@Ifyalways You are blessed for taking this up along with other interested parties. God will make all seemingly difficult things easy and we will all have cause to glorify Him when this couple is settled. The Mowe accomodation is a better idea for sustainability. A shop for the wife, ante natal care and a vocational training for the man though i feel a job (e.g. security) will be a great idea for sustenance while training. BTW i wonder why the LG Chairman and Lagos State Social Welfare Dept has done nothing so far. Anyhow lets do our bit. Well done my sister. Aa ni firu e san o. (May you never experience that type of situation). Amen. |
Whats the big deal about ironing her clothes? You married a wife not a slave. Drop the ego and be a loving husband. Your wife will appreciate it. |
Would be glad to contribute if someone trustworthy can organise this with Seuns supervision. NLanders should have a positive impact on lives and do less of e-tribal wars. Apart from getting them a room in an affordable and sustainable place, we could encourage the man to learn a trade and assist the woman to set up a line of business. Seems to me that all they need is a little support to raise them up. ![]() |
Cant stop laughing. Federal character is the way to go! At least it spares us the headache of reading the comments of tribal warriors who always conveniently forget that theres the good, bad and ugly for every tribe. |
What a pity! Always wise to look for practical solutions while praying along. There are many options for child seeking couples these days. I remember coming across a thread on NL detailing options available to people in that situation. Fasting by choice and praying for Gods guidance and wisdom to decipher the best steps to take works better than going by someone elses dictates. The fact is that our bodies are not the same and long fasts can be dangerous especially when dehydration sets in (i no be doctor o), just based on personal experience. BTW is there anything wrong with adoption in the worst situation? May her soul rest in peace and may we all learn to pray, fast and communicate to God on our own. God speaks to us individually if we care to listen without bias. There are indeed men of God but a personal relationship with God makes a lot of difference in our lives. |
Na wa o! I look forward to the day that we can discuss intelligently without extreme bitterness, hatred and agbero mentality. The question asked by the poster does not require most of the bigoted and tribalistic responses on this thread. Its a shame that people are so focused on tribal superiority that they cant reason objectively. Its so disappointing though its clear most NL tribal warriors know little and are unwilling to learn about our history from an unbiased and broad perspective. Great pity! @poster Any part of the country can stand alone if the will is there and they allow good leaders to emerge. The nation is blessed all round and we did well in our various regions before independence and crude oil. Perhaps what we really need is the type of federation we had then which encouraged decent competition among the regions and brought out the best in them. |
Too much stress and misery for the poor woman. Dealing with depression is easier if there are people who can shower her with love and care. Seeing a psychiatrist may improve or worsen the situation as i discovered while helping a young undergraduate who was so depressed that he was considered to be on the borderline to major mental illness. The parents had a major economic downturn coupled with illness which affected the home badly. The psychiatrist collected a lot of money for tests and drugs which only appeared to make him feel worse right from the first pill taken. He simply refused to take more.A friend in the medical field offered conservative therapy instead and it worked. He said it is better as a first option before taking expensive drugs. All it entailed was to have the guy relocate to a different environment where he was showered with love, forced to rest and engaged in positive activities with his peers. He took NO DRUGS except regular vitamins especially Vit B which is good for depression. (i no be doctor o!). He was back to normal within a month, is back in school and never went back to the hospital! We were told that if he had continued with the drugs, he would have become dependent and sick most of the time so the psychiatrist makes more money. This may not be easy for a woman who has kids to care for though. @poster Can you get close and reliable family members informed of her plight? Also try widows groups in religious organisations. They usually provide strong support for each other while benefiting from the assistance offered by other members to improve on their economy. As for a therapist try the government hospitals to avoid the profit motive in the private sector. BTW the curses she voices out arises from frustration. She means no harm. God will take care of you all. |
scribble:True talk jare. I understand the posters reason for this topic but some people are getting emotional again. Just a simple matter of people recounting their first hand experience as distinct from the grandfather stories which is full of bitterness and of little benefit to this generation. Cant we learn from history and focus on the looming boko haram war instead of dwelling in the past? God blessed the Igbos immensely after the war and will continue to do so. Now we need to see how to preserve our unity in diversity or fall apart on good terms instead of allowing boko haram to take over and ruin the country while we continue this endless NL e-war which will get us nowhere. Its 41 years after the war and the situation is quite different today. The history books and various autobiographies are there for those who want to know the details. There is really no reason to continue harboring bitterness and hatred for fellow Nigerians because of problems that occurred in a previous generation. Lets take a cue from Mandelas spirit of forgiveness, lack of bitterness and ability to move forward which is why South Africa is progressing despite all odds. |

Didnt quite witness the war nor up to 56. I however remember the Go On With One Nigeria (GOWON) , Dont sit on the fence,Join the civil defence and Take Cover jingles and the trauma of having the urge to run for safety at the sound of any flying plane even though i was in the SW. A govt school which later became my alma mater was then turned to a military barracks and the students relocated to another town. We stayed in that town because my dad who was out of the country felt it was safer for us. I still dont feel good about the war going by all i read in the papers while growing up, the propaganda and the massive loss of lives. If this country has to fall apart i hope it will be done by negotiation and not war. Just not worth the effort IMO when you will end up coming to an agreement after wasting lives. As for Aluta, that one dey plenty o! As a great Akokite when NANS was truly for students and not political contractors, dodging policemen and finding antidotes to teargas was a way of life. I miss those days when students single handedly fought the govt to a standstill though some paid heavily by getting rusticated or becoming temporary jailbirds. Of course most of the Students Union executives later became Human Rights activists. BTW is NANS still functioning? |
mirage:Looks like CU is taking the shine off our Federal Universities. The reason is probably the availability of funds for research, no strikes and a system which ensures the total concentration of students ( debateable) on their studies. IMO Nigerian students can do great things if they have the enabling environment to excel. |

adaphik:God leads us through the stormy seas (problems) with or without prophets. My personal experience is that He guides me to the right track once i concentrate my energy on prayers and have ABSOLUTE trust in Him. Sincerely i dont depend on prophets cos they are human like me and you and not infallible. When in doubt, God has has been faithful by pointing out the way to go or forcefully making things happen in accordance with His purpose for my life. Remember He never promised a problem free life, which is actually oftentimes a test of faith, He only promised to be there for us always as a tower of strength, our guide and deliverer. Psalms 23, 46, 71 etc. Praise God ceaselessly for all he has done for you and ask for His guidance without insisting on a predetermined choice. Events will happen that will reveal the best option for you. In short, learn to listen with a plain mind. I pray that things work out well for you. |
You are not sounding like a fool. Your objective makes sense but why North Cyprus? Anyway you can do your masters there and go elsewhere for PHD. TRNC is really not the best place to study. Try other options before you conclude. Best wishes. |
Nashville:More reason why you should have confided in your wife. She may have resisted and you would probably have given less and have less to worry about now. Its a lot of money which you should try and recover as much as possible otherwise you are taken for a mugu for relatives to deal with. BTW why did you agree to host a debtor who has no intention of paying you back? It was a good opportunity to tell/show him that you are broke like making him realise that the items you dont have at home are the ones you were going to buy with the money loaned to him. LOL! I can imagine your wife going to great lengths to please the ingrate who deserved to be ignored. Abeg wise up o! afam4eva:I find it difficult to ask for my money back also so i give what i can afford and never expect it back. Saves me a lot of headache. |
Its wise to seek the face of God on your own since you cant ever know the mind of a prophet. God speaks to us individually if we learn to listen. |
A good spouse is a good friend and lover. Youve known each other for so long, are both so much at home with each other and it seems the other guy was just a side attraction based on the fact that she believed that you would comply with your mums wish. Follow your heart and marry her if you truly love her. Let her know how to work with you to gain your mums acceptance. I believe that a well bred woman will always win a hostile mother in law to her side with love, patience, tolerance, prayers and the mans unflinching support. BTW, Kudos to you for your decency and faithfulness. More blessings! |
North Cyprus is not a friendly environment to live in as i was told by those who schooled there. Cost of living is quite high and jobs are not readily available. They believe Nigerians are very rich while their economy is poor due to isolation so you can imagine how they treat Nigerians. Apart from Eastern Mediterranean University, it seems many of their institutions have no accreditation or international recognition. Do your research well anyway. The country is only recognised by Turkey BTW. Why dont you do your masters here if you cant afford UK or US? |
pro01:Had a similar experience while growing up. A lot of ingratitude initially but i find that most of them are learning their lessons much later in life. Most now appreciate that harbouring and training them was a great sacrifice having seen the problems and economic realities of bringing up kids. More importantly, the blessings derived are wonderful and endless. Good to do our bit (not to the extent of total inconvenience as expressed by poster) and leave the rest to God. @Poster Why not tell him nicely if hes a true friend especially the issue of coming with a girlfriend? If hes just a fair weather friend, any tough but friendly female relative or friend will do the job nicely. |

Seems the Libyan people value their freedom more than material possessions, hence the need to get Ghaddaffi out by all means. What do we value most in Nigeria? |
THINGS LIBYANS WILL REMEMBER GHADAFFI FOR 1. There is no electricity bill in Libya; electricity is free for all its citizens. 2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at zero percent interest by law. 3. Having a home considered a human right in Libya. 4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 dinar (U.S.$50,000) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family. 5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25 percent of Libyans were literate. Today, the figure is 83 percent. 6. Should Libyans want to take up farming career, they would receive farming land, a farming house, equipments, seeds and livestock to kickstart their farms are all for free. 7. If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need, the government funds them to go abroad, for it is not only paid for, but they get a U.S.$2,300/month for accommodation and car allowance. 8. If Libyan buys a car, the government subsidizes 50 percent of the price. 9. The price of petrol in Libya is $0.14 per liter. 10. Libya has no external debt and its reserves amounting to $150 billion are now frozen globally. 11. If a Libyan is unable to get employment after graduation the state would pay the average salary of the profession, as if he or she is employed, until employment is found. 12. A portion of every Libyan oil sale is credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens. 13. A mother who gives birth to a child receive U.S.$5,000. 14. 40 loaves of bread in Libya costs $0.15. 15. 25 percent of Libyans have a university degree. 16. Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Manmade River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country. |
Barka de sallah in advance to our dear muslim brothers and sisters. May you live to see many more. So we can look forward to our share of sallah ram next week? |
I hope and pray along with you that he is truly repentant. From your story it seems he has not gone so far with the lady but you need to be on your guard without putting yourself under tension. No matter what, avoid nagging and show him love as you are currently doing to ensure that you remain No 1 in his consideration any day. Also discuss how he copes with high sex drive when you are unavoidably unavailable. He may not tell you the whole truth but you will be able to form an opinion to guide you. The problem sometimes is that some men are addicted to cheating because they are easily tempted, they feel sexually unsatisfied or just for adventures sake. Strangely they still love their wives but seem capable of living double lives. Most men who love their wives but still cheat learn to become smooth operators over time such that its not so easy for you to find out. |
I once had a colleague who couldnt cope and was always heavily indebted because his wife wasnt working and his pay was low and irregular. When part of his accrued outstanding salary was paid he was advised to invest in his wife to ensure that his family will at least be able to feed during difficult times. His wife trained as a fashion designer and could work at home to save shop costs but he bought grinding machines in addition to ensure that they have daily income from which they could do "ajo" (thrift savings abi?). Anyway from the savings she got a big shop. Today they have a flat in Lagos fully paid for and rented out while they built a bungalow which they live in. The man is currently jobless but the family is coping. As pointed out by Big Man, the empowerment of a woman usually makes a difference in the family economy. Find out what your wife has passion for and can start small then encourage her and assist her financially. It will lighten your burden and add value to your life. |
@Poster Please exhale with your close family and friends preferably. Talk to God and keep praising him for what you have. BTW try to ensure that your daughter has contact and some form of relationship with her dad for balanced development. Thats not to say you are not doing a good job. God bless you both. |
The husband should assure her of his unconditional love. I am assuming the hair wasnt a major attraction before now. BTW most women have their hair thinning out or experience hair loss as they grow older. I know two ladies who have had bald heads cos of hair loss caused by chemical reactions in their younger days. They have always worn wigs and are both happily married. No big deal really, just love and compassion is required to restore her self esteem. |
Two wrongs dont make a right. Aregbe should have handled this in a more matured manner instead of personalizing the matter. He can make his feelings known without being rude. Thats why diplomacy is a blessing under such circumstances. Crass behavior does not encourage decency in the lives of our young ones to whom he should be a role model. The office of the President should not be denigrated though we have a right to disagree and express our grievances. |
