hamzeiy: educate me...why is pluto no longer considered a planet As you probably know, there are billions of planet in the milky way alone never mind each galaxy. Therefore, scientists like to break things down into many clusters for simplicity. Pluto is no longer regarded as a planet but a dwarf planet due to her small size. For any 'body or mass' to be regarded as a planet it must: 1. Orbit the sun 2. Has enough mass to assume a nearly round shape 3 Has not cleared the neighbourhood around its orbit 4 is not a moon. Pluto failed number 3. |

Something more to keep the discussion going.
Two presumptions reported in most of the articles bother me. First, the planet is probably about two to five times as massive as Earth, and second, if life exists there it would be similar to life on Earth (chemically and operationally). The second one is implied. Life can take many forms; on Earth the forms of and processes within are the products of chance beneficial mutations. On Kepler 452-B mutations will have been different and will have taken different paths, possibly significantly different paths.
As for its mass, the value presumed is a mere guess. If it is but three times as massive on Earth surface gravity will be similar to here.
Here's a question to ponder: when will the sun begin a more energetic phase of its 'life' cycle?

semitunde: I don't know why everyone is looking for all the ingredients of life as we know it on other planets.
Who says black is actually black? Because we named it so? Or that we agree that this will be its name?
Any planet can have any form of "life". Maybe not our type but it will exist, I'm sure of that. There can be other forms of life, human like sef, that can only exist and survive in another type of environment different from what humans can. Made up of amino compounds different from ours; breathing in different gas as available to them; or not even breathing at all!
There's a new theory on what's called ghost particles. Some say it may be made of neutrons. What this means is that, unlike electron in atoms that repel each other, thus making solid object not merge or morph into each other; ghost particles may be made of neutrons. Hence any matter composed of such particles can, say, walk through walls.
My point is, anything is possible. New evidences show that everyday. I won't be surprised if we are variants of another planet's specie, brought here to flourish, with our genome modified to simply suit earth's conditions.
We should not be looking for earth-like planets, we should simply be looking for "life" in all planets. I agree. Really good post. |

Dont you think it possible that life can exist without being carbon based? I personally think that expecting life to be earth like is a serious limitation.
We can't find carbon based life forms in places where it is not conducive but perhaps there is life in some other form? Perhaps we may not even know it when we find it. The bolder part is what people are predicting. We already know keplar is about 2 times the size and weight of the earth which kinda makes it inhabitable for we humans due to denser atmosphere, higher gravitational force, possibly higher oxygen level etc. However, some other forms of aliens might be living in there? Exciting stuff |

jayriginal: 1) What do you think of the possibility of life on that planet
2) What do you think of the possibility of life on other planets
3) Who's Jules? (out of curiosity). 1. We just don't have enough vital information apart from its orbit, size and location in the milky way. 2. "Entirely possible" none are inhabited?! But Hmm, in reality, that could be as unlikely as rolling an unloaded pair dice and having it come up sixes, one billion times in a row! But the number is contingent upon what fraction of such worlds give rise to life... If the conditions match the Earth's, what are the odds that life arises or rarely arises? Yet, even if it is rare; let's say it only happens once in a million worlds... Given the billions of planets, the odds are quite good, there are many inhabited worlds! After all, a billion is a thousand million! Plus, if it only happens once every million years, given the billions of years those planets are old--and that there are billions of them--the galaxy must be teeming with life! I hope . 3 Jules bianchi was a talented formula one driver who died last week. |

Besides humans will never reach it, with the level of our current technology that is, if ever humans will get there, I doubt very much any of us will be alive to witness it. It's almost technologically impossible. Not only do you have to travel at a speed of light you also need to compress the fabric of space to get their within liveable years. |

bukster: People want what they can't have. Having big lips, big ass and dark skin is rare for white people which is why so many get surgery to make their lips and ass bigger and tan themselves even when it causes skin cancer. In Nigeria most people have flatter noses and bigger lips so people without those features are rare which is why those features are considered a sign of beauty. Just because someone wants a pointier nose doesn't mean they're trying to be like a white person. There are plenty of black people especially in East Africa with pointy noses. Why is is that when white people want stereotypical black features we do not accuse them of trying to look black but when the case is in reverse, we say that black people are trying to look white? Seriously, you reek of insecurity and thus, have subsequently bore me . Go and check white people's standard of beauty and come back with a more reasonable arguments. This argument has been worned out. |

Politics › Re: Morocco Received Africa's First High Speed Train by Dollyak(f): 2:40am On Jul 24, 2015 |
Nigerians, can you see the contract was billed at $400million for 320km? The kano-lagos rail was $8.3billion for a very slow train. Do the maths. This is the reason why Nigeria needs to privatise most of this project because the cost of some of this project are astronomical and would eventually drive Nigeria into bankruptcy. |

akpanakwaibom: @Aresa why are you so so bothered about akwa ibom state, you neither from here neither do i do business who told you the stadium is not been used apart national teams that have played, the stadium is now the home ground of Akwa united ,we never say we are there developmenetally but we are on the right track as a state and a people I think we should all learn to view every criticism objectively. To be honest, for a state with a higher budget and significantly less population than Lagos, you would expect a lot more project than what we are currently seeing on this thread. Akwa ibom's population is similar to Anambra state yet Anambra seems to be punching above her weight in developmental projects, despite having a budget 3 times less than that of Akwa ibom. Perhaps deceptively, but it appears many states are getting more out of their budget than Akwa ibom. To whom more is given more is expected, so you guys should have higher expectations. |
