Well, perhaps I might have been too intrusive into Nigerdeltan affairs and much of a prophet of doom. Well this is because of 2 things. I am from the northern minorities part of Nigeria, and I spent most of my life and upbringing in the Southern minorities area. In addition to that, I have been a northern minorities activist for the last 10 years. If not for this covid pandemic, I was supposed to be having a meeting I organized for the youth leaders of some of the largest minority groups in the north/middlebelt.
So, I am not just one who comes to rant unnecessarily online and have no relationship whatsoever with my online agitations in real life.
I don't think any of you have been involved in grassroot mobilization or the study of minorities as I have been. I don't mean to Bragg.
You guys should not just be online commentators who come out to defend Nigerdelta on nairaland without a concrete firsthand relationship of the lives, mentalities and relationships of minority groups, especially as pertain to seccession or nation building.
I don't know how well you guys have studied the Breakup of Yugoslavia? Pls if any of you have not done that, I strongly advice you do so.... Likewise the partition of India, breakup war of Bangladesh and subsequent seccesionist agitations of Balochistan, Sikhs & Tamils/Dravidians.
See, if you guys really love your Nigerdelta identity as you claim and you are not just acting as spoilers. I suggest that you guys begin real physical ground work on the feasibility of a Nigerdeltan union before it is too late. Nigeria is sitting on a ticking time bomb and when the explosion takes places, those who are not well prepared will be left gnashing their teeth. I have seen this and that is why people like me and others have taken up the task of enlightening my own people in this regard.
I am currently writing a voluminous book which will help my own people (northern minorities) understand ourselves, our territory, unity and everything else if peradventure division comes knocking. These are a few among many other things we are doing in our own capacity at the moment.
Now, let me give you guys these 2 examples from the breakup of Yugoslavia and India. The demography of these 2 countries may be different from what we have in Nigeria, however at least they can give a picture.
1) THOSE WHO DON'T PREPARE AHEAD GNASH THEIR TEETH.
Slovenes & Croatians begun the seccesionist agitations to counter Serbian aggression & expansion. Meanwhile, Bosnians & Kosovoans were watching, perhaps acting as SPOILERS at that time, who knows.
When Croats & Slovenes successfully left, repelled and cleansed Serbians from their territories and Serbians knew it was lost in both territories, they had no other option but to descend on the weaker and silent Bosnians & Kosovoans in a desperate attempt to gain more territory. Till today, the world is still lamenting of Serbian atrocities and genocide against Bosnians & Kosovoans (ethnic Albanians).
This is what happens to people who are not ready when the shiit hits the fan! If not for US-NATO timely intervention, Bosnians & Kosovan Albanians would have been completely destroyed by Serbs.
Had it been Bosnians & Kosovans were well prepared and actively behind Croats & Slovenes when the whole katakata begun, It would have been impossible for the Serbs to decimate them in the manner they did. So you people should ask yourselves where the Nigerdeltans will fall in all of these.
2) DIVISION BRINGS MORE AND MORE DIVISIONS AS NATIONALISM IS A VIRUS
After the partition of India along religious lines, Bengalis (East Pakistan) clearly saw that they could not cope with West Pakistan and Bengalis lost 3 million people who were massacred by Pakistani soldiers. Perhaps, half of Begali population would have been killed if not for India's intervention and today we have Bangladesh. Now Balochistan has started their own agitation to breakaway from Pakistan. All of these are inspite of the fact that everyone has his or her own region in Pakistan where they control their own rescources! So why are people still wanting out? Ethnic differences and ethnic nationalism. Simple! Sikhs & Tamils have had their own seccesionist movements from India too.
Yugoslavians are one people who speak the same language, but religion was their only problem, yet they divided into 7 countries and still counting till today ... Why not just 3? Since Orthodoxy, Catholicism & Islam were the only 3 religious divisions in Yugoslavia. That is the virus of nationalism! Montenegro still broke out of Serbia later on. Pakistanis had one religion but ethnicity still divided the country. .
Imagine if countries that had strong uniting factors such as religion, ethnicity & language were dividing themselves, how much more a so called Nigerdeltan republic only united by Anti-Igbo sentiments and nothing else?
Some of you also make the mistake to think that the division of a country where strong nationalist sentiments come into play is the same as living in a one Nigeria peacefully under the might of the federal govt? I laugh at such naivety
There must be a clear partition in places where ethnic nationalities meet each other! A place like Warri cannot coexist with the 3 different tribes intertwined as a homeland, whether in a separate country or in the same new country with autonomous ethnic regions! It is impossible. But if you guys think it is possible, then I say Goodluck.
Ijaw autonomous region or Itsekiri autonomous region must have their own well defined maritime & land boundaries defining their own rescources! Cos this time around it will no longer be Delta state maritime boundaries or rescources controlled by the FG. It is every ethnic group to his rescources and everyone will want to fight to get the largesse of the auction when the auction period begins. A look at South Sudan should give a clue.
There must be a form of partition. Same with rural/urban Benin where Ijaw & Benin communities intertwine. Same with Ikwerre & Ijaws in PH.
For me, I have chosen not be the overtly optimistic and naive 'all is well' person cos history will always repeat itself, time and time over again.
For my own people for example, we have 3 problematic areas where there must be a partition!
1) The Hausa fulani Kanuri land boundary
This boundary will be very bloody and we have to be prepared for a war and religious partition in this boundary, cos the Hausa fulanis are unreasonable human beings who only speak the language of VIOLENCE, they don't believe in dialogue. The religious partition has already begun gradually and it will blow up in the next few years. This I can promise. Infact this could be the precipitate to the division of Nigeria.
2) The Tiv- Taraba/Nasarawa boundary.
Tivs & Jukuns (Taraba)/Alagos (Nasarawa) are all middlebelt people, but unlike you naive souls, I know that we cannot live together as a people cos our values are not the same, regardless of us being Christians. Tivs are Bantu people and expansionists by nature. The conflicts and bad blood in that area is endless. There must be a partion!
And we will even have this partition before the breakup of Nigeria. By next year or at least 2022, all the Tiv & Taraba elders, traditional leaders must sit down and this issue settled forever. All the Tivs in Taraba would have to relocate to Benue and all the Jukuns in Benue would have to relocate to Taraba, leaving their ancestral homelands. Since Taraba has more lands and Tivs more number in Taraba, we may have to cede some more lands to the Tivs for peace to reign.
3) The Egbira-Bassa-Gbayi frontier
Bassas & Gbagyis have same mentality and orientation and can easily live together, but Egburas are another people entirely.
There are up to 4 LGAs in Kogi, Nasarawa & FCT where these 3 tribes intertwine. There have been conflicts and the bad blood is strong. Without a clear-cut partition, the war in this area will not be a joke. All Bassas & Gbagyis must peacefully leave their ancestral lands in Koton Karfe LGA and Abaji town, while Egburas must leave Abaji rural, Toto & Bassa LGAs. Cos without this partition, there is no way in hell, you can define Egbura, Bassa & Gbagyi homelands distinctly without encroaching into the territories of the other ethnic groups.
So, those of you including me as a prophet of doom for your 'Utopia Nigerdeltan republic of harmony' should know that I am doing this just because I have a more practical understanding of these issues and not because I am pro-Igbo or just want you people to join BIAFRA.
I personally do not support minorities being in a BIAFRA if it will be a unitary nation! If there must be a BIAFRA with minorities involved, it will be a very loosed Confederacy like the UK or even the EU model and the minorities I picture in such a union are probably not even you Southern minorities but my own people (northern minorities).
Cos I don't think any reasonable united group of people should dream of forming a country with you Nigerdeltans, cos you people are a stacked pack of cards waiting to crumble after the only glue (anti-Igbo) that holds you together no longer exists.
I will never act as a spoiler to the Biafran cause because I know that if Nigeria must divide, the rest of us must work together to realize this, after which everybody will find his way. And those who are not prepared will be likely visited by the atrocities of Bosnia & Kosovo.
So, just as an Igbo person here suggested, you Nigerdeltans should take your Nigerdeltan republic agitation to the forefront and let it be known, so that the Igbos/Ipobs can take you people as an equal partner in the struggle and no longer subsume you.
Cos by law standards, Igbos are not wrong in including you guys into Biafran agitation, especially the Ijaws & Akwa-cross people! You people were a part of the old Eastern region which the world and UN recognize as the historical territory/agitation of BIAFRA.
If the UN & Nigeria must bring a referendum to BIAFRA, it must be on the grounds of the territories of the defunct Biafran state. Delta/Edo people are safer cos they were not officially part of the old Eastern region internationally recognized as BIAFRA.
@Ix3as I always emphasize the fact that I am not Igbo, cos nairaland has a narrowed lense of looking and labelling everything in the Yoruba/Igbo dichotomy. Everyone who talks in a certain way is either Afonja or Igbo and you know this.
I joined nairaland around 2012 when Tribalism & seccession vibes were at an all time low and people did not feel the need to create fake monikers for impersonation. I never for once since that time claimed to be Igbo, but a middlebelter, so I wonder why your brain should think that I suddenly turned Igbo overnight. Go and check the threads I created since 2012 and see what they are about. I think you should correct the impression that the minorities are united by hate. A thread was created recently and you just need to see how the minorities were rubbished, so many false claims, one might even think these people are nothing, but in the real sense, the minorities measure up to the big two in southern Nigeria in every endeavors, just some days back I was looking at a list of Nigerians who graduated with Masters in a US university (Georgia State University Spring 2018 Graduation- Master's degrees), the minorities were basically competing with the major groups, even in Nigeria, they are still doing well for themselves, so when some certain people come online everyday to rubbish them even when it's unnecessary, how do you expect people from these groups to react? form brotherhood? accept they are nothing? or ignore like nothing happened? I personally still believe in the Nigerian project, at least to some extent, I believe if things are well restructured, corruption brought to the minimum, then we'd take our rightful place as a nation, we only talk about a possible reunion with our fellow minorities should things go south (which isn't happening anytime soon), so you shouldn't expect same level of agitation in every region, we are totally a different people and you won't see me forcing my views on others, I just they my lane. Glad you made mention of Yugoslavia, can you compare the agitation Croatians put up to the one we are currently experiencing in Nigeria? was anyone even coerced to form a group? Talking about Warri, will itsekiri lay claim of Uvwie? don't we have our defined boundaries? Don't we have Ijaw communities surrounded by Ilaje in Ondo? would Ijaw fight Ilaje because they are in the midst of them? won't they look for ways to iron out their differences? And No, no minority is acting as a spoiler, instead everyone is trying to protect his own, you can no drag someone into something serious as forming a country without consulting and when they react you say they are spoilers. |

Nowenuse: Edoid groups worked together with Itsekiris & Aniomas to break Yoruba domination of old Western region. How united and loving have you guys been to each other post Bendel & Delta/Edo state? That is the question.
Make no mistake, I would love to see a united Edoid nation or Nigerdeltan nation, however, growing up with you people, I have understood the way you people reason and this would be very difficult. Nigerians are tribalistic, even amongst an ethnic group we display some level of tribalism, this shouldn't be used as a yardstick, in eastern and western Nigeria, they also display some level of tribalism even amongst their people, wouldn't want to dive into that so as not to derail, my point is, what ever you witnessed in Edo or Delta isn't limited to these states. Actually Binis will be the problem of an Edoid nation because they will insist that the capital must be in Benin which you Urhobos & Esans will fiercely reject. Benin people have this strong sense of superiority over other Bendelites owing to their ancient Benin empire.
So let me ask you, if there is an Edo nation today, where will the capital be? And don't tell me Benin cos you and I know that Esans & Urhobos will never allow Benin control them. Edoid groups never felt anything when Benin was the capital during the Midwest region, Bini having superiority complex is nothing compared to what the majority tribes have displayed over the years, a Bini man can never flex his muscle on anyone, ths Urhobos can easily put them in their rightful position, so why should I be worried about how they see themselves? I personally have called them out about their actions in the past especially how they handled the gelegele issue with the Ijaws, so make no mistake, I do not asslick any one. Also, if Edoids have a country, what will be the fate of Itsekiris & Ijaws? Considering how intertwined Itsekiri & Ijaw communities are with Urhobo & Benin communities. How will Warri be divided?
Infact, nothing will stop you SS minorities from going to war with each other if Nigeria divides. The itsekiris won't be in a position where they will be disadvantaged, during the mid-west agitation, the itsekiris were the last to join, infact some Itsekiri groups were against the creation of Midwest because they were scared of being dominated and were actually being favored by the Yoruba led Action group government, they only agreed when they realized it will be impossible for a group to dominate them, even at that Itsekiri witnessed the least votes compared to others. The Ijaws wouldn't want to leave their kits and kins behind, so we might be having a working solution to solve that issue. |

Nowenuse: I lived much of my life in the SS and take it from me. Isokos will never join Urhobos to form one country together. They love their autonomy.
Edos can never form one country together. Esans & Binis will never agree. Even Afemai people cannot be a country of their own cos Owan & Akoko-Edo people resent Etsako. At most, Esan & Afemai can form a country.
Annang & Efik people will never join Ibibios to form a country. They resent Ibibios. Oros on the other hand love Efiks. They and Efiks can form one country.
Ikas & Ndokwas will gladly form one country with each other and even with the Enuanis. Anioma people love themselves, inspite of their pro-Igbo and Anti-Igbo differences.
Northern/Central Cross River people like each other. They can gladly form a country with each other and no one will be afraid of domination cos they are all minority tribes there and no one tribe has a majority status.
The SS will be like 8 countries. When dishing out misinformation, don't forget to also tell your readers that no Isoko man will reject a union when other Edoid groups are involved, same with Esan and others. In the past, all Edoid groups have worked together to achieve a common goal, your talk about disunity is not only false but misleading. In Nigeria, the Edoid groups were the only minorities to have ever come together to push for a referendum, a fight everyone fought, the politicians, the chiefs, the kings, the village heads, the women, the men, everyone fought for a common goal, no one was forced or coerced, everyone had a sense of belonging If tomorrow these same people decide to champion a new cause, they'd do wonders and if they also decide to reach out to neighbouring minorities they'd also do wonders, Stop projecting disunity where it never exists, stop misinforming people about others. |

In food production, we produce most of the things we consume. we only import yam, beans and some few other things, I just laugh when the major ethnic groups in Southern Nigeria try as much as possible to downgrade the minorities, as it stands today, the minorities are the only one that can stand without any region, reason you never see them attaching to anybody. Iran is a kid trying to pretend as an adult. China needs its energy and cant trust American allies for Oil supply, That is why it is protecting Iran.
From Fake Wooden replicas of Naval Ships, Tanks made of Styrofoam, and did you forgot Morphed image of Fighter airplane?. Iran has done in past thus it does not have credibility. Its not even able to make Ventilator for current crisis, while all the name you mentioned US, Japan, India, Germany, China makes their own ventilators.
Very Important Point to Remember any country that Does not posses "ThermoNukes + ICBMs+ Own Satellite Navigation System + Nuclear Submarine(Boomers) + SLBMs" is on mercy of USA and Its allies, Iran has none and it can be send to Stone age. That is why you will not see any US(NATO) attack on Russia, India and China. This is how world works. Iran actually made ventilators and other COVID-19 kits. I know you'd mention Saddam, Saddam's case was different, Saddam wasn't a good general, he couldn't even defeat Iran despite him having all materials needed to win and Iran being disadvantaged and broke. His people got tired of his adventurism that when America invaded, his generals went home leaving some loyalist to do some shooting. Iran is a different ball game, if any country makes any attempt to attack, Iranians will quickly rally behind the mullahs and you know what that means, you have 80million peeps to contend with. Allies/Base/interests of the invader in the region will be bombed to the ground, Iran has showed us how precise her missiles are. Sending foot on ground will be an impossible task, Iran has a very rough terrain, Saddam barely moved pass the border town when he was pushed back. limited airstrikes do not win wars, we have seen that in the current battle in Yemen, the 2006 Lebanon war and other battles. China do not protect Iran, Iran's strategies is the reason no nation dares attack the republic, with different militias spread across the region, any attempt to strike will see the middle east boiling and you know what that means to the world economy. |

Iran doesn't need Cryogenic heat exchanger for anything, so if it's only being produced by US, Germany, Japan, France, India and China, it doesn't change the fact that they don't import that, they use the locally manufactured ones, some years back Iranian researchers even produced a type of nanofluids that highly improve efficiency of the locally made heat exchangers used in oil refineries and other large chemical processes. Iranians are very educated, one of the highest literacy level in the region. Situations are dire due to crippling sanctions, this we all know, but Iranians enjoy basic amenities than most citizens in African countries including Nigeria. Who is talking about corruption? We all know the mullahs aren't saints, but so far they have done so much despite being disadvantaged. You keep mentioning High-end tech equipments, why not tell us the equipments they import so we can verify, If I tell you Iran's jets are flying coffin, you can easy verify that, not making some vague claims. Attached is a random picture of traffic in Tehran, if you zoom you'd see some cars I sent earlier.

rationalhuman: Not its not fair to criticize Nigeria for that. Its not only Nigeria that is dependent on India to supply Medicines and Healthcare equipment, Many countries do, Outside the USA, India has the Highest number Pharmaceutical plants approved by USFDA Quality standards. You have given example of Iran, Except some basic Medicines and Simple Vaccines, Most of the Medicines Healthcare supply in Iran comes from India or France.
Yes Cars they produce themselves with help of Peugeot (Iran Khodro, Very basic cars, like late 80s design, I hated to see them running at 100KMPH), rest all the High end Engineering equipment comes from France, India, China. Yes many countries depend on others for drugs supply, but no reasonable nation imports 80% of the drugs she needs, Iran barely imports 30% of the drugs she consumes, the remaining 70% are sourced domestically, Iran is also leading in biotech drugs. Drugs Iran find difficult to produce are mostly cancer drugs, what this means is that if everyone shuts its doors against the republic, they'd survive, can Nigeria survive without others? Most high end engineering equipments are produced locally, maybe you are confusing Iran with Saudi Arabia. Presently, some of their cars are far from basic, since 2010, Iran auto mobile industry has improved on their designs, capacity etc, below are some cars recently produced In Iran. We have no single reason to be where we are today, if a country under 4-decades of crippling sanctions, being ruled by Islamic headliners can make significant progress in science and technology, Nigeria has no single excuse to give, our leaders failed us, no need sugar coating the truth.

Eborty: Iran & nigeria re much d same in dis light, both countries has oil correct, bt here in nigeria d revenue 4rm oil is being looted nd kidnapped, leaving us d populace 2 strive 4 ourselves in d mist of increased tax, bad infrastructures, failed industries nd worst still total lock down(coronavirus). Iran govt don't make profit at all due to sanctions dat prevents them 4rm getting rich 4rm international tradings lyk oil busi, bcus revenues realized wil be used 4 enriching nuclear programs nd sponsoring of lebaness terror group. We nigerians are always complaining about our govt ignorance of us. Yet the little revenue made by iran is used for secondary goal, which some individuals here still glorifies as an achievement, whilst it's populace r suffering in two folds compare to ours. Many iranians dat can afford visas had left d state, leaving the rooted 2 fend 4 themselves. We nigerians re complaining of corruption everyday, but iranians re complaining of sanctions which the leaders can easily address. Chief, Iran is light years ahead of us, the average Iranian has a better standard of living than the average Nigerian, in Iran they enjoy 24/7 electricity (they export to neighboring countries), they produce every thing they consume, cars, electronics, steel, everything is being produced locally, meanwhile in Nigeria we import basically everything, even petroleum, what a shame. Iran's literacy level is one of the highest in the region, far higher than that of any west African country. their health system is 20x better than ours, most medical equipments and drugs are sourced locally, they only import certain drugs they find difficult to produce, meanwhile in Nigeria, we depend on India for drugs and medical supplies. Our leaders are visionless, if they had invested in our human resources like Iran did, we'd have taken our rightful place in the world. |

Pr0cter: The US like making a hell of noise.
Unlike the US, the Chinese work tediously for solution.
If a working vaccine for covid-19 emerges, I believe it should come from China and not the western countries.
Long live the People's Republic of China You are praying for a republic that treats your fellow brothers like slave, wonderful. . |

Politics › Re: The Beauty Of Lagos During The Corona Virus lockdown -photo by Efewestern: 8:30am On Apr 15, 2020 |
Softapplez: Seeing Lagos like this makes me so sad on how Warri in Delta State has fallen.
If not for the war between urhobos, itsekiri and ijaws in Delta State.
Warri precisely will now be the Lagos island of delta state.
The numbers of companies that left Warri to Lagos and porthacourt and Abuja during the war were more than 100.
So many national and international company left Warri and now Delta State and Warri in particular has lost her glory.
The Warri i knew when i was still a kid was 1000 times more beautiful and more modern than the Warri of today.
I'm sure by now if not for the war, Delta State and Warri in particular would have released the population burden from Lagos.
This is what greed, ignorance, bad government and uneducated citizens can do to a city.
It's even funny looking at the fact that the numbers of white people and Asians living in Warri before the war were even more than any state in Nigeria.
When i was a kid, seeing white men and women in Warri was very normal, we see them on traffic, in churches, in the mall, even some came to watch us play Football every afternoon.
I think we as deltans have to go back to the drawing board.
As for the federal government, i think restructuring is what Nigeria needs now.
Let each state start operating like mini country Just like the US of A and in not more than 5 years time, the population of Lagos will reduce by nearly half.
Because by the time each states start developing and building of skyscrapers, investors will come in.
Lots of people don't actually know they skyscrapers are easy to build.
Let the security system be re branded and let us have our state Police and local Police.
By the order of the Peaky blinders. it's a pity bro, the only thing surviving Warri currently are those off-shore oil companies employing our youths, glad we still dominate that sector, without that, warri would have fallen completely. Stupidity foolishness and hatred brought this to us, at the end, we are the ones suffering, while our mates in PH and Lag are buzzing. @Bolded, exactly, there's need for us to restructure. |

Job2004: America sale weapons and Ammunitions to governments of countries which is legally done and most at times to public knowledge, but in the case of Russia, they sponsor government oppositions the world over, they are suppliers of deadly weapons to arm terrorists the world over America sells weapons to government and opposition, like in the case of Syria, Libya, Iraq etc. there's no good or bad guys, every nation does good and bad things. |

noisy45: But Americans doesn't sell there home made weapons they sell Russian weapons there Arms industry fabricates US sells their homemade weapons, but they are very very expensive, reason most nations opt for cheaper Russian models. Saudi Arabia currently has some high tech weapons they bought from US. @bolded not entirely true. |
