nawaoooo I expected Russia to do better in Ukraine but the war has exposed Russia's weakness.
They are not fighting just Ukraine. They are fighting Europe and the USA - both of whom have cleverly found a way to fight the war without getting directly involved.
Been induced too when I had peritonitis. As a man who's always seen his mother as God, literally. I only had thoughts of her and my senses were only dulled. I was somewhat aware that everything seemed warped. Even had thoughts about aliens working on me but after throwing the idea out, only the operating light seems attractive so I focused on it. And somehow, I knew I would live through the whole ordeal and that assurance alone made me a bit comfy. Only that mumu nurse laughing at me for repeatedly calling for my mum dey annoy me till date. Never knew how much I already took that my thoughts about my good old mama to until that year... Smh
OP has many stories she held true and allowed her mind to wander and foolishly thinks it's all real.
Smh
Even where what you say has merit, I don't think one should lightly dismiss extra-dimensional experiences - not even in sleep - and not even what we call dreams.
Balablue64: These things are part of the reason why there are no more sane persons in Lagos anymore, any 'sane' person in Lagos is a fool. Anyway op avoid small to medium busses, korope etc look for those tall yellow danfo 5 seater and always enter the front seat at the drivers part.
In a city with over 20 million people, any sane person is a fool? You do well.
