well not for the wrong reasons. many people want to be seen as Dr smart blah blah

I wouldnt like to be a doctor when i know very well the pay is shyte, the facilities for doing my job aint there and people cant even pay me for the job

how can you be a doctor in a country where you have to ask sick people if they have registered, instead of asking them what their problems are?

21stccDr:
this is 21st century dr.

As a public enlightenment, I hope to educate readers on what it takes to be a doctor in nigeria.

A fact states that a small percentage of any population is made of highly brainy individuals. And most of those who belong to this class end up as doctors. Medical Course and Practise is not like Information Technology where people deal with machines and some virtual computer codes. Doctors Deal with LIFE, error is unacceptable so every effort has to go into learning the nitty gritty of human existence, The reason the course is hard and practise is harder.

Take a time out and see one of the TV Medical Series around, "grey's anatomy preferably". You will realise that life as a doctor is more than the seeming prestige that is attached to it.

As a Doctor in our Nigeria I would be faced with the following challenges (I am still in school)
LACK OF FACILITIES
POOR PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATION
INAPPROPRIATE WAGE COMPARED TO SOCIAL STATUS AND SERVICE RENDERED etc.

While I take a time out before I elaborate on these, just keep at the back you mind that Nigeria doctors are realy trying.

cya
if they know all these why do they still go ahead with the 8year programme, is it for the title Dr or for the numerous girls they'll handle and assault?

Politics › Re: Yar‘adua Gets British Govt’s Support by DisGuy(op): 10:47pm On May 18, 2007
I think their(UK) approach to democracy is very different and usually more of a cooperative one than the americans

I think Gordon also has a good understanding of Africa and has taken initiatives as commissioner for africa in the past to help though most of them have not been 100% successful no thanks to lack of support from the cowboy in yankee.

While in agreement on the need for relief of Africa's World Bank debts, Britain and the US differ on the means. Mr Brown and Mr Blair think rich countries should pick up the debt servicing bill, but the Bush administration wants the cost to be taken out of direct aid budgets, with the consequence that recipient states do not receive any more funds.

In another initiative, Mr Brown has proposed selling or revaluing IMF gold bullion, the third largest reserves in the world, to raise cash for multilateral debt relief, a move the US also opposes. At his press conference, Mr Brown said a solution on gold sales was possible.

Politics › Yar‘adua Gets British Govt’s Support by DisGuy(op): 10:11pm On May 18, 2007
The British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, on Thursday, expressed his country‘s readiness to work with the President-elect, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

In a letter to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Blair added that his country would support the continuation of Obasanjo‘s reform programme by Yar‘Adua.

A statement from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mrs. Oluremi Oyo, said Blair was eager to meet with Yar‘Adua immediately he assumed office.

Declaring Britain’s readiness to work with Yar‘Adua, Blair said he was looking forward to ”an early meeting” with Nigeria‘s incoming President ”to begin our discussion on future cooperation.”

He also spelt out the areas the British Government intended to engage the incoming administration.

The British PM said, ”We are keen to work with the new administration on reform and governance, democracy, development and other areas of cooperation which we have developed over the last eight years.”

Blair, who is on his way out of office after two terms as Prime Minister, commended Obasanjo for his achievements in office.
