CultureRe: Itsekiri Names And Their Meaning by Efewestern(op):
jadelord:
I met a guy once in school, whose name is Jolomi and I naturally thought he was Itsekiri as that is my name. But got a rude awakening to learn, from him, that he was not Itsekiri but Ilaje. We talked some more and found that we had about 80% similarity dialectically.

And this got me questioning the part of history that says we are from the Bini kingdom. We don't dress alike, our language is at different opposites. And so questioning became inevitable. More so, I was born and brought plus in Lagos and have a very apt grasp of the Yoruba language to know that Itsekiri and Yoruba are similar and that chance meeting with that Ilaje guy laid it to rest that Itsekiri must have a strong link with the Yorubas.

Then I began to ask and NAIS (national association of Itsekiri students) began to reason along this line, as only the royal family's link is strongest to the Edo royal throne, as observed by their dressing and titles and royal knives (eben).. giving credence to history but ending at the palace.

Therefore, I personally have come to the conclusion that the Itsekiris are migrant fishermen who left the coastal Ilaje settlement to settle in the we are now, mixed cultures and aligned principle with our neighbours and flourished as a people.

I am Jolomi, I have a sister named Gbubemi and these are also Ilaje names.

There is a town called Igbokoda in Ondo (Ilaje town) my mom is from Gbokoda in Warri North.

So I submit that the proud people of Itsekiri are from the Ilaje tribe.
Your experience isn't strange, It's a well known fact that Ilaje and Itsekiri share 80-90% language similarities. In fact an Ilaje man is more connected and related to Itsekiri than he is to someone from Osun or Lagos.

One fact you should note is that, the farther you go, the less you are related to them (Yoruba), for example Itsekiri might easily understand Ilaje but find it difficult to understand central Yoruba.

And not all itsekiri villages migrated from Ilaje, some like Omadino migrated from Ijebu.

Car TalkRe: How Reliable Are Innoson Buses For Transport Business? by Efewestern: 5:16am On Mar 28, 2019
rentAcock:
Besides the Toyota coaster and Mercedes Benz Tourismo RHD, Innoson buses are the 3rd most fuel efficient non hybrid buses in the market. As unbelievable as it may seem, Innoson buses fuel consumption is 2.1L/100KM, meaning for every 2.1L, their buses run for 100KM. They are so fuel efficient, they rival hybrid and electric buses. Innoson motors are also built with high quality titanium, very light weight yet 1000 times stronger and more durable than aluminium. They are aerodynamically designed to maximize speed and reduce fuel consumption. They are 3 times cheaper than their European or Japanese rivals. Best of all, they are made in Nigeria and you should feel very proud to support the Nigerian economy because every Innoson bus you buy puts food on the tables of so many families. I wish you success in your endeavors. We should all be proud of our fellow Nigerians, regardless of tribe or religion, I will forever remain proud of Rashidi Yekini being the first Nigerian to score in the 1994 world cup where we defeated Bulgaria 3-0.
Nigerians can make our automobile industry work again, if we all can just remove sentiments and go for Innoson, before you know it others will invest on that biz, thereby creating more jobs.

look at how we revived our Music and Movie industries. Innoson should also try to do some proper advert, the guy is just slacking.

I am still not clear how will an exam body fix exam for Jumat service period and still not clear why should Muslim must go to court before their daughters are allowed to use Hijab in schools when we are in Democratic settings (a non-hypocrite mind will ask the same question too). The most annoying thing is the nonobjective contributions of some Nairalander here (many who have travelled to a developed country with strictly less Muslim population).

Please let's tolerate each other. This and many other problem is why Nigeria is not moving forward. May God assist us all

MURIC is a terrorist organization, their level of bigotry is alarming, I wonder why the government hasn't done something about these mad people.

All they preach about is hate and hate, never will you see this MURIC advising Muslims to love non Muslims, or preaching love, all they are known for is bigotry, hate, confusion etc

Interesting results...just like the elections.

The 3 Kardashians alone (Kano, Kaduna, Katsina) generated N38 Billion...
...while the entire 5 South East states could only generate N36billion cheesy

In fact the entire North West (so called poverty headquarters wink) generated more wealth internally than the chestbeating region by N12 billion (NW - N48b vs SE - N36b). This is internally generated o, not government oil money allocations.
Did someone say PARASITE?

I'm particularly impressed with Sokoto's over 100% improvement shocked from about N2billion 3 years ago when it was dragging with Ebonyi to over N5 billion in 2019; Tambuwal's focus on SME's is surely yielding fruits. Sokoto is already exporting Kilishi and set to start shipping Neem oil to Europe this year. Now same Ebonyi is struggling to catch Zamfara (statistically the poorest state when population is factored) who beat Ebonyi in internal wealth generation for the 1st time shocked shocked.

Very insightful thread. Wind don blow fowl xxxxx grin
Regardless, you still compare the standard of living in NW&NE to SE, SE isn't doing much to generate revenue, I have been to Aba and I can tell you that the state governor isn't doing much to boost her internal revenue.

Instead of giving yourself false hope, I think you and your people need to work on NW and NE.

Urhobo is an Edoid language. Both Bini and Urhobo evolved from the same proto-Edoid language. There are similarities in the way we speak and write our languages. Personally, when someone is speaking Bini, I always feel drawn to it, as if I can understand it at some level even when I can't hear a word of it.
If you actually pay attention you might be able to pick one or two from a Bini speaker, but I don't hear shii when those from Esan speak.

Playing the Tribal card again, Ibori knows he is becoming irrelevant in Urhobo land, he couldn't even deliver his LGA well for Oboro. Is it today that he (Ogboru) starts campaigning?, didn't Ogboru campaigned against Ibori (Election we all know how some people rigged), Didn't he campaigned against Uduaghan?, so why is it now that he is campaigning against Okowa that you want to bring this nonsense tribal card.

Ogboru is not even 100% urhobo, he is Half urhobo/Half Anioma, so what's this man talking about? His major fan base is in Abraka/Ukwuani/Ndowkwa.

You care about Equity and you guys rigged last presidential elections for Manager, even when it was obvious that it was time for the itsekiri's the produce the next Senator.

ANYBODY THAT THINK, AFTER BUHARI NEXT 4 YEARS, IT WILL BE ENOUGH FOR THE NORTH IS DELUSIONAL.
How can a region head the 3 arms of government? shocking I must say. The seat should go to either SE or SS, my preferred candidate is Omo-agege, but for fairness and equity I would want the next senate president to come from SE.
PoliticsRe: Growing Atheism In Northern Nigeria: by Efewestern: 10:00pm On Mar 04, 2019

There are probably not more than 1000 atheists in the whole North. Same with Southern Nigeria. I've been an atheist for a long time since I was a 2nd year student in UNN and till today, several years later, I've only met one atheist in real life. Nigerians are probably the most indoctrinated people in the world with religion. Majority of Nigerians don't even know something like an "atheist" exists and can't conceptualize the possibility of such an existence. It's always entertaining when I tell people that wish to preach to me that I'm not a "believer" and they stare at me like I'm an alien or something.
We have many atheist in Southern Nigeria, people are just scared of revealing their true identity, some don't want to hurt existing relationships they have with their friends, family and society.

Keep on deceiving yourselves. So the north is 1 region while the south can be micro zoned to SW SE SW.

NW produced the president
SW produced the VP
NE will produced the Senate president
SS can produce the speaker if at all they will

So northeast should be sideline according to your biased thinking. They contributed more than all the 3 southern region. Even the last Senate presidency belongs to them before it was hijacked by Saraki.

Ahmed Lawal is the next Senate president. If not for you guys selfishnes you want to reap were you never sow. You have this sense of entitlement. [/s]

The Senate presidency will go to the northeast and not south south. Ahmed Lawan is the next Senate president. Maybe deputy senate president or Senate leader will go to south south or southeast.
The north just produced the last senate president, the north also has the presidency, why are you guys this power drunk? una no they tire ni?

The seat should go to either SS or SE, north east should wait till 2023 when we have a Southern president.

kinda weird, but I noticed most big guns from SW are rooting for Omo-agege, don't know why, or is it because his name sounds yoruboid? the seat should be zoned to SE.

Omo-agege can be a senate leader.

Buhari wasn't that sellable in Delta State, that's the bitter truth, so many locals wanted him out because of the herdsmen crisis, Ethiope east is one of the LGA in Delta state that was most affected by that, and Buhari silence brought so many dislike to his personality. Ogboru came in and was able to convince so many people to vote for Buhari. He won Ethiope east for APC with a huge margin, he also gave APC some votes in Ukwani and Ndwokwa.

Even on Ogboru's facebook page, so many people do post comment like "Ogboru na u we go vote for Governor, But Atiku go be our president".

This will be his last election in the state, after now, I believe he will be more like a Godfather, that's if he looses. He tried for APC in the last presidential election, his influence alone brought thousands of votes to APC.

The PDP has a better chance, It's 60:40 in favor of the PDP, that's from a realistic point of view, but if APC can minimize the level of rigging in those riverine communities, then the battle will be a tough one.

The riverine areas hold the ace, who is the Ijaw man in APC that can do the yeo man's job? Okowa as an incumbent still has the advantage.
Exactly, Delta Central can easily strike Delta north and balance some votes from Delta south, but with the thousands of votes flying from that axis, it will be difficult for APC to defeat Okowa.

Lol, dude, last election I was like what!, manager pulled 220k votes, from where kwa?, or since when do fishes start voting grin. In a free and fair election, Uduaghan would have won, because votes from the isokos and itsekiri's were in his favor, only for us to start seeing some results from the creek.

LKO:
Ogboru would fail woefully. In Feb 23 election, APC struggled to win only one house of reps seat out of ten. PDP won the other nine. Even the APC guy that won the house of rep seat, didn't win because of APC, he won because he is a pastor and most Christians decided to vote him, I m talking of Rev Francis Ejiro Waive. APC also managed to win one senatorial seat in Delta Central, Agege struggled to defeat Oboro of PDP with about twelve thousand votes. It is even believed that Agege votes from Ughelli North and his ward in Orugun were inflated.

Okowa would defeat Ogboru. Ogboru would struggle to win in Delta Central but that would not take him far. Make no mistake, the likes of Victor Ochei, Cairo Ojuogboh, I be Kachikwu would support Okowa behind doors, it is believed that Delta North must have their eight years.

Before 2023, when it is the turn of Delta Central to produce the next governor, Agege and Ogboru would part ways as Agege would come for him fiercely to pick the governorship ticket of APC and that would be the end of Ogboru, the man is broke,
Oshare suffery, Omo-agege defeated Oboro hands down, even with the massive rigging in Uvwie and Okpe, she still lost, all LGA chairmen in Delta central were busy influencing votes for her, yet she was defeated. what a shame.

Now, you just said Ogboru will struggle to win Delta central, like are you kidding me? lol, Ogboru will clear Delta central and Have a nice cut from Delta north, his only issue is Delta south, the level of rigging going on there is alarming, "even Satan they learn for there".
