Family › Re: When Is The Right Time To Get Married? by delpee(f): 11:02pm On Dec 08, 2011
It seems that on the average women mature faster than men. A 23 year old man is hardly on the same level with a 23 year old woman. Many women who marry young and are able to keep their homes are married to men who are older than them. There are cases of soul mates though, who grow in love from teenage years and are able to sustain it for life.

IMO a man should marry when hes matured enough to handle his emotions, is ready to face up to his responsibility of being the head of the household (not only financial) and he has a woman who he can trust as a friend, sister, lover and mother of his children. Unfortunately if you wait till you are successful and over 30, its more difficult to assess those who come your way. Money beclouds issues and pretense is the name of the game for those who have smelt the money before getting to know you well enough except you"ve been courting before you hit the jackpot.

Anyway, by the time you are 27 you should have a clear view of who you want to marry.

@poster

Nigerians are naturally hospitable people so you will feel at home if you come. Seek your dads advice on your plans since hes in a better position to give you more details about your roots and culture. Associating with home bred Nigerians of your age group in the US may also help.
A lot of moderate muslims who marry christian wives actually make very good relationship partners and treat the woman well.

The problems start when the husband decides he wants to be more conservative. Then they usually visit mecca, take on more wives, etc. Not all of them though, but a significant number do.

But before then, they do take good care of their family and the wife rarely complains.
Quite true.

simpleseyi:
People interpret the Holy books to suit their own personal opinion which may not be in accordance with what the Holy books actually say.

I am a Muslim but I went to catholic schools from primary to secondary so the Bible is definitely my companion just like the Quran but I am still a Muslim today because I still cannot see the difference between the Bible and the Quran, the only difference I see is between the Christians and the Muslims, that is, the difference is not in the two religions but the difference is the people practicing the religions and interpreting the Holy books to suit their personal opinions.
I agree with you but please beware of those who will later try to "enlighten" you on how best to practice Islam. They always have proof from the Quran and Hadith. Just check out older Muslims who are or were married to Christians and learn from them. I am certainly not predicting doomsday, rather i will be happy to hear more good news from you many years down the line. All i have said is based on varied experience of people close to me. That will not be your portion by Gods grace. You will live happily together to Gods glory. Best wishes.

simpleseyi:
We got married early this year, so our children are still coming. Our children will go to the mosque with me and to the church with their mother. When they grow up, they do what they like. Mind you, I also drive my wife from our home in Lagos to Ota, Ogun State at least twice in a month, I will definitely not stay in the car park while people are praying in the church.

I believe in GOD and not in religion.
Thats really nice but you have to stand firm all the way. I know a few like that but the issue is sustainability in older years. What i have seen in some cases is that over time the Muslim man is convinced that he is not practicing the religion well e.g. it is said that a woman who is not married the Muslim way should not cook for you especially during Ramadan. Recently, i heard the story of a man who sent his xtian wife packing after 25yrs so that he can marry a Muslim since she refused to change when he suddenly became a fanatic. By the time you decide to go for Hajj, you may learn new lessons that may change your view except you choose to focus on the love you have for your wife and kids.

Fashola and Tinubu are good examples of Muslims who are happily married to xtians so success is not unattainable. I pray that your marriage remains solid, happy and focused.

@OP
Sorry o!  You need to convince him on the need for you to visit a gynecologist together. Sometimes if a miscarriage isnt properly handled, it could lead to complications. Also let him know you hurt doing behindbased. Pleasing someone at such great expense only dehumanises you and will not necessarily make him love you more. Consider yourself worthy of respect and you will be respected.

May God answer your prayers.
Romance › Re: How Do You Totally Forgive And Forget A Cheating Spouse by delpee(f): 2:45pm On Dec 06, 2011
Pray and meditate constantly for God to make it easy for you to forgive. Apart from the cheating issue, your write up did not portray him as an irresponsible or nasty husband. Think more of his positive values and appreciate him for it so he can reason objectively when you complain about his negative tendencies.

Bitterness brews ill wind which you don't need. It can also degenerate into hatred which is not good for you not to mention the spillover effect on the children who should grow up in a happy loving home.

Truth is that a wandering man will only relent by divine intervention (not death o) or after going through a harrowing experience. Pray for him always, do your best to play your own role well so you can have peace of mind that his philandering is not a consequence of your lapses.

Sometimes i calculate how many poor mouths can be fed, how many jobless people can be engaged in small businesses, how many GCE forms can be purchased for the less privileged ones, how many unemployed school leavers can be sponsored for apprenticeship and how many bags of cement can be bought by the average worker from the cost of one expensive Brazilian/Indian wig.

Its enough to discourage me and more so after watching the documentary on the young Indian girls at the temple sometime ago. Maybe its the way i am wired. We all have our preferences and are free to spend our income as we wish though. Just wondering aloud.

Family › Re: My Son Lied To Us For Three Years, That He Was In The University. by delpee(f): 12:06am On Nov 30, 2011
Its never too late for anyone. My son changed his mind about his course (which he chose for himself) after 3yrs in the university and so much money down the drain. We had his official results and could even view from the schools website so we knew he was in school and didnt fail. He simply lost interest and was emotionally disturbed. He told us he was ready to take up any menial job so he can leave home and take care of himself. He saw himself as a complete failure and disgrace to the family and didnt want to be a burden.

He worried about his siblings and the fact that he had disappointed all of us. Its really the most trying period of my life especially coming at a time of economic downturn. However, we became philosophers and psychologists overnight to get him back on track and avoid depression. He rebuffed all entreaties initially and gradually became a recluse. I just couldnt cope with having him drop out of school with all the problems that we had so i guess i worried a lot and made things worse.

My younger sister and brother in law later invited him over to stay with them for a while to relax and have an opportunity to think without undue pressure. Surprisingly, they convinced him to choose a new course and transfer to a federal university since he had his transcript. He agreed and is a happy young man today.

I also have an inlaw who was expelled from the university at 300 level. After all the adult noisemaking, nagging etc, he sat for JAMB again and is today an M.Sc holder, happily married and with a good job.

Its not over till death do us part. Learn from the young posters here who have been through similar situations. They understand what hes going through.

Just gave you a brief summary of my experience to let you know that you are not alone in the occassional trauma that arises with child upbringing. Please pray with him constantly, avoid nagging-( too late for that ), voice out positive things to him and show him love. Give him other options aside Open varsity like ICAN, Inst of Bankers, IT professional courses for which he can attend regular lectures and start working earlier.

This cross shall pass and you will look back and thank God for His mercies.

In all these, i am just wondering why Ojukwu said Awo was the best president we never had and why Ojukwu was friendly with his former colleagues in the Nigerian army. To me it shows respect and understanding of the circumstances of the war, not the extreme hatred and venom being spewed here by die hard tribal warriors some of whom were not born before the war and only rely on "tales by moonlight". IMO the war that ended 40 years ago is history only fit for general knowledge. So much bitterness after all these years and we claim to worship God who says we must pray with a clean heart and forgiving mind. Na real wa! angry angry

This happens mostly in CU, Babcock and lately Redeemers. Perhaps they are compelled to be more focused and in any case CU and Babcock have good facilities. This Madonna is something else jare.

Also a top female Naval Officer who was killed and thrown into the lagoon just so her Lekki plot could be sold without her consent and a female pilot in Lagos who was thrown into a soakaway in Ikoyi. Those ones dont believe in work, lets not mention hard work. Perhaps hard di.c.k and the soft reward thereafter.

Actually, some young ladies are hardworking, upright and inspiring for venturing out into new areas and making great success all the way as entrepreneurs. We'l keep hoping and praying that the lazy, bobo-must -provide, expensive to maintain ones change their ways so they can be good mothers.

How on earth can these hardworking women have any libido left in them?
Pity, some men will still go ahead and bully their tired bodies into submission as a matter of right.

May God abundantly bless our hardworking, never-say -die mothers. They are ever ready to sell their wrappers etc and sacrifice anything they have to see their kids succeed. Wonder where the brazilian wig and BB by force genes in todays sisis came from.
