Politics › Re: How Presidential Poll Was Rigged -acn : Warns Against Repeat by ektbear: 8:44am On Apr 22, 2011
All Yoruba hands need to be on deck. We cannot afford any more slacking.

@Gbawe: I hope your ACN boys are not fvcking around and playing games here. We cannot afford any wuru wuru. For all we know, in four years time naija might be no more (especially if this trend of large-scale, almost comical rigging continues.) I hope we won't be caught unprepared in that eventuality. Not only is good governance needed over the next 4 years, we need excellent governance.

@Onlytruth: I see, you addressed the issue of location of the towns somewhat in the 4th post in this thread (which I guess I must have skimmed over or skipped.)

Regarding resource extraction, as I've said, I don't think that is the only way to build a viable town. Anyway, since you've said you intend to keep them nearby existing population centers and economic centers, I'm content. . . that was the only design flaw I saw.

@birdman: Many of those states are already poorer than Chad and Niger, according to Sanusi. And this is with the existing federal allocations undecided It would be pretty tough for 'em if the country splits and they don't some sort of short-term financial lifeline.
Politics › Re: Who Would You Vote For In A Rerun? by ektbear: 8:18am On Apr 22, 2011
Would be like asking me if I want to die by electrocution or by lethal injection.

A known election rigger in GEJ, or a stubborn, unstrategic guy like Buhari who might also have knowingly benefited from election malpractices?

Two very flaws candidates, both very unappealing to me.

Really a tough decision.

You might be right though, maybe I don't have a good case  cheesy

Tuesday's election will be a landslide for Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
Hehe. We shall see, you might be surprised. Ohakim helped his oga, presumably his oga will help him out too.
Politics › Re: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by ektbear: 6:44am On Apr 22, 2011
@Onlytruth: In a sense, human beings are just another resource, heh.

Anyway, my point is that you need something significant already nearby to attract people and make your town vibrant. There are many possible choices for that attracting factor (natural resource/port/existing economic center nearby, etc), but you need something.

A new planned town in the middle of nowhere in Ebonyi will be harder to to make successful than say the same planned town as a suburb of Onitsha. This is why I was asking if you were envisioning the suburb route.
Politics › Re: Tinubu Gave S’west Votes To Jonathan - Yinka Odumakin by ektbear: 6:26am On Apr 22, 2011
Buhari is a m.oron. It isn't anybody's obligation to do your work for you. Cut a deal and negotiate like everyone else. And if someone rejects your deal, then up your offer.

Why do people want good things for free in life?  undecided And get angry when you don't give it to them? grin

Anyway, in four years time, CPC can be our junior partner in this deal. No more 2nd place in this endeavor.
Politics › Re: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by ektbear: 6:17am On Apr 22, 2011
THE AMAKA:
^ ^ ^ good road networks so someone can easily get from point A to point B even if they don't live near their work. and that will also lead to the need of a legit transportation sector.
So yeah, that is a related (but sort of separate) issue that constrains where you can locate your new town. Crappy roads means less choice in where you can locate your proposed towns. . . since a town that is difficult to reach won't attract many people (and spending money on improving the roads in and out raises the cost of your project dramatically, reducing its attractiveness)
Politics › Re: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by ektbear: 6:00am On Apr 22, 2011
Question: What sustains the economy of these towns? To build a viable town from scratch is usually quite difficult, unless there is some economic asset nearby (mine, oil well, port, etc) to stimulate growth.

I suppose you are envisioning these towns more as suburbs (at first) of other major cities in the SE zone? If so, that constrains the locations of these towns, since they'll then need to be close to where jobs are.

But at least you have a larger guarantee about the viability of your town.
Politics › Re: Why Does The Nigerian President Dress Like A Clown? by ektbear: 5:45am On Apr 22, 2011
Hehe.

I've always felt that sw dress style is the best in naija (and west africa.) But then again, I'm heavily biased  tongue

Even if it came from the Hausa, we look way better in it than they do wink
Politics › Re: Why Can't Igbos Withdraw From The Enemy Territory? by ektbear: 5:36am On Apr 22, 2011
^-- I'm not sure it is swag so much as lack of ability to do anything. Like, we don't control the FG. We don't control the army, air force, navy. We don't even have a state police force in Yorubaland that could be the core of an army.

So I'm not really sure how we can help. Neutrality is sort of by necessity. I think this is what Igbos don't understand about Yoruba.

I dunno why Hausa seem to immediately target Igbos when there is unrest (I'm not saying that we don't suffer casualties too, but you by far seem to bear the brunt of it.)

Give me state police, and then we can talk cool

@jmaine:
Fair enough. You are right. I'm not trying to appear as a Northern apologist. . . from my posting history, you'd probably know I don't particularly like them. I can see why you blame Buhari alone. But personally, I think that both those who incited and those who rigged have blood on their hands.

Regarding Ohakim. . . heh. OK, let's wait til Tuesday, see what happens. Makes more sense to discuss that bridge once we've crossed it.

jmaine:

I won't protest violently, talkless of attacking innocent citizens and killing them . .that was way too barbaric and this recipe was laid down down during the CPC campaign trail and utterances that felt victory was assured anything short of that was impossible .
There will be violence in the SW Tuesday if GEJ rigs like he did in the SS and SE. I'm not making threats or anything, but just making a prediction. I have no clue how you guys in the SE will handle things when Ohakim is rigged in btw, but I know how angry we will be in the SW.

Now your own question . .Did the CPC rig the election . .Did the CPC intimidate the electoral officers so that they can rig . .and why were those who tried to resist to some extent killed
I strongly suspect that there was rigging in the North too. Maybe you misunderstand me. . . I am condemning both. Not excusing Tom for committing the same crime I jailed Jack for.

I want both sides investigated, and the truth to come out. For example. . . I'd like to actually know who won this past election. Right now, it isn't clear. I'm guessing GEJ, but cannot be sure.
Politics › Re: Who Voted For This Man? by ektbear: 2:31am On Apr 22, 2011
I want you two above to be honest.

If you were your typical Northern aboki right now, who believes that his candidate (Buhari) won and was cheated out if a victory, how would you respond? (Like, at this point, I don't think any honest and unbiased person will not claim that the powers that be did not rig massively in the SS and SE.)

How would you feel? And if you act on your feelings violently, yes, you'd be in the wrong. But aren't those who rigged what should have been a free-and-fair election also in the wrong?

GEJ probably could have beaten Buhari in my opinion with no rigging. WTF did he do it? It makes no sense to me. I don't get it. Why? Why spoil what should have been a nice, clean win?

Let us put it this way. If GEJ rigs in the SW this upcoming gubernatorial election like he did in the SS and SE, there will be chaos in the SW too. If Fashola (for example) runs against him in four years and is rigged out in the same manner, there will be chaos.

Those who rigged equally have blood on their hands.
